It's difficult to see with the areas not having any design to them yet, but there are doorways next to Khadgar, to the left and the right, that lead down into the Soul Engine.

A way to walk from Khadgar is: On the platform where he stands, on the right behind m are some stairs down. Take m, and the end turn right and take the stairs again.
Dont take the next stairs, on your right you will have the entrance where you need to be for the first objective.

Behind Khadgar and to the right is a flight of stairs, go down them. Take the 2nd flight of stairs and at the bottom to your left is the entrance to the Soul Engine.

If you are confused where to go, it's right below Khadgar where you picked up the quest.

Jump off the side of the platform to find the entrance and go in below the platform.

I had a bug when I did this quest, where the three marks disappeared when I approached them (also a lot in the room disappeared depending on the angle.

To solve this, I turned my camera view so that I was looking up from the wall on the left hand side.

When doing this quest in beta, I experienced a bug where I could not see the stasis rune at the end of the quest. To complete it, I aimed my camera up to the roof from underneath Gul'dan, and my cursor changed -- I was able to click the rune, even though it was still invisible.

For this quest run behind the items and turn around ... there they are on the little circles where they belong.

The difficult part is the last one. If you get your camera so that you can see Guldan, just lower it down and as you approach ground level you will see a "rune" of white graphics appear at his feet and sticking out a little from around his robes ... that is the rune to click and complete.

The last rune or the stasis rune is the mark on the ground under Gul'dan.

Doors/Entrances at either 54,51 or 54,44. Either head towards the portal and right/left til you see the entrance on the platform's base, or you can run down the giant stairs and there will be paths back up (if you go right, "up" stairs on the right, if you go left "up" stairs on the left). You could also just jump off the platform by the blue highlighted portion of your map. Lots of options, but the main goal is to get under the platform.

Once you hit the doorway, you are given a brief cutscene that shows you Gul'dan. There are three stones to interact with in the alcoves behind him and to either side. Once you've interacted with the three stones, the dias below Gul'dan becomes interactive - destroy it to enter another brief scene. Thenn back out and up to Khadgar for sweet sweet xp.

From Khadgar, face the portal. Ahead of you on your right (The portal's south) there are steps that lead down and then turn right, going along the southern edge of the platform where you were standing with Khadgar.

Watch the wall on your right as you go this way, there will be a door - that's your goal. A cutscene will play when you enter.

AFTER MY SECOND RUNTHROUGH: If you stand at Khadgar, turn south and walk straight, falling down to the next level, you'll be right next to the door.

Upon accepting the quest, Khadgar has this to say:

Archmage Khadgar says: Use whatever means are necessary, champion. Azeroth's final hope lies with you.

Turn sharply to your left or right and hop down...the entrance to Gul'dan is directly underneath the Dark Portal platform. The dialogue is as follows:

Upon entering:

Gul'dan says: Sever my bonds...and the portal falls.

When you click the Mark of the Burning Blade:

Gul'dan says: The bonds weaken. Freedom will be mine!

When you click the Mark of the Shattered Hand:

Gul'dan says: Grommash will pay for his arrogance.

When you click the Mark of the Blackrock:

Gul'dan says: Yes...Yes!

Once all three marks are taken care of and you click the Stasis Rune:

Gul'dan says: Do not delay, mortal. I can feel the life-essence of your armies fading. There will be time for regret later...
Gul'dan says: We will meet again...<Name>.

Remember those huge purple swirling vortexes on each side of the portal? Once Gul'dan is free, they vanish and turn into bottomless black pits. And no, you can't fall or jump into one to find secret treasure--there is an invisible wall.

1. Warlords of Draenor: The Dark Portal - (Video) - From Stormwind, go to the Mage Quarter, and enter the Mage Tower (entrance @ coords 49.5, 86.7). Click on the Portal to Blasted Lands.

• Once at the Blasted Lands, travel southwest to coords 55.0, 50.3 and click on Archmage Khadgar. Select, "FOR AZEROTH!"
• After the cut-scene, you will be on Alternate-Draenor (where this expansion will be taking place).
• Turn the quest in to Archmage Khadgar (in front of you) at coords 54.6, 48.4, and accept Azeroth's Last Stand.

2. Azeroth's Last Stand - (Video) - Kill one of the Iron Grunt located around the stairs leading up the Dark Portal, and loot the Iron Horde Missive.

• Hit 'Complete Quest,' on your sidebar, and accept Onslaught's End from Archmage Khadgar.

3. Onslaught's End - (Video) - Travel down the stairs, and turn left. Enter the structure on your right (entrance @ coords 52.2, 54.6), where a door gets blown up. Click the Mark of the Bleeding Hollow.

• Exit the structure and turn left, continuing onward and entering the structure on your left (entrance @ coords 52.2, 41.9). Click the Mark of the Shadowmoon.
• Exit the structure and go back to Archmage Khadgar (@ coords 54.6, 48.4), and turn in the quest. Accept the quest, The Portal's Power.

4. The Portal's Power - (Video) - Travel north and drop down, and go underneath the Dark Portal (entrance @ coords 54.9, 45.4 -- see video if unsure what I mean)

• Go to coords 55.9, 46.5 and click on the Mark of the Burning Blade.
• Go to coords 57.2, 48.2 and click on the Mark of the Shattered Hand.
• Go to coords 56.0, 50.1 and click on the Mark of the Blackrock.

• Turn around and go up the stairs to in front of Gul'dan, and click on the Stasis Rune, located in front of him on the ground.
• Exit the chamber and go back to Archmage Khadgar, turning in the quest The Portal's Power, and accepting The Cost of War.

5. The Cost of War - (Video) - Travel east and take the stairs, leading down, at coords 58.6, 49.6. Turn right and go inside the building (entrance @ coords 61.2, 54.6) Archmage Khadgar and friends enter.

• Turn in the quest, and pick up the next one, Blaze of Glory.
• Exit the building, and pick up the quests, Vengeance for the Fallen and Bled Dry, from the quest givers in front of you @ coords 62.1, 53.0.

6. Bled Dry - (Video) - Open the Eastern Bleeding Hollow Cage @ coords 65.7, 54.2.
Open the Southern Bleeding Hollow Cage @ coords 61.1, 62.7

7. Blaze of Glory - (Video) - Travel to the following areas to set the nearby Bleeding Hollow Huts on fire (there are three huts in the vicinity of each of the coords):

• 66.3, 55.8
• 63.7, 50.5
• 61.7, 60.7

8. Vengeance for the Fallen - (Video) - While completing the quests, Blaze of Glory and Bled Dry, kill 6 Bleeding Hollow Orcs in the area (usually while completing the other two quests, you will kill at least this number already).

• Travel to coords 71.5, 62.3 and turn in Blaze of Glory and Bled Dry to Archmage Khadgar.
• Turn in Vengeance for the Fallen to Vindicator Maraad.
• Accept the quest Altar Altercation from Archmage Khadgar.

9. Altar Altercation - (Video) - Speak to Ariok @ coords 72.0, 62.2 and select, "Khadgar has asked us to go distract the Eye of Kilrogg."

• Escort Ariok on the northeast path to the Bleeding Altar @ coords 75.9, 52.8.
• Go up the stairs @ coords 78.5, 49.7, and click on the Blood Ritual Orb @ at the top of the Altar.
• Jump down below and click the two Blood Ritual Orb @ coords 78.0, 53.4 and 76.7, 53.8.
• Travel the path to the northwest and cross the Tar'thog Bridge @ coords 72.5, 46.9.
• Turn in the quest, Altar Altercation, to Archmage Khadgar, at coords 71.9, 40.4, and then accept The Kargathar Proving Grounds.

10. The Kargathar Proving Grounds - (Video) - Follow Khadgar, and turn in this quest, picking up A Potential Ally.

11. A Potential Ally - (Video) - Travel northwest to coords 69.1, 33.8 and use Frostflurry Focus ability (your extra action button).

• After Farseer Drek'thar and Exarch Maladaar are freed, travel the path southeast (where you came) to coords 73.3, 38.7, and turn in the quest A Potential Ally to Exarch Maladaar.
• Speak to Archmage Khadgar and accept the quest, Kill Your Hundred.

12. Kill Your Hundred - (Video) - Follow Khadgar and friends into the Arena.

• You can either stay mounted and run around in a circle, or you can fight the mobs. Either way, Khadgar's friends will combat Kargarth's combatants.
• After 99 combatants are killed, the arena gates will open, and you can follow Khadgar & friends to Umbral Halls. After Khadgar collapses the entrance, turn in the quest to Archmage Khadgar at coords 81.3, 50.3.

Gul'dan says "There will be time for regret later...". Which I assume means regretting releasing him.

as of 7/2024 it's still accurate to click above guldan to complete this, just look up & you should get the lil hand used to click

Enter the Soul Engine beneath the Dark Portal, then shut the Dark Portal down.

Description

This portal is fueled by powers neither mechanical nor arcane.

Look to either side of us, <name>. The screaming souls of slain prisoners are being channeled into the heart of the portal itself.

And they are channeling these souls through the body of Gul'dan.

Find a way into the chamber beneath us, and do whatever it takes to get Gul'dan to stop his channeling. Our last hope rests on you, <name>.
