The journal drops off random oozes in the Pools of Aggonar (39,39).

The journal did not drop for me it was inside a brown bag hanging in a tree at 40, 37. I will post a screenshot of the satchel.

While heading to tree cords listed about I had to kill a few ooze in my way. The journal dropped from the second one.

I still went for the bag on the tree and it had the following in it.

They are both Grey but tooltip still says "Quest Item"

I could not find it in the tree on the esat bank at those coords - but go to the middle of stream directly west of that tree is a stump where I found the bag with the journal.

I ran around thinking it was on the edge like the poster above me, but as they note, it is not on the edge of the place, it's in the middle, hanging from a stump, next to a dead blood elf's corpse. Hope that helps.

My Gad, please do not go around killing the dumb green oozes. Yes the bag is on a tree located at 40,37. There is a dead BE beside it.

If the journal isn't in the bag come back l8er. :).... EDIT: there is no way in hell it dropped off a little ooze

A note when fighting the oozes here. Their AOE poison attack has a very short range, so you can easily take about 5 paces back when they start casting it and avoid it.

Mobs are cake. Terrorfiends are primarily melee with a strong single semi-instant cast from their stomachs and the Blistering Ooze are slow and stop periodically to 'burst' and send an AOE burst (oozlings can be one shot for the most part)

While in the area do these two quests as well.

Be slightly careful on this one. I read the comments and saw the bag on the tree, next to the corpse. The cog came on on my mouse pointer and I looted the bag and then shot back to turn in the quest and couldn't understand why it wouldn't let me do it. I looked through my bags and found that I had looted a knapsack with some worthless stuff in it. Had auto-loot on and never checked!
Had to go back and kill loads of slimes. The journal dropped from one of the small oozlings rather than the big one so check them all!

This dropped for me on and ooze, being a rogue i like to stealth, so i came on wowhead, read all the comments, found the bag, waited for some mobs to pat away but i got impatient so i started to clear. BAM! first kill i get the journal. hope every1 has the same luck.

The tree it may or may not be hanging from is about halfway up the pools of Aggonar, in the middle of the pool (basically dead centre of the whole area). Just keep your eyes peeled for the corpse of a Blood Elf.

Also, this is my first wowhead post. Grats to me!

well, I got the journal, while I was reading comments for this quest from LightHeaded...
I had just finished killing the Terrorfiends, and then a couple of Oozes attacked, me.
Killed them, got the diary while I was reading about people grinding for hours! :D
took me less than 2 minutes! :P

I have the Journal, but the guy you are supposed to turn it in to is gone?
Is this ANOTHER bug, or am I missing something?
PS I realize this ia necro, but I am confused here as to whether I need to abandon the quest and get it again for it to work!

Magistrix Carinda at Falcon Watch in Hellfire Peninsula wants you to go to the Pools of Aggonar and retrieve Arelion's Journal.

Description

My husband, Arelion, had been fascinated with the Pools of Aggonar ever since we arrived in Outland. He spent much of his time studying slimes, of all things!

He went missing in there a few days ago. They say he's dead and there's nothing I can do about it.

One thing I can do is try to ensure that his research doesn't die with him. Go northeast to the pools and look for his journal. He always carried it inside a brown knapsack.
