Try to get your hands on a Twilight Prophet(http://www.wowhead.com/?npc=15308). I saw one walking by and I was like "hey, what the heck.. let me try and kill her." As a shadow priest, I mind control'd her, had her kill her escorts, which are usually two avengers, and then had her kill another cultist near by .( MC is awsome) .. by the time my mind control up, her health was down to 20% and was easy pickings.

Here is the kicker -- she dropped 9 texts!

You can find 2 prophets in the cave at the end of the cave at 68.15, and they'll give you around 7 texts each!! There are also a twilight master and Vyral the Vile, an easy-kill mob. You can take them in group of two. Got them as a 59 druid.

I have killed 5 Twilight Avengers around 41,46 and all four have dropped the quest item.

Droprate not so bad - after 5-6 turns around 40,44 camp and killing mobs just from the border of it I've got all 10 Encrypted Twilight Texts. Twilight Prophets too tough for me (60lvl hunter.), killed me twice. If You're strong enough, one Prophet wanders around NW corner of the camp.

Jaxthegreat is correct. As of 11/30/08 she dropped 8 texts for me. Soloable as a level 57 BM Hunter. I'm not sure if she has different spawning levels, but she was a level 60 Elite with 2 adds.

There's no doubt about it, resign yourself to this being a grinding quest. Look at the bright side, you will gain a few bars of xp and some rep points with the Cenarion Circle. My best luck seems to be at the cave at 68,15. With one run through the cave I got 7 drops, plus 3 more from the mobs immediately outside. I never ran into any Twilight Prophets.

The drop rate seems to have gone up a lot on these guys. I was killing the group to the north east and was getting a drop every 2 mobs or so.

I found this quest hard at first because there was a low drop rate, then I saw a Twilight Prophet at the twilight outpost in the bottom left of the map, I used "Force Of Nature" (The spell that creates 3 treants). To take aggro on the two avengers that were following the prophet. Then damaged it with my level 55 druid. Once I killed it, It dropped 10 of the text things. My advise would to find a Twilight Prophet or else it would take about 50 mobs to get all the texts. Hope This Will Help! :)

Hard to kill with those two avengers. She fears so i ran into a couple mobs and died twice. I wouldn't say she was easy to kill because i had to go out of my feral form to heal and then go back and finish her off. I got 9 texts from the prophet and 1 from the avengers so that was lucky on my part i suppose.

Yes, definitely go for the Prophet if you have even a remote chance of victory there. I started out killing the peons at the camps, and probably killed at least 30-40 of them for only three texts. Then I read the comments here and found the Prophet just outside the camp in the southwest. Managed to gank her and two Avengers solo on the first try with a level 57 tank warrior (about 4700 health). She dropped 8 texts all at once.

I think it would be less frustrating and time-consuming to die 9 times going after her and succeeding on the 10th try than it is to try to get all 10 texts from the other Twilight pukes. Assuming you have any realistic chance at beating her, anyway.

Found it very hard to kill her so I thought id have a go at collecting from from the Twilight Avengers - there are two types of Avengers Level 54 and Level 55, you need to kill the Level 55 (also the bigger of the two types) for the the Text's

On my 54 arms warrior, I was killing a normal add, a prophet came along, just used Intimidating Shout, zerged down prophet and then popped victory rush and killed both guards... really wasn't too hard

I killed about 70 of the mobs that drop the texts (i got 6 from 70 mobs) before reading about the prophet, such a waste of time, she dropped 10

There's a cave @ 70, 16 full of Firereavers and Overlords. Every once in a while one would drop a bit of text. I killed Vyral the Vile with one 3k crit (as a lvl 61 mage, this was cake) but he didn't drop any texts and he is no longer elite. Never did see a prophet wandering around, but I managed to get 10 txts without the prophet and I didn't spend my entire life mindlessly wandering Silithus :)

I'm guessing they nerfed the almighty god out of them, because on my 54 balance druid, I had an easy time taking her down along with the followers. 3-4 wrath spells and she was already at half health and her spells don't hit you for that much either.

Found a prophet at 38. 38
She walks between Twilight base camp and Twilight post.... so just ride along and you will bump into her along that route
She has 2 guys with her
im playing as a Rogue .. i knocked one guard unconscious and made the other blind
thinking the prophet would be easy picking on her own
as i started about her, a whirlwind and scorpion decided to attack me too!

I had to vanish and try again 30 seconds later.... it worked and i got 10 texts :D

to the guy who said go into the cave in the north east of the map.... your wrong, i fought all the way in and out dying twice in the process.... got nothing! :(

Update
I then found the other Prophet walking between Hive'Zora and the Twilight outpost in the south west corner... as i had no health, i had to follow her.
She seems to follow the edge of the mountain line ... she was actually appearing from the back of the Hive on the little bit of sand between the Hive and the Mountains when i fist spotted her... i followed and Killed her at 30. 71 and received 8 text :)

I got 10 papers, as a rogue it was easy. I sapped the prophet, not the avengers, then killed avengers, then prophet. Quest done.

Between the Prophet and her two adds, I acquired eleven of the text with a level 62 Priest.

not only does this quest have a terrible drop rate, but when you are in a party you do not share items. a plus at least is you do not have to be on the quest to gather the pages.

If you do the Geolords quest along with this one, the drop rate from Geolord is 1 for every 2 killed. Works out to be about 5 texts. So then you only have to kill 500 more instead of 5000. ;)

Found the Prophet right outside of Twilight Post walking from Twilight Base camp. Just walk/fly back and forth until you find her. Had no problem with my 61 hunter.

Killed 25 plus cultists with no text drop. My bags were full. Don't be me. Had no trouble acquiring them once I lightened the load, so these do not appear to drop if you cannot hold them.

If you're doing the Silithus Quests achievement, you do not have to complete this quest. You do however need 10 texts for True Believers, which is required.

As of March 2019, the drop rate for the Encrypted Twilight Text is ABYSMAL, it is seriously not worth doing this quest - the prophets that I did attack were fearing me into other mobs much quicker then years past. Overall, other quests can be done much faster then this, just move on.

Dragonflight 2023

Just wanted to put together some of the posts scattered throughout comments. Not exactly TD:DR, but I'll keep it informative. =)

1) As Dugonballs said, the fastest way from Neutral to Exalted is buying Encrypted Twilight Texts from the AH. (On my cluster there were over 67,000 of them up for only 75 silver each.) You currently need exactly 840x Encrypted Twilight Texts. Alts can mail them to you, there is a mailbox at Cenarion Hold to receive them.

2) PORTAL OPTIONS:

* Take your main city portal to Uldum (far southern zone on Kalimdor continent), then fly N/NW from there.
* If not unlocked, try the Caverns of Time portal (far SE corner zone on Kalimdor with Gadgetzan as the main town), then fly far NW from there.
* If neither are unlocked, Horde can portal to Zandalar's main temple and use the Thunderbluff portal (this city is NE of Silithus), then fly SW from there. Otherwise fly your buns from Orgrimmar on the zeppelin.
* If neither are unlocked, Alliance can take Stormwind's Menethil Harbor boat to Theramore Isle (Dustwallow Marsh, eastern Kalimdor), then fly exactly SW from there.

3) If you aren't already time-phased to the past:

* From Uldum portal, visit Zidormi at /way 56 35 to time shift at Ramkahen city.
* From Theramore Isle portal (Dustwallow Marsh), visit Zidormi at /way 56 50 at the edge of the bridge (E of Direhorn Post).
* From any direction and in case you missed the others, visit Zidormi in far NE corner of Silithus at /way 79 22 on top of the cliff!

4) There is a glowing natural jacuzzi-looking pool right next to your end target, Bor Wildmane. ( /way 53 35 ) He gives quest Secret Communication that turns in your 1st x10 Encrypted Twilight Texts. This becomes the repeatable turn-in quest Encrypted Twilight Texts.

5) Create a simple macro with an easy name (using the in-game default or your fave add-on). Default is /macro to access the menu. You will enter the below lines (sort of as rantaladar suggested) into your macro (make sure each /run sentence on on its own line) and save it w/o closing the macro window. (current as of this date)

/run C_GossipInfo.SelectAvailableQuest(8319)
/run AcceptQuest()
/run CompleteQuest()
/run GetQuestReward()

6) Drag the icon for the saved macro onto your action bar that uses the # hotkeys (# 1 - 9, 0 - = ), you can move one of your others over for now. Now safe to close your macro window.

7) HOW TO USE (for peeps who aren't macro geeks):
With your mouse, left-click Bor Wildmane 1x, and tap your hotkey 3-4x in a row to complete each turn-in. Ka-ching! Repeat with the remaining stacks of Encrypted Twilight Text until Exalted. You'll be turning in each 10 in seconds, the entire process not even a minute if your net is good.

Description

Some of the Twilight's Hammer cultists carry around little papers with gibberish written on them. I want you to bring me a stack of them, <class>.

I can't figure out what the gibberish means, but that's not the point! These papers are how their different groups communicate secretly. The more texts we take out of circulation, the less they can communicate!
