Terrage's coords are checked and correct. However i excpected a school of fish, but you just have to fish the plain water untill you catch the required fish. Good luck for catching them fast.

This quest and it's prerequisites require exactly 225 fishing. The prerequisites only point you to Nat Pagle and they aren't necessary in order to get this quest. With a simple +75 fishing lure and fishing on Terrag's coords (see above) you'll get the fish in around 5 tries.

at 225 and lvl 35 you can get this quest. might be hard to get to some of the places to get those specific fish at lvl 35 though.

What Hacy wrote isnt the whole truth since I had to do over 80 casts to get the Feralas Ahi. I tried several spots and 62,49 seemed to be the one that did the trick although the quest description and Rubinous comment tell that there is no "specific coord" where you should catch the fish.

The other three got caught in 5-10 casts like mentioned above.

Anyway once again, dont forget the +75 fishing lure (especially in Feralas) and good luck.

Try to step in the water and then cast, i had in STV and Swamp the fish in one cast stepping in to the water on the coords Terraq posted. It might be a lucky hit...

Thank you Onrust.... I fished those coords with no luck for 30 minutes with my fishing skill boosted to 325 by my pole with a lure until I stood in the water and got the Ahi within 2 casts. I think there is something to standing at or just inside the waterline.

This is definitively a tedious quest just to break the skill cap for a secondary profession. Cooking and First Aid are less work and less annoying.

The exact coordinates mentioned above are not important, the only thing that matters is that you are in the correct subzone (as mentioned in the quest text). Of course the coordinates given here help with finding those locations.

Be prepared to fish for a while until you get the quest fish. My success varied from slightly over 5 minutes to about 15 minutes of fishing necessary to get my catch (done after the 2.1.0 patch with its increased fishing speed).

NB: Attaching a lure does not make you fish faster and does not improve your success rate in getting specific (eg. higher level) fishes. Only attach a lure if you get the "your fish got away" message or if you're unable to cast in a specific location.

BTW while you're at Sar'theris Strand you could as well check the nearby traps (underwater) for a Big Iron Fishing Pole (drop rate from a trap is about 1:100).

I did this quest as a 70 hunter with epic mount. It went quick and I started in Stormwind (talking for ally here) then i took a ride to Blasted Lands and zoned to Swamp of Sorrows, after I went back to Blasted Lands and then took the ride to STV. After that the boat to Ratchet and the ride to Desolace, then zoned/took the ride to Feralas. I made it on about 30 minutes. As long you are over 40 it will go quite quick.

I attempted to catch these fish for a couple hours using Seth's Graphite fishing pole and came up with nothing. This may be a bug on the pole since it is from a TBC quest. I used a regular fishing pole later and got my resulting catches within 15 attempts for all of em.

Caught my Feralas Ahi in one cast, lured with Bright Baubles on a Strong Fishing Pole. I was standing on the east bank with my feet in the water.

I got all my fishes using the coords in the first post. You can get all of them without fishing lures, though using a lure in Feralas is adviced, otherwise you will get a lot of "your fish got away"-messages.

Succesful catches I needed to get my fish:

Feralas Ahi: 9
Misty Reed Mahi Mahi: 14
Sar'theris Striker: 40
Savage Coast Blue Sailfin: 20

As of 2.3 all fish take an average of 20-40 casts, somewhere around a 5% drop rate. Took me 70 STV casts, 30 Swamp casts, 40 feralas and 5 desolace

Is it just me, or are all of the fish locations for this quest very Horde centric? I flew to Camp Mojache, bam it was right there. Shadowprey, bam. Grom'Gol, bam. Stonard, a little run, and bam.

Alliance flight paths aren't nearly as close to those locations. Granted, Nat Pagle is right outside an Alliance city, but he's a quick find too for Horde after 2.3, with the addition of the Mudsprocket FP.

So Alliance fishers, good luck!

pretty easy quest.

i did it at lvl 70 between arenas (10min queue sucks).
go to nat pagle for quest - arena - catch a fish - arena - catch another - ... - go to nat to complete

Maybe I just got really lucky or maybe they changed in patch 2.3 but I got all these fish on the first cast besides the Feralas one. I used a lure for it seeing as everyone seemed to which let me get it on the second cast. Co-ords are perfect.

I didn't, and skipped to the Striker after getting the first fish. I fished THREE hours with nothing. I then went and got the second fish (5 casts), came back to Desolace, and got the Striker in 2 casts.

Finally did this quest the other day, so here's some results -

Misty Reed Mahi Mahi - 2 casts
Sar'theris Striker - 3 casts
Feralas Ahi - 16 casts
Savage Coast Blue Sailfin - 8 casts

Average of 7 casts per fish, or a 13.8% drop rate. All fishing done at 325 skill (225 base + FC-5000 + Bright Bauble). Locations close to Terrag's coordinates, but not exact with exception of STV which was done on south side of cove opposite his loc (approx. 31,36).

Some fish are easier to catch than others. Feralas is the hardest place to fish, a lure will definitely be necessary there (I started out with 225 Fishing skill of course, plus the +25 fishing rod, and still most all fish got away before I attached the +75 Bright Baubles lure.)
In the other 3 places, the fish will bite without a lure.

It took me 30 tries to get the Feralas fish, about 25 casts in Desolace, but in the Swamp of Sorrows and Stranglethorn the fish bit fairly quickly after about 8 to 10 tries.

Each fish took an average of 10 casts and came up with another fish. Not by itself in a cast. None required a lure. 225 skill required to take the quest.

I have now done this quest 3 times on three realms with 2 lvl 70 alliance alts and a lvl 37 horde alt.

The locations given by terraq are spot on, but remember to stand in the water!
The time to fish varied from a couple of minutes to 1 cast for the two alliance alts (lvl 70) In fact I manged both the Desolace and Feralas fish on the same Aquadynamic Fish Attractor.
However the horde alt (lvl 37) needed to fish for a minimum of 4 minutes for each fish. ( 5-6 minutes left on the Aquadynamic Fish Attractor)

It may be that the lower your combat level is the longer it takes to fish.

On all three occasions at lvl 225 fishing I just swam out to Nat Pagle and got the quest, no pre-requisite of any sort was required.

Oh and XP is now 5550 for lvl 37

As of 2.4 - Horde

The coords from the previous posts are correct ( just make sure you're in the area it says in the quest, exact coords don't matter).

I got every fish w/in 10 casts except for the swamp of sorrows fish which took around 20 (all with nightcrawlers).

The other posts stated the Feralas Ahi was the most difficult but i got it on the 3rd cast with 9 mins left on my bobber.

The most difficult parts of the quest were getting to Nat Pagle and the Swamp of Sorrows shore. For the SoS, I went to the south along the mnts and killed many lvl 40ish spiders. Go left just before the shore and there's a Horde camp to rest in. Go to the shore and watch the mobs and u should be able to get to a safe fishing spot by killing only one.

There is no method to the madness!! Catch these fish in any order at the coords above.

My first catch in Feralas came in about 8 casts. The second in Desolace was landed on the very first cast. The third in SoS came after TWENTY FIVE CASTS!! DOne on the lower part of the beach around 90,73??? Anyway, the last catch was on the second cast. It can be done just up past the Bloodsail Compound on the Southern Savage Coast. You may not even have to go up that far. That was around 25,49.

Did they change the drop rate on the fishes? I'm hearing within 5 casts people normally get the fish but my STV, Desolace, and SoS attempts took me anywhere from 15-20 casts and my Feralas took me 47 casts. Did they make it harder or am I just extremely unlucky?

I don't think the drop rate has been lowered; I caught three of the four required fish within five casts. The Misty Reed Mahi-Mahi took ten casts, with a regular Blump Family Fishing Pole and Nightcrawlers.

Note: The Sailfin can also be caught south of Booty Bay, along the "Southern Savage Coast" area.

To everyone trying to speculate on # of casts: IT'S RANDOM. Even if it's a 99% chance it could still take you 100 casts to get it. Not very likely, but it could happen. You could get the fish on the first cast or the 50th, that's just the way the game works whether the chance is 1 in 4 or what. Every cast is an isolated event and your chance to catch the fish is not affected by anything you've done previously.

It took me the following number of casts to catch each of the fish for this quest:

21 casts to catch Savage Coast Blue Sailfin.
15 casts to catch Misty Reed Mahi Mahi
13 casts to catch Sar'theris Striker
16 casts to catch Feralas Ahi

I had an average of 16.25 casts/fish. I hope each of you have better luck.

If you are going to do this quest, do yourself a favor... Download the addon "Quest Helper". It shows where the best chance of fishing the fish are. It really helps. I got all the fish in about 3 casts. Except for the Misty Reed Mahi Mahi in Swamp of Sorrows, that took me about 15-20 casts.

I did it this way: Grabbed the quest and hearthed, then went to Thunder Bluff. Flew to Desolace and caught on the first try, went to Feralas and got it within 10, flew to Ratchet and moved to Stranglethorn.

From Stranglethorn I ran outside to the coast and caught within 5 casts (in a side story, I had fun nuking a 22 human warlock (Elkheart, The Scryers server) on the boat so he'd instantly respawn and miss his boat). Heading to the flight point I went to Swamp of Sorrows and caught my Mahi on the second cast. All in all, a simple quest, and helluva fun time nuking that 'lock.

In short: Thunder Bluff to start, Desolace to Feralas to Ratchet to Booty Bay to Swamp of Sorrows. All in one hearth.

Using the +75 Bauble and +20 Fishing Pole, I was able to catch all the necessary fish within at most 5 casts for each fish at the appointed nodes. No "Your fish got away!" problems after attatching the bauble. You can get the Baubles at Camp Mojache in Feralas from the <Trade Supplies> vendor in the big tent in the middle of the town.

Not sure where the most convenient place is for Alliance.

I found out that I was unable to do the fishing daily quests at 70 because I did not level up. Sooo, I went back and did it. Of course it was pretty easy to avoid all the aggro, but found that at each spot I got my required fish in under 10 mins. I was very lucky at Southern Savage Coast to get it on the first cast. My route went from Feralas to Desolace to STV to Swamp of Sorrows. Took all evening but I think I am on my way... :)

It is definitely random, and it looks like level has nothing to do with it either. I ended up doing this at 62 (Night Elf BM Hunter) on Cenarion Circle with these results:

Feralas Ahi - 30 casts / 7 minutes (interesingly same as Merowlin)
Sar'theris Striker - 7 casts / 2 minutes
Savage Coast Blue Sailfin - 35 casts / 8 minutes
Misty Reed Mahi Mahi - 19 casts / 5 minutes

Average was 22.75 casts per fish. I used Aquadynamic Fish Attractors in all locations, but I still believe I can claim the worst overall drop rate on this comment page so far! ;)

Just went to desolace, fished for like 10 minutes off of the dock where the FP is, nothing.
Ran south to the beach with the dead crawler bodies (scenery, not actual mob bodies), got it on first cast! Don't waste your time on the dock IMHO.

They must have changed this quest resently because i went 4 for 4 on the special fish. i got everyone on the first cast. much easy then before and since it takes aprox. 6 fish/casts to get a poit at 225 i lost maybe 1 point doing the quest, compared to the 20-30 points last time i did it. plus, i took me a mere faction of the time. im thinking 25,30 mins tops.

first - to desolace. fly there. then to feralas. fly there too. then i went to ratchet. took boat to BB and from there, with mount over shroe get 3rd piece of fish item. then from gg to sos. from there, hs to shatt. go to og, fly to questgiver and completed quest. easiest way.

I dont wanna be whining but why do blizz dont remove this and the cook q (wich are much simmular)? They are just booring and i dont realy feel any rewarding plessure when completed. Just like; nice i just wasted 2 hours of farming and traveling thru both Eastern and Kamildor to be able to continue to farm my skills in cooking and fishing :S Dont overdo the way to complete a goal like this.

Coming from a guy who has done this with four characters; coordinates don't matter, just the zone you fish in. Sometimes you get it in one cast, sometimes (like me today) it takes ~45 minutes.

The 100% catch rate on this quest is no more. It was apparently stealth de-nerfed in 3.0.8 or 3.0.9.

I can't find where either change is documented in the patch notes, so it's quite likely that the 100% catch was unintended to begin with.

Seriosly, any programmer of Blizz plays alliance actually? i have both sides characters, and it's easy to notice how much easier also this quest is for horde.. Routes are way shorter, actually them spots are about right next to flypoints exept feralas and swamp sorrow's short runs.

According to El's Anglin' this quest won't be needed anymore to get beyond 225 fishing skill, it can be trained:

All fishing trainers now teach Expert and Artisan fishing skill ranks. Juno Duffrain in Zangarmarsh also teaches Master rank. The Expert and Master rank books are no longer sold. New trained requirements are:

* Expert Fishing - 1 gold, level 10, fishing skill 125.
* Artisan Fishing - 2 gold 50 silver, level 10, fishing skill 200.

Only character level 10 is required to train fishing all the way to 450.

Expert and Artisan cooking ranks are also taught by trainers in Old Azeroth and Outland. Master Cooking is still taught by a book.

It will now reward a pretty nice fishing pole. People who already did the quest can still go visit Nat and get the pole!

Finally decided to work on my fishing on an alt.. got to 225 and was able to train further at the fishing trainer in Booty Bay, but I remembered this quest reward from leveling my main so I resigned myself to traveling all over creation to find the fish... went to Nat Pagle to get the quest, Nat had the ! over his head but he didn't ask me to do the quest, just gave me the rod. :D

Okay, just finished the quest. Got the 1000 fish achivement while I did it. this is the casts it took, I unfortunately forgot to note the coordinates. I was using my Strong Fishing Pole, with Aquadynamic Fish Attractors.

Ferelas Ahi- 2nd cast, came up at the same time as a Raw Redgill.
Sar'theris Striker- 14th cast, got it with a Raw Rockscale Cod.
Savage Coast Blue Sailfin- 9th cast, same time as a Raw Rockscale Cod.
Misty Reed Mahi Mahi- 17th cast, came with a Raw Spotted Yellowtail.

I think they MIGHT want to raise the quest level on this one. 225 fishing and level 45 takes 4ever, not to mention being aggro bait for everything in 3 counties.

15 fishing points and 1 death later, "Quest Complete" PITA if i ever saw one.

I just did this at level 85 and had around 237 fishing skill when I started. I wasn't catching the fish in Feralas until I added bright baubles as my lure and caught it first try. In Desolace and Stranglethorn I caught them after a couple casts. In Swamp of Sorrows it took approximately 22 casts with 21 "catches" until I got the Misty Reed Mahi Mahi. I was using the bright baubles again and was still getting some junk. My pole also gave me +5 fish skill. Ended with 244 fishing skill when I finished.

No way to get this quest done at level 40 any more. Swamp of Sorrows mobs are all labeled "Boss".

I completed this quest today, so it is still around after the Cata expansion. It was fairly easy, only requiring around ten casts per location. Also, due to all the new flightpaths, there are now convenient flightpaths very close to every fishing location for the Alliance.

That was odd. I was flying from Theramore to do some archaeology, and caught the yellow exclamation point. Ran down there and he said, "Well hello there, young night elf. Either my memory is failing me, or I forgot to give you this the last time we spoke..." Voila, insta-Nat's Lucky Fishing Pole.

No idea what I did before; guess I did the quest back when.

Just tried to pick up this quest and it wasn't available. Since it used to be the only way to get Artisan Fishing I thought maybe my fishing skill was too low. It was at 206 and Artisan Fishing is 225. So I fished in the waters around Nat until it hit 225. Sure enough as soon as I got the Expert Fisherman achievement, Nat Pagle had a quest for me.

As of patch 4.2 Nat's Lucky Fishing Pole is still the quest reward.

He have just given my alts the fishing pole without asking anything in return, as they have done the quest line before, but the fishing pole is a "newer" reward. Before, I think it was only to get master fishing, and there was no other reward. So if you have done the quest line before, you can visit him and pick up the pole and some silver. He won't ask you to do anything for it.

When fishing in Swamp of Sorrows, there's goblin beach party on the beach, on the north side of Bogpaddle. It's not highlighted on the map as a quest area, but I was able to fish there at 40 without agroing anything. I actually got the quest fish there on the 3rd cast. Just make sure the mini map says Misty Reed Strand, rather than Bogpaddle, and you should be good to go.

There are docks to the NE of Bogpaddle, but at 40 I was unable to fish there without agroing the makrura swimming around below.

Also, the road from Redridge to Burning Steppes (if you go that route) is now heavily guarded by swarms of fire demons. Expect to eat a death or two just getting to the flight point, if you're lower level.

Did it easily on my lvl 56 Blood Elf Warrior. First I flew to Desolace and traveled to the Sar'theris Strand which is near the horde village. Started casting, caught the striker within a few casts. I then flew to Feralas and headed to the Verdantis River. Once again took only a few casts until I caught the Ahi, next I flew to Ratchet and took the boat to Booty Bay, went to the southern Savage Coast, started casting and once again caught the blue sailfin within a few casts. Next I flew to Swamp of Sorrows and headed to bogpaddle which is right by the water, started fishing and caught the Misty Reed within a few minutes. My fishing skill went from 250 to 270 during this quest. Did it all in just under 30 minutes.

This is a good quest to do if you're tired and don't feel like killing anything.

Took about 45 mins, and for some reason only gave me 550 xp on a lvl 57 Blood Elf Priest.

Each place took about 20-30 catches for me without a lure. Had 254 skill going in, 303 coming out.

I managed to do this as a lvl 37 Gobblin Hunter & received 6,000 XP for it (showing as red in my quest list).

Desolace, Sar'theris Strand - just outside Shadowprey Village
Alliance - stay away from the village! The beach itself is "safe".

Feralas, Verdantis River - it's in the middle of Feralas

Northern Stranglethorn Vale, Savage Coast :
Horde - just outside Grom'Gol Base Camp
Alliance - stay away from there! Go further along the coast either way.

Swamp of Sorrows, Misty Reed Strand - I found a safe place on an island at 89.20 80.42 just inside the blue quest area. Climb up in the middle on the North side.
Got there by riding through the Murlocks, and dying once (sacrificing my pet) to get to the safe area to the south of them, then swimming out of range along the shore (at the edge of the sand bar).
Confirmed that there still is a beach party at 73.69.8.83 just outside Bogpaddle.

The first 3 I have listed here, I caught in a maximium 5 to 10 casts.
Misty Reed Mahi Mahi took about 20 to 30 casts at fishing level around 280.

This is a great quest post-cata for any leveler. While every other quest in the game seems to be nerfed into oblivion with no challenge of any kind, this quest has lowbie characters going to Swamp of Sorrows which is much higher level now. It used to be about lvl 32 and now it's 52-53ish -- undoubtedly an oversight on Blizzard's part but I'm not gonna look a gift horse in the mouth. Seems like they have made Stonard bigger too or at least put another camp of Horde npcs out north of it. The best part is, it's too high level for my lowbie monk to automatically get the flight path so I actually had to ride to the Alliance town there *and discover the flight path zomgbbq!111one.* Plus I think a person's fishing skill needs to be about 275 to reliably catch stuff there. At least you can level fishing now before you complete the quest! (:

So if anybody wants to know what wow used to be like, do this quest. I think it's great and a refreshing change from depressing boredom.

My human mage just turned this in at lvl. 50. Does Nat give you further challenges? Do you have to have Mists of Pandaria in order to get them?

Confirmed that it requires 225 fishing skill to get this quest. I had raised it to 224 with one of my alts and then i went to Dustwallow Marsh to check Nat. Well, I started fishing near him till i got 225 and voila the exclamation mark appeared over his head.

God this quest was a handful back in 04-05! Half these fish locations I hadn't even been to yet and had to run to them. I spent so much time scouring the internet (remember Thottbot?) on where exactly to fish it wasn't unusual to return to a cold corpse. Probably gained a level in exploring alone not to mention the unavoidable confrontation with mobs 3-4 lvls up on me.

You would have to wait patiently in places for red mobs to pass by and then once you found the fishing spot you thought was the right spot you were always looking nervously over your shoulder at those lobster guys in Desolace. Or trying to fish on the very northern tip of the Swamp of Sorrows coastline while watching for pvp Horde patrols. Feralas was where "stay-on-the-path" was the rule of the day no matter how tempting those deadly short-cuts looked. And only rogues could stealth their way past tough Stranglethorn mobs to that fishing spot.

Heck, just getting to Pat Nagle (twice) was nerve-wracking because you had a hard time determining how far those Loch Ness things were underwater. Remember, people accepted this quest quite a few levels below the recommendation. You were always looking for "easy" red quests for massive leveling spurts and honestly, how hard could it be reeling in four fish?

If it sounds like I'm complaining I'm actually remembering fondly how much fun this quest was. A small handful of us loved fishing back before TBC and this was all we had. My memory is foggy, but I believe you needed this quest in order to level your fishing skill past 225. Don't think a fishing pole was awarded until 09 or so.

If you have a toon that is mid 30's try doing this vanilla-style: No mounts, no flying to skip trouble spots, equip yourself in greens and 2 or 3 blue gear. Save yourself some trouble and take a couple stacks of lures. The whole point is testing yourself and having fun, not getting this over with so you can get the fishing pole.

Did this quest tonight on my 46 Goblin Warlock with a fishing skill of 237. I went to Desolace first. Flew to Shadowprey Village, and then ran down to the coast just south of the village. As a little bonus, I got to do the Honor the Flame Midsummer quest. After I caught the fish, I ran back to the flightmaster at Shadowprey and flew to Camp Mojache in Ferelas. Probably should have flown into Stonemaul Hold. I got to the bridge and jumped off and swam over to shore to do the fishing. Ran over to Stonemaul and flew to Ratchet where I took the boat to STV.

I had to kill quite a few bloodsails while fishing here. There doesn't seem to be a good safe spot along the Savage Coast.

And then... depression set in. I discovered that I'd never been to Swamp of Sorrows on this toon, and didn't have any flight paths north of Gromgol, or south of New Kargoth. So I did it the hard way. I flew over to Fuselight, ran down to Fuselight by the Sea, and then swam all the way to Swamp of Sorrows. Took about 10 minutes to make the swim - my Unending Breath wore off once. Got to Bogpaddle, got the flight point, and started fishing.

Got mugged by the Klacknacks and silt crawlers a few times, but I got the fish. Now it's back to Dustwallow Marsh to complete the quest!

Longest part of this quest is the travel time. I had a 300 classic fishing skill (post-BFA profession changes) and no buffs. Here's how many casts it took me to catch each fish:

Feralas Ahi (Feralas): 9

Misty Reed Mahi Mahi (Swamp of Sorrows): 4

Sar'theris Striker (Desolace): 6

Savage Coast Blue Sailfin (Stranglethorn Vale): 9

It took me 20 casts to get the Mahi Mahi and ended up with an increase from 231 to 235 in classic fishing.
The level up happened when I got the fish, so I suspect that you need 235 before being able to get this fish.

in Phase 2 of Season of Discovery the quest seems to be disabled. I'm level 40, 225 fishing, and the NPC doesn't offer any quest.
I'm assuming it will stay disabled until next phase as it's required to learn Artisan Fishing.

Can't say I really enjoy fishin' much. Figure I been at it for a good 20 or 30 years now.

I reckon people are driven to do what they do for different reasons.

Now, I'm not saying you need to fish for 30 years or catch every fish in the sea to become a master fisherman. I reckon you just need to be determined - determined enough to sit on your duff for hours at a time, doin' nothin'.
