A somewhat annoying daily as the gryphons throughout the area enjoyed using their dismounting Storm Bolt to knock me off my mount into crowds of mobs.

Just to clarify, the sentry wards are located at various locations and you simply need to click them to satisfy the quest goals.

The Town Hall is the western-most building with the tower. The sentry ward is located just on the lower floor in front of you as you enter the building.
The Barracks is the four-towered building just north of the docks. As the quest dialogue indicates, you'll need to fight your way to the second floor to get to the ward.
The sentry ward is located on the small platform between the two docked ships.

I found it best to approach the various buildings from the coast as the gryphons don't reach out far into the waters and that saves you the inexorable ordeal of being dismounted. And of course, fly low throughout the area as you will get dismounted quite frequently and you don't want to go splat.

The items to click on are semi-transparent. I didn't notice them at first glance. Look harder.

This quest (and what we are activating) is a reference to the warcraft 3 ability used by Troll Witch Doctors. The ability created an invisible ward that granted vision and detection of invisible units for 10 minutes.

Considering Vol'Jin was a Witch Doctor in Warcraft 3, I wonder who this troll... friend, could be... hmm...

After I read some of you are getting dismounted I decided to post this.

When approaching the Alliance base, I recommend flying really close to the ground. This way, you don't get Bolted by the gryphon riders and dont really aggro the guards, only aggro'ing those you really need.

There is an underwater ramp at Lions Landing. It takes you right up on the docks. It is on the right side, by the cannons.

If you are smart, you want to skip this quest. It's too much trouble for 196 rep..... So Skip it and do something more productive. The rep isn't rewarding enough to waste 20min on it.

Agree, skip this one, shame we can't rank quests as fun, interesting, hard, dull, tiresome and anooying.

I actually dropped this quest the first time I got it. But when it was 'reissued' I went to youtube and found this lovely vid by John Coner called 'WoW MoP quest - Sentry Wards' followed it, didn't die and quest done.

Place Sentry Wards on the Docks, in the Town Hall, and on the Second Floor of the Barracks at Lion's Landing.

Description

We've spotted heavy air support over their base, in the form of way too many dwarves on way too many griffons. Means we can't get any vision of the area from above. A troll... friend of mine gave us a set of Sentry Wards, which we can use to spy on their base and get a vantage point on what's going on in there. Bad news, friend - you're going to be the one going in there.
