This is the capital city for the Undead race, and is located in south-central Tirisfal Glades.
The city is located completely under the ruins of Lordaeron, which was a Human capital during Warcraft III lore. A neat feature about the ruins is that, if you stand in the abandoned throne room and listen, you can hear whispers of the past (basically, sound clips from the Warcraft III storyline).
The city can be a bit confusing to navigate at first. To enter it, you need to go behind the abandoned throne room to access the elevators that take you beneath the city. Once you exit it and follow the corridor, you will be at the central part of the city, where you will find the bank. The ramps in the middle take you down into the depths of the city, where you can access the outer rings, the three Quarters, and the Apothecarium, where the new leader of the city resides.

While a cool looking city I'm not to keen on the design. BTW be sure to turn up the volume in the throne room and have see invis cast.

Are the elevators a little buggy for anyone else?
If I try to move out the door too quickly, I immediately disconnect.

Lore comments: There could scarcely be a more ironic fate than that of the Kingdom of Lordaeron, today only known in parts held by one faction or another. One of these factions, the Forsaken, has its chief fortress in what is known as the Undercity. Once the royal crypts of Lordaeron's glorious Capital City, it is a grotesque pit of aborrations of every kind where horrifying mutant Abominations live among the walking corpses of the Undead. And despite this, it is the closest thing to home the Forsaken have.
The downfall of Lordaeron had its turning point played out in the palace still accessible in the middle of the old city's ruins. Here, Prince Arthas cut down King Terenas Menethil, his own father, in an ultimate act of betrayal. Arthas went on to ravage his father's kingdom at the head of the undead Scourge. His war raged on into the elven lands of Quel'Thalas, where he rent the soul of the ranger Sylvanas Windrunner from her and made her a banshee. The Plague of Undeath claimed more and more victims, and soon, all of Lordaeron was covered in the dark plague.
Events took another turn in the ruins of the Capital City. "King" Arthas found his powers weakened, and his Dreadlord lieutenants turned on him, forcing him to flee the capital. As a result of his weakness, the banshee Sylvanas was freed from service to the Scourge, as were many other undead minions. As the Forsaken formed, Sylvanas began to plan the assassination of Arthas. When this failed, she moved to strike up an alliance with Grand Marshal Garithos to support her in a power struggle against the Dreadlords. Sylvanas promised the humans that their city would be theirs again with the defeat of the Dreadlords, and they reluctantly gave their support to the Forsaken. Garithos ended up betrayed and cannibalized, his promised city turned into the fortress of the undead.
The undead, needless to say, dominate the Undercity. But above their stronghold still stands the palace of the kings of Lordaeron, where still echo the memories of a time when the Forsaken stood tall as men, and their horrid home was an unimaginable vision of the most demented mind.

Y'know, I've been to each and every city I can find on both Azeroth and Draenor, and yet, there is only one place I call home: Undercity.
From the decrepit, collapsing architecture of the Ruins of Lordaeron to the bubbling, churning slime in the Canals, there is no place I'd rather set my Hearthstone.
They say that we Forsaken have forgotten how to care and love for objects, people, and places. Not this one. This Mage loves his city.

In the courtyard above ground, there are invisible
Lordaeron Citizens
. You need a high level of invisibility detection in order to see them. You can kill them, but they're very weak.

This is the only city in the game were warlocks are free to study without having to hide, the forsaken are the only playable race in the game to fully accept warlocks into their culture.

I'll admit, this city IS a little confusing for your first few times in it.
This is my favorite city ever becuase it's nice and compact. You don't need to walk for about 5 minutes just to get somewhere. Example: Try seeing how long it takes you to walk from the weapon master to the bank in Orgrimmar. Now try the same thing, but in Undercity. See how close everything is to each other? It's perfect.

Halenissen said: To be exact about the whispers:
If you stand in the hallway before the Throne Room, the room with the broken bell, and turn up your ambience volume this might happen:
You hear bells ringin' --> Now go slowly into the throne room and you'll hear the last conversation Arhtas had with his father, just before he killed him.
It's a very cool little thing that made me like that city so much more!
................................................
I found out that too, just today, but it sounds like Medivh instead of Arthas and Terenas, anyone confirm this?

There are 3 sections where you hear distinct sounds after you leave the forecourt on your way to the throne room:
Bells: in the antechamber with the fallen bell, you will hear the ghost bells of Lordaeron
The cheering crowds: you hear this in the next antechamber after the bell chamber, as you move towards the throne room

I am curious. Has anyone else noticed in the courtyard these 2-4 vortexes of blue energy moving about? It seems to be a totally random occurance but I seen it about five times. They are either to the left, near the orb of translocation, or )from last night) near the bridge at the front of the entrance. If anyone knows what they are or what they are about it would be great to know also.

Undercity is the home of the Forsaken and they love it, even if they dont show it. Their bright green slime filled canals can make a undead pair fall in love..or in slime. The queen has her own personal body guard, which you can kill and you wont have to feel sorry! Arthas stabbed his father in the head with Frostmourne, but hey you would too if you were a Death Knight working for the scourge bent on destruction of all living things.Dont forget, dont mess with the local teamsters or you'll end up like this
guy
But on a serious note. A sudden outbreak of Sudden-Rotting-Bone/Skin Syndrom has happened. But from the looks of it, they dont seem to mind.
Undercity is a family friendly enviroment. No cannibal-flesh-eating undead here. Make your reservations for the Undercity today. Call 1-800-NO-JAW or visit
www.wowhead.com/tbc
and search "Undercity". We hope you enjoy the BRAINS! ahem...sorry i mean the city.

I find it odd that King Terenas's memorial is in Undercity. Arthas and his Scourge army built Undercity for the Scourge, and the Forsaken moved in. Who built the memorial?
Could it be Sylvannas? Possible, but she didn't show any liking to the king before.
Could it be Arthas? Also possible, but the reasons are vague to say the least.
Could it be an undead craftsman, who built it to mourn the past?
I wish we could know that man.

This is slightly idiotic, but my first time to the Undercity, I couldn't find my way in! There is a sewer's entrance outside, but the way to get in through the gates is:
When you enter the UC main gates, you'll cross through a courtyard and straight across a bridge across the green sewer water below. Go either left or right, they lead to the same place, and follow the tunnels down through a throne room and hallways... can't really get lost because there is only one or two ways from here, and they lead to the same place. Eventually, you'll find an Elevator :) Don't try to enter through the sewer's in the courtyard below the bridge, you'll just follow them back up to the couryard. Also, don't go up the stairs to the right or left of the courtyard, one leads to nothing and the other leads to a Portal to Silvermoon City

I've always especially loved the tomb of the King..
"May the Father lie Blameless for the deeds of the Son.
May the bloodied crown stay lost and forgotten."
I've just always wondered who made it? After Arthas killed his father, I didn't think the humans ever had control over the city.. Could it have been the Forsaken?

Strangely enough, the Undercity is the only meat-less capital city of the Horde. No vendors in the entire city sell meat, either of the
Haunch of Meat
(or upgrades) or fish variety. Even Thunder Bluff sells meat, but not the apparently vegetarian Forsaken capital.

There is a turn in for each cloth types that any level can do, but if you want to do the repeatable runecloth turn in you have to be level 50+. Then you can start the runecloth turn in which starts with a turn in of 60 runecloth, then repeatable turn ins of 20 rune cloth after that.

Has anyone really listened to the ambience in the Ruins of Lordaeron? Outside you can hear faint cheers of the crowd as they welcomed Arthas back, and in the throne room you can hear snippets of conversation between King Terenes and Medivh. Scarier yet is sometimes hearing Arthas's voice in the throne room saying the line "succeeding you, father", the line he spoke before he stabbed Terenes.
Creepy.

Yeah, that's a neat little easter egg. In the throne room you hear the voices of Terenas and Arthas when Arthas killed him, even if it's very faint, and if you never played WCIII you probably don't know what they're saying.
Also outside, in the yards, there are ghosts of Lordaeron Citizens. You can only see them with invisibility detection.

Home to the arcane magicians of the Forsaken. Within the large temple-like building, you can find Mage and Warlock trainers, as well as a Portal instructor and a Demon trainer. Several quests are attained from here, as well, and a fishing trainer/supplier can be found on the dock overlooking the foul sea of slime.
On the opposite side are cloth armor merchants and tailors, as well as vendors for robes, staves, and wands.

Lordaeron, once a majestic city and bastion of the human civilization, now lies in ruins. The scourge, though defeated, managed to cause the city to crumble into a state of decay. Their former city too much of a grave sight to bear, the Forsaken Undead have created their own Undercity beneath the ruins. It takes a bit of a run to get through the ruins. To get to the Undercity, run through the gates of Lordaeron and down the wide path. Take either of the doors to the sides of the large door and then down a series of hallways, past a tomb and a throne. Eventually, you'll reach an elevator. Jump in one and ride it down into the Undercity.

The dark experiments taking place in the Apothecarium do so within unseen chambers seldom explored. Those outside only see Herbalist and Enchanting trainers along the inner wall, but those who wander into the depths of the Apothecarium will find Alchemists and members of the Royal Apothecary Society, who give out a large number of quests while also conducting horrific trials on captured specimens and creating Undercity Guardians.

The centerpiece of the Undercity, those arriving for the first time see the Trade Quarter first. At the very middle is the Undercity's bank, while surrounding it are an inn, reagent vendors, general and trade goods vendors, the bat handler, weapons and armor vendors, as well as a guild center and cooking center. There's even a guy selling cockroaches under some steps, proving that the Undercity was truly inspired by New Jersey.

The War Quarter serves as, oddly enough, a place for Priests to train along with Warriors. You can find trainers for both classes in the large dome building. Across the slime river (look for the large demonstration in front of the dome), you can find a gun merchants, blacksmith trainers, heavy armor merchants, axe/mace/blade merchants (who also sell crossbows), Archibold the Weapons Master, mining trainers and suppliers, and a bow merchant.

The Canals are four seperate stretches of the outer ring of the Undercity. They basically serve to connect each of the four quarters, and there is an entrance to the middle ring of the Undercity in the inner wall of each stretch of canal. From that middle ring, you can access the central area, the Trade Quarter.

The most subversive of classes, the Rogue is usually set aside a small cleft, nook, cellar, or secluded building due to his shadowy nature. However, the Undercity gives them an entire quarter.
The central building is where Rogue training and quests begin. Off to the right are several engineers and supplies for that trade, while across the canal lie vendors offering poisons, blades, thrown weapons, leather armor, and bags. You can also train skinning and leatherworking, as well as First aid, along the inner wall.

Accessed via a high bridge in the Apothecarium, the Royal Quarter is composed of a long winding tunnel leading to the Undercity's throne room. Within is Lady Sylvanas Windrunner, banshee queen, and her servant, Varimathras. You can get a variety of quests within here, making it a good place to check for quests every few levels.

The Sewers, in essence, is only there to allow bats to transport players from the airs of Tirisfal to the depths of the Undercity. It's explorable on foot, however, but there's not much to see. However, if you're going to Silverpine on foot and you're near the War Quarter or Apothecarium, perhaps it'd be a faster (or at least more direct) way to pop out near the Scarlet Crusader tower near the exit to Silverpine Forest.
You can't enter through the sewer's mouth, but there are a few narrow passageways that start halfway between the War Quarter and Apothecarium that lead to the sewers.
