Welcome to Wowhead's Elemental Shaman DPS Attributes and Stats TBC Guide, updated for of Burning Crusade Classic. In this guide, we will explain what Attributes do for their character, what Secondary Stats are, as well as what things to prioritize for your character when comparing Gear, either while leveling or during The Burning Crusade Classic end game content.

Stat Priority for Elemental Shaman DPS in Burning Crusade
Due to the way stats interact and multiply with each other, it is usually a bad idea to blindly follow a stat priority list, and you should try to get the best overall quality gear possible, which we list in the best in slot section. Elemental

s in particular, have a very easy time hitting the Spell Hit cap due to

and 9% Spell Hit from talents, which makes Spell Hit gear be generally less valuable.
Spell Hit (16% cap against bosses, reduced to 4% for Elemental in most scenarios)

Fight duration has an impact on your Mana-related stat weights. In general, the longer a fight goes, the more valuable Mp5 is relative to Intellect, but Intellect has other benefits, including granting some Mp5 itself from the

There is also a huge amount of nuance that is lost with the simplified priority listed above.
The real value of stats fluctuates with multiple factors that will be different for every player: the
speed of your kills
, the
budget of the gear you have available
(generally
more stats
is better than having
more of a "better" stat
), the relative
power of the gear that is available each tier
, and so on.
In order to get the exact weights for
your character
, use a simulation tool such as
wowsims for Elemental Shaman.
Spirit is the only stat that is truly not much good at all for

due to the lack of in-combat regeneration mechanics, with the value of all other stats fluctuating depending on the fight, your other stats and your general gear level.

For a Level 70

You will also get some Mp5 out of your Intellect through

, which increases the value of Intellect. Because of its flat value, Intellect has more value the shorter a fight is, in direct opposition to Mp5 which is alright for long fights, bad for short ones.
Stamina
For a Level 70

1 Stamina = 10 Health
While often maligned, TBCC has a lot of heavy raid damage fights, and the Heroic dungeons have multiple high damage / stunning abilities that will test your Stamina pool heavily, such as

. And dead healers do 0 healing and likely lead to a group wipe, so make sure to keep your Stamina high while looking for the other stats!
Spirit
For a Level 70

Total Spirit / 5 + 17 = Mana Gained per 2 seconds while out of 5 second rule
The first thing to understand about Spirit is that it only has any effect once you have not casted anything that costs Mana for 5 seconds, upon which it will increase the Mana you naturally regenerate every 2 seconds. Since

s do not have any way to circumvent this rule and constantly casting is required to deal as much damage as possible, the value we gain from Spirit is minimal.

Spell Hit is capped at 99%. There is always at least 1% chance for a Spell to Resist, no matter what. Because Bosses are "Skull" Level Monsters, they are treated as Level 63 Monsters when calculating Spell Resist Chance. This means you would need
16% Spell Hit
from Talents and Gear to ensure the minimum 1% resistance rate. While this is usually a lofty goal, Elemental

reducing the Spell Hit required from gear to a mere 4%!
Also, keep in mind that heals cannot miss, and you only need 3% Spell Hit to cap out in PvP, as shown in the table.
Spell Damage
Spell Damage increases the damage done by your spells. Not all spells get affected equally, with spells that are instant cast or have fast cast times gaining less benefit than the long cast

Spell Critical Strike
For a Level 70

22.08 Spell Critical Strike Rating = 1% Spell Critical Strike
Whenever you crit, your spells will deal 200% damage due to

, and Elemental

s will also get a major Mana discount due to

. This means crit doubles as a major throughput and Mana sustain engine, and is a great stat to have, although it does not have the best scaling across tiers, as gear power increases.
Spell Haste
For a Level 70

15.76 Spell Haste Rating = 1% Spell Haste
This stat makes your casts finish faster and also accelerates the global cooldown, allowing you to get more casts off in the same amount of time a Shaman without any Haste could.
There is a soft cap on how far Haste can take you, as the global cooldown will not go down any further than 1 second. Fortunately, because our casts are generally very long, outside of

you will never hit the soft cap, and only during the

effect, making this a strong stat for Shamans, as long as your Mana can sustain the extra casts.
Spell Penetration
Spell Penetration (read as "Decreases the magical resistances of your spell targets" as shown on

), allows you to
deal more damage
to enemies with Nature Resistance by lowering their resistance by the stated amount. Unfortunately, it is mostly a PvP stat, as most, if not all, enemies and bosses only have up to 24 resistance due to their level being up to 3 levels above the player, and that resistance cannot be lowered by the Spell Penetration stat.
Mp5
Each point of Mp5 regenerates one point of Mana after 5 seconds have passed, even if you are constantly casting. This allows the stat to consistently contribute to your Mana regeneration, unlike Spirit, and it is the Mana regeneration stat of choice for

s. Its exact value depends on a fight's length: the longer the fight, the more value Mp5 will have.
Considering modern day knowledge of TBCC classes and mechanics, fights will tend to be on the short side, devaluing Mp5 somewhat, and Elemental has other, superior ways to regenerate Mana, regardless, making this a useful, but not terribly much, stat.
Gearing Advice for Elemental Shaman DPS in Burning Crusade
Ultimately, you should aim to have as much of every Primary and Secondary stat, as well as Stamina as possible in your gear, contributing towards both your throughput and Mana sustainability.
