This should be quite profitable, shouldn't it? I heard mana was the most expensive Primal element.

I "discovered" this recipe tonight when I made a Primal Might.

I discovered this just minutes after reading about this =P
I was NOT Transmutation spec'd yet so it appears you just need to "work" on any transmutation.
I was doing a Skyfire diamond transmute for the record.

Confirmed: I was making a Primal Might when this ability was learned as well.
Pretty cool!
I am Master of Elixirs as well..so definitely not Transmution spec only.

I just discovered this tonight as well. Got it with a 375 skill while transmuting a primal might. I had the quest for Master of Transmutation, so not sure if it's linked to the 375 skill or being/working on mastery.

Guide to discovering potions/flasks/elixirs/transmutes.
For the casual gamer:
- Make sure your transmutation is always on cooldown. (You would probably log in at the same time everyday for a few hours, so keep a few reagents in your bag and do a transmute everytime its up.)
- Make potions and elixirs that you use although buying them from the auction house maybe cheaper than buying the reagents. ( You would probably have a cash flow set back so my advice is to have your second profession as herbalism to have a continuous supply of your own reagents.)
- Make yourself known to your guildmates and in game friends that you are an alchemist so that when party/raid members run low on potions/elixirs you can make some on the spot and charge them for it. (Try to keep stock of vials and herbs for potions/elixirs that move fast e.g netherbloom, terocone, mountain silversage, felweed, dreaming glory, etc...)
- My personal recomendations to such a gamer is to be a potion master. (Please don't flame me with your never ending argument on which mastery is better. I just think that a casual gamer trying to be a mobile alchemy auction house, potions are the most likely item people run out of that are essential to a raid/heroic.)
For the power gamer:
- Your transmutation timer has no excuse to be up. (If you're absent minded or loose track of time, set an alarm.)
- Make potions and elixirs that suffice your usage. Craft the item of your chosen mastery. Spread your crafts on a few items so you don't flood the auction house with one item. You should be able to be the most competetive seller since your procs yield you extra items. ( After a week or two you will be familiar with the items that sell and those that dont. Make more of the ones that do sell.)
- Make macros to advertise yourself as an alchemist on general chat when you cross teritories and trade chat when ur at a major city. (I find that listing some of your best potions/elixirs/flasks helps because not everyone is an alchemist and not everyone knows the available items in alchemy.)
- My personal recomendations to such a gamer is to be a elixir master. (Please don't flame me with your never ending argument on which mastery is better. I just think that a power gamer can spread his liabilities as there are a lot more elixirs compared to potions and such a gamer would be able to gather materials to create flasks {falls under elixir mastery}.)
Tips
- Always have reagents in your bag. If you run low on bag space priorotise for reagents on tansmutations.
- Make frequent trips to the auction house to know prices or download a mod that helps do it for you. I have mods but I still rely on my memory for all alchemy stuff because for alchemy its not an average of price over time. Its the price on that day, that week or that month. If your server is in end game you will be looking at completely different prices of all alchemy items compared to a server that has newly begun.
- Make frequent trips to the auction house to know your competitiors. If you can't beat their prices make a pact with them (e.g. you make certain items they make certain items, or if you're different masteries you should recomend your fellow customers to each other.)
- {More for power gamers} Be up to date on how far and how fast your server is progressing. This way you can be the first to be there with the items. (e.g. I sold more than 250 stacks of greater arcane protection potions alothough i knew how to make major arcane protection potions. At this point in time we're 3-4 months into the expansion and most players are still trying to save up cash or simply can't afford the major potions. On my server now, most guilds dont need them for the curator fight in karazhan but before they were experienced in taking him down they we're willing to pay my outrageous prices to have an edge on the encounters.)

Dirty tricks:
Knowing the backdoors in every game and business encounter definately helps. Since this is the low down section of my thread, and undenyably unscrupulous. I will only let you in on one of the not so sinster of my plots. (For my own conscience sake I don't want to corrupt the world.)
- {For herbalists} If you know of an item that sells well but its reagents are never on the auction house, create an alternate character and park him at an auction house. Advertise items that require this reagent and sell it for double or triple the price on your alternate character so that the buyer doesn't know that its you. (e.g. Not many people know about greater arcane elixir, and its a great elixir for casters altough its a lower level elixir compared to post TBC items. I sell reagents such as dreamfoil and mountain silversage at triple the normal price on my alternate character. My customers usually ask me if they are usually that expensive, I either tell them "Yeah thats the normal price nowadays." or "Thats cheap!!")
From past experience I have to state this for my peace of mind. Please dont send me a mail or ask me for more details on the "Dirty tricks" section. Thank you for reading my post, and if you slept half way... DUDE/DUDET you missed out, what were you thinking trying to sleep in one of my lectures!

So, there is no scrolls, which you can read and learn it? Only by doing other transmutions?
I need this very much, what transmutions should I do in order to gain this as quick as possible?

Here is a little something I do and have been doing for a while constant, endless source of cash.
You have to be master Transmute.
I got lucky and got
Fire to Mana
and after a while got
Mana to Fire
so if ever you get that combination you are set
So i started out with one primal air and transmuted
Air to Fire
and every morning I transmute one fire to mana or mana to fire. Don’t miss out one transmute do it over and over every morning and once in a while you get procs (gotta love them X3 and more) and you keep them and when you get more then you need you sell them that way you get free cash all the meanwhile you dont have to farm like crazy. The important thing is to always keep one mana or fire on hand. Since im a casual gamer and making money is time consuming well this way i can keep my play time to myself and not to farming money....
I guess you could do it with this combo too
Air to Fire
(shatar faction) -->
Fire to Earth
(maghar faction) -->
Earth to Water
(sporegar faction) -->
Water to Air
(Cenarion expedition faction)
might be better than watitng to learn the two above.
So too those that say is it profitable to transmute fire to earth. The answer is yes.

Transmutation of primals for profit is can be tricky business, as the economy of the server you are on dictates how profitable a transmute will be.
For example, on my server (Azdrool-n00b-rub) the following primals tend to sell at the following rates:
Primal Earth: 4-7g
Primal Shadow 7-11g
Primal Mana: 11-15g
Primal Water: 12-16g
Primal Fire: 19-22g
Primal Air: 25-30g
So given this sample, Transmuting Water to Air would be the most profitable, followed by Earth to Water. Your results will vary depending on your server's current economy. You also need to make sure you are not transmuting "backwards" in value, (for example Transmuting anything back to Earth would be a serious loss in value on my server). If you absolutely need a specific primal, and have the option to transmute to get it, I would only suggest doing so if the profitability is positive. Even as a transmutation master, do not gamble on getting extra primals to "cover" a potential loss on a backwards transmute. You're far better off finding the one transmute that gives the highest profit margin, and then "hoping" you get a mastery proc. (I have been transmuting once a day, every day, for the past 3 months, and it seems to proc on average about once every 5 days...maybe im just unlucky?).
In the above example, where the previous poster says that Fire to Earth is profitable, on my server I would have to highly disagree, as the only way you would make a profit is if you procced a X4 or X5, otherwise you are just losing money. Also, the opportunity cost of transmutation must be taken into account. Since you can only transmute once per day, you need to make sure that you are always transmuting the highest profit primal! if you dont have it, dont waste a day's cooldown on a less than profitable transmute, just go farm the mats. Spending 30 minutes farming is less work than burning a 23 hour cooldown.

Requirements to make a discovery
You must be crafting a potion, elixir, flask or performing a transmutation that was added in TBC.
As a rule of thumb that's anything that is learnt from a master alchemy trainer, dropped from a mob in outland or purchased from a vendor in outland. The only real exceptions are the pre-TBC flasks that have been made available from faction vendors in outland.
NOT requirements to make a discovery
You don't need to be in outland
You don't need a mastery
You don't need to be 375 alchemy
You don't need to be level 70
You don't need to craft yellow or orange recipes to make discoveries. Even grey recipes can proc discoveries
You don't need to be crafting a related recipe *except* in the case of cauldrons (You can discover flasks when making potions for example)
List of recipes learned by discovery (accurate as of 29/01/2008)
Flasks
Flask of Blinding Light
Flask of Fortification
Flask of Mighty Restoration
Flask of Pure Death
Flask of Relentless Assault
Potions
Super Rejuvenation Potion
Transmutes
Earth to Life
Life to Earth
Shadow to Water
Water to Shadow
Fire to Mana
Mana to Fire
Cauldrons
- To discover these you need to be crafting the related major protection potion. Cauldron of Major Holy Protection is believed to be non-existent. The discovery of these recipes is much more likely.
Cauldron of Major Arcane Protection
Cauldron of Major Fire Protection
Cauldron of Major Frost Protection
Cauldron of Major Nature Protection
Cauldron of Major Shadow Protection

Just had this discovery while transmuting earth to water.
To the poster that said people around him/her saw the orange discovery message, I think only we see it. I asked a friend standing right next to me and he said it didn't show up for him :/
It was pretty unexpected none the less, but I don't see myself ever using it :)
