I felt a little silly afterwards, but I didn't notice the dirt area in the square was a cavern and spent a bit of time running back and forth being confused as the quest marker hopped around. The Altar of Shadows is underground (entrance at 23.51, 35.10).

Edit: I notice this quest is marked as Horde, but it seems to be the same for Alliance, though I did not find the Alliance equivalent page.

Just in case anyone else is curious but decides to read this first... there is nothing of interest down the wings full of voids that branch off to the left and right after you free her spirit and on the way out.

"Free her spirit" means "kill her"

Even though you are alone in this shadow world, someone can still kill the spawn before you, which leads to looking around like a jerk trying to find some ghost to release.

I'm not saying this happened to me...

No idea if anyone else was confused by this, but the quest is turned in up in Duskwood at the same npc. I thought it was turned in at our order hall.. man that trip sucks to have to go through twice.

In case anyone else also sat there looking through their inventory for the journal like I did--it's not there:

1. Just go to the crypt entrance at /way 23.5, 35.0.
2. Run down and inside straight and you'll see a clickable journal. Click it.
3. Follow the trail and kill her.

*Small oddity: If anyone else happens to be doing this quest at the same time you are, you'll see mobs and the quest mob fighting invisible enemies. You'll still get credit for tagging.

Next quests are Champion: Natalie Seline (which you can complete immediately granting you Natalie Seline as a new follower) and Rising Shadows.

Interesting side effect while in the shadow world.. if you happen to enter a battleground, it will retain the "shadow world" effect inside the battleground. It was actually pretty cool. But once you die in the BG and respawn, it will revert back to the normal world.

I couldn't see the void path for whatever reason. Go through the two rooms to the right side. In the second room, in the upper right corner alcove there is unmapped tunnel that will lead you to the other section of catacombs.

Don't leave the catacombs, you will just exit the shadow world.

If you follow Natalie's path out of the catacombs, be aware that at the top of the stairs outside there's a rather large, rather scary enemy NPC (Morbidius) that will aggro on you. Just run about 40 yards and he will drop aggro.

Description

This is without a doubt Natalie's writing. The entry was scrawled in haste, but the message is clear: The spell within this journal will lead us to Natalie's spirit, but it needs to be incanted at a shadow altar within the catacombs.

Odessa and I have a duty to watch over Natalie's body, but with your considerable power, you should be able to perform the spell with ease.
