Comparing to Cowl of the Grand Engineer from Void Reaver nets marginal stat shifts, 1.19% more hit, -.5%crit, and trades a yellow socket for a red one. Very, very good for any caster - definitely beats Tier 4, Spellstrike, and is about on par with Tier 5 for casters who aren't dependent on meta gems or have the 4-set bonuses.

The only minus from all the Head items like this one from Zul'Aman is that there aren't any Meta socket's.But a really nice upgrade to T5 mage headpiece especially with the +31 hit rating.

It's a shame that graphics for this are just a warlock D3 recolor, identic to Uni-mind headdress, though better choice than arcanist model.

It has better stats than Spellstrike Hood, so if u are going to break spellstrike set this hat will be a good choice.

If you're debating between this and the Spellstrike Hood, I think the question becomes: Where is your guild progression? If you're still working your way through Kara and can't reliably get the Prince down, then I would recommend popping for the Spellstrike. My guild has gotten Kara down to a 2-night clear, but we spent tonight wiping on the "gear check" boss, Nalorakk.

If you can one-shot or two-shot Nalorakk, then I would say wait for this hood. However, if you already have the Spellstrike mats lying around, go for that.

This helm is definately worth dropping Spellstrike for, and certainly blows the warlock T5 helm out of the water.

The only downside to it so far is that it is skinned exactly like Uni-Mind Headdress, although it is being reskinned along with some of the other drops (Halazzi's robe, Studious Wraps, etc). Will be red and looks a lot like the rogue T6 helm

If you do the numbers and depending on your gear, this is potentially best warlock helm in game, even better than the Cowl of the Illidari High Lord and the Hood of the Malefic.

Hood of Hexing > Cowl of the Illidari High Lord > Hood of the Malefic

since lacking a meta slot, this is poor compared to t5 helm for destro warlocks.
the chaotic skyfire diamond makes a huge difference in terms of dps.

i currently have both and made some calculations to decide which one to wear, results are as follows:

with 30% SB crit chance, if i choose it over corruptor, i lose:
78.67 crit rating
but gain
31 spell hit rating, red socket, yellow socket, 1 dmg

and i believe what i lose > what i gain.

If you're a shadow priest and not sure if you should stack spell damage gems or go for the socket bonus, here's a breakdown of gains and losses:

3 x Runed Crimson Spinel: +36 Damage

or

1 x Runed Crimson Spinel: +12 Damage
1 x Reckless Pyrestone: +5 Spell Haste/+6 Spell Damage
1 x Glowing Shadowsong Amethyst: +6 Spell Damage/+7 Stamina

Using the three above gems, you will gain the socket bonus of +5 Spell Damage, for a total of +29 Spell Damage, +5 Spell Haste and +7 stamina.

If you have 1400 spell damage or higher, you can consider the +5 Spell Haste rating as +5 "Pseudo-damage" for a theoretical total of 34 vs. 36 spell damage.

As you can see, for Shadow Priests, it's a relative close choice as to how you may want to socket this particular item, but if you're trying to stack haste (or if you're >1600 spell damage) or could benefit from 7 stamina, you might be interested in the socket bonus.

Hood of Absolution - Archimonde, Hyjal
-- 62+17/5.57(3.05)+39*0.055(2.15)+27*0.11(2.97)+12+14.75=96.92/107.39(2piece)/115.88(2+4piece)

Hood of Hexing - Hex Lord Malacrass, Zul'Aman
-- 56+24/5.57(4.31)+33*0.055(2.05)+36=98.13 + 31 Hit(42.28)=140.41

Cowl of the Illidari High Lord - Illidan Stormrage, Black Temple
-- 64+47/5.57(8.44)+31*0.055(1.71)+12+14.751=100.9 + 21 Hit(28.64)=129.54

Summary: Hood of hexing beats both t6 helm and cowl if you are not hit-capped ( or need / want hit ) t6 helm pulls farther ahead if you get the 2 or 4 set bonus and are hit capped.

This is an excellent upgrade for shadowpriests using spellstrike, t4, t5, cowl of the grand engineer and even the 2nd tier engineering goggles if you prefer hit. You will use it well into hyjal / bt.

This helm is currently glitched for Undead with long-ish hair, where the hair sticks through the helm instead of being tucked away out of view. Screenshot included. I have not been able to find a similar glitch for any Alliance character with this Hood. So don't loot this expecting a cure for bedhead. ;)

Got it the other day, rolled againest 3 other casters and won the roll with a 89, Took about 7 full runs before we even saw it drop (the run I got it)

Great helmet, slightly better than the Cowl of the grand engineer (less crit more hit, better sockets) and the engineering Destruction Holo-gogs (in terms of PvE).

It got a new model in 2.3.2. It's kinda hard to describe. It's pretty neat looking except some hair models stick way out through it. If I'm feeling less lazy later I'll upload a pic.

Anyway, it's an awesome head piece, arguably one of the best headpieces for some classes/specs in game.

yeah they changed the graphic of it. kinda looks like a Dracula's cape collar. Its blood red and has a skull underneath the players head. Kinda looks a little like the rogue T6, but more trollish like

Yes I'm aware that that graphic is out of date, once the patch came out I submitted a new one. It's how it looked before they changed it. It now looks like another neck brace piece with bones sticking out of it and a skull under the neck. Also it has a slight yellow glow to it.
