Diablo has re-emerged as the sinister gothic capstone of BlizzConline 2021! Darkness is rising at Blizzard and it culminates in a trio of Diablo games giving us an updated modern look at the past, present, and future of this iconic franchise. Blizzard announced Diablo II: Resurrected, a full HD remaster of the original game for PC & consoles coming in 2021. And while Diablo IV and Diablo Immortal were announced at prior Blizzcons, we received tons of new information about each game including the announcement of the fourth class for Diablo IV, the Rogue, and a review and look ahead for Diablo Immortal after their recent Technical Alpha test. Learn more about what was revealed in the panels and interviews over this jam-packed weekend.
Diablo II: Resurrected
Release Date
Diablo II: Resurrected is expected to release sometime before the end of 2021, but as of right now there's no exact release date. It's currently available for
pre-order
for $39.99.
There will be a Technical Alpha happening soon, and players can opt-in to participate on the
Diablo II: Resurrected
site.
Supported Platforms & Cross-Progression
Diablo II: Resurrected is an entirely separate game from the original Diablo II. The original Diablo II is being entirely preserved and will remain playable.
Diablo II: Resurrected works off the current 1.14 live version and includes Diablo II and the Lord of Destruction expansion pack. It will release on PC, Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X/S, and Playstation 4/5.
Controller support will be available for both console and PC players at launch.
Cross-progression will be a feature available on launch that allows players to access their characters and progress no matter what platform they're currently playing. This will require a linked Battle.net account and separate Diablo II: Resurrected purchase for each platform you'd like to play on.
Cross-play or the ability for players of one platform to engage with players on a different one will
NOT
be available at launch. Blizzard will continue to look at this possibility for the future. Players of all platforms will compete against each other in Global leaderboards which won't be separated by platform.
A Single Global Region & Multiplayer
There will no longer be separate online regions in Diablo II: Resurrected only a single Global Region that all players will compete on.
8-player multiplayer will be supported for players of the same platform.
Couch co-op will not be supported for console players. Each player will need a separate console to play with each other.
Classic Gameplay with Remastered Graphics & Sound
Fully remastered graphics and visuals in Ultra High Definition 4k (2160p).
New 3D 60fps art engine runs on top of the original 2D 25fps original game allowing Diablo II: Resurrected to stay true original game logic and calculations with better visual effects.
Completely remastered all graphics in the game including: heroes, environments, monsters, spells, and items. Unique items with special icon art now show on your character.
Legacy Toggle Feature allows players to swap between the new and old visuals.
All 28 minutes of cinematics have been completely remastered shot-for-shot with high fidelity art.
Audio also completely remastered to include surround sounds, ambient sound, and effect sound for a richer experience.
New Features
The original personal stash has been expanded and a shared stash tab has been implemented to allow characters on the same Battle.net account to quickly transfer items. No more muling!
Redesigned UI elements including Advanced stat information, item linking, tooltip comparisons, and automatic partying.
Opt in to auto gold pick up.
Characters will no longer expire.
Diablo IV
Rogue Class Announced
Rogues are the quintessential dexterity class that dispatches their enemies with finesse and speed.
Rogues utilize a dynamic and adaptive playstyle where they're not solely a ranged or melee hero. Get up close and personal in melee with your enemies with a flurry of sword/dagger attacks then quickly disengage to safety and follow up with a volley of arrows from your bow/crossbow.
Inspired by the Rogues of Diablo I and II, but updated with tons of character customization. Become the criminal outlaw or the noble thief.
Exceptionally mobile class! Several gap closers and disengages. Dismount into rain of arrows half a screen away then disengage leaving caltrops in your wake. Fluid motion of combat like no other class.
Rogue Specializations
Similarly to the Barbarian's Arsenal system or the Sorceress's Enchantment system, the Rogue has the Specialization system. After completing Rogue-specific quests for the various Rogue factions around Sanctuary, you'll be allowed to specialize in one of three combat types.
Shadow Realm
takes a problem and makes it smaller by pulling a select few enemies into a shadowy realm and buffs you to more easily take on the current challenging monsters.
Exploit Weakness
retaliate during enemy attacks to deal significantly more damage than ordinary attacks. Perfect for players who are quick on the draw. High skill cap that requires quick assessment and finesse.
Combo Points
allow the rogue to build combo points with basic attacks and then consume then with other skills to provide additional powerful effects. Creates a nice rhythm to combat.
Add a new layer to combat with a Specialization that you can mix and match with your pre-existing skill selection.
The Rogue's Weapon Imbues
Augment Rogue weapons with the Imbue System:
Ice, Shadow, and Poison imbues
! Modify any attack with a particular imbue to completely transform the skill and conquer the battlefield. Gain additional effects complete with a new visual without completely changing your playstyle.
Poison
melts monsters into an gory mess of acid and flesh!
Ice
adds crowd control by chilling enemies and building up to a full freeze synergizing with Sorceress chills.
Shadow
envelops enemies in an other-worldly power.
Open World Features: Camps
Camps are strongholds of evil in the overworld. filled by a lot of evil creatures: bandits, demons, undead.
Clearing out camps cleanses the area of that infestation of evil and has a real impact on the open world causing those areas to become resettled by vendors and NPCs opening up new quests and dungeons.
PvP Update
The hatred of Mephisto has been bubbling up from Hell and has created areas in the open world called Fields of Hatred that consumes players and causes them to turn against other players leading to zones of Open-world PvP combat.
These Fields of Hatred are optional locations that players can choose to go to collect Shards of Hatred by killing monsters, defeating players, opening chests, completing events, etc. They're then able to purify these Shards of Hatreds for various rewards.
Build alliances or betray your allies, but beware! You'll slowly become infused by the curse of Mephisto becoming a Vessel of Hatred similar to becoming a bounty in WoW's warmode. Nearby players will be able to see you on the map and get a bonus for killing you. If you survive for a certain time limit, you'll receive a large bonus instead.
Release Date
There is no current release date for Diablo IV. Blizzard plans to continue to engage with the community and update them on Diablo IV's progress via their regular quarterly updates.
Diablo Immortal
Technical Alpha Review
A lot of feedback that Diablo Immortal truly felt like a standalone authentic Diablo game. It's not just Diablo 3 on mobile.
Early and mid-game tests on Technical Alpha were a success, but players have yet to see the full extent of the Diablo Immortal end-game content.
Controller support is one of the most requested features, but nothing to announce at this time.
What's Next?
Diablo Immortal will have a new testing phase soon that will include new content including a new class to test. The test should be available to a wider audience and for a longer period of time. Previous Technical Alpha took place primarily in Australia and lasted 2 weeks. Expect to test more end-game systems.
An epic end-game has been planned for Diablo Immortal. The Technical Alpha was mostly focused on the early and mid-game. The level cap of Technical Alpha was set at 45. At release, we're planning the level cap to be 60.
Diablo Immortal will not be supported with seasonal resets. Instead Blizzard will be focusing on sizable content updates where you'll continue to progress your existing characters: New storylines, zones, dungeons, items, paragon trees, classes, and systems.
Release Date
There is no current release date for Diablo Immortal. More testing phases will be available very soon including for end-game content and the final two classes, the Necromancer and Crusader.
