Remember that you don't use shards in the Arena, so don't worry and let loose that spell whenever it's cooldown is up!

I don't see any reason not to use soul fire if the situation is right. I'd recommend having your succy charm first and then let it rip. Don't try to fear and cast only because your opponent will usually either run out of your line of sight or out of range. When you get a successful crit, it's nice to see your opponents health get cut in half pretty much immediatly.

Note: This spell is situational at best. It has always been my first reaction to throw up Corruption and Curse of Agony. Doing this will basically make your opponent immune to charm (not really immune, but the charm will break with every tick of damage done from your DOTS). Make sure that if you're going to cast Soul Fire, do it first thing.

Very nice warlock skill that now kinda sucks because Blizzard "normalized" it. Instead of 170% Spelldmg, it's now only at 100%. So basically, this means that the spell no longer has those insane high crits, and thus isn't quite worth spending a soul shard and 4 seconds on.

A bit silly Soulfire got nerfed regarding the bonus dmg it gains while pyroblast (mage talent) benefits 170% fire spell dmg and it can be made an instant cast every 3 minutes via talents . Go figure .

strange how our biggest nuke uses the least mana of the other "projectile" DD spells...less than shadowbolt,incinerate,conflag,shadowburn,etc

This routinely crits for 5-6,000... I just wish I could see the persons face when they are over half health and then BOOM they drop like a bolt of netherweave :P

Granted it is a very situational spell, but man is it awesome!

but this spell is realy good in pvp. 2k crit on lvl 49 is about 2/3 of many peoples hp :P.
think its useless wen your not dest. you can cast 2 SB's in 6sec

This spell is AMAZING for Destruction specced locks in pvp. Ive seen people 1 shotted with a 8.5k+ crit. 8)

my destro lvl49 lock critics more than 4k with soulfire rank 1. If i equip my full fire gear (then i have low stats) it critics more than 5k. you can inspect my gear. search http://www.wowarmory.com/character-sheet.xml?r=Khadgar&n=Paraskovya

What i like to do is have my succubbus seduse the target (pvp), then i have plenty of time to fire off a high dmg soul fire then i usually use fear or HoT and dot them up and when fear is almost up use death coil for the finale they are completely immobilized during the fight and they always get pwned by it.

this is quite useful for grinding/farming as well since u can open up with this, maybe use one dot, then soul drain to git ur shard bak, easy low mana kill.

6 sec cast is good for dropping agro before the massive hit u can git with it if using during a fight

With drain soul being allowed in PvP now, soul fire reagents are no problem.

Any 1on1 contains a huge advantage, since seducing or fearing the target and casting soul fire will give him at least 700 damage (this is on rank 1), and 1100 damage (non-crit!) with curse of element on.

I just had a 1434dmg crit with rank 1 soul fire and curse of element on a lvl 48 affliction (no talents in destruction yet) warlock against a level 45 creature in the Hinterlands.

Don't dismiss this spell please :) It's great.

At this level a mage's pyroblast causes 503 to 631 Fire damage and an additional 188 Fire damage over 12 sec. That's 631+188=819 damage non-crit, and this is optimistically speaking! Ours does around 1100 damage non-crit! For 30 mana less too ;) (and a soulshard, but that's easy to get back tbh!)

this move is definately for pvp, it allows u to kill w/o worrying about a priest casting shield (even though we own priests anyway) or pali's to cast shield. i'll tell u my story...

This pali (50) jumped me (49) while i was beating up a gryphon in hinterlands, so i finish off the gryphon, sacrifice void, dot the !@#$% up and cast a shadow bolt or two. Got him to about 75% when i feared him, shot off another shadow bolt than began casting sf. He got out of the fear with half health (about 1000hp) and thought he could finish me off, while he was running back he got pealted w/ my sf and hit the floor :P. If i would have casted another shadow bolt while he was feared he would have just shielded, healed than kicked my ass.

**overall it allows them not to react after sf as they would in between 2 shadow bolts

Soulfire can crit for ALOT. Theirs recorded 5k damage crits, ive also heared that some1 actually crit for 7k once, couldve been shadowbolt as well tho. It isnt to far fetched when you add up CoS/El with AV 30% damage buff.

Those huge crits of 7k+ only happen in BWL where certain mobs are extremely vulnerable to certain schools of magic.

As for critting for 5k+ yup. This does happen in PvP with enough +dmg to spells and a large vulnerability bonus.

OMG! i dont care if that 15k crit was in BWL or not, it is effin cool! As for destruct locks, i dont see why the stupid afflict locks dont wise up and go Des... What the hell is better than immolate, conflagrate, shadowburn, fear, and the a Soulfire to finish off the beotches!

In the last 30 duels i have lost only 2 times... once to a very crit happy rogue, and the other to a warlock with a felhunter out ( i put all my talents into making my imp god). So i think i've produced good results...

i have most of my felheart and was doing WSG when a warrior with most of wrath set (buy my guess at least) came after me 1 on 1, i fear CoE then soul fire. soul fire hits for 9k crit he drops dead and never comes after me alone again

well... this is a good spell for PvE!

if you use this to pull a mob then u can start killing them with their original HP - 1000!

not to mention instance bosses where the tank can take the aggro while your pet hurls boulders / ships them and you get ready for a HUGE spell!

i just want to know whether it is better to have, lets say +fire dmg, or +magic dmg/healin on gear for a spell like soul fire to hit harder? does it make a difference to that spell whether it is one or the other?

i know fire dmg will contribute to fire spells, and dmg/heal will contribute to all magic... but if u load +fire dmg and cast a fire spell will that dmg have more of an effect than +dmg/healin?

sorry if i confused some of you but i wanna get to know once and for all :)

Here are the pros and cons in comparison of the pyroblast of the mage and the soul fire of the warlock

Pyroblast:
Pro:
-you learn at a possible lvl 20
-deals additional dot dmg
-no cool down
-deals in total 691-919dmg
-35 yard range
Con:
-only those with talent in it learn it
-at lvl 48 it cost 335 mana
-due to having that extra dot its initial dmg is 503-631
Soul Fire:
Pro:
-everyone learns it
-at lvl 48 it cost 170 mana
-has semi early on talent that reduces its casting time from 6sec to 4sec
-deals 623-783 in total
-has a higher crit dmg possibility due to having all of its dmg happen at once and the ruin talent if you take it
-since it deals no dot dmg you can seduce afterwards for your next shadow bolt or what ever your plot is
Con:
-you learn at lvl 48
-requires a soul shard
-has one minute cooldown
-30 yard range

I just got SF and the first MOB I used it on was a 48 in Searing Gorge....1.5K Crit the very first use. I am dest spec'd which likely helped but still. Wow.

This guy said things pretty well. But let's take destruction locks into consideration. Through talents, the casting time of SF is only 4 seconds as opposed to 6. With an 1100 non crit (with curse of elements), to a 1400 crit, theres a 300 damage bonus. But through talents, destruction locks get 100% increased to critical strike damage, making it a 600 damage. This makes it no impossible task for a destruction lock to get a 1700+ soul fire crit at level 48. :)

yep that's the word I said when I critted 2.4k with this lovely spell from hell! I got 114 spell damage, and the highest I've critted before is 1.3k with shadowbolt, got 137 shadow spell damage too

With the main three DoT's *Immolate, CoA, Corruption* , my lock geared twards, Spirit and Intilect, with a 121 bounus spell damage, Add that all in with a Soulfire, Shadowburn and Conflagrate, I can easaly pull 6k in Damage in 5-10 seconds if my 12% spell crit goes off on every spell *which happens more often than not* Put Fear in there for PvP with a taste of Death Coil.

6k damage at lvl 48

I don't get it.
I have just got my SF by it dosn't crit for mor than 900dmg. even when u have curse of elements on, I know that my gear suck, maybe it's that..

How can you guys crit for 1200dmg, even more?

Nice, seeing you guys critting 2.4k with only 117 fiyah dmg makes me so much more pumped for this. By lvl 49 i will have my h4xorz trinket (ruby serpent) thats automatically +100 spell dmg. And on top of that Eye of Flame , or something like that, its an epic BoE, +43 spell dmg and 11int 11spir, (something like that). If i get around 300 spell damage, i'll be seeing many toasted gnomes. And to the post above me. Theres only one explanation, your spec. Either your not specced destruction, or you are specced destruction, but just didnt put points in Ruin , or Emberstorm. If your interested in high crits i suggest all warlocks re-roll Destructin : ) at lvl 40 i crit a 950 with shadowbolt : ) : )

-Around 50 Killing Blows, and 100+HonorKills, but ofc that bg lasted 30 mins, and the horde did it for me to enjoy me being 40, in the 30-39 bracket : ) <3Horde<3

I just made a 1309 soulfire crit on my level 48 lock today on a level 9 boar just to try it out. I used curse of the elements and sacrificed my imp to give me 24% increased fire damage. I forgot all about the firestone, so I'll have to use one of those to see if it ups the damage some more. I don't have any talents in Destruction yet, 5/34/0 so that crit surprised me a bit even though I had the buffs on. I used it a few times in Arathi Basin and got 700-800 damage which is normal I guess because I kept forgetting to put CoE on them. I just love this spell too much :) It also costs practically nothing mana wise so thats a nice plus too.

AWESOME! I'm a lvl 50 AFFLICTION lock and yesterday while I was doing an instince, I crit a demon for 1448 damage with this spell. Even though I'm not spec'd to do more fire dmg, I still am amazed at that much power out of a lvl 50 lock! I dont even do that much with my 60 mage, and omfgomfgomfgomfg! this lock is my godsend! I LOVE IT!

Ok today i dinged 48, knowing well about Soul Fire thanks to reading and hearing other people. I was expecting something around 1k damage if i were lucky (maybe 1.3) since i don't have ruin... But you can bet your mommys wheelchair i got surprised when i see a crit for about 2k! this is with only instance gear and about 2-3 BoE blues with +dam. This feels like the start of a long and good friendship :D

(CoE and berserker buff where both on but, what the heck! The rogue died just as he should have)

Just bought this as a lvl 48 all Demo lock with +225 spell damage (self-buffed). Went to ZF & crit this spell for 1624 on the boss in the cave. Total aggro puller, but i had my VW out (for a total of approx. -50% to damage taken by me) so I was able to tank the boss till he died. Ended up dealing out more damage than anyone in instance run by a full 25%, but I also took more damage in that same run than our main tank did by over 6%. Be careful when using this spell, as a high crit can make you a very hated target & if your tanks aren't good as keeping aggro you can find yourself tanking mobs/bosses until they die.

At lvl 48 with +76 spell dmg in AB, I used CoE then Soulfire on a 48 druid in human form....1988 crit one shotted. Absolutely ridiculous

I've just become lvl 48 and got Soul Fire. I tried it and after 3 times had a crit of 1230 damage! :D
I have to admit that I put curse of elements on it..... and I casted it on a rat. ;)
Can't wait to get Ruin with this...
