This set just kind of sucks overall. Compare the Primalstrike vest, 27 agi, 39 stam, 100 ap, to the Tunic of Assassination, 28 agi, 21 stam, 54 ap, 2 red sockets and a blue socket. It hardly seems worth all the Primal Might and Nether to make it. Especially considering it has no sockets when the Dragonscale and Tribal sets do, along with every other specialized crafted epic set - such as the 3 Tailoring sets and the Armorsmithing chestpiece (which may only be one piece but can be upgraded like the various Weaponsmithing epics).

4/5 Assassination and this 3 piece set.

Combat Spec FTW. Just need boots. Sad times.

The 3 piece bonus is horrible for Rogues however.

This set looks made to be a hybrid between rogue and druid. There's a huge AP bonus to it, decent armor, agility and stamina, as well as the setbonus giving druids that extra push they need to even it a bit.
Dps-wise this set is quite possibly the best a druid can get for direct damage, assuming you have all three, and get the setbonus. The set is pretty good for combat rogues and feral druids, as have been mentioned before.

Is it just me, or did Feral Druid's get shafted here? Really now, since druids get 1str=2ap, it really would be nice to see a separate set for Feral Druids that stacked Strength instead.

I also looked at this right after looking at the Feral Druid PvP set, with +healing (cause you know Feral druids use that ALL the time). What a dissappointment.

This is an amazing set for both rogues and ferals. I am going to get this set with 4 pieces of dungeon 3 set (wastewalker), that would be a huge buff for my drood + procc chance to increase AP by 160! I think ill keep it together with tier 4 set as well.

Just to make some actual comparisons for this as a rogue set:

Dunewind Sash - 2 sockets, 21 agil, 50 AP, 16 stam - blue heroic drop.
Although you wouldn't socket it with 16 AP, 2 of those would end up giving you 21 agil, 82 AP and 16 stam. You're basically losing 16 stam by going with this intead. Considering that it's blue and it's basically free, I don't see how primalstrike belt compares to that.

Shard-bound Bracers - 1 socket, 20 agil, 42 AP - Ogri'la Rep Reward.
Primalstrike has 22 more AP but 5 less agil if you leave out the gem. Put a talasite in there for 12 AP and 6 stam and you end up trading 10 AP for 5 agil. Basically, this easily aquired rep-reward is equivilant and you make money grinding the rep to get it.

Chestguard of the Conniver - 39 agil, 90 AP, 22 hit - Nightbane drop.
Giving up 18 AP for 10 hit hating if you take this. I'd say they're almost the same in DPS.

The only redeeming factor is the 40 extra AP from the set bonus. I guess it's also nice that it doesn't really interfere with other sets other than the chest.

For a rogue, this set is basically equivilent to what you would get from Karazhan and heroics. Considering the cost of the set and getting to 375 leatherworking, I'm not really sure it's worth it. Compared to the other sets like tailoring or dragonscale LW, it's really lacking. Tailoring and dragonscale sets are above T4 even without the set bonus.

It took me 6 whole days to lvl my Lw from 350 to 375. I had to do a lot of instances and stuff to get reputation with factions that grant me patterns, so I could lvl easier. When I finally got there, I already had most of the mats to make the entire set instantly. Once I put that set on, I had over 1600 Ap, which made me able to begin doing Heroics. I agree with those of you who say that this is the best Rogue Stuff pre-Eye/SSC.You MAY have been able to get some Gladiator stuff instead of leveling lw, but you will need lw at 375 for alot of other stuff too....so in the end, I think its worth it. After all, Im still going after full Gladiator...

Some rogues at the beginning-raid level have been know to pair this set with (parts of) the Fel Skin set. No pieces overlap, and the Hit Rating on those items complements Primal Intent pretty well - not to mention all the red/yellow gem slots that can also be slotted for more Hit/Crit/AP to suit your needs at the time.

The Fel Skin set really lacks Stamina, though, so some may say that you'd be better off using Wastewalker Armor. However, the fact that Fel Skin is craftable (and the mats are reasonable) means that Fel Skin is easy to obtain without having to grind Heroics and hope for an equipment drop.

This is truly a great rogue set for rogues starting to raid. Depending on how good your guild/server is you will keep this for a long time, maybe not all 3 pieces but you´ll definately keep some. This set can carry you through the first couple raids Kara, Gruuls, maybe Mags if your other pieces can make up or haven´t had better ones to drop at this point. For fresh 70s these mats will hurt yer pockets

Some fantastic craftable gear. Just not sure wtf blizzard is thinking with +20 Strength as the set bonus. Perhaps they had feral druid (elemental?) leather workers in mind?

On par, or perhaps slightly above T4 Rogue gear, also 2 of the 3 pieces arent consumed by the tiers, and If one has all 5 pieces, the T4 (or T5) chest piece could be swapped without losing either set bonus.

Thank you blizzard for implementing a purpose to crafting!

but for me as i am only feral till i reach lvl 70 this is not of any intrest

Okay, is it just me or did the elemental LW's get screwed? Why no sockets? All the other ones get em, mail/leather, why not elemental? AP doesnt help hit or crit %, and +20 to str definitly doesnt help hit/crit like a +20 to agi instead. I sure hope they change this. I feel like i have been screwed by being a LW. Plus trying to get to 375 aint no picnic either. Lv 70+ elite mobs still handing you knothide scraps. GG.

Personally, I'm set up as an Assassin Spec roge and seeing the lack of sockets/crit rating increase, this set is definately designed for a combat spec rogue or feral druid.

Seems a shame since I'm still wearing gear I got @ L62 that increased crit rating and haven't found anything to replace it with.

These patterns all require Elemental Leatherworking 375 and are trained from the pre-BC Elemental Leatherworker trainers (Searing Gorge for Alliance)

The craftable gear isn't supposed to totally replace things we can get from PvP accomplishments as well as PvE endevours. It is, however, not supposed to entirely inferior.

As for it not having sockets, well, it would have been nice, but the set is very well laid out. Outside of the +20 str bonus, which would have made sense if the set had any inkling of str in it, which it doesn't - It would be more apt if it had a crit bonus or some sort of nifty chance on attack proc like some of the craftable caster gear.

I was tribal leatherworking up until a few days ago when I switched over to get this set. I went tribal to get the dps set like this (devilsaur), which they seemed to have changed their vision of the specialization entirely, but that's okay, they are totally entitled to do so.

Coming from a 70 Rogue/Druid, this set is amazingly good. Its a tad low on stamina, which make other pieces better, but its certainly easy mats for what you get - which is higher dps epic leather armor that is totally not bad.

As a feral druid, there are some better options, but for the short term, I'd totally make these for the set bonus with the combined bonus of dps. I wish there were more stamina, but hey, I'll make up for it in other pieces.

240 AP~
57 Agility
6 to all stats enchant on the chest yields - 20.4 AP
12 Strength on the bracers yields - 28.8 AP
20+ str set bonus yeilds - 48 AP

Total === 394.2 AP

Which translates into roughly 28 DPS increase. That's huge.

As for agility, it grants 3.15% to crit (with enchant stats) and 4.3% chance to dodge.

I hope to see better crafted gear in the future, but for now, this will do.

I just read this in the upcoming patch notes:

"Leatherworking made primalstrike set now has an attack power set bonus rather than a strength set bonus."

While I'm very happy they made this adjustment, the bonus had better be 40 or higher. I will laugh my ass off if the attack power set bonus is anything less than that. :)

I just got word that the new set bonus for Primal Intent is +40 attack power. Clearly, this is better than +20 strength. However after thinking this set over for awhile, there is one stat that is completely neglected from this set:

Chance to hit increase

This is an end-game, raiding/instance set. For rogues, good DPS in raiding requires the following:

+attack power
+crit
+hit

The Primal Intent set give you loads of attack power plus agility (+ attack power and crit) and stamina. However, balancing is required for chance to hit as well. Further, the Primalstorm Breastplate (the little brother to the Primalstrike Vest) gives you increased chance to hit but the Primalstrike Vest does not? Seems kinda strange to take away balancing of stats required for good instance running. Lastly, you cannot even enchant increased chance to hit on the bracers or the vest which makes it even more necessary to remove a little attack power from the set pieces and replace it with + to hit.

I suggest taking away a little attack power and replacing it with increased chance to hit. This stat is crucial to rogue contribution in a good raid group. It should either be standard on all the pieces of the set with +40 attack power as the lone set bonus or keep the set as-is and add +40 chance to hit as the lone set bonus.

New update:

Just saw some new screenshots of the patch 2.1 updated Primal Intent gear. Blizz upped the agi/stam and attack power for each piece as well as added +hit to the chest but still...NO SOCKETS!

We MUST have socket flexibility to be able to tweak our overall stats based on each individual player's gear differences. Once again, tailor-made cloth items have socket flexibility. Why can't we?

Primalstrike Total Stats for Level 70 Rogue:
369 total MAP
889 total armor
2.52% total crit

Pretty good stuff for a combat rogue, especially for the mats. Nethers aren't that hard to come by if you're in a group with friends, and Mights are easy to farm the materials for, just flirt with your neighborhood transmuter(s) and you're set.

Please note that that is only from THREE pieces of armor, you still have 9 other slots to put additional MAP, crit, hit, etc into. :)

all the other LW sets have them, it just seems unfair to give all the others sockets and none to this one.

i am still contemplating making this set for my 70 rogue. i love the fact that this set has an insane amount of atk pwr which translates into a crap load of DPS. i agree with the other posts above that some +%hit or +%crit would be very nice to have. the thing that really pisses me off about this set is NO SCOKETS...i mean come on wtf the other 2 lw epic 70 sets get sockets but we dont wats up with that. since this set doesnt really have any +%hit or +%crit it really neeeds sockets to add crit and hit.

im not a 70 rogue yet so im just gonna keep my eyes open and maybe by the time im 70 with 375 lw they will have added sockets to this set and stop hating on the elemental leatherworkers.

in my opinion if they add sockets to this in one of the future patches i would say that this is a great set....if u think about it if u had sockets to add the crit and hit that the set lacks this is a great set for only being 3 pieces.

About the hit rating, As a 70 rogue I think this set would be great for a combat daggers rogue, because along with your massive backstab crit chance with imp backstab and all the little things in combat tree, you get all the DPS you need from this set and I'm currenly farming for the fel skin set, each piece has 2 or 3 red and yellow sockets and a fair amount of hit rating.

That's my 2 cents

Question: What's with rogue gear rarely including decent +hit and +crit? I don't recall that being such a problem pre-expansion. I really hate having two different sets of gear, makes me feel like a hybrid.

With sockets, this set would be better than t4. Thats why there are no sockets, you could slap 16 AP in and it would be close to T5. In other words, this is the best crafted set before teh swiftstrike in BT. stop the complaining because your noobism is showing.

as a rogue you have to know how to stack AP gear and hit rate in raid situations, and this gear gives you the AP you need. the fact that it doesn't have sockets doesn't make it trash. this isnt sub or assassin rogue gear. Combat is the raider spec, hence it's geared for raid rogues. this also shows that you can make your self epic raid gear, so cheers to all you master Leatherworkers.

I took the time to max out my LW and I crafted this set along with the Boots of Utter Darkness. Creating my own epics that gets me instantly geared for raids is a really rewarding feeling. The other day I bought Pattern: Swiftstrike Shoulders, now I just have to farm dailies for 2 weeks and buy the rest of the mats for them. You have to know how to stack your hit and AP. Get the Midnight Leggings and then you're set for hit rating.

I am not sure if my calculations are correct, but tell me if this adds up. Given a Shadowstep/Relentless Strikes 19/0/42 build this will yield a total of 417 AP.

369 (256 AP + 73agi + 40 AP set bonus)
406 (369 AP X .10 = 37 AP Deadliness bonus)
417 (406 AP + (73 x .15 = 11 Sinister Calling bonus))

I may be not the best at math but I think I am questioning this more so b/c I dont know exactly how the bonuses stack, I figure I may be off by a couple AP due to the added AP bonus gained from the added agi from sinister call, but not sure if it stacks. All in all 417 AP by 3 pieces is relatively good!
