This is actually a bit of a tough quest for a starting character. After placing the crystal, quite a few shades appear and attack the crystal. With a young priest character I have not been able to kill all shades, but it's not actually needed to slay them. You can kite them until a minute is up and you get the "completed" message. Then just run away and turn in the quest.

one min is nothing. waited until all four had spawned. and just ran into their aggrorange when they got close to the gem.
then i just ran away, and when they deaggroed i got the quest complete

Lvl 11 Priest, no wand. Had a really hard time with this one, the nine shades spawned in succession so fast that I couldn't keep them off the crystal, or myself, and died. Horribly, I tell you.

What finally worked:
Had some lovely Lynx Steak and Bloodthistle Petal, & threw on Touch of Weakness. Set the crystal down & shielded, then dotted the first 3 shades with Pain. Kept shield up and Renew + heal pot on self as I ran around and hit the new spawning shades with my stick to keep aggro on myself and not the crystal until the minute was up and then I ran away screaming until I lost the shades.

As a level 9 mage this was incredibly easy... the crystal has enough hp to tank two of the wraiths while you kill the first, then just kill them one at a time

Thought this was really hard. Level 10 priest. Finally got it though, just required lots of kiting and lots of shielding.

Easily done with a level 10 Priest. Casted Touch of Weakness, placed the stone. Shadow Word: Pain on all wraiths to keep aggro, Mindblasted one after another to take them down, bubble, heal, rinse, repeat.

Handled easily as a lvl 11 rogue. If you have solid dual-wield weapons and activate slice & dice, you should have no problem with this quest.

Very easy quest. Soloed this quest with a lvl 11 paladin. Used One-Hand and Shield. Downed the two waves very easy, didn't loose more than 25% hp. Just use Seal of Righteousness and Judgement of Righteousness.

Well, this quest is really easy as a lvl 11 BE walock (w/ voldwalker) send in VW and dot the two waves (very easy)

just stood near the crystal, dotted all 3 while shield was already up and gave them all just 1 smite. 2nd spawn just kept standing..

lvl 11 priest.

Just make sure u first shield up and then put down the crystal, so u can use another shield when it goes down without the few seconds of weakened soul.

Very easy quest, the mobs that spawns have little to no health and die very easy. I had to hit each twice for them to die and as such I had to wait for the quest to complete itself.

rhis quest totally ate my level 11 Warlock alive. did it with my level 13 priest, no problem. i dunno if they changed the quest or what but i got one wave of three and then the second wave of 3 just stood idly on the sidelines. dunno if it was a glitch or not but it worked in my favor, so i am not complaining.

This was simple as a 12 Pally, I kinda thought it would be a little difficult when I read that there were 2-3 mobs a few times, I onl got 3 mobs twice, and they pretty well went down in 2-3 hits MAX...

if you dont have coordinates go to the place that have tha same symbol as the symbol that is on you'r map there you starts the quest =) easy 12 hunter xD

I did it with my lvl 11 rogue. Put the crystal down and stealth. All three shades came to crystal...once they start attacking it, I just hit one at a time real fast. They go down fast. Once they are dead I stealth again. I don't know if it glitched or something but the second wave did not attack. My quest still completed.

Quest might have been nerfed, not sure. It is very easy. You simply place the crystal down in front of the Runestone (located at 55,84/directly east of quest giver just before mountain line) and then three shades will come out. They have very low health and go down quickly, once these are down another set of three (of equal health) appear. Quest is very easy to do, done on a level 10 Priest, I simply used Shadow Word: Pain on each mob, Mind Blasted when up and melee'd, didn't worry about Smite. Use your shield.

Did it as 10 paladin, very easy quest. You don't need to kite. I killed the mobs very easily they are very weak.

As a level 10 mage i fund it easy. Only 2 mobs. Each containing 3 shades. And as you can step back and arcane missile them down 1 by one.

If you go to the other side of the Death Scar you will see a Runestone that will look just like the one that the quest-giver is standing near. While you are waiting for the 1 minute to be up, you will have to kill some Manawraiths, but they are very easy to kill.

Quests is easy soloable as lvl12 affliction warlock.
Just sent pet on one, done debuffs on other and we killed them, and together on 3d.

Stone is at 55,48.
When you summon stone 3x lvl9 will summon, you need to kill them 2 or 3 times.

Tip for warlock : they aren't fearable

A few things.
They are level 9-10 and have 50ish healths and one shadowbolt was enough for me to take them down (one of them didnt die but my imp killed it with firebolt)
The first wave attacks the crystal and seemingly won't aggro you unless you damage them individually. Second wave however, directly come attack you. (I've done this quest 4 times or so, same story everytime) So be careful if you are trying this at low levels.

Something a little odd I noticed about this quest when I did it with my Druid. I was a level 11, I went up and placed the crystal and then switched to Bear Form and waited. The first wave spawned, but they didn't come to attack. However when the second wave spawned they all came at once. But it really wasn't that big of a deal.

I started attacking one, then popped DemoRoar and they switched to me, I didn't take much damage at all with 5 of them on me(one resisted the Roar). The crystal can actually stand a little bit of damage, it's not entirely weak.

Just thought I would mention that.

EDIT- I've done this quest twice before, but this was the first time as a Druid. They have never come all at once like that before, maybe because I was in Bear Form? Don't know.

Hardly a task for a L9 Paladin. If one doesn't focus on you, remember that you can use Mana Tap to gain their attention immediately.

The wraiths that appear are so easy to kill they might as well not even be there; from my experience, most classes don't need to hit them more than 3 or 4 times (Mages, Warlocks, and Priests can probably 1-shot 'em). Just set your crystal down, then smack down all the spawns

lol (Blood Elf) this was the was the easiest mission ive ever done i planted in and then use Stealth (Rank 2) and found a safe distance and then let everything else work its self out.

It heals itself which is cool XD

you need to be really close to the stone and right click the stone. then when the shadows appear then step back and target one so that you pet can attack that on while you attack another then attack the third and then repeat the steps until you get a complete.

I'd better admit it, I've always hated this quest, as I'm lousy at handling several mobs at a time. Which is probably why my mage didn't do this quest until lvl14. At that time I had Arcane Explosion, did the spell twice on each wave and that was it. So easy... duh, at lvl 14 what a surprise.

Tons of comments here so I doubt anyone will see this but whatever.

Fun fact for Shamans doing this quest: your Searing Totem is actually intelligent for once, it will turn, target and attack the spirits before they're in range to attack you, even if you haven't attacked them. At higher levels your totem can actually one-shot them all before any of them reach you, it's weird to see considering the AI for Searing Totem is usually so minimal and broken.

Powering our Defenses

Place the Infused Crystal at the Eastern Runestone and protect it from the Scourge for 1 minute. Return the Infused Crystal to Runewarden Deryan in Eversong Woods for a reward.

Description

Ancient runestones once powered a protective barrier across the Eversong border. Many were destroyed during Arthas' attack; others were stolen.

Of the three that remain, only this one has retained its powers. The runestone to the east might be salvageable, though.

Take this crystal and instill its energy on the Eastern Runestone. The process should take but a minute. Beware though, nearby Scourge will be drawn to it and will seek to destroy it. Do not let them!
