For Alliance the next step is back to Pandaria via the quest from Chen Stormstout The Old Seer which leads to Path of the Last Emperor. The next quests in the quest box are Horde only.

Each type of resource is located in a different area.

Meat - Kill butchers, easiest mob to kill

Stones - Earthshapers are easiest as well.

Oil - Mercenary Engineers however Demolishers drop 5 Oil and are fairly easy to solo

Lumber - kill the laborers and take the lumber next to them.

Killing the Kor'kron commanders (who spawn all around N. Barrens, they are marked on your map) rewards these four items much more quickly than traditional "farming."
I got ~10-45 of each item for every commander I killed. And the commanders respawn relatively quickly.

Protecting caravans and collecting items from overturned caravans are also another way to get these items.

Killing these commanders also gives you a chance for a drop of Latent Kor'Kron Chestpiece, Belt, Helm, etc, which you can combine with a Radical Mojo to create a 489 epic that suits your character's spec.

There are four ways to get these supplies:

1) Farming the four camps scattered across the Northern Barrens. There is one for each item: lumber, oil, meat, and stone. Each camp has numerous normal mobs that drop 1-2 supplies, and weak elites (~1.5-3mil health) that drop more (~5-10). Solo, this is slow going. But the supplies are shared loot off of kills in a party, so you can easily steamroll the camps with AoE and everyone in the party can quickly stock up. Pull everything in sight and you can easily get 10-15 per pack of mobs each. They also drop lesser charms pretty often. Latent Kor'kron armor will also drop from normal mobs--in 30 mins of AoE farming, a pair of us picked up four pieces.

2) Killing the Kor'kron Commanders. Great drop rate (~10-40 of each), but will need sufficient numbers and possibly a healer or two. The worst ones will have a heavy hitting attack that will also toss you up in the air for fall damage. And a raining blades raid damage attack which is interruptible. Possible to corpse run these bosses, but some of the graveyards are in really distant or annoying locations (back side of a huge hill, for instance).

3) Protecting the caravans. Easily done with 1-2 people and really simple if you catch them early. Can be a pain if you arrive late and no one has thinned out the swarms of Kor'kron Raiders that have spawned over time. As you travel with the caravan, you get a stacking buff that determines how much supplies you get at the end in your Surplus Supplies. At 10 stacks, it can be as much as defeating a commander. The Raiders will carry supplies also.

4) Scavenging the Overturned Kor'kron Shipments. A zone announcement will go out, and the location of the shipment will be marked on your map. Three wagons will have overturned, scattering ~15-20 boxes of supplies per wagon, each with 1-2 supplies each (~80 supplies in total). The shipments will despawn after several minutes. The Competition can be cutthroat for these and it may not be worth chasing one down unless it spawns extremely close to you or the server isn't as busy.

The followup to this is Battlefield: Barrens, a weekly where you collect 150 of each for 200VP.

Druids can stay in flight form. hover over to spot the glimmer, then swoop down grab it, and fly away because you will have something hitting.

This can get boring, but it takes less time...your choice.

Just did this today on my Guardian Druid; very easy for him but he is 486 and easily soloes IoT rares. That daily for 200 valor looks a real gift, if it's no harder!

Since this area is VERY bugged right now, I started collecting some data on the caravans (overturned and escorted) since they are the most efficient way to collect the resources needed for the weekly quest.

The commanders are also an efficient way but require a group of 4-5 minimum. Yes, I've heard the boasts from DKs and Druids that they solo'd them and I give them a hearty pat on the back. Since it takes about 5-10 minutes for a group of 5 to kill one, I don't suggest soloing them. The good news is they are NOT faction tagged and you do not have to be in a group to loot the resources. Just hang out by one for a few minutes, maybe say something in general chat and people will come. Everyone, Horde and Alliance alike, that damage the commander will get credit and be able to loot the corpse.

I would like to point out that the following information is from my Horde toon. If you have similar data from an Alliance toon or any additional info or corrections, please contact me so I can add it rather than downvote me, I'm just trying to help :)

I'm sure there are more, and I will update this as I find them. Please note the coords are rounded off but the carts and their contents are strewn over a fair size area and you will easily be able to see them if they are there. Unfortunately there are alot of false announcements you will see so the carts may not be there. Someone on my server was talking about this being a cross-realm bug. I can neither confirm nor deny this but it makes sense to me.

The overturned carts despawn after a certain amount of time. I have not accurately timed this but it seems like 3-5 minutes. They also despawn after EVERY crate has been picked up. If you get to one early and they have not despawned after you think you picked up every crate, look more carefully. Some crates are often partialy embedded in the carts and/or surrounding terrain.

Here is a map of the Horde caravans that need to be escorted. They begin at the tail of the arrow and end at the point. I'm sure there are more and will add them as I find them.

The longer you escort a caravan, the more resources you will gain at the end. There is a buff that indicates how long you've escorted it.

While escorting the caravan they will be attacked by marauders riding wolves. If you kill the rider first, the wolf will despawn and you will get 1-2 lumber when you loot the rider's corpse. If you kill the wolf first you will be able to loot the wolf for 1-2 meat and the rider will continue attacking until dead at which point you will still be able to loot the lumber. I recommend if you are alone just target the riders so you don't end up with too many to handle. If there is anyone else escorting and you need meat, I recommend targeting the wolf since most people don't.

You can also target the opposing faction's caravans and kill them for alot of resources as well, however they are not announced when they spawn so you will have to be lucky enough to stumble on one and have it not being escorted by the opposing faction, in which case you will likely wind up dead and gain no resources.
