Second boss in Magisters' Terrace.
He will spawn adds once in a while similar to The Curator in Karazhan. They must be killed as fast as possible as they arc of energy as they fly around, casuing damage to the players.
Once the adds are killed, you can continue DPSing him down. He will shrink as he spawns the adds.

Normal Instance Strategy:
As stated above this is almost the same thing as the Kara - Curator fight.
His room is full of Mana Wyrm type mobs that come in groups of about 8-10. If you have a Paladin Tank they can pull the entire room while your AoE (if available) kills them in seconds. When they are all dead a Blood Elf comes, just another trash mob.
The boss is retarded easy (probably will get buffed). He spawns small wisp type adds that aoe anyone nearby for moderate damage. They die fast, and easy. Kill them first so they dont get into your dps/healer line and cause trouble. The boss goes down fairly fast as well, a good group will probably only have to deal with maybe 5 of these adds before finishing him.

On heroic mode he seems to spawn the pure energy all the time and it doesn't decrease his size.
The energy blobs do a magic attack on the highest threat target which gives you a dot as well as increasing the damage done (and size) by you by 50% per stack. It kept stacking until boss was dead so i don't think there is a limit.
As a druid tank i kept swiping, so the adds were on me. At the end i did 400% damage and was tall as a house, and had a ~2400 per second dot on me which lasted i think 20 seconds. (8 stacks)
I think best tactic is for the tank to try to aggro the energy, so he does more aggro and there is only 1 target to heal. Getting the dot on dps wiped us the first try.
edit: dot was worse than i remembered

I believe that this room is intended to be done in a very short amount of time. The Mana Wyrms just before him apply a stacking buff that increases damage by 1% (each stack), and lasts about 15 seconds, and they also restore mana when they die. Each of the large packs contains 25 Mana Wyrms (Which, when exploding for 150 mana, give a good amount of mana back), which equates to a 50% damage increase, on top of his neat debuff he applies.

A rogue can use blade flurry, kill every add and do as much damage as he can and Cloak of shadows just before dieing.
A paladin can also BoP through the dots

I can't even describe my thoughts on this boss on Heroic. We have tried everything, I even went tot he AH and purchased some Arcane Resist gear. We are currently trying our shaman throwing on some healing gear and having 2 healers, and me (the tank) getting all of the adds.
I just don't see how this boss is possible, if you have done it please provide some help. My group does full Kara clears in about 3.5 hours, we kill Mag and Void Reaver...I mean, we aren't noobs, we don't have bad gear. But we have been trying forever and just can't seem to get him below about 11%.

On normal, this fight is ridiculously easy. The method we did was assigning an order to the 3 dpers - each one would pop the Pure Energy in that order, to ensure an even spread of debuffs. However, it would work fine if you just told them to kill it if they had the same number of debuffs, or less than the other 2 dpsers, and to keep track of theres. Noone should gain more than 2 of the debuffs - if they do, they've killed one when they shouldn't have, or your dps is so low that you wouldn't be able to burn him through overload anyway.
In any case, the strat is simple...
1. Tank tanks and spanks like normal.
2. Dps dpses, but saves their cooldowns.
3. Dps rotates on killing the pure energy. All 3 can attack it, but if someone has more debuffs than the others (ie. one person has 1 and the other 2 have none) they should not attack it at all as they risk an accidental killing blow. They are very weak in any case.
4. At 15% blow your cooldowns and burn him down. Due to the +damage debuffs this is not difficult at all.
The reason that you can't let someone gain more than 2 debuffs is two-fold. Not only will their arcane dot tick for such a large amount that they risk dying (and removing a dpser from the fight), but if they do die, they also waste all the +damage they gained from the buffs - which is important in burning him through the overload.
Good luck, and enjoy the fight!

My strategy for heroic went something like this: I (hunter) used my pet to scoop 3-4 of the adds. After just one or two, I could easily keep him up with mend pet, allowing the healer to focus on keeping the tank up. By the time the DoTs killed my pet, we had the boss low enough on HP that we could finish him off without any people dying.

In the General chat inside Magisters Terrace, people were saying this boss was quite easily doable on Heroic mode. What they neglected to mention was that they were T6 geared.
For our group of competent guild players, SSC/TK level of gear, we found this boss to be insanely hard on Heroic.
Normal mode, sure, he's a walkover, well, maybe not a walkover, but quite easy. Heroic mode, he is a pain in the backside (and thats the most family friendly choice of words I can use). We went through 1 repair bot and another hearth/summon repair before giving up, and our best try was only 10%.
He spawns 2 arcane adds at once, and our group composition was Rogue, Mage, Warlock, Paladin, Warrior. We used the Rogue to kill the first 2, then Cloak of Shadows out of the Arcane dots, then the mage nuked the second 2, and Ice Blocked out. The mage then used Cold Snap and grabbed the third spawns, and Ice Blocked again.
However, the damage was still to insane for our poor Paladin to heal through, and we gave up after wasting a shed load of gold.
From the comments from the 'pro' guilds on my server that have actually completed Heroic mode, this boss is easily the hardest one in the whole instance on Heroic. We were getting so annoyed that we were even contemplating Soulstoning the Paladin and seeing if we could run through and past the boss. Crazy.
Just a heads up for anyone that intends to attempt this boss.

This boss is actually one of the easiest in the instance on heroic. At first we did like every1 else, full throttle dps and just hoping for the best (resulting in somewhat like 5 wipes :D). We are all in Kara - badge and a little SSC gear
We had a somewhat decent group consisting of:
Fury warrior
Prot pally
Holy Priest
Ele shammy
Boomkin
At first we tried going full out dps on him, only resulting in all of us having the debuff on the same time. The wisps? he spawns are based on how much hp he is at, the first one spawns at around 85%.
I(Fury warrior) swapped into my PvP gear, equipping a shield in defensive stance (to get most dmg mitigation and more hp).
We DPS'ed him to 85%, i would kill both the adds, the boomkin would heal me and only me while the priest took care of ele shaman and paladin.
When second round of adds came i would kill those aswell, still only having the boomkin heal me, not dps. The ele shaman would stop dps untill my debuff (25 secs) wore off. Then he would dps again untill i once again got both the set of adds (4 debuffs total), and when they wore off id kill the next set of adds (the last set at 25%), and we would all go full out dps to get him from 25 -> 0 with the boomkin still healing me.
This is like i said a very easy encounter if you have just 1 offhealer, and you controll your dps. It took us around 3 mins to kill him and it was with everyone still being at 50% mana when he died.
Anyways, if you arent full T6 this is definently a viable and good tac to get him down.

A macro to target the Pure Energy helps quite a bit. Also if you're rotating DPS on them, you can add something to say that you're on it.
/target Pure Energy
/say Attacking Pure Energy

Ok: Tank goes ahead to tank it.
One of you dps the boss and when he spawns the pure energy: Hit it (had a mage kill them with one hit from his wand)
The rest: DPS the hell out of him.
Healer: Heal the tank and the one that kills the adds (killing the add results in 3 or 4 hits that dmg between 200-600 dmg each time)
When the boss hits 10% hp, nuke him FAST or the overcharge MIGHT wipe you all.
It worked perfectly, hope it helps:)

This boss is trivial on both difficulties. There is one strategy if you want to ensure victory every single time, and that is simply to slow down. The faster you damage the boss, the less time there is between adds. If you don't have massive DPS (thus you are unable to power him down in 30-45 seconds), then you can use the slow and steady technique.
Engage boss, damage it until the first adds spawn, immediately stop DPS (except the tank, who keeps up aggro). After 30 seconds, the debuffs wear off whomever had them (as a tank, I try to get at least one). Once the debuff wears off, light the boss up again. Repeat until 15%.
At 15%, hit the boss with everything you have.
I've done this boss twice on heroic (as of this posting). The first time we simply powered through it and escaped with a narrow victory (after a few tries).
The second time, we tried to power through but our DPS wasn't nearly as strong as the first group. Thus, the fight dragged out long enough to let everyone get the debuffs (they were stacking 5 and 6 high), yet we never gave ourselves time to let the debuff wear off. This resulted in a couple of wipes.
Being frustrated that we had beaten this boss on Heroic before, without nearly as much trouble, we decided to try something different. Unfortunately, one of the group members did the old "alt-f4" and we were left with 4 members.
Not ones to give up, we decided to give it another go without the 3rd DPS. We easily killed Heroic Vex with only 2 DPS. Besides me (tank), no one really even lost much health.
Give the slow and steady method a try, it really makes this boss a joke.

If you have a warlock or a hunter in your group this strategy works very well. Have the hunter/lock use htis macro:
/petattack
Whenever an add spawns press the macro and the pet will run off and kill it. Pressing the macro does not cause you to lose your target so you can freely DPS. I am a hunter, and my pet lived through 4-5 adds before dying to the dots. By that time the boss was at 10%.
The taking it slow strat seems like a good idea, but if you let your pet take the debuff it can only help.

spawns adds evry 15% so slow dps on boss ..
85% stop dps 1 take down the adds , healer top evry1 take another 15% , rinse and repeat really easy if you take your time. only the tank on dps is enough to bring him down between the phases.
adds = 85% 70% 55% 40% 25%
i was tanking it with my crafted arcane resist set to ease on the heals

Heroic Strategy: Hard and Fast
Boss Abilities:
2 Pure Energy Add Spawns (Arcane Damage): Every 15% (85, 70, 55, 40, 24)
Arcane Shock: 2500-3000 Direct Damage and a 400-500 every 3 seconds over 12 seconds.
(source)
Chain Lightning (Nature Damage)
Melee (Arcane Damage)
Overload (15-20%): Stacking Debuff that increases arcane damage by 10% with each application.
Add Attributes:
Any
Damage Kills Them(Thorns, Molten Armor, etc): When killed places a debuff on you that does 300 arcane damage per tick, per stack and increases your damage by 50% per stack.
Until they are killed the
(appear to)
do a frequent AE arcane arc that hits for roughly 3k on everyone who is near.
(source)
Dealing with the Adds:
If you want to go hard and fast you need to soak the Pure Energy spawns.
The quicker you kill them the less AE damage they can do.
We used the following macros.
/target Pure Energy
/cast Ice Lance(Short Cast Spell)
The above macro in some form was mashed by the class chosen to eat the dot. The dot can be removed with cloak of shadows, iceblock and possible other abilities. For a rogue, eat two every time cloak of shadows is up and available. For a warlock, eat at least 4 and then drain life with the fel hunter(higher resists) to reduce the dot, for a mage, eat 4 if you have a secondary healer and then iceblock it. Near the 30-40% mark dps should try to all get 1 debuff so you can go nuts on DPS.
Our group composition was Warrior, Priest, Fire Mage, Enh Shaman, Demo Lock.
Our Warlock used their Fel Hunter for arcane resistances, killed the first two sets (4 adds), that's a 200% increase in power, and then just kept drain life ticking away and was able to heal themselves basically with no heals.
As the mage I took sets 3 and 4. I DPSed between the two and immediately iceblocked out of the 2nd set to reduce healing requirements.
The Enhance shaman put on healing gear to assist our priest. This boss has EXCEPTIONALLY low hitpoints. We didn't need 3 DPS here.
Our Warrior used 100+ arcane resist and it reduced his incoming damage considerably.
We found that with kara/Gruul/ZA level gear the boss just died way too fast to try and stop dps particularly with a stray dot ticking, we wound up getting to the next spawns before the Debuff wore off while our DPS was stopped.
Notes:
As a mage using molten armor if I got tagged by a Pure Energy my Molten Armor would kill it and put the debuff on me.
THORNS: If you have a druid and want the dot to stick to one member of your party I am GUESSING that you could put thorns on the tank and the first AE pulse would kill both spawns and but the dots on the tank.
Use the Debuff To Power Through Overload: Overload is BRUTAL. The warlock had 4 stacks of the debuff and I picked on up just for the last 20% to get him down faster. Don't be afraid to use it. You almost need to.
Key Words:
You will note as soon as the event starts he says "Drain Life." it is my guess a warlock could kill every add spawn and stay alive by keeping drain life going.
If you have 3 dps and 1 can heal, heal, 2 dps is PLENTY. The healing is rough though.

remember to have hunter in party, let his pet take all the adds until it dies the boss should be low health by that and then take the adds in row and save mana until its 10%
or if there is not a hunter then 1 guy takes alot of adds (prefer mage)

Just did this on heroic, wasn't that hard. Setup was:
Paladin Tank t4ish gear
Holy Priest BT/MH gear
Fire Mage TK/MH gear
Shadow Priest Crafted/MH gear
Rogue BT/MH gear
I (Mage) took the early adds then iceblocked off the debuff, then took them again. With decent group healing and one person on the adds this fight becomes really easy. Don't give up

After having killed this boss a few times it is clear to me that he is very easy on Normal and the hardest part of the Instance on Heroic.
Now on Normal we just zerg him, we do not assign players to take the debuff we actually compete with each other to kill the adds first and then see who can get the biggest hit :-)
On Heroic though we take it slow, I (Warlock, second highest HP after Tank) take both adds when they spawn then we switch off all DPS until the debuff has worn off. Rinse and repeat then nuke at about 15%. With this strat it is only difficult if people are not paying attention so good luck if you want to pug it, so far I have only done Heroic with a good guild group.
Drain Life strat sounds more fun though I am going to try that next time. I will definitely die at some point, hopefully after the boss has but if I get all 10 debuffs can you imagine how high I could crit O_o
EDIT: Tried the Drain Life Strategy with an off-spec Healer healing me as well, while our main Healer stayed on Tank. Made the fight trivial, of course I died at the end but my Drain Life was ticking for 2K which apart from healing me very quickly is also very high DPS as well.

Heroic Vexallus
Also, i want to add that after trying many different things for this boss, including downing him with those methods... we found that the easiest method is to just bring in another healer to take a DPS's spot. We had a pally healing me and a resto druid raid healing. EASIEST THING EVER, i swear, take it steady until 10-15% and then have all the dps explode on the boss.
Basically what was going wrong with 3 dps was the boss was getting owned to fast, more and more orbs kept going on the dps'ers (all ranged) and the debuff kept stacking on whoever was killing them, so this was very stressful for the healer. 1 less DPS gets rid of the problem with too much DPS and the extra healer for group healing will let you one shot this boss everytime or you can transfer to jaedenar and i'll pay your repair bills.

Easiest strategy for heroic mode:
1) the
TANK
(warrior in my case) kills the adds! (just use the TAB key to change targets easily; the adds die from one Devastate but seem to be immune to Thunder Clap).
2) all melee stay far from him, which means that only the tank will need healing(just like in any other common situation, so no party-healer is needed).
3) all ranged dps nuke boss! If there are no ranged dps, you can even let the tank kill the boss since he doesn't have too much hit points anyway(it depends on your healer if he can heal well the tank and at least one other melee dps but there's no need to die for nothing at this boss; remember, there is no enrage timer :) ).

This seems like a very situational strategy for the group,
Group:
Fire mage (me), late kara epics
MM hunter, late kara epics
Combat rogue, kara epics and pvp gear
Feral druid tank, early kara epics and heroic gear
Holy priest, pre-kara gear
I put Dampen Magic on everybody except the tank. We engaged the boss, and started dpsing. When the first set of adds spawned, the hunter's pet took them. The second set, the pet took one and the rogue took the other. I dont remember how many other sets of adds spawned after that, but I took down two and the rogue took the rest. The rogue CoS'ed the debuffs off at 3 stacks, I actually never used Ice Block.
When Overload started, the rogue and I leaned on the Pure Energy debuffs to dps him down fast. He barely got off two overloads before we killed him.
Moral of the story: One or two stacks of the dot will help you kill him in overload phase, and by the time you are running heroics you should have a large enough health pool to support it.

Just found a great method for this boss, if you dont have any rogues/mages, you can dps vexallus down very slowly, and wait for debuff to expire... just simply outhealing the damage.
My group wiped 4 times to him (at heroic) and got him down with 1st try by using this strategy

I have to say to all those people saying this boss is hard, that you're just doing it wrong, i did this with a pug, i'm in s1-s3 gear with maybe 2 non pvp items, (arms warrior)
Basicly we had 1 resto druid, 1 prot war, 1 lock, 1 spriest and it was a total laughing stock
I took all the adds and ended up with a 300% damage bonus and burnt him from 40% down to nothing in a few seconds with the resto druid going all out and the spriest backup healing, now i'm not gona say this is fool proof because at any stage i could have fallen over flat on my face, but the tank was aborbing a fair portion of the damage via taunts, it just turned out to be a lolrus of a fight.

For Warrior tanks tanking Vexallus;
This has been noted many times above, but I just wanted to reiterate the efficacy of using a macro to target the pure energy adds Vexallus spawns. The PuG group I completed heroic Mag. Terr. with had some trouble with the adds because of the buff you receive from killing them. THUNDERCLAP does not deal sufficient damage to the Pure Energy spawns to kill them, so you must use cleave or whirlwind. I suggest the tank takes the first two buffs. As any war tank who’s done this instance knows trying to tank Vexallus and kill two orbs can turn out to be chaotic; make a macro; (I was not sure how to make a macro to automatically switch stances, so I changed my stance manually to 'beserker' and popped 'bloodrage' and hit macro)
/target pure energy
/cast whirlwind
This macro worked like a charm…did not lose aggro on Vexallus and merked the first two orbs quickly. Then the rogue, mage, and hunter took the next debuffs. Our priest had no problem healing throughout this battle. Just my input : )

The KEY to this FIGHT is steady DPS don't try to nuke him down as it will make the adds spawn faster, after every add wave slow down dps so the healer can catch up with heals.
if your group does that then it's pretty much easy fight.
a note: hunter pet and warlock pets can take up the debuffs aswell making the fight even more easy

Put a warlock in some AR gear (greens from AH will do, and Violet Eye trinket helps.)
I'm able to outheal the damage from the Pure Energy's debuff on me up to 4 stacks with just drain life and siphon life with 160 Arcane Resist.
Even when he overloads I'm almost able to keep myself alive without outside heals (Almost. Still needed a bit of love from the priest.)
Also, have a Voidwalker out and use a macro to make him eat the first two energies. If you get Fort and Kings on him he can last long enough to eat 4.
Something like
/target Pure Energy
/petattack
/targetlasttarget
works for me.

Vexallus Strat (Heroic)
When approaching this boss, there is a room full of huge mana wyrm packs. When you kill them you get a bonus to the damage you deal, so it is advisable to pull them as quickly as possible then move right on to the boss so you maintain the damage bonus when you get to him. They also regen your mana when they die so theres no need to stop and drink (similar to the wyrms before curator)
Boss Spawns 2 adds at a time, approximately every 20% of health loss. The adds have basically no health and can be one shot by almost any attack. If you dont kill the adds, i beleive they do some heavy chain lighting type attack to the party.
Killing an add has a debuff and a buff. For each add you kill you take damage every second (approx 300 damage for the first add, and it increases exponentially.) It also buffs you with a bonus to the damage you deal.
The boss goes down pretty fast if you lay DPS on him, the key is to not over work your healer by taking too many debuffs on one person. You can definitly remove the debuff as a mage by ice blocking, I would assume a pally shield would do the same, and possibly a rogue vanish.
As a General strategy I would have a mage take 3 debuffs (kill 3 of the adds as they spawn) then ice block, and then possibly kill 1 or 2 more. Have a warlock kill 2-3 adds and drain life the boss. Another handy strategy is to use a warlock or hunter pet kill a couple adds, the warlock can then sac his pet before it dies. The tank can usually safely take 2 debuffs and still be managable to heal. Also in general spread 1-2 debuffs around the party. Basically any party make up can manage as long as everyone has an idea of how many adds they can kill and still be managable to heal and such.

The group I use for this is:
Prot Paladin (me)
Shadow Priest
Resto Druid
Survival Hunter
Fire Mage
First of all, and I know this is known, but I'd like to point out, that this boss and adds deal nothing but arcane damage. So, having high arcane resist is a great thing here. Also, some don't clue in on right away that such damage ignores all armor classes. That being said, here's how we do it, and we never have any problem.
The most important people in this fight are the DPS. The tank just has to hold agro. To make it much easier on the healer, I equip my
Violet Badge
,
Cloak of Arcane Evasion
, with +12 def and
Arcanoweave Vestments
with +15 def on chest, +12 def on wrists, and +12 stam on boots. I also use
The Fel Barrier
with +5 resist all. Without any buffs, I have 197 arcane resist. This allows the healer to focus more on the dps and mainly put hots with a few big heals on me, if needed.
First, the spriest picks up the first add, just to get the 50% increase in damage. Takes some damage from it, but hots from the druid keep him up. The hunter sends the pet in to take as many adds that the pet can take. This allows the dps to focus fully on Vexallus. The pet lasts till almost 50% before finally dying. Once that happens, the mage picks up the rest of the adds and nukes the boss. When the mage gets too low on health, he ice blocks, the druid heals him to full and he does it again.
Usually, Vex is down before the mage has to take add duty again, so we don't have to worry about it. Along with spreading out to avoid the chained lightening, and doing all of the stuff I said above, we have no problems in this fight. It makes Heroic Vex seem just as easy as any normal boss fight.

Heroic:
I realize my strategy for this boss might be a little out of reach for some people but it's submitted from my character's POV (Prot Pally).
If you notice, his damage is pure Arcane which means that a clothie could essentially tank the guy AND the flares if he had 365 Arcane Resist (for a lvl 71 - no need to be AR capped) and the heals. So I crafted the following:
Cloak of Arcane Evasion:
https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/item=30831
Enchanted Adamantite Belt:
https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/item=23510
Enchanted Adamantite Boots:

Enchanted Adamantite Breastplate:
https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/item=23509
Enchanted Adamantite Leggings:
https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/item=23512
Ring of Arcane Shielding:
https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/item=30825
Pendant of the Null Rune:
https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/item=24098
Soulcloth Gloves:
https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/item=21863
Soulcloth Shoulders:
https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/item=21864
Arcanoweave Bracers:
https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/item=21866
+Violet Eye Trinket
That'll get you to about 367 AR not including MotW or any other racial buffs or whatever. BUT what that essentially means is that the prot pally can now run around and consecrate kill all the flare things and laugh at the measly damage. His normal 3k-4k hits were instead hitting for around 500-700 which can typically be HOT'd through.
Even if you can't afford the gear, just the mere knowledge that his attacks hit for AR damage helps significantly as it means you can stack less defense/shield rating/shield block rating and more stam and pure avoidance (dodge parry).
The entire set costs around 1600g if you wanted to craft it from scratch so it ain't cheap; but I already had all the mats and it does completely trivialize the fight.

The key to this fight is not *who* kills the adds, but how fast you can. While the DoT is annoying and might kill someone if they get it stacked too high, the adds WILL kill people if you leave them while you debate about who kills it and let it AoE the group.
On normal, it might be best to simply have the tank kill them all. They will be killed by any attack instantly and the threat boost is handy; and you should have more than enough HP to live through the DoT even when Vexallus overloads.
On heroic, have the tank try to kill at least one add on every wave. The other should be killed by one of the DPSers. Use common sense here; while you want to avoid killing an add if you already have 3-4 of the debuff, you also don't want to let it run loose if the other DPSers are distracted.

I've found that if you save all your cool downs for that last 10% of the fight it really helps. With the exception of the shaman's BL and Fire Elemental which you would probably want to use around 40%-50% so you ge the full effect.
The last 10% of his life is the most dangerous and where most people/groups die.

In heroic, I tank this boss in pure Arcane Resist gear (375 atm). I resist over 75% of the dmg (aside from the overload and pure energy dots which can't be resisted at all), and the dmg that he does cause to me is easily replaced by a renew or even an earthshield. One thing Eltankadin failed to mention is that you dont need plate to tank this guy. Since ALL his hits are pure arcane (aside from a random nature dmg chain lightning) I recommend picking up green's off the AH and filling your toon with them. He'll hit you for 4k Arcane if your wearing plate or cloth, so save yourself come coin and live green.
The only catch to this is making sure you can generate enough threat to hold aggro, so I recommend keeping one key peice of gear, like pants or chest, and your weapon, to help boost your stats, but other than that, greens are legit for this.
This way if your group doesn't like waiting 5 minutes to kill a boss, you can have one dps go full out on the boss, getting all the adds, and the healer just spam large heals on them. Last run our Shaman was bigger than the boss cause he had 8 debuffs + Bloodlust!

Easy way to tackle adds/debuffs on heroic. You need a hunter (pref. BM) or warlock for this tactic to work.
Two adds will spawn at 85%, 70%, 55%, 40% and 25%. Use pet to engage and kill both targets. When pet dies, revive/summon it again. Rinse and repeat. When he reaches the overload phase, full DPS.
I use
Mend Pet
after the first two adds, and then just let the pet die after the second wave. For the third, fourth and fifth wave, I revive the pet and don't bother healing it.
Revive Pet
is 4 second cast time
This is in my experience the easiest way to deal with Vexallus on heroic mode. You pet It might be a bit angry when the fight is done, but hey.. that's what
Feed Pet
is for, right? :-)

Currently there's a bug with this encounter which makes this boss much easier than intended.
There are 4 candlestands in his room. If you stand between one of these and the pillar next to it, you will not receive the
Energy Feedback
debuff after killing a Pure Energy.
If your healer is having a hard time trying keep up both the tank and the rest of the group, just tell a dps to stand in one of those places and kill the adds as soon as they spawns.

I stacked Arcane Resistance gear (292) on this boss as a tank and it became enormously easy. I was able to solo the overload phase with only a healer with me... So tanks, grab that Arcane Res set!

The pure energy add's shouldn't be out long enough to to even do their AE.
If they do set one out, your DPS isn't paying attention, and should be kicked.

Just like to make a most likely helpful addition. The candles on either side of the hallway can make this fight enormously easier. If you can wedge yourself midair between the candle and the wall, the debuffs from destroying the charges go away instantly. this eliminates the need for rotation and makes this fight easier for everyone.

On heroic mode of this boss we found the easiest way to kill him and handle the adds at same time was to have a hunter and a mage with cold snap+ice block, we had the hunters pet take the first 2 adds and let the pet die, while we dpsed him fast, now he has 8 adds left to spawn, the next 4, have the mage take all of them while you have the healer throwing heals on him, the moment the mage has 4 stacks of the debuff he ice blocks to cancel it, the he cold snaps immediaetly, by the time he has the last 4 on him again the ice blocks debuff will be gone and he can ice block again. i was the mage doing this and we found it works very well with an off-healer

Took all the adds as a fire mage with no healing or iceblocking.
It appears there is a glitch, whereby if you tand on the skirting boards behind the very thin trees in the corners before the stairs, then you can attack, but you are out of LOS for the debuff, thus suffering no ill-effects.
Make this boss epic EZ mode, even on heroic.

Seeing as healing through overload and the add debuffs is a pain in the rump, that has likely caused more then afew groups to wipe.
Here is an alternate strat for him that my group does in the heroic.
Soulstone the mage (or LOLadin/Rouge if thats what you use)
(note: the entire strat is based on having a soulstone or a shaman with reincarnate up if you don't use either don't bother reading.)
First 6 adds spawn the mage ice lances them all and continues to burn the mob untill he dies. (pop a health pot and healthstone untill you have all 6 to help stay alive)
After the mage is dead, use the soulstone to get back up take the last 4 adds as they spawn then just ice block them off.
No more adds and no more extra dot damage to worry about, much less heal intensive at that point even with overload. we kill this boss without any deaths (other then the single intentional death) 70% of the time.
With 6 of those debuffs on the mage should be blasting for 10K hits easy before they die as well, makes for a very quick fight. Also with 4 debuffs after the intentional death I critical for 12k easily before i need to ice block off the dots.
This is my armory btw:
http://www.wowarmory.com/character-sheet.xml?r=Zul%27jin&n=Rinion
If i can execute this strat with my low hp, should be way easier for someone better geared or someone with a set of mage tank gear.... which I need to get.
Alternativly this could be done with a rouge or LOLadin who have similar skills as iceblock. Also, it could be done with a shaman if you lack a warlock, he could probably take close to 8 if his HP is good then reincarnate after death leaving only 2 adds to deal with.
We ussualy use me for this becasue of how quick a mage can kill them with ice lance

I agree with pyro, on heroic if he is DPSed too fast, he can have multipule groups of sparks out at once, whiping you. Every 15% health you should stop dpsing and kill any sparks that are still alive.

This boss may be considered one of the best for Huge crits. Each debuff giving you 50% dmg with 10 avaible debuffs in heroic mode. This will result in a 500% damage increase, which is pritty much the Ultimate Crit test. I've tried this only one single time so far, and it was insane.
Setup:
Prot Warrior
Demonic Sac / Affliction warlock (highest possible CoD, respeced for this fight only(me))
Shadow Priest
Resto Druid
Resto Druid (my privat healer)
Reason we have two resto druids was just to keep me alive, while the priest kept up missery and Shadow vulnerbility. With both druids hots full on me, I barely got off an CoD with trinkets, orc racial, Amplify curse etc. Once curse on him I died, priest kept on using rank 1 pain whenever he had to renew the duration of shadow vulnerbility. Best thing to do as a lock, get max stam gear as well as tons of spell dmg.
Result: Skipped Overloard, the curse hit him way over 50k
Happy hunting, this is deffinately worth watching. Next up: Execute Warrior and Mutilate Rogue :)

Did this today as a Demo lock. Make up was:
Prot Warrior (tank)
Resto Shaman (heals)
Mage (DPS)
Demo Lock (DPS)
Rogue (DPS)
A strategy with this "standard group makeup", is to have a Warlock.
All I did was throw DoTs on with CoD, and have my Void Walker (VW) at the ready. My MOD pops up when he releases energy so I knew to use the macro listed in the comments here.
My VW would take the orbs real quick, fast enough they didn't get shots off, and then I would immediately have him hitting on Vex. Refresh DoTs and Immolate then immediately start casting another VW.
My multiple VW's took all of the orbs while the other group members focused on downing Vex.
To note, pop VW sacrifice shield when Vex is down to 10% to avoid unnecessary death.

When he overloads thats when the Fun starts. I Use Bearskin and Pop tranquility and hope that he is dead before Tranq finishes. After that idk what any healer can do. FYI im at 1900 healing with Kara nad badge gear

The key to this fight is most definitely killing the adds ASAP. Most healers can keep up the DPS through the debuffs, but simultaneously taking the 3k AOE from the adds will usually lead to a wipe.
Use a targetting macro to kill the adds as soon as they spawn. Warlocks are especially great for this fight since they can simply spam drain life with any number of debuffs and heal themselves through it.

This fight is very easy if you have a warlock or hunter.
For adds 1,3,5 or 2,4,6 just have their pet kill them, unsummon the pet, then resummon the pet. Unsummoning prevents the aoe, and by the time 2 more sets of adds are out their pet is back up.

Heroic walk-through.
Simply put this can be an awful fight.
The boss will continually spawn adds who will AoE Arcane damage to everyone within a decent range. These must be dealt with.
Nominate your two highest damage ranged DPS for 'add duty' These will be called Players A and B for this walk-through.
---Tank: highly recommend at least 150 arcane resistance as this fight is nasty on damage and the less damage you take the more healing your group can take. Do not be fooled this gear is wipe saving. a set of 200 Arcane resist gear (Enchanted Adamantite is a good base + AH greenies, do not worry about going below 490 defense for this gear as the resist you gain is worth far more than 0.20% crit chance)
--Healer: Keep everyone topped off as much as possible.
IMPORTANT: When the adds are killed the person who killed them takes 300 damage per second for each of these adds they kill, they also gain a large + spell damage bonus.
Step 1: Tank takes boss and builds aggro; everyone have some damage/DoT's on the boss.
Step 2: Boss spawns 2 adds: Player A single targer nukes them into atoms.
Step 3: Damage boss.
Step 4: Boss spawns 2 more adds. Player A nukes these as well.
Step 5: Damage boss --- Healer heals player A as they are now taking 1200 damage per second.
Step 6: Boss Spawns two more adds: Player B nukes these.
Step 7-8-9: Same as 3-4-5 but for Player B.
Step 10: At 10% Vexallus Overloads. When this is announced NUKE THE BOSS. Nuke him like he just keyed your car and put sugar in your petrol tank.
--- The boss does 1000 damage per second increasing by 100 damage for every second so it ticks like: 1000, 1100, 1200, 1300, 1400: This damage is UNRESISTABLE and is NOT AFFECTED BY SHIELD WALL.
The only real way to do this from this point is to nuke the boss down FAST. Save cooldowns, trinkets, healthstones, the lot.
Iceblock removes the debuff fro killing adds along with Divine Shield and such.
I cannot see the point of Shield Block for this fight as I have yet to see a blocked attack from Vexallus: use your rage elsewhere Warriors and Paladins will feel the pressure: use your angel wings abd do everything you can to build aggro: you will not need much for the first part of the fight but at 20% you better pray you can hold this bomb of a boss.
Congratulations: you just downed the hardest boss in Heroic MgT, collect you badge and epics.

This strategy is for downing Vexallus on Heroic Difficulty.
Group makeup isn't important, although I found it easy as a Mage, with a Druid healer HoTing me. Therefore, I'll say the strategy I used with me, as a mage.
First order of business is to have a class that has an instant cast spell with no cooldown. Hunters normal shot works, Mage's ice lance, etc. Wanding takes just a bit longer, but can work as well. But you need a ranged class capable of shooting/hitting a Pure Energy ball quickly.
When Vexallus first summons two Pure Energy adds, the Mage ice lances both immediately, taking the debuff. Druid healer casts HoTs on the mage. Other DPS continues on the boss.
Second wave of Pure Energy adds spawns, continue with ice lancing them both. Hots should be stacked and keeping you up still against the debuff.
Third wave of Pure Energy adds spawns, ice lance both again, then Ice Block. This removes the debuff, and gives time for the heals to catch up to you, also making you immune to his Overload, since generally the DPS has him low at this point.
After that, pop out of ice block and DPS him down normally. If there are more adds, you can split the debuff evenly throughout the group, or just pick the debuff up again as the mage, seeing as it has reset itself.
I hope this helps!
Drop was:
Edge of Oppression
Binds when picked up
One-Hand - Dagger
79-148 Damage - Speed 1.30
(87.3 damage per second)
+25 Stamina
Requires Level 70
Equip: Increases haste rating by 17
Equip: Increases attack power by 36
Kyuushuu of Gnomeregan

This boss is probably the hardest boss in this instance. This is what we did:
Have a Mage (me), Hunter, Rogue, Holy Priest, and a Warrior Tank.
This is what we did, attempt this about 20 times repair with lots of gold and pull out all your stops at the end.
We had the hunter respect his pet for max stam and arcane resist. We sent in the pet first and let him take the adds why the rest of us were on the boss. Once he died the rogue took over and started on the adds and once he got 3-4 adds on him he popped Clock of Shadows and this is where the Mage comes in. I Ice Lanced the adds collected about 4-5 I popped my POM, Trinket and Arcane Power. I was able to crit him for a little over 10,000 due to the Debuff effect and then Ice Block out of the Debuff. This took him down to 5% and i stayed Ice Blocked through the Overload the Boss does that seams to wipe everyone. This time it didn't and we were able to finish him off.
This fight is a huge strat oriented fight and Lots of luck. I know not all groups are going to be compiled this way. We just happened to get lucky. Good Luck

Did this guy on Herioc the other day definately the hardest boss in Herioc MGT only strat that worked for us was assign one person to kill the adds until they spawned to fast then switched all DPS to the boss and hope you don't die to the overload.
Don't forget he's auto attacks are actually arcane (Sort of like how the first boss of Mana-Tombs is all shadow) so resist gear could help, a Druid doesn't really need to be in bearform to Tank, since armor means nothing for this fight, so tell him to just tank it in cat to help with DPS.

I tanked this thing in my Pathaleon/arcane resist gear (205 arcane resist) and was the last one to die three times in a row before I finally dropped group...and this was on regular mode with geared out epic toons.
I told the group to down the adds and then dps (rotating add kills due to the stacking debuff), but around 30% the dps needs to go really slowly so that the debuff is gone and everyone is at full health when he hits 20% and overloads. They had a hard time doing this.
Remember people, full dps isn't always the right answer to boss fights. Sometimes you need to worry more about surviving than killing.
To me, this fight is a mixture of Darkweaver Syth from Heroic Sethekk Halls and the Curator. Know when to dps, when to kill adds, and when to pause to make sure everyone is healed to full.

This fight is hard even on normal. We just managed to do it on normal and i had to get my arcane resist gear for that. 244 arcane resist i had and to be honest, he could not hurt me at all as the tank. I even had some bit of a aggro problem since i generated so little rage! Big difference from before i put my arcane gear on!
With that resist, the healer could keep us all to full and at the last 17000hp, we could burn him down.
We had a prot warrior(me) in arcane resist gear, 2 hunters, a holy priest and a warlock.
The hunters and lock were on the adds so i just concentrated on keeping the big guy at the same place.

This Fight gave me a little trouble the first 4 tries as a healer. We finally decided to try splitting the add duty. The group consisted of 2 hunters, prot warrior, fire mage, and Me(heal spec priest). The pets were never used in the fight. The mage was Boss Dps the whole fight while the hunter traded add duty. We ended with one casualty because the hunter that had the last add was still debuffed durring the boss AOE. Hope this helped.

He releases his energy balls at intervals every time he takes 15% damage or so. His debuff gives the attacker 50% extra damage. Possibly need to slow down the dps so that you can clear the buff before the next energy balls are released. I would say that whoever has the damage buff needs to STOP attacking instead of attacking more.... any thoughts?

Heroic mode: This boss is really hard. We had a solid group of Pally tank (me), pally healer, hunter, elemental shaman, and a warlock. We ran into the problem where we would kill him to fast and the pure energy would come out to fast and kill us. The method we used to beat him was this: I tank him pally healing me very slow dps to 85%, stop dps, warlock takes down pure energy, than goes to drain life. We had our elemental shaman healing the warlock. The hunter sat in back and was danceing or sleeping till 25% where we burned him down. This guy doesnt have much hp. You just have to take ur time.

first off, I've downed this boss in heroic version for 3 times now as a pally healer.
I had the same problem with groups trying to go all out dps. we wiped consistantly at under 5%... until we decided to take our time.
the last run, I ran it with me(holy pally), ret pally, prot pally, fire mage and affliction lock.
2 shotted him. 1st try the mage died too fast to the big burst. 2nd time, we had ret pally on the adds first, then bubble the debuff and the mage take the 2nd round, then IB out.
it's pretty smooth doing that way. But I recommend everyone in the group to have high stam gear. survivability > dmg in this fight.
and as a pally healer, you have to be on top of your burst healing, and mana control. you will need pots in this fight. I personally potted once. don't hesitate to use holy light.

Two quick comments, having just tanked him on Heroic a couple of times
(1) Shadow priests are a good choice for taking (one of) the debuffs, because they can drop VE and, with the debuff, end up healing the whole group in the order of 400health/second or more (they can take down the one of the adds each wave with Shadow Word: Death)
(2) As a druid tank with a paladin healer, I simply hit barkskin / tranquility when he did the Overload, kept the group alive nicely.

I lead a group into heroic Magister's Terrace everyday and after wiping about 15 times on our first, this is the final tactic e use on Vexallus:
Mage uses Ice lance on adds and kills them whenever they appear (seems to be every 15%) we dps the boss until it's at 70%, then dps stops until the debuff goes, whilst the tank (me) keeps on tanking. Once debuff goes dps starts again to 40%. Once debuff goes, we dps to 10%, then burst dps to take him from 10 to 0 hp.
Been using this tactic the passed 6 runs and it's working fine =)

This is what I found to be the most effective strategy on HEROIC after countless times fighting this guy:
First off this is suppossed to be a long, easy fight. Your going to want to do MINIMUM dps until about 30% when he starts the arcane explosion or whatever its called. The less dps you do the less adds he spawns. What we did is let the tank take him by himself pretty much down to 45% and just threw in a few ranged every now and then. This actually FORCES the adds to spawn one at a time beginning when Vellaxus hits 85%. And you will notice that they spawn ALOT less. Also if you have a warlock in your group have him/her use their voidwalker to take the adds. The voidwalker will absorb the debuff then the warlock can sacrifice him for the bubble then resummon and repeat:-). Also the hunter pet work's nice and the mage/ice block strat as well. But I found the Warlock/VW most useful as no party members take dmg from the debuff and the bubble actually protects the lock a little bit. When Vellaxus is down to about 30% or so he will start an Arcane explosion which does massive dmg to all party members so at this point you really want to max out dps to take him down quick. All in all the fight should last about 7-10 minutes. Keep in mind some groups are able to all out dps the entire time and still take him down, but this strategy is the easiest and most repair friendly;). Anyway I really hope this helps you out so you dont have to wipe ten times on this guy because believe me I know the frustration.

2 best ways to kill him in heroic is 1. have hunters pet kill adds , and then hunter res pet and do it again ,2. have the lock put the life draining thingy on the boss and have the lock take all adds ( locks spell dmg is going up so his health gained per tick is also ) o and for both make sure ur healer understands they have to heal , this seems to b a issue with healers they think they can dps in fights

correction to my previous post as it may have been confusing to those with only a gradeschool education...the adds still spawn when u minimize dps...they just come out one at a time instead of two at a time...use voidwalker to kill them in one hit then sacrifice and resummon or health funnel him through it...it works...if they still come two at a time your doing too much dps...have ur casters wand every few secs or keep a dot or two on him now and then but it is important not to over dps...hope this is easier to understand:)

Having run MgT several times now, I've never had a problem on Vex, heroic or regular. Prot warrior, heroic geared, 0 arcane resists. If your healer is good, there's absolutely no reason to have your dps go and steal the adds, the tank can easily handle the debuff, and the additional damage means you won't lose agro. It stacks up quite nicely, and your healer doesn't have the headache of dealing with dps dying mid-fight. Try it some time, you won't be disappointed!

There s a bug to the vexallus fight. Just before the vexallus platform at casting range to vexallus, there are 2 lamps on the right n left side of the aisle. If the ranged dps stand wedged inside these lamps and kill the adds they do not get the debuff from the adds, mind you overload will still hit you. But no debuff from adds helps a lot. You should be in range of boss and be able to attack him when u are wedged in the lamps and the wall.
Just to add, in the SS given on top
http://i.www.wowhead.com/tbc/search?q=s/o/55345.jpg
you see the 2 lamps on the left n right.
Secondly done this fight a number of times as pally healer and its useful to kings all your dps and bubble at 15% and spam HL.
Hope this helps.

This is pretty easy when you know the trick.
A good thing would be to have 2 ranged DPS to take care of adds. One could do the job, but best with 2.
There are 6 candles inside the room. 3 on each side. 2 of them is right beside Vexallus, 2 is a little longer away from him (Around 30 yards away from him), and the last 2 is very long from him.
Let the ranged DPS stand VERY close to a candle each. Actually have them stand inside the candle. They have to stand between the candle and the wall. They need to be so close they actually allmost get stuck between the wall and the candle. The ranged DPS should NOT MOVE AT ALL during this fight.
When this is done, start pulling Vexallus down to the stairs, otherwise the ranged DPS cant hit him. When adds spawn (at 85%, 70%, 55%, 40%, 25% and 10%), let the ranged DPS kill them (use instant spells as the adds deal 2000 damage every second to the whole party).
If this is done correctly, the debuff from the adds will show for about 1 sec, and then disappear. If this doesnt work, either the ranged DPSs arent standing close enough, or else they properly moved and then this trick wont work.
Turns out for some reason the candles disspells the debuff.
When doing this, the only thing you have to worry about is the tanks health and the Overload. But with a good healer, this is no problem.
Hope this helps you!

Ok, I've only run MT twice so far and haven't run it on Heroic, so I may be a bit off. It appears this guy is like some kind of mini Curator. He routinely spawns flares which use constant chain lightning and deal heavy dmg if they aren't killed quickly. They die fast and can be one-shotted by a mage or lock. You can tell when he summons one because there will be a raid warning saying 'Vexallus unleashes pure energy' or something like that. If you kill a flare, you take additional dmg, but also deal additional dmg, so you have to take turns killing his adds or you'll get overloaded and die. When he is low on hp, he just starts going aoe crazy, so party just needs to burn him down at that point.
