You should always and always choose Barrel of Fish, as it has some chance of containing Furious Crawdad(best tanking food, worth nice gold too)! Crate of Meat on the other hand will never contain any.

The answer to whether or not you should choose this over the crate of meat is an answer everyone should be familiar with at this point: it depends on what you want to do.

Either way you go, I don't think anyone can criticize you. If you aren't making food for yourself, I'd still be willing to bet there's someone in your raid who wouldn't be offended by a holy priest offering them a +20 hit rating Spicy Hot Talbuk. Or a rogue offering a +44 healing fishstick.

as good as the crate of meat is i always choose the barrel of fish, for 2 reasons
1) it almost always contains fish that i'm able to cook to give me stam buffs(i'm a raiding tank), or fish that i'm able to make golden fish sticks out of and make a pretty penny off of in the AH
2) i'm dont have the fishing profession and it's an easy way of getting fish, as meat is very easily accessable by 5 mins of grinding in the right area.

Ok. In this I got - 8 barbed gill trout, 5 spotted feltail, 2 enormous barbed gill trout, 1 huge spotted feltail, 1 fisherman knife(vendor trash), and a recipe for broiled bloodfin.

This is the 2nd time I've done this quest and I thought this was a good haul. lol

Barrel of Fish along with Crate of Meat are rewards from level 70 daily quests given by The Rokk.

I can't find the Rokk's quests in Thottbot's database yet. (Manalicious and Soup for the Soul are the two that I have been given.)

The drop rate's isnt actually the chance of getting a fish each time. If you get Golden Darter by example, you get 4x or none fish. Its more like 30-35% chance of getting them(not 142%)

On another note, I've gotten many nice recipes from these quests, so dont skip em cause of the "barrel of fish" reward. :)

When you already have the recipe that is only found in the carte of meat, the barrel of fish is probably the best one to pick every day.
Why ? Because you're garanteed to have fish that you find almost only in schools, and even a chance of rare fish (enormous trout, crawdad, huge spotted feltail, that will all lead you to 375 cooking), when there is nothing alike in the crate of meat.

What's a reasonable droprate for the skullfish soup compared to the other recipes? I got the other 5 (including 2 blues) in 6 days, of which 4 from crate of meat. But the skullfish one just won't drop.

The barrel of fish provides cooking mats useful for tanks, healers, and agility users.

The crate of meat provides cooking mats useful to agility users, spellcasters, hunter pet food, physical dps hit users, and mats that can be used for later cooking quests.

In deciding which to pick, also consider your alternative ways to hunt these mats. The crate of meat mats can be farmed from beasts, which if you have a skinner can also be farmed for skins at the same time. It can be quite a pain in the rear to obtain some of the fish, such as the furious crawdad.
