The trash on the way to Void Reaver is honestly harder than the boss itself. The arcane orbs, although meant to be avoided, are capable of being resisted; aside from their damage they can silence as well.

I don't think the trash before him is hard at all, but the boss isn't either. Just do a 4-tank rotation because of the knockback, make all melee dps move out of pounding when it occurs, and make ranged/casters move away from all the arcane orbs. gg no re. If it's your guilds first tries, try to bring as much ranged as possible, might make it easier for you. Good luck.

He is also immune to Siphon Life and Drain Life (warlock abilities). A loss of a DOT ability in this fight, since it requires mobility, is definitely an inconvenience but the fact that warlocks cannot Life Tap and Siphon Life + Drain Life is a bigger hurdle to get over. As long as you do not get hit by the orbs, you'll be fine.

One thing to remember, if (like my guild) you ignore the comment of "melee DPS must avoid pounding damage" (I.E. standing in the poundings and getting healed) you'll end up taking a TON of damage over the course of the fight. You can mitigate a huge portion of this damage with some arcane resist. Alot of the Melee DPS used their trinket from Kara (

) for all of their arcane resist and it reportedly prevented something the the realm of 40k damage.

You're all calling him easy, but with 4,500,000 health, doesn't he require pretty insane DPS to get down before the enrage timer?
4 tanks and 7 healers leaves room for 14 DPS'ers, means an average of 535 DPS per DPS'er - include some DPS from the tanks, and it may be as low as 500.
But that still doesn't scream walkover to me - what am I missing?

If you are only putting out 500ish DPS you need more DPS. Grul requires a minimum of 8500 sustained to get him down, once you have a group capable of that then you can do VR quite easily.
700-800dps is about standard for well geared players.

"Loot Reaver" is a reward mob for being able to get into the instance and clear the trash.
He is by far the most killed 25 man mob, and drops nice loot.

A shadow priest with 800 spell dmg (such as myself) can pump out over 500dps with their eyes closed, one hand tied behind their back and each third of the keyboard hotkeyed to SW:P, VT and MF. then just pound your head on the keyboard.

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned it yet, but you can reset him if it starts to look like a wipe. Just run out the door to his room and he will drop target, run back to his starting position, and be back at 100% health.
This is extremely convenient if one set of trash has already started to respawn.

If your having trouble dodging your orbs, pan your camera up and you can see them coming from his head.
Edit: Also, they do not change course, they target a person and go to where they are. If the person moves, the orb will not change course

It is possible - and preferable as you will get more dps - to let the melee stay for the pounding and have 2 healers heal only melee, and occasionally ranged. Ranged should be using HS/pots/Bandage and hold themselves up if they are hit by a orb(that should not happen a lot - 3-4 times in one fight is acceptable. NOT 3-4 on one person, but on raid overall). That will increase the DPS slightly as the melees will be able to dps the whole fight, instead of loosing 3-5k DPS(depends how many melees, we have 4-5) for the time they have to run out, wait for it to go away and run back in, and start hitting.

To help deal with the trash before VR, have your DPS warriors (you have those, right?) equip a shield and intervene your warlocks as you pull. Then they can go and dps.
This will help keep your warlocks alive - they are the most important element on those pulls, as nothing will wipe you faster than a loose demon spamming the raid with saw blades.

For ranged, I find it is much easier to dodge specific orbs by circle strafing than running in/out. Sometimes it can be hard to tell where it's landing(Close to him, far back, in the middle), but it's very easy to tell where it's not going(left/right). Saves you a lot of running, and you can up your DPS significantly this way. Can be helpful if you are having DPS troubles.

It is very nice to farm this boss once a week for the Tier 5 Shoulders.
He drops 2 per death.
Guilds should also be using the DKP system by now to avoid discomfort between players on who gets the Tier 5 Shoulders.

Prefer Ranged over Melee during this fight due to pound if melee can get out of some of the pounds its not so bad but its hard to heal if you have to much melee DPS so go for ranged more

Ok seriously, what the hell is with the aggro on the Crystalcore Devastators? We find they keep randomly charging the raid, one-shotting healers and CC'ers. What possible strategy can you employ to stop all of your heals getting one-shotted or worse all your warlocks getting smashed so you have saw blades spam the raid?

This is the second boss in Tempest Keep. You do not need to kill Al'ar to reach him.
Healing the melee and tanks on this fight is easy; Shamans Chain Heal and Priests' Circle of Healing will keep all dps up with ease, even during poundings.
Every so often, an orb will fly out and target a member of the raid that is not a short range of Void Reaver. These orbs explode in about a 10 yard radius, do 6000ish damage, and have a lengthy silence. Simply avoid these orbs by staying at max range and moving when your preferred Raiding Mod of choice warns you.
Void Reaver has a hard enrage at 10 minutes, meaning he will run around and 1 shot your raid.
This fight is generally considered on par with Gruuls, and is widely regarded as the easiest 25 man boss after Gruul's Lair.

It pains me a bit to say this(warrior) but Tankadins are more than recommended for this fight, sice they can land a consecration and keep generating threat while they get thrown, avoiding the aggro reset on him.
Also should be noted that he has a pretty big meele range, i would suggest that you look for that safe spot into the inner circle, where you can dps and avoid the pounding at the same time.

As of patch 2.3, the visuals for Arcane Orb are bugged - the explosion and damage will occur about a second before you actually see the Orb fall from the sky, so make sure you move away from the area of impact as early as possible.
A very straightforward fight but still good practice for your raid. You can choose to fix everyone's positioning before the pull, or instruct people to wing it and just spread out intelligently - I like the latter approach because I think it's good training for future fights. On VR, all ranged players are essentially going to stand at around their max range from VR or the tanks, forming a large ring with the boss in the center. As a raider you should get in the habit of scanning that ring -- looking for big gaps in it where no one else is standing -- and moving toward those areas in between your cooldowns or if you've just been targeted with an orb. If everyone in the raid can organically adjust their positioning like this, you'll have a strong advantage as you move into more complex fights down the line.

As a feral druid, I tank this EXTREMELY well. Only because I can build threat much faster than warrior and paladins. This fight is a DPS race and more threat usually means more DPS so feral druids shine with this guy. After about 20% I usually end up tanking him the rest of the time

Had our first post 2.4 VR encounter today, and found him
much
harder than he was pre 2.4. It appears his
Knock Away
ability will now reduce threat by a much greater factor, we regularily had healers and melee oneshotted by the boss late in the fight even though we had two warrior prot tanks, a protpally and a beardruid "fighting for aggro". One enhancement shaman even got aggro from VR even fairly soon after having been killed. The were also occations where the tanks were hit by Knock Away and could keep tanking. There has most certainly been made changes to him outside of any orb-related issues. Omen v66581 does not currently report threat correctly in this fight and is worthless.

as of patch 2.4, this fight has changed slightly.
There is no longer an automatic way to determine who void reaver is targeting when he launches his orbs. You have to watch manually for the orbs to see where they are headed, since VR no longer targets someone when he launches one, nor is there any note in the combat log or emote.
In my guild, the healers were running into trouble between watching our tanks and melee health and watching for orbs. Instead, we had the melee, tanks and healers all run into melee range together (along with our spriest due to limited range on mind flay) and take all the poundings while our ranged dps had significantly more room to spread out and dodge orbs.

My raid is in the same boat.
this sorta change frustrates me.
You walk into TK you sheep the trash you kill the skull.
You make it to a boss.
You fight Alar. you kill him twice he dies.
You fight the Astromancer, don't be a bombtard, she dies.
You fight Void Reaver, and EVERY single thing you know about the fight has changed.
The list of "Ninja" changes to this encounter seem numerous and for every change a equally difficult bug exist.
at one point i while tanking i looked up to trace the orbs as they flew to the group. to my horror i saw 3 orbs air born at a single time. as my group retreated to the saftey of the outer ring a sudden unexpected explosion rocked their would be safe zone. note thier was no orb to see impact the zone, I suspect a few things could be possible.
1. Since VR no longer faces and targets people for the Orbs, conflicting animations occur during the orb's release in turn firing a "invisible" orb. this same thing may also allow him to fire multiple orbs at a single point in time.
2. Void Reaver is somehow now firing orbs under the surface of the encounters room. ( I say this because at one point in time i saw partial detonation in a group of healers that would have indicated the source of the explosion was under the surface of the games terrain.
So what do we do?
Well unless you can some how man handle a group to dodge multiple unseen bombs i think the best way to defeat this encounter would be to head to the bug forums and point out the now multiple flaws in this encounter.

my second and probably most effective strategy would be to initiate a rotating raid group. and have the ranged DPS and healers to only stop when casting or DPSing. when not casting: run in a clockwise fashion winding up away from VR then back closer to him this seemed most effective in displacing the arcane orbs. however the enrage time became the issue after this.
I'm going to leave my email here for other raiders to message me with. I do this in hopes that a Raid leader in my similar position would be willing to discuss possible new tactics in order to defeat this recklessly "changed" encounter. Varia9@gmail.com

As of 2.4.1, the Arcane Orbs are bugged, not showing up in the combat log, he'snot turning around to fire them anymore (which was apparently done to fix a seperate bug) and in some cases, they're completely invisible. I'd leave off him until Blizz can fix this, especially as it broke 2 of the addons that made this fight cake.

As melee you can avoid the damage of Pounding by just pressing space. You have to be off the ground when it normally strikes you. We killed Void Reaver yesterday with my guild and i managed it to sometimes avoid all three Pounding strikes.

Alternate Tactics:
If the ranged DPS/Healers are having issues with avoiding the orbs, especially since 2.4 now that the Combat Log no longer announces Arcane Orb, an alternate tactic is possible. We did this with 1 non-CoH Priest, 2 CoH Priests, 1 Resto Shaman, 2 Paladins and 1 Resto Druid, but it would've been easier with one more CoH-Priest or Resto Shaman. You also need at least 1, but preferebly 2, classes that have an easy time moving at range - we used 2 Hunters.
The basic idea is that everyone, except the Hunters, run to the middle and park themselves under Void Reaver. The Hunters will stay at range and proceed to avoid Orbs like normal, though not really caring much about their DPS. When the Pounding hits the group, all AoE healers take care of the group while the Paladins heal the tanks, tossing other people heals should it be needed. This makes the fight even simpler, assuming people make sure they move if a Tank gets knocked back and VR follows and that the Hunters/kiters don't get to close to melee, which will instantly lead to a wipe.
The pros of this method are quite obvious, DPS never has to move and can just continue nuking. Healers also don't risk going out of range of the tanks, which would be nasty. Cons are also obvious, everyone takes more damage (though not terribly hard to heal through, especially not if everyone brings their Violet Badge) and should an orb for any reason hit the raid it's pretty much an inevetible wipe.
We did this on our first kill, nobody was outgearing the encounter in any way (we killed Solarian the first time the day before, and Lurker downed three times).

A similar strategy is to zoom out farther than far. To increase the distance that you can zoom out, use the command
/console MaxCameraDistance x,
where x is a number between 1 and 50 (the default is 1).
Using this command (it was suggested in my raid that we use a value of 4), you can scroll out far enough that you can still see yourself and your surroundings, but you can also see the top of VR's head and can tell when there is an Arcane Orb headed in your direction.
After the fight, you can use the command again with x=1 to change the MaxCameraDistance variable to its default value.
Also, a note to resto druids doing this fight: the way our raid did this was to put one tree in the tank group and another tree in a melee group (in such a way that no group buffs would be sacrificed). Both trees stood under VR with the melee and resto shammies and healed from there. Pounding damage is easily healed up during Pounding cooldown. Just roll Lifebloom on the active tank and spam Lifebloom for raid heals in between refreshes.
In my raid last night we all agreed that, while VR isn't the walk in the park that it used to be, this is probably how the devs wanted us to do the fight. It involved a little relearning, but it's still easy.

You most certainly do
not
need to do anything to avoid the damage from pounding. No resistance gear, no moving out (and risking having orbs hit the melee and tanks), nothing like that.
The key here is to have the melee healers (ideally a pair of restoration shamans) standing in with the melee under the boss. They'll take damage from the pounding and thus slightly increase the strain on healing, but since they will not have to move away from orbs they can spam heal for the whole fight without worrying about movement and silences. As long as they can keep their mana up (it's a long fight, so use mana pots early and often), you shouldn't have to worry about any meleers dying. In the case of shamans, they can also very easily keep melee totems up, along with searing totems for a free ~25k extra damage per shaman.
Try it. I can guarantee that you won't regret it.

No more loot reaver, i just fought him, without dbm or alarm working he is 100x harder. All healers and ranged dps now have to spend the whole time looking up and watching for orbs, so you will have to pay ALOT of attention to do this fight without dying. Now much harder than solarian, but still easy enough for near end-game.

Last night we tried as suggested above, we had two groups stand at his feet. Both groups consisted of 3 melee, 1 tree & 1 CoH priest. Both priest equiped their
Violet Badge
(average 560 resist poundings). While the first try we were mostly doing CoH & PoM, while the trees equipped
Idol of the Raven Goddess
.
On the second attempt (lost ranged and enraged on try one) we discovered that keeping a
Prayer of Healing
in the pipe allowed us mana regen time, excellent healing and only had to use CoH to top off.
Not having to dodge orbs and get silenced for 6 seconds was a much needed relief for this boss fight.

Commonly called "Loot Reaver" by some of the higher-tiered guilds, Void Reaver is considered one of the easiest bosses in the harder raid instances like Tempest Keep and Serpent Shrine Cavern. He could, however, still be quite a pain to down to raids unprepared to face his abilities.
He has four special abilities not counting his hard melee hits, which is very few considering how complex other encounters are. He, by the way, has no cleave.
Ability 1: Aggro knockback: He will periodically reduce the threat of his main target, very likely causing him to go after the player that's second in threat. To counter this, it is recommended to have three tanks on him fighting for aggro at all times, with clear communication to the raid healers as to which tank he is hitting. The dps, then, have to watch their aggro and use aggro reducing abilities at roughly 50-60%.
Ability 2: Pound: He will periodically start pounding the ground with very obvious visual effects. This will deal a decent amount of damage to all in melee range. The tanks should sit through the pound to keep up aggro, and the added damage helps with rage generation. The melee dps, however, have to dps him standing as far away as possible, and sidestep out of the pound when he starts it (healing melee dps through pound is not recommended, but doable).
Ability 3: Big glowing purple balls of death: He will, at a speed of about once per three seconds (imagine him being a machine gun), randomly target a ranged player. After a couple more seconds, he will then shoot a GIGANTIC purple glowing ball at that target. The ball travels slow, but has a splash radius of 15 yards, and will deal around 6k worth of damage to anyone that's hit along with a long silence effect. Everybody has to pay attention to who's being targeted, and take note of that person's position. That person, along with everyone near, have to move away from their spot to avoid the splash damage. Note that since this is happening really fast, you have to keep on your toes. Also, melee dps that's getting out of pound might be targeted, all melee should move accordingly if that happens. A mod of some sort that calls out the player targeted is very helpful this fight, especially for healers.
Ability 4: Hard enrage: 10 minutes after engaging, he will go into "uber" mode, decimating everything with a single punch. Since he has 4.75 million hp, it is a dps race, so be prepared to bring in your best dpsers.
This fight is as simple as tanks fighting aggro, melee moving out when pounding, and ranged moving away from huge balls of lightning. If everyone pays attention and gives all he/she has, you'll get some nice t5 shoulders :).

Melee: run out from ground pound. it happens every 13 sec for 3 sec
Ranged: VR will shoot arcane orbs at u and u should back out a couple of steps then go back in and start healing or whatever u class does :P
Tip: ranged might wanna spread apart for the orbs cuz they hurt alot
if ranged/melee do that, 2 peeps will have free T5 and someone will have a nice purple

yes and its so easy because all dps has to stay over 550 dps while moving all the time and the 45 minute+ trash allows only a couple of tries before reclearing on any $%^&ups. NO, its not a very hard boss but all 12 year olds trying to make it like the next attumen without even having been there fail.
sort the tank healing, have all your dps keep a high mark during quite alot of downtime and have at least 3 competent and very well geared tanks and its doable. this is harder in practice then in text tho

Pugs won't have a hope in hell.
Your ranged dps needs to be ready to move. Loosing just 2-3 people can mean you go over the enrage timer.
We've killed him when he's enraged, though we've also had him on 15k and wiped us.
1: Survive
2: Bring the least amount of melee as possible, though chances are your rogues/shammies will be top dps so make sure to bring them if they are.
3: Resto shamans arn't nessesary but they help a hell of alot.
4:Don't go over threat of any tanks.
(Our MT has been killed and then two off-tanks have lasted the rest of the fight because nobody else was over their threat.)

When my guild kills this guy, we leave melee dps dpsing him while he pounds, and we just have a dedicated healer on them. We have no problems and kill him easily 1st or 2nd try every week.

Highly recommended to use at least one or two druid tanks. The amount of threat they put out is insane so DPS can start that much sooner and go all out.
The last time I tanked him I got the knockback twice before he switched to the other druid tank. I feel bad for the warrior who helps us tank him because he rarely gets to tank.
Big stupid check on ranged. If you can't move away from the orb, then you certainly wont be good enough to move out of Alar's fire rings or Kael's fire rings (whatever they are called)
I'd love to see guilds that wipe on this attempt astromancer... "Hey why am I all glowy? Oh weeeeeee lets all fly in the air"

I agree with most of the comments above. If you can not down gruul before too many stacks of growth, you cannot kill Void Reaver with the 10 minuite enrage.
Like mentioned, this is probably one of the easiest, if not the easiest 25 man teir 5 boss. All he does is shoot orbs which are easy to dodge, sometimes he just doesnt like people and shoots 2-3 orbs to them at a time, gets annoying, but still easy. He does a pounding which is simply healed through. He also does a 10 minuite enrage which is the only thing preventing most guilds from killing him.... Yes it is perfectly normal to kill him with seconds to go until enrage!
Now that players dont need to kill Magtheridon for attunment, most guilds skip mag and go right to VR. Like our guild which at current progression can down lurker and VR, but not mag.
Anyways, do this and you can start farming some T5 shoulders :)

when u look at the picture reaver downed (scroll up) u see a shaman with all tidefury stuff. so he downed him when he wasnt all epic? does gear even matter anymore? anywasy gratz

Do I have to be attuned to "The Eye" in order to kill VR? Because my guild downs him once a week but I dont think any of them are Eye attuned and I dont think they've done any other bosses in there.

Sinse 2.4 VR no longer targets people for his arcane balls he just lets them go so you have to pay more attention.

1. 9k hp for each members at least and tanks at 14k unbuff.
2. members should have downed gruuls so they atleast know how voids like. 3.boss mod would be very helpful and teamspeak or ventrillo. 4.if your PuGing you need atleast to follow # 1_3 instructions and have ZA gear 50 % of ur group. 5.no atunement required. 6.(fight)would prefer rogues for cloack of shadows when dpsing and hunters for MD when VR goes naughty(chabging aggroes to the tanks randomally)when orbs just look at your group where are you positioned then run least 20 yards where were you when boss mod says your name and all people in that area you have 4seconds to run. 7. he is the only t5 that can be PuGed with experienced members and geared tank. -Dragonmaw Girllibog

Biggest trouble with our guild is rtards not being able to dodge orbs... staying still for that last second or so for a spell to cast is really not worth it. Longer you live = more dps and heals. Duh?

It is very very easy to avoid the flying orbs,
After playing your character for that long (till lvl 70), you should know where u got your hotkeys for dpsing.
Just scroll back your camera as far as u can and aim it into the air so u can see the voids comming straight away if they target u, just turn around and run away to wall, dont walk sideways, since there are teammates from u standing beside you but not behind !
When you moved 15 yards away from your previous position look to the air straight away again, since more can come to your next position.
Position your healers between your tanks, and use aoe heals, like chain heal or the aoe heal from priests (dunno how its named).
Bring in your best DPS, because after 10 minutes, he will get enraged and he will 1 hit everyone no matter what (got hit myself for 48k damage, (Mage)
Such an easy boss, just so much health...

Killed him yesterday while wearing 254 arcane resistancy; makes the fight from a melee DPS point of view super easy: I only took about 1k damage from a pounding. Make sure to not take too much resistancy since it will lower your DPS and you need enough raid DPS to take him down before the enrage. It is possible to do him without ANY arcane resistancy but it makes melee life and healing muuuuuch easier if you wear some (254 was a bit much maybe).

Why did they skip the first boss Al'ar? Is Void Reaver closer os something or what?

Void Reaver has been changed in patch 2.3; while still a straightforward fight, he is now somewhat more difficult because it's harder to see the Arcane Orbs which are lobbed at the raid. Be sure to use Deadly Boss Mods or a similar warning mod that will announce when an Orb is in coming.

Void Reaver is suprisingly straightforward given his position in the raid progression. He only has three abilities: Arcane Orbs, which move slowly and are easily avoided, Pounding, which affects tanks and melee DPS (who can run out to avoid it) and an aggro reducing knockback.
