I <3 Ice Barrier.

It may not be clear, but unlike Mana Shield this absorbs all incoming damage, except fall damage, including physical, spell and range.

Ice Barrier has now Been updated and now can absorb Spell damage which now makes just like the priests Bubble.

It is also worthwhile to note that Ice Barrier will, in fact stack with Mana Shield. When stacked, Ice Barrier will absorb damage first, Mana Shield following. This means a mage can get potentially ~738 Damage Mitigation not counting +Frost equipment, just at level 40 when this spell is obtained.

In addition, 10% of all bonus frost spell damage will add to the amount Ice Barrier shields for. Therefore a lv40 with say, 100 frost spell damage will actually shield 448 dmg with Ice Barrier instead of 438.

so.. players can do almost twice as much damage now, and ice barrier only absorbs about 400 more damage, despite the low spellpower bonus of course.. hmm... from 70-80 the scaling was 3 times this. Ice Barrier is now useless if nothing but use as a frost nova, as it absorbs about half of any critical strike.

Ice Barrier has a sweet buff in 4.1.0. It's base absorb at 85 has gone up to 8069, from 3687. Also, the coefficient has gone up slightly, from 80.7% of spell power to 87% of spell power. This buff definitely makes this spell provide a real survivability barrier.

It's worth noting that the duration of the buff is twice its cooldown. That means you can cast it, wait for its cooldown to reset and then enter the fight and have it trigger again as normal. Since each barrier absorbs about 1/2 your health, you can essentially double your health if you plan ahead.

Doing old heroics and raids for achievements as a mage? Take this baby and run about with impunity. With the ability to prevent knockback on spell casts, and the absolutely massive amount of absorption, there's not many bosses you'll have to worry about once you pop this thing. Once you reach Cata levels, yeah, it loses effectiveness, but in WotLK and down it's absolutely amazing for soloing.

According to the legion tooltips, the absorb from increased from 4.95*SP to 11.5*SP
This number is still changing, yesterday it was 10*SP

If you take the Shield of Alodi or Force Barrier traits in the Frost/Arcane artifacts it doubles to 23*SP
If you take the artifact relics to increase these traits it becomes triple to 34.5*SP

A ilvl 710 Mage has about 7250 spell power, creating a nice 250k absorb, which is like 2/3 of your max hp. . . every 25 seconds.

I really hope we get a glyph or tome to change this spell's appearance. As a fire mage, I look ridiculous surrounded by ice all the time. I'm removing it from my bars until we get something that looks spec-appropriate.

Its on the same global cooldown as frostbolt so you cant cast both at the same time.

It seem this spell can no longer critical. I have watched the absorption amount and even with a 34% critical chance it never goes over the amount stated on the tooltip.
