The 'In the Halls of Titans' questline in World of Warcraft's Dragonflight expansion offers an exciting opportunity for players to learn more about the game's lore. This quest, which becomes available at Renown 24 with the Dragonscale Expedition faction, takes players into a titan facility created by Keeper Tyr. There, players will discover research on the Dragon Aspects and the elemental powers of the original proto-drakes. We go through this lore-rich questline below.
In the Halls of Titans
The first part of the questline,
Что скрывают титаны
, unlocks at Renown 13 with the Dragonscale Expedition. The expedition has discovered a mysterious sealed titan door, and players help figure out how to open it. We discover the door requires three stones of Tyr, and once we've retrieved them, we leave the Expedition to work on opening the door.
At Renown 24, the Dragonscale Expedition once again summons the player to let us know they can finally open the door. The questline
В залах титанов
begins.
Security Console says: WELCOME, TYR... HAS BEEN ... SINCE THE LAST VISIT. RESUMING ACTIVE PROTOCOLS... STAND BY... STAND BY...
Security Console says: STATUS... HALL OF SAMPLES... COMPROMISED... ASPECTS DATABASE: DATA EXPIRED... PRIME RECORDS... INTACT.
Hall of Samples
We enter the Hall of Samples to discover the samples seem to be primal proto-dragons, some of which have escaped their containment.
We lure the dragons back to its containment sphere, and each time, a hologram of Tyr appears with a recorded observation about that dragon. Clear, Tyr studied the proto-drakes for some time. Based on his notes, it seems likely it was the earth proto-drake who first broke its containment.
Air:
Hologram Tyr says: Infused with the element of air, this dragon has gained the ability to express gusts of wind from its body, resulting in an effective, if rudimentary, deterrent for nearby foes.
Hologram Tyr says: The fact that this does not result in an equal, but opposing force applied to the dragon implies the process is innately magical as opposed to mechanical.
Fire:
Hologram Tyr says: The element of fire has seen one of the most successful adoption rates of the species, with subjects able to hurl globes of fire hot enough to melt metal.
Hologram Tyr says: Additionally, those infused with fire are responsible for more attempted outbreaks than the other proto-dragons combined.
Ice:
Hologram Tyr says: Infused with the element of water, this proto-dragon has lost its fire breathing capabilities and gained an equally lethal ability in its stead--the frozen possibilities of ice.
Hologram Tyr says: The fact that a proto-dragon's complete inversion of their elemental tendency is not only possible, but so thorough, generates an intriguing thought exercise.
Hologram Tyr says: Is there any element--or even energy--that, given appropriate conduit, vessel, and time, proto-dragons are unable to integrate?
Earth:
Hologram Tyr says: This proto-dragon has been imbued with the element of earth. It exhibits an increase in scale density with a minor reduction in flexibility compared to baseline proto-dragons.
Hologram Tyr says: Three separate incidents have been recorded where the dragon has nearly breached the containment sphere.
Hall of the Aspects
Inside the Hall of the Aspects, we find holograms of each of the original Dragon Aspects: Nozdormu, The Timeless One, Alexstrasza the Life-Binder, Queen of the Dragons, Ysera, the Awakened, Malygos, Steward of Magic, and Neltharion, the Earth Warder.
We assist Toddy as she examines the consoles one by one.
Nozdormu:
Toddy Whiskers says: I can't make heads or tails of these records. They're as convoluted as those time travelin' bronze dragons!
Alexstrasza:
Interesting--Alexstrasza and Ysera were clutchmates! They had a brother, but... it seems he fell some time before the Aspects were created.
Ysera:
Looks like Ysera was always the gentle one. Says here she thought peace could be made with the undead. Odd... none of our history mentions the dragons fightin' undead.
Malygos:
It says here that before Malygos became an Aspect, he almost succumbed to undeath! That doesn't make any sense--what undeath are they talking about?
Neltharion:
Huh! Neltharion used to be one of Alexstrasza's closest friends and confidants. ...it must have broken her heart tae see him fall tae madness.
Hall of Records
Finally, we turn our attention to the Hall of Records. Using keys of Vigilance, Burden, and Judgment to complete simple puzzles, we are able to unlock the hall's Titan Consoles, retrieving three
Диск титанов
s.
As we grab the third disc, the entire Titan facility begins to collapse, and we have to flee, but not without our prize. The Dragonscale Expedition now owns three important records that seem to be from Keeper Tyr himself!
Naleidea Rivergleam says: From what we can tell, these discs are rich in information--
Toddy Whiskers says: -but not in answers.
Naleidea Rivergleam says: Tyr was cataloging the lifecycle and overall potency of the various proto-dragon phenotypes in the Dragon Isles, although for what purpose we're uncertain.
Naleidea Rivergleam says: In addition, he was keeping a considerable database on the role, disposition, and relative power of the Aspects.
Naleidea Rivergleam says: Tyr's interest in the Aspects seems logical, but the proto-dragons, somewhat less so.
Naleidea Rivergleam says: But the fact that he went to such lengths to keep this facility and its contents a secret--
Toddy Whiskers says: That's the real mystery.
References to Dawn of the Aspects
One fun thing about this questline is that it's allowing the players to help NPCs discover lore that we already know about but they don't. The fact that Alexstrasza and Ysera were clutchmates whose brother was lost before they became Aspects is news to the Dragonscale Expedition, but not to anyone who's read the novel
Dawn of the Aspects
.
Especially interesting is Toddy's visible confusion at any mention of undeath. We know that Galakrond, infused with lifespring water that had become corrupted by the Old Gods, grew to an enormous size feasting on his fellow proto-dragons, who then rose as undead bound to his will. Officially, the Aspects have kept this history a secret out of fear that other dragons might also attempt cannibalism, stating only that Galakrond was the progenitor of Dragonkind. This would explain why the Dragonscale Expedition seems ignorant of this part of history.
With the release of Iridikron and his fellow Primal Incarnates at the end of the Vault of the Incarnates raid, Tyr's research into the powers of elemental proto-drakes seems like it could become relevant very soon. For now, the story pauses here, leaving us and the Dragonscale Expedition - hopefully - with a deeper understanding of the history and lore of the Warcraft universe.
