With the final phase of Burning Crusade Classic finally in our hands, we can look back at class performance in the penultimate raid tier of the expansion, Black Temple and Hyjal. While still very strong, Arcane Mages have moved down from their untouchable position in Tier 5. Warriors and Rogues have jumped up to top contenders for boss damage dealt. Hunters and Warlocks remain very strong boss damage classes, with Hunters just barely surpassing Warriors to take the top spot at the 95th percentile. For this analysis we have used data from
Warcraft Logs Statistics
pages for Black Temple and Hyjal, accessed on 5/10/2022 for both Phase 3.5 and Phase 4.

Disclaimers and Sources
The data for DPS ranking is taken from the
Warcraft Logs Black Temple & Hyjal Statistics Page
for the 95th percentile. There are a few things to take into consideration before we delve into the data:
We are interested in the maximum potential of each class, so we are looking at the 95th percentile of representatives of each class, or the top 5%. 19 out of 20 players will not perform at this level.
We are looking at only boss damage. Classes with strong multi-target damage abilities will move up in the rankings if you were to consider overall boss and trash damage throughout a raid.
Most of the absolute top parses involve multiple
Sede de Sangue
,
Avivar
, and/or
Infusão de Poder
in the same fight to certain players. It is very difficult to compete with those parses if you are not in a similar situation. A weaker player with that treatment would very likely outperform a stronger player without that treatment.
Black Temple and Hyjal DPS Rankings
Black Temple and Hyjal Phase 3.5 and 4 Boss Damage
While Fury Warriors were doing quite well in tier 5, it wasn't until tier 6 raids that the power of Combat Rogues has really shown itself. Both of these classes started out rather weak in Burning Crusade Classic and have scaled up with improved gear at a faster rate than other classes, allowing them into the top rankings. The favorites of the whole expansion are still holding strong with very respectable outputs from Arcane Mages, Destruction Warlocks, and both Survival and Beast Mastery Hunters.
Unsurprisingly, the legendary weapons
Glaive de Guerra de Azzinoth
are immensely powerful and give a substantial advantage in terms of damage output to any Rogue or Warrior who is lucky enough to obtain them. The top 10 rankings for boss damage in Black Temple for Rogues are all by double-Glaive rogues. 8 of 10 for Warriors rankings are double-Glaive players with one single Glaive and amazingly, one Warrior without any Glaives in the top 10.
Across all the classes, the top 100 boss damage rankings in Black Temple contain 60 Hunters, 24 Warlocks, 8 Warriors, 5 Mages, and 3 Rogues. The top 100 rankings are examples of players who built their raid around boss parsing, and in most cases around buffing particular players. They certainly aren't representative of the performance of average raiders in average raids - just some very cool examples of what can happen when you push this game to it's absolute limit!
Top 10 boss damage players for Black Temple in Phase 3.5 and 4
The tier 6 raids Black Temple and Hyjal contain a total of 14 different bosses with a wide variety of abilities. There are some fights that very strongly favor certain classes over others in terms of raw damage output. Azgalor is one of the most egregious examples of a boss that hugely favors physical damage dealers, whereas the dangerous movement and volcanoes on Supremus make ranged casters quite good on that boss. Such drastic disparities in performance of classes for different bosses encourages a more balanced raid composition, a far cry from Classic raids composed of over half Warriors - the undisputed kings of that expansion.

Speed Clears of Black Temple
<Noobs Alliance> from 哈霍兰 (CN) server alongside their horde counterpart <Noobs Horde> from 震地者 (CN) have absolutely dominated the speed run rankings for Black Temple. Congratulations to <Noobs Alliance> for their first and second place finishes in Black Temple speed runs!
<Noobs> hold both the first and second place rankings between their alliance and horde guilds, with impressive full clears in only 51 minutes 14 seconds and 52 minutes 40 seconds. Third place comes close, but fourth is a minute behind third and fifth is another minute behind fourth and in the world of speed runs, that is quite a large gap.
In both the alliance and horde raids, Noobs chooses to use a very balanced raid composition for these runs. Their damage dealing core is made up of 3 Warlocks, 3 Mages, 3 Hunters, and 3 Warriors. The buff and support players include Enhancement Shaman, Retribution Paladin, Balance Druid, and Shadow Priest. Two tanks with a Feral Druid and one Protection Paladin, and a healing team of 3 Restoration Shaman, 1 Discipline Priest, and 1 Holy Paladin. It is refreshing to see such a balanced raid composition performing well at a very high level of competition!
Looking Forward to Sunwell Plateau
Sunwell is a new raid and a new experience for many players. The difficulty is tuned up significantly compared to previous raid tiers in Burning Crusade Classic. This presents a real challenge that players will have to tackle and improvise their strategies and possibly their rosters in order to defeat these bosses.
An important difference with Sunwell compared to previous tiers is the distribution of total boss health and total health of trash enemies. Previous tiers have seen a lot of emphasis on trash damage for speed clears since there has been so much of it, but Sunwell is the first raid with
more
boss health than trash health. This means that while having strong trash damage is still important, it is less important than it has been in previous raids. Certainly for raid groups struggling to progress through the raid, boss damage is much more important than trash damage when considering which players to bring.
Serpentshrine Cavern & Tempest Keep: 45% Boss, 55% Trash
Black Temple: 49% Boss, 51% Trash
Sunwell Plateau: 60% Boss, 40% Trash
Much like Black Temple brought with it the insanely powerful
Glaive de Guerra de Azzinoth
for Warriors and Rogues, Sunwell brings the legendary bow
Thori'dal, a Fúria das Estrelas
for Hunters. You can expect any Hunter lucky enough to get their hands on this bow will have a huge boost in their damage output. I'd guess that once hunters get their hands on this, they'll easily take the top spot in damage dealt.
Right now the damage rankings for Sunwell look very similar to how they do for Black Temple with Rogues, Hunters, Warriors, and Warlocks all contending for top damage dealer, and Mages falling just a little behind the leading pack. Time will tell how the immensely powerful Sunwell Plateau equipment shakes up these rankings - we'll see which class will benefit the most. We can make guesses now but the proof will come in time and I am excited to see how things end up in the final raid tier of Burning Crusade Classic!
