Vazruden is located in the Hellfire Ramparts. He sits on his mount Nazan, and dismounts as soon as you start the encounter by killing the two Orcs in front of him.

Both Vazruden and Nazan drop blue items. If you kill Vazruden, but fail to defeat Nazan, the encounter resets. You can then loot the old corpse of Vazruden and kill both of them again for additional loot - this is probably a bug.

The "Exploit" with resetting the encounter to get additional loot is no longer possible. It has been fixed, and neither Vazruden nor Nazan drop anything now; their usual loot is found within a "Reinforced Fel Iron Chest", which spawns after both of them have been defeated.

His mount causes fire damage while you fight Vazruden and once you have Vaz dead you need to tank the mount facing away from group as it'll require a decent amount of fire resistance on tank.

kill his 2 guards then Vazruden lands. doesnt hit hard but he need to be killed quickly b/c his mount (Nazan) is on a timer and lands.

Nazan is the tough part. he is resistant to fire dmg, and expect about 60% or ur fire dmg to be resisted.

He has a Cone of fire that he emits so he needs to be faced away from the group and tanked.

He also shoots out fireballs which stay and burn the ground. Think bat boss in ZG. just move not difficult

Nazan has a tendency to go after the healer when he lands. be sure to be on time with ur taunt and dont let the healer get one shotted

This fight is considerably easier if you attack Nazan first and tank Vazruden while keeping him up. It makes the second phase when Nazan lands much shorter and easier to deal with.

Yesterday we downed him just like khallah wroted.
Druid start to tanking the boss, all other attacked his mount, doted him and range damaged him. When the boss died, his mount landed and the fight has lasted just a few seconds more.
A lot more easies than, first killing the boss, and then attack his mount.

Three phase fight.

Phase 1: Two trash mobs. Nothing special

Phase 2: Vazruden
Vazruden will come after you. Simple tank and spank. His mount (Nazan) will randomly shoot fireballs. These may leave fire behind. Do not stand in the fire! At about 40% have your off tank get ready for phase 3.

Phase 3: Nazan lands
Abilities: AE breath attack. Turn him away from the group so nobody but the tank gets AEd
Fireballs: he will still randomly fireball people which leaves behind the fire on the ground. The tank should just strafe a bit to the left or right to keep him pointing away from everyone.

Nazan will land in the middle of the platform and make a bee-line for your healer. Have your off tank pick him up fast and turn him away from the group to avoid his. DPS should finish off Vazruden and then kill Nazan

On heroic difficulty:
- bring fire rez gear, with pally aura and 150+ FR you will resist much of his fireballs. He does not hit hard, fire dmg is the main problem.
- fire rezistance pot, magic rezistance potion - pretty useful
- kill Vazruden fast, he is harder than the drake (drake does not do so much fire dmg, has only frontal fire cone, no fire bolts)
- warrior must dance a lot to avoid the fire plumes on the ground (or to have 300+ fr gear)
- others, when hit by fire bolt, must do a few steps to avoid fire on the ground, when Vazruden is down and drake is tanked, everybody must be behind drake (to avoid frontal cone)
- fear ward on all raid, then renewed on tank (if possible).

All in all, ramparts on heroic is quite easy compared to other instances.

Note: 2nd boss has 100% droprate of primal nether, 3rd boss does not drop badge of justice nor primal nether (only chest drops).

This probably also goes for 'Normal' but here it is for 'Heroic'.

With a group with a lot of ranged dps (casters/hunters) you can handle the boss like this:

- Kill the 2 mobs, leave one sheep while you mana regen and shit.
- When mobs are down the dragon lands and drops the orc, tank the orc (tank needs to keep moving from fires! same a other raid members btw)
- Focus DPS on dragon, he does the annoying firebombs (2-4k damage without resist) and the fear but this should be np. Stop dps @ 35%. (the dragon will land if it hits 25%)
- Focus DPS on Orc. When the orc hits 45% the dragon will land.. which means you have to nuke the orc from 45% => 0% asap.
- When the dragon lands tank needs to pick it up.. party cant be caught in firecone (atleast not without FR gear).
- When the orc is down dps the dragon again, which shouldnt be a problem.

Ofcourse you can play around with this:
- Nuke orc => Nuke dragon
- Nuke dragon => Nuke orc
- Orc to 50% => Dragon to 35% => nuke orc => Nuke dragon
- Orc to 50% => nuke dragon => nuke orc
- Dragon to 35% => Orc to 50% => nuke dragon => nuke orc
- Dragon to 35% => Nuke orc => nuke dragon
Enough options to play with, just see what your setup can handle the best.

Just keep in mind:
= Dragon lands when the dragon hits 25%
= Dragon lands when the orc hits 45%

Other info:
- If you resist a firebomb thingy from the dragon, it will also not spawn the flames on the ground, so even a little FR can help there!
- Yes the boss can despawn (we had it after 7 tries) but you can kill one of the 2 every try, and killing one of them gets you rep (i think 250 rep of both + 30 rep from mobs) so even a trail run wont be a total waste.

A point for those who have not done this encounter before:
When the dragon lands, he has no built up aggro.

That means its going to go right for the healer, be prepared to peel.

The healers de-taunt isnt going to save them if no one has any aggro on it all.

A cloth wearing priest will go down in 2-3 shots.

Cause we just did heroic Ramparts.

And Vazruden mounted off and the dragon just flew around shooting fireballs.
We killed vazruden and then the dragon landed, we killed the dragon and the chest appered.
No loot on either vazruden nor dragon.

But in the chest. No Badge or Primal.

Just dropped these two tonight in Heroic, kind of a rough fight, but oddly not much worse than Omor.

Group Comp:
1x Prot Pally (tank)
1x Holy Pally (healer)
2x Rogues
1x Mage

This fight is pretty much the same as it was in Normal mode. Kill the two guards at the end of the hall and Vazruden will dismount to attack. Tank him down to 45% or whatever it was like normal, move if you get hit by one of Nazan's fireball things. Then DPS goes crazy on the orc as the dragon begins to land, it's best to kill him while the dragon is landing to avoid having to tank both of them at the same time. The tank goes over to pick up the dragon and tanks it normally as well, the tank will need to face the dragon away from the group as usual so the group can avoid the breath attack. The fire breath is about 4k and he does it right after landing too, so heals during the transfer of Vazruden to Nazan have to be ramped up, The dragon's melee attacks aren't that bad, about 1700ish or so and pretty easy to heal though, but make sure that the tank has enough health to survive a breath attack at any time. Never really had any problems with the fear either, he did it twice, but stayed on the tank each time. Guess it's just more of a keep the tank topped off as much as possible idea there.

Some problems that we had run into on our first few attempts involved me (the healer) getting hit by a 4k flamebreath out of nowhere before Nazan had landed, like right at the start of the fight (after the guards, and right at the start of the fight with Vazruden) We tried the mage nuking the dragon during the fight with the orc and this resulted in me getting breathed upon. So deciding that Blizzard may have "fixed" the "bug" with Nazan being targetable before he lands we decided to do the fight normally and he did the 4k breath attack from the sky on me. We decided to fight the orc up on the bridge then, we had less room to move around after the fireballs, but there were no problems with random breath attacks up there and it gave us more time to make the transition to the dragon when it landed as well.

Really the fight wasn't all that much more difficult or different than it was @ 60. Just wish Blizz hadn't misplaced that Badge that they should drop....

When you first pull this guy he dismounts and starts attacking while his mount starts shooting at you from midair, in my group we killed the orc and started hitting his mount when he landed near us he took us out in no time although our group was good but we wern't ready for the orc at the first place which meant we'll do real bad with no mana and low hp, i was the only guy with more than 75% hp because of using Feint a lot ( Low threat).
The mount killed all my group and i was left so he repeatedly attacked me for about 400 damage and finished me off with a fire attack that didn't crit but damaged me 1540.
So we disband and i go back into the instance to loot him and i only find a dumb letter :S ...... how unlucky can a person be?

Did this boss on heroic without any FR gear/pots on my feral druid. I believe that they nerfed him but even then, I have decent gear and he still hurts a lot.

Our party consisted of a prot warrior (main tank), warlock, mage, holy priest, and feral druid (me). I served as dps when the pulls were easy and change gear and off tanked when necessary. I off-tanked Vazruden and our prot warrior kept an eye out for the dragon. I believe it's at 40% is when Nazan lands. I wasn't paying attention to Nazan. By the time Vazruden had died, our warlock went down from standing in the flames. I battle rez'd him, innervated the healer, and 2 seconds after, our warrior went down. I shifted into bear and tanked him.

His flame breath and the flames on the ground are what hurt the most. The rest of his attacks are pretty minor comparatively. I found that to avoid damage, when you see him about to blow his breath of fire (after observing, you'll notice that he'll do a motion with his head), start backing up so that you can see where the flames on the ground are popping up. Also if you can, get out of range of the breath. I managed to do so several times and then after he's done with his flaming breath, strafed around him to a clear area and feral charge in. This method worked well for me.

There isn't special placement for the party. So long as they're paying attention to where they're standing and staying out of the flames, it shouldn't be an issue. Warriors should have healthstones and or pots as Nazan has an AOE fear. Use pots when he does that to help your healer out. As a feral druid, I popped frenzy rejuv when he feared my party and I was just very aware of where I was standing. Even 3 seconds in the flames can hurt.

That's about it. It's very possible to do this without any resist or fire protection pots. Just takes a little situational awareness in the group to make sure you're not being burned by the flames.

This guy is currently buged in Heroic (don´t know if that goes for normal mode too) If you wipe and try to go back and kill him he will not respawn when you kill the two orcs at the end of the bridge. Instead a new orc will respawn, very annoying though you can always farm reputation :P
What you have to do is take down both orcs at the same time. If you do this he will land as he is supposed to.
We had this issue twice so I asume it will hapen to other people aswell.

This fight has ben nerfed.

Rather then the dragon landing when the orc is down to ~30%. The dragon now lands when the orc is actually dead, giving you few seconds to position yourself better and prepare for the landing.

This change has been confirmed for heroic mode.

Just solo'ed this boss as a 69 feral druid. 12k HP, 20k Armor, 23% Dodge, 25% crit.

First, clear the three mobs at the beginning of the instance. At that point, you can stealth all the way to Vazruden. Once you get to him, kill the two guards that patrol on the bridge, and be sure to not aggro any extra adds.

Heal up, mana up, then pull the two sentries as far down the bridge as possible without aggroing the groups behind you. Once they die, Vazruden should dismount, but not aggro you. Nazan however, will.

Once Nazan aggros you, run beneath him in cat form and just spam mangle/rip until he lands. If you need to heal during this period, time it when you're at about 40% life, and as he's casting a fireball.

At 25%, Nazan will drop out of the air, and run straight for you. Either I got lucky, and he didn't pull Vazruden with him, or he won't chain Vazruden to you. At this point, just tank and spank in bear form, making sure to stay out of the fire.

Once he goes down, take a mana/health break, then proceed to slap Vazruden around the room.

Tada, you now have a shiny chest full of juicy blues that vendor for quite a pretty penny.

Unlike what is displayed of the Boss Abilities section, Nazan's landing isn't bassed on Vazruden's HP. Nazan will land 15 seconds after Vazruden's engaged, whatever his HP is, so nucking him down quickly is advisable so as not to have to face both at a time.

The orc really isint a problem with this fight. Its mostly the dragon. Tanking for this requires you to stay near the healer. The way my groups tend to go with is ill run to the orc, use avenging shield to get his argo then just use my weaker spells on him and save mana. Then watch the high middle part of the screen and wait for his dragon to "decend from the sky" At this point the orc is at 30% Now tanks ignore the orc (Lets dps take him at this point he is a option) and run for the dragon. Keep his argo on you and make him face away from the group. His aoe fire spell burns though cloth real fast. Also one point is watch for the fire balls they some times stay after he dies. After whiping twice on him we finaly took down both the orc and dragon only for me (A paladin and the only ressurecter alive) got finished off by a fire ball. Lucky me i was SS'ed. After the fight i ressurected the group, looted the chest, got a new toy (Hellreaver) and made a good couple gold from loot i picked up off the mobs. Wonderfull instince if your new in outland and looking to get some gear or weapons.

Vazruden is worth 250 Thrallmar / Honor Hold reputation on heroic difficulty.

Repeatedly killing him then resetting the encounter is probably the fastest way to farm reputation. It shouldn't be hard to reset the encounter by jumping down and going out the door.

First you kill the 2 sentries. As they die, Nazan the dragon will drop off Vazruden his rider. You fight him while Nazan flies around and throws an occasional fireball. After 45 seconds, Nazan drops to the ground NO MATTER if you have killed Vazrudan yet or not. You may end up with both bosses on you.

Note: The fireball hits you for about 1000, then creats a fire pit on the ground where you stand. If you do not move out, you will suffer 300 damage per second.

Note: The trick to this fight is that, once Nazan has dropped his master, YOU CAN HURT HIM as he flies around. This is the ideal opportunity to slap dots on him. Hopefully, before he lands, he'll have lost 1/4 to 1/3 of his total health.

Note to Warlocks: I could land Corruption and CoAgony, but Nazan resited Siphon Life about 10 times in a row.

A chest will appear containing the drops.

well I just made a few attempts with a pickup group on him. The thing is, Vazruden is easy as pie, but it's Nazan that makes it awfully hard.
He hits very hard, plus he spits some damn hot fire that'll burn ya up. He sure is hard, gj Blizzard

We had CC'd the two first guys as everyone else has clearly stated to drop them. However just before we dropped the second guy we had all of our casters and ranged run past and onto the circle platform on the right side.

The dragon's rider drops fairly quickly so don't let your tank get so concerned with tanking him. I tanked him as a rogue without evasion fairly easy as he's down to 1/3'rd his health by the time the dragon drops; if not already dead.

Melee took the left side and kept the dragon facing away from the party. The tank was basically dancing left to right (tapping the arrow keys) keeping the dragon shifting his PoV just enough to keep the firepits to a minimum.

Hope this helps somebody; I know it took us a try or two

Easy, pop a fire pot when the dragon drops, have a pally/offtank pick up the guy, and make sure the main tank is healed after the fire breathe, the fire pot should keep him alive.

Pallies FR aura helps too if you have one

Tanked him with my pally + Aura too easy, AoE threat held them both just make sure your ranged are sitting on the exit side of the circle platform and tank danced with the dragon once he comes down, you can also BoP the main healer when the guy drops down off his dragon, with a pally too you can wait for rightouse defence to cc and Divine Shield / Taunt works a treat but gems low threat as you have FR aura up, might pay to have a shammy's FR totems too

Note a concern for fire mages:

Fire really pisses that dragon off...

I went through:

70 pally, 65 rouge, 62 priest, 60 mage (me):

No problem in phase 1. Those guys dropped faster than flys in the wind.

Phase 2: Big bad dragon rider falls from the sky and targets... me. Tank grabs him after I am down to 2500 health and we get him down before the dragon lands.

Phase 3: Dragon lands...

Tank and rouge go in, tank grabs while priest pours health into the tank (without affecting agro). He's down a legitimate amount of health (about 1/8 down) and time for me to start my onslaught.

I do one scorch... ONE scorch... didn't even crit... and this dragon turns and runs across the circle to me... and one-hits me dead. Never felt so violated...

Followed shortly by the healer going, then the rouge, then... the tank.

Party wipe...

Second try:

Rouge and I took the rider while the priest and pally (pally occassionally healing himself) got the dragon. Once the rider was down, rouge and I turned to the dragon and I crit three in a row (combustion rocks) to destroy him. He was a little resistant and absorbed some fire, but not too much.

In Heroic Mode, the trash pulls before this boss must be killed within a few seconds of eachother, or they will keep respawning. Tank both of them and spread dps, and it works like a charm.

for tanks refelct shield builds a ton of threat and does some nice damage to him. Keep it on if you dont have fire gear. Ive used reflect on him now a few times and it bites his arse good.

Im (lvl 70 frost mage) doing heroic ramparts, got down to vazruden, and we start dpsing him down. to my suprise after two frostbolts (vazruden 90%) i receive one melee hit from nazan for 3,1k, then a fireball for 2,5k and again a melee hit for 3k. All of this while nazan was in flying phase... i got like wtf? and my party soon wiped.

Suppose its a bug, as a feature it's not really fair that ou melee cant get nazan and his melees can get us

my group was doing this today, rly easy until we got to the dragon dude, vazruden was easy to kill but we wiped on the dragon. then for some reason the guards spawned and got a 10second spawn rate on them, and we're all like wtf, the the dragon spawns w/ boss and we thinkin blizzard wth u doin. so yh idk what 10second spawn rate is all about but it wiped us like 5 times before we gave up fighting clones :(

Tanked as a 70 Mage (non-Heroic). Frost Barrier and Frost Armor made it easier, also our group was higher than what the instance should be.

this guy is very challenging if you approach him in a typical encounter strategy. We found that if you have some sort of off tank you put him on the initial spawn, and the main tank goes and pulls some threat from the flying dragon. Slow and steady This is not timed it is based on the guys life. Let the main tank pull some hate from the flying dragon (he kept coming down and one shotting our priest before) and just burn down the dragon.

Ive found quite possibly the simplest way to beat this guy, however you need at least 2 pet classes OR a protection warrior.

First, Prot warrior or a minimum of 2 pets using an aggro increasing ability on the rider. Nothing else. Make sure anyone who is healing is also using a fade like ability. Secondly, your main tank, will not necessarily be the guy with the highest HP/Armor. It will be the person with the highest Fire Resistance. With 60 FR you can resist almost every single one of the dragons attack. Let the "tank" build up as much aggro as possible. More than likely, this will be either a mage or a hunter, however I would suggest a hunter over a mage any day, simply due to Feign Death and Distracting Shot. If your "tank" is a hunter, have them cast Distracting Shot, Aimed Shot, Distracting Shot, Aimed Shot, Distracting Shot. That will generate enough aggro for everyone else to move in. Have the Tank stay far away from the rest of the group, constantly moving, and spamming Distracting Shot/Arcane Shot now. (If its a mage, they should just be doing what mages do best.) Burn the dragon to about 25%, and refocus all attacks on the rider (Vazruden) until he is dead.. If you have enough DPS, you can burn Vazruden down fast enough that the dragon will not have landed by the time you kill him (Dragon begins to come down at 20% of Vazruden's HP, still targetting the "tank") Once that is done, have your original tank drop as much aggro as possible and have your warrior/pets move in, and burn down the dragon. Boom, loot, nap.

He'll be hitting the tank for ~2k on Heroic, decently fast attack speed as well. The Dragon is still worse. If your tank is trying to balance Fire Resist for the Dragon with Defense for this guy, be careful about those crits. The Dragon can shoot fireballs on the bridge, so pulling him back there doesn't help other than make the Dragon run farther to get to your group once it lands.

You can also get the Thrallmar/Honor Hold reputation by killing just him, whether you wipe on the dragon or not, so you can deliberately wipe on the dragon to keep resetting it and killing just Vazruden for 250 rep a pop on Heroic, plus whatever those two guards before him give.

Had a strange bug last night where the dragon wouldn't land until ranged got it down to about 1/4 health. Which was fine; what wasn't was that the letter starting the Blood Furnace quest didn't drop from the chest. I looted the chest multiple times to be sure it wasn't just others trying to loot at the same time. Probably won't happen to you, have never seen it before, and no idea if the buggy boss was related to the buggy missing note.
