This quest is part of a chain that ends with your killing VanCleef.

As for the quest itself; it's very easy. Simple stay in close proximity with the Defias Trator and help him fight whatever mobs may attack you or him.

The Defias Traitor will walk from Sentinel Hill to Moonbrook at the entrance to The Deadmines.

There's really only one tricky bit with this quest, and it's at the fountain in Moonbrook. Assuming no one else has cleared the area for you you'll see a mob at the cart and a mage at the fountain. Because the traitor won't stop unless he's engaged in combat, the first mob aggros and runs after him but doesn't stop him until he's in aggro range of the fountain mage. As soon as the mage hits the traitor, he runs to the fountain and aggros another mage on the other side. Be ready with poly, sap, a pet, or a friend to stem the tide.

Note that this portion of the quest isn't given by Stoutmantle, but rather by The Defias Traitor at the bottom of the tower steps. It took me forever to figure that out.

did this quest as a lvl 16 discpline preist it was a cake walk dont need 2 people jsut pul lthem and he is engaged kill them before he can get in aggro range

All here does is show you were the Deadmines Entrance is and all you have to do is fend off the enemy's you encounter when running with the traitor.

Please dont rate because i'm trying to post for every quest in the game so i won't have trouble later leveling my alt's

2 people for this quest is unnecessary because the defias traitor fights as well so although its minimal he does help you. Also if you did what I did,go when the most people of wow are on, then you should barely be attacked for the fact that most people will be killing them for exp and boe.

This quest will lead you to Van Cleef inside the deadmines.

You can solo this quest if you are carefull, but it is a good idea to team up with someone for the quest. He will lead you to the entrance to the deadmines, and you will have to fight off anywhere from 6-8 on the way. I was able to solo this as a Paladin, and only had to heal once. If you have some potions, or have heal spells just solo the quest.

This quest is a must, so do not pas it up.

You really need a group to this although quite often many people come to Moonbrook not to do this quest but to just kill the mobs that are here so it can be soloable, you just have to hope other people are killing at the same time you want to do this quest.

If you get him most of the way to the hideout and die, don't release. He will keep fighting and if he survives, he'll finish the quest and you can just release and go hand it in.

you get this quest after you finish with the messenger. you talk to the traitor at the bottom of the ramp at sentenial hill. if hes not there than someones escorting the traitor already..just wait for him to come back.

After completing the killing quests from Stoutmantle, he sends you to a guy named Wiley the Black in Redridge. He then sends you back to Stoutmantle, who sends you to SI:7, then back to Stoutmantle. This might be the part of the chain missing.

i play in dragonmaw and this works for me, i just escort the guy then he tells me to go to stoutmantle then i got the quest for VC dunno whats the problem for you guys =/

im up to the first quest out of the 2 and im not sure what to do? does it go right through the instance or does it just go up to the enterance of the istance? and do you reackon a level 17 warrior can do it?

ok the forum is to help find and complete quests, not to lie about how you solo van cleef with a 16 hunter. This is a dungeon with elites and bosses which, like any other dungeon, requires a party. van cleef is a 21 elite boss and guards spawn continually until you kill him. good luck killing alone until about lvl 35

This part of the chain IS solo'able. ALl you do it walk him through moonbrook. keep him alive and its easy.

The second part is not, not until late 30s-40s, 50s if you're a priest.

You can find the messenger of the defias on the road betwen jasperot mine and moonbroke (to the left) He usualy patrol there (and yes this is the chain quest missing)!

One reason this quest canb be quite easy to complete alone is that the Hideout is often cleared by players to grind cash and/or bandanas. This leaves precious little to harrass the traitor as you escort him. This means that, if you are lucky, you will meet almost no opposition and have basically a free ride.

Unfortunatley, many of us are not so lucky...

First of all, there wasn't a yellow exclamation pt over the traitor's head so it took a while to realize that I needed to speak to him. After he said "go grab some friends and come back," I tried to click him and he wouldn't interact. He would become targeted but the dialogue window didn't pop up so that I could initiate the quest. Is this quest broken? Has anyone else experienced this? I left it alone for a while and now the quest is gray after I've gained a few lvls. I'm now 27 (warr). I don't want to abandon this quest because I want to eventually get the boss of DM. Any suggestions?

I agree with the person above me. I also experience this same problem. I got the quest to escort him, but I could not talk to him or anything, and the quest didn't start up. This quest must be broken somehow.

I was only lvl 18 when I got this quest. Mind you I was a HEALER and was able to HEAL him and myself. (So this Strat won't work for non-healing classes) So long as you stand back and let him get aggro, it's easy. The only thing you have to watch out for is to keep him and yourself healed.

Still, easy as lvl 18. I imagine a priest or any other healing class wouldn't have any problem with this strat. either.

There are NO elites what-so-ever on the escortquest... However as you enter the mine itself you will run into elites..

VC is not soloable till lvl 30. You may get to him, but you will definitely not defeat him at level 20, whatever u are.

This quest may not be instantly available to you due to the fact that it is given by The Defias Traitor. If someone started the quest before you, you'll have to wait until they're done with it and the traitor is returned to the tower before you can get it.

What should I do if traitor doesnt have any mark over his head. I talked to him first time and he said that i should go back when i get a party. I have a party but i can start the quest because i cant talk with him again....can anybody help?

i dont know what your problems are with soloing, ive dont it plenty of times all you gotta do is stock up on full rejuve pots and take your summon nec in and make sure you got plenty of tp's so you can go get more summons when you dont have any bodys to revive. SHESH! heh... what will the noob gripe about next!

Im confused does the tratior take you through the whole mine to VanCleff or does he take to to entrance and leave you there and go back? I stoped at this part of the quest and im not sure whats gonna happen. Can someone help me?

This was easy until a Horde PvP attacked the traitor... and he was like 10 levels above me, so I ended up as one dead warrior! Well back to Sentinell Hill and wait for the traitor to respawn!

I easily soloed this quest at lvl 17(a rogue) i just stealthed behind him. But it was easier for me because all the pillagers and looters were already killed by other people...

This is a very easy quest....period....just have a few bandages and heal him up after each attack and you will be fine.He only takes you to the entrance and then dissapears, then you must return to Sentinal Hill.

The tunic of westfall is DEFINANTLY a lvl-19 leather wearer TWINK item. as far as i can tell it is the best chest piece for my hunter >_<

Watch out for the Defias Messenger. I have ran into him twice as he spawned while trying to do this quest and both times he attacks me and my pet, but the traitor doesn't assist us. He just keeps walking until he runs into other defias.

Seems the quest line still has a bug in it. I got the message from the messengers body and took it to Stoutmantle. And it didn't go on. i hope the next restart fixes it.

Ok, people. If you can't start the traitor part after the messenger part, it may be because someone else is already escorting the traitor. you'll have to wait until they're done.

I tried this at lvl 19, and I kept on getting fireballed to death. It's probably the problem with my really low skill, but any advice? And several times I tried, my computer lagged too much and he got to ahead of me and the quest failed.

Anyways this guy takes off at a run, so be ready. He doesn't slow down until he reaches moonbrook. One way to control hi progress is to attack mobs ahead of you (at least defias, I never tried it with non defias mobs) and he will assist. When finished he usually backtracks to his origional spot pre combat and continues walking. As long as you initiat combat, and hold aggro there will definately no problem.

Everytime I tried to take this guy to the hideout, I was ambushed by a Horde ? player who was cloaked. Even when I grouped up, sometimes with 60lvl, he popped out and wiped us out. After 10 tries, I called it a night...maybe try again in a few days!

this quest starts by Stoutmantle, at the foot of the ramp that leads to him. Once you have finished the quest series up to this point you will see the "Defias Traitor" with a yellow ! above his head.

Take the quest and he quickly runs to Moonbrook, no lollygagging around. I had no aggro before we reached Moonbrook, then he helped to aggro and then kill 3 defias mobs before the message came that the quest was complete.

And you can be aggrod by Horde if they are there and you are on a PvP server - I was killed in Moonbrook even tho not flagged, but not during this quest.

This quest has been bugged from Wednesday 15th June 2005 until I imagine Wednesday 22nd June 2005 when they patch again.

It is a recognized Bug and a solution is being sought out

All the messages about this quest are old. I don't even know how someone could get ganked by the horde unless their PvP flag was set (which has nothing to do with the quest since it is in Westfall).

If you are looking at this for help to do the quest, it is pretty easy when there are lots of people killing everything that moves in Moonbrook. Usually people will kill the spawn that attacks the guy just for their own exp. Just pick a busy time.

This can be very difficult to solo, particularly if you are on a dead/quiet server and nobody is clearing the mobs in Moonbrook. However, if you have a higher level toon, there is time to kill everything, log out, and relog and accept the quest and do the escort. Just make sure you don't loot the corpses. I used a 43 hunter to shoot everything, then logged onto my rogue who was sitting in Sentinel Hill, ran up and accepted the quest and had a free ride through Moonbrook. I could even still see some of the mobs dead on the ground.

Once taken the escort lasts 4 min 30 sec (give or take some seconds to fighting time) until the traitor respawns again in Sentinel Hill.

I was looking for this information during HC classic era, since a lot of people are trying to pick up the quest at once. :)

this quest is buggy as hell in SoD. I escorted him twice with the quest, (not in raid, once in 5man group, once as solo), I literally stood on him the whole way, and no credit completion
