Great instance for the mid-20's but you should be moving onto bigger things by level 30 such as Gnomeregan or Razorfen Kraul.
This dungeon is comprable to the Stockades in Stormwind City (http://atlasmod.com/Maps/TheStockade.jpg ), but the drops are more geared towards casters and other intellect users, though there are some items for all classes in both instances.
This is a great instance for Druids and Priests.

The drops here are actually static -- bosses repeatedly and dependably (well, most of the time, anyway... sigh) drop the same items, so that immediately makes this instance an improvement over the Stockades.

Another point I'd like to make (which I accidentally posted on an item's page, oops) is that it's quite useful to have a Warlock in the party for their underwater breathing buff, Unending Breath (https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/spell=5697). You may not think so, but there are a lot of underwater encounters here and it's very helpful to not have to worry about running out of breath.

Does anyone run this instance anymore? I've started a healer and am trying to bone up on healing in the lower-level instances. I was able to find groups for The Stockade and Deadmines no problem, but during 2 full days of playing I was constantly pinging for a group to run BFD and got 0 responses.

I've noticed that some instances you're better off going to the zone in question and pinging as opposed to trying in a city - is this one of those instances? Any advice here on finding a group (other than the obvious guild / friends / etc)?

I searched for over an hour for this dungeon, now i know its location is simple;It is located on the border of Darkshore and The Zoram Strand. Near the hills in the north of ZS, behind the meeting stone. Oh and if you can do it in a group.

I advice bringing someone who can dispel poison as the murlocs near Gelihast have a very potent poison which does 50 dmg every 5secs, and this can kill someone very quickly.

This instance was successfully duoed a couple of days after Patch 2.3 by a level 27 Fury Warrior (using a shield) and a level 27 Frost Mage. All in all it is pretty easy apart from Aku'mai which requires some kiting by the mage because the boss does a lot of damage resulting the warrior's death at about 40-50%. Being level 28 would make it quite a bit easier because the warrior has shield wall by then.

Hey, this may sound trivial, but at level 57 my character still received 2,000 Argent Dawn rep for the two quests in this zone. I'd recommend hitting these lowbie spots first before grinding further on Argent Dawn.

The most fun low-level instance until you get into ZF or Mara in my opinion. Great atmosphere, fun to play, I suggest each toon run this at least once just for the fun factor.

This dungeon has probably the most varied boss progression before Zul'farrak... put it alongside Stockades' blandness and Gnomeregan's annoying alarm bots and diseases, and BFD's colourful mixture of Naga, Humans and beasts shines. The loot is good, especially for leather wearers, and the difficulty curve is excellent too, the early bosses are straight tank-and-spank, but it becomes more interesting later on. There's even a smidge of real challenge. Overall I'd rate this is the most fun dungeon between Deadmines and Scarlet Monastery.

It definitely does help to have a Warlock along for the water breathing buff, or bring a bunch of water breathing potions. There are some quest objectives under water, and various parts where you need to swim through underwater passages to progress. Druid healers are good here, as there are quite a few mobs which can be Hibernated.

Note that there is also one "jumping" section where you have to jump from pillar to pillar in order to progress, which can be a little aggravating - remember to be patient and wait for the jumping-impaired ;D

Here's a map location for those without coords

This place is not so easy to find, the entrance is hidden under a pool. You'll see the meeting stone near a raised square temple which has a central pool down below inside, jump into that then swim beneath and to the north, and after a couple of seconds you'll come up in a tunnel system filled with wandering elites. Follow the tunnels and eventually you'll find the instance entry.

For hunters who are interested in getting Naga Heartpiercer or Naga Battle Gloves (both of which drop from Lady Saveress, second boss of BFD), you can easily solo the instance until there at level 26 or above.

When you die, you will not be able to go in and get your body. (cause you can't go below water as ghost)... has anyone found another way in as ghost?

You can, in fact, go underwater as a ghost. You just have to hold down the left mouse button, and the right mouse button down simultaneously (like instead of pressing W or the Up arrow key to run). After that, drag the mouse down, so that you're looking at your character's feet. Bada-Bing, Bada-Boom, you're swimming as a ghost.

Located north west of ashenvale, there is a horde camp a bit south of it. Let me remind you this is a HORDE CAMP, sorry alliance.

Great place for drops to keep on coming in for. Not the best for twinking since items are 19-25

At the start, you have to have some 1337 skills at jumping, Nah, you just cant suck. Jump over blocks of missing ground, easy for hunters with AotH.

Most of the quests level 19s can pick up, so this dungeon is one of the main instances twinks need, quest rewards are amazing. Just get a 70 to handle what you pulled, run in pass everything use speed increasers if you can, when you die let the 70 kill what you pulled, do NOT release spirit, or you will not have the option of getting the drops. Have the 70 ( Paladin, Preist, Shaman, Druid ) ress you, or maybe a Warlock soulstone. Then get the quest objective item, And BINGO you got yourself a completely awsome twink. Although other instances are bigger objectives because there is not many 19- quests here.

after 'Echoes of Doom 3.0.2 patch' every quest in this instance is easily soloable for rogue class (lvl 28 in my case)

i higly recommend spending talent points in imp ambush for lvling and such...
weapon swap macro is a must

with WC gears (able to stealth run through when above lvl 24) and herbalism rank2 HoT, you will be able to kill every boss

before confronting the orc warlock boss make sure to kill the patrolling adds, if each mob seams to close to each other, sap and kill them

couple of healing potion might be a nice backup but not really necessary

farm 3 items (bracer, gloves, bow) for next easier stealth run instance

There is another quest "Baron Aquanis" (https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/quest=6922) that starts from Strange Water Globe (https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/item=16782) dropped by Baron Aquanis. Not sure whether it's Horde, Alliance or both, but it dropped for me as Horde.

This should be added to the quest list for the instance.

This instance is much easier than WC. I 3 manned this instance with a 27 priest for healing, 23 rogue for DPS and me, 24 warrior, to tank. Everybody was happy, as there always isn't much to quarrel about when everybody has different armor proficiencies.

This dungeon is a good place for twinks, all the items are around the same level and the bosses are simple fights.

Ghamoo-ra- built like a tank. Very low damage output but high health and exceptionally good armour. Despite this his most common drop, Ghamoo-ras bind, is a caster item.Avoid area of effects if you want speed, as the turtles around him are passive even if he is attacked.

Lady Saveress-always has a body guard, has a bow and chain lightning attack, so twinks dont go too near or you could get hurt. Easy kill, good for hunter that dual wield, gloves with good agility, strength and stamina, a bow with extra agility, and two swords with extra strength and a proc.

Gelihast- dual weilder quick striker and the mobs around him pull very easy, good DPS warrior drops, high strength gloves and a 2h axe. always get the blessing from his altar afterwards as a little bonus.

Kelris is basically an improved version of the walocks around him, good caster drops, clear the room beforehand.

Serrakis is simple, tho a shammy or warlock breathing spell is useful if you dont have extreme DPS . He is under the temple in a cave with no air pockets. N.B. always take a hunter with you:a pet makes a good emergency tank and tracking for finding bosses/pats/stealthing mobs/underwater creatures is infinitely useful here.

Akumai hits like a !@#$% and has high health, a pet is useful here as both healrs and the hunter can help them out, plus it means she wont hit the main tank for the majority of he fihgt. Varied drops, another altar at the back, and a dwarf who can telly you to Darnassus, useful after doing Blackfathom Villainy.

having never done anything else with the Argent Dawn on my 26 Warlock, I went in a group here and by the end of it I was Friendly with them, so this is probably a good idea for those looking for some fast, easy rep to start trying to get the Argent Champion title with a low character...

I can never find groups for lowbie dungeons on my server. Everyone resorts to 2g runs T_T
But, if you can find a group (or a high lvl) this dungeon has nice drops ^^

This place, it seems, has amazing BoE zone-drops for lvl 19 caster twinks, there amongst both the best chest piece and weapon. Oh, and the quest reward, which is insane.

Back in the days of classic WoW, touching the Altar of the Deep in Aku'mai's Lair triggered a trap, teleporting the character high in the air outside Blackfathom Deep (if I remember correctly) and making them fall all the way to the ground.
Now it works just like the other Altar in the chamber with the murloc boss (aka gives a buff).

HOW TO GET IN THE BFD:

1. Check the screenshot showing the ruin that's the entrance to the dungeon
2. When you get to the building jump into the water and swim to the cave ( you'll recognise it by the Naga-s ( its the only cave so you can't miss it))
3. Make your way trough the cave
4. The portal to the dungeon is at the end of the cave and it's easy to spot.

Hope this helps.

As for the dungeon it's not very hard with nice drops. Mobs are easy to kill and even 2-3 ppl can do it with no problem with 1 being a healer.

I made it past collecting the 10 gemstones for one of the Argent Dawn (Darnassus) quests, which took over a solid 1.5 hours with a lvl 21, 34, and 41 playing pretty solid. Even the 41 had never seen a quest this long in duration.

Blackfathom Deeps is huge. It goes on forever with various types of beasts, demons and humanoids, most often in groups between 4 to 8 in close quarters. Once you hit the Sanctum, that number grows to about 10-12 in one room. The lowest I remember seeing was a lvl 22 elite. The majority are 24/25 elite, with some higher than that. I don't think I saw higher than 27 elite. Oh, and some of 'em have pets, to boot.

It would be wise to bring a warlock with you -- there are a few places that you have to simultaneously swim and fight your way through. Unending breath doesn't hurt. A rezzer (or two) is a good idea too. (Expect to die....lots).

If you encounter a little friendly fellow (somewhat beyond the big green doors at the far end of the Sanctuary) who says "escort me to Darnassus" - be careful what you wish for. I thought it was an addition to the quest, that I had to escort him safely out and back to Darnassus with me. Nope, I got escorted out -- teleported right back to the Temple in Darnassus. Not a happy camper was I, as I hadn't found Thaelrid yet. (another Quest given by the Argent Dawn).

Now that I've checked the map, I see I was way past Thaelrid. Time to go back and try again? Not for a while ;)

Does anyone know what the altar of Black Fathom does? it gives you a buff called blessing of black fathom but it doesnt show what it does....does it have something to do with the altar of lore near Aku'Mai?

We cleaned this place out the other night, not that hard and not near as big as Wailing Caverns. It was my 32 hunter, a 28 shaman, 27 priest, and a 27 warrior. Not one wipe until the very end.

A few things to remember though. When you get to the end of the instance, with the acolytes and the warlock looking dudes, dont surface in the water. The guys on the bridge will aggro you if you do, then come running after you once you're out of the water, along with about 20-30 friends. If you take your time you can move through any part of this dungeon with ease. Have a smart puller and you will not get more than 2-3 mobs at a time.

After you've fought your way to the alter at the ending, killed all the acolytes and warlocks, along with the named boss, there are 4 torches around the alter. There's a hidden part of the dungeon reached by lighting all 4 torches. We wiped here, the shaman with us just said we gotta light the torches, then we all ran up and lite one. Not cool. You need to light one at a time. Each one is going to release a wave of mobs on you. After you kill them all, rest up and move on.

Supposedly a door opens up and there's more of the instance after you succeed.

was helpin a buddy lvl 21 pally with the pally hammer quest and decided to check out this instance since i have never gone there.

VERY COOl place! i thought it was a blast i went through and cleaned house, we got to the end after killing that lord guy and at the door and i was looking for a trigger to open when my buddy lit all the candles at once, i saw all these mobs come outta no where and own him good. i backed up to wall so not to aggro and figured it was then necessary to kill the mobs to open door.

reading now that each candle spawns 1 wave of some mobs, will make next time a lot easier. i actually won though against 2 waves

wave 1 AT ONCE was 2 lvl 27 elite and 6 25 elites
wave 2 AT ONCE was 2 lvl 26 elite and TEN 25s

that was a blast and i was pretty excited i won, used LoH on the first wave, and basically just lasted long enough through the elites on the 2nd wave to get a heal off and finish off the lvl 25s

the end guy looks like the plane of time boss in EQ.. (quarm), there are 3-4 lvl 27 elite turtles when u open the door, then go down a path and i believe there were 4 more lvl 27 elite turtles. very easy to single pull each, then take on the last guy, named aku'mai, lvl 28 elite, dropped the leech pants, nice caster pants, the lord guy had dropped a nice blue caster item, rod of the sleepwalker

either way i recommend this instance for it's variety and the fun of it

I got killed a couple of days ago, and since they priest in the group said it could not ressurect me for 30mins, they told me to haul from the graveyard. Unfortunately, I could not get underwater to get to instance entrance with wisp form so I had to abandon group...

Is this normal?

This is one of the easiest instances in the game.
Did it again today with: 27 mage, 27 priest, 26 warrior and we didn't die because there is no need to. Just get the pulls right and use your crowd control. Of course it requires that the group works like a team and everyone is not running around confused. Final boss isn't hard either you just gotta be prepared for it doing a lot of damage. 2 healers or that fear tactic mentioned earlier works great. One healer isn't all that hard either although we had to slap a bandage on the tank during aku's last 10%.

Im not gonna call anyone names or do the OMGWTFBBQ, which is the common tone in here and frankly makes you look like a stupid little kid. BUT please read a little bit about instance tactics on the web, it isn't really that hard just gather a few friends you like to play with and agree on trying to follow the basic instance tactics.

It is located about as far NW in Ashenvale as you can go. If you go along the beach right before the small island on the left their are some ruins on the right. Go over to the ruins and drop down in the water. Swim down to the left and work your way back through the cave and you will come to the instance. I was looking for the Corrupted Kor Gem for a Paladin quest. I got it without going into the instance. First or Second Naga I killed dropped it.

When i'm walked to BFD, i see nobody around.
Think there are some reasons:
- Most people do around SW and IF (most at east side)
- It's far placed instance in calm place
- Most people has leveled already far enough, so BFD is not really needed. Most are going to Gnomeregan, the second instance.

I hear it's a fun place, but not so popular.

BlackFathom Deeps is in Ashenvale, along Zoram Beach.
Zoram beach is in the western-most part of the map, it's the beach with the horde camp on the south, naga infested ruins in the middle, and the entrance to BFD in the north.

At the candle room, remember to notify all the people that have never ran Blackfathom Deeps before to NOT LIGHT ALL THE CANDLES AT ONCE.

When I attempted to solo BFD (first time), I got to that room and without knowing what would happen, lit all the candles. I was around level 35+ hunter. Once I got killed, I got my brother, who is a level 25+ druid to heal me, and we did it. AoE ftw.

i have been here farming a tree bark jacket for the past 3 days and so far i have got staff of the blessed seer,redbeards creast,magicians mantle and staff of the friar.i must of killed over 500+ in tyhis darn place and no tree bark jacket.any1 else having probs with this jacket?it just wont drop for me lol also picked up a starlight tunic but it sucks so might as well be a green

The Hydra is 24 Elite at least while I was in. Soloed for fun with my lvl 48 Rouge ;).

The Mobs at the Altar after lighting the Candels.... 1st Candle - 10 Murkshallow Softshell (No Elite), 2nd Candle - 3 Aku'mai Snapjaw (No Elite), 3rd Candle - 4 Crustacean (No Elite) & 4th Candle 2 Aku'mai Servant... also no Elite... T'was fun ^^ but clear the final room of those Turtles before you start Attacking Aku'Mai ..... hope this helps :)

As a lvl 24 mage, why couldn't I join my guild mates? Group size was ten including me. Every time I tried to go into the instance, it'd spit me back out saying "You do not meet the requirements for this dungeon." I've never done BFD before. Whats gives?
