The mobs you are looking for aren't that much bigger than the other Mantids so they can be hard to spot. They usually patrol around in a pack of three. One big guy (your target) and two smaller ones. You can use one of your Wu Kao Dart of Lethargy to incapacitate one of the small ones. After that just make sure you have a safe place to pull the big one.

The Sra'thik Swarmlords do not count for this quest (I suspected as such but wanted to test it).

There are many elites in this area, and all are objectives of separate quests, however this quest only has four targets: Sra'thik Will-Breakers, Sra'thik Deathmixers, Sra'thik Swarm-Leaders and Sra'thik Vessguards.

Copy this into a macro to help you find them more easily, while also preventing you from being dismounted while flying around the feeding pit (if Friends, Not Food! is up):

Waste of time this quest hardly any round and with a dozen people doing these dialies it takes 20-40min esp where there often 2-3 evade bugged.

This is a pretty awful quest. At least it is on a high population realm. The elites are pretty rare, they have a tendency to evade bug, and kill credit isn't sharable unlike 99% of the elites in Pandaria.

The best way to do this quest is to be a jerkface. Get you and 4 other people to stand on a known spawn (a good one is at the bottom of the ramp just below where the Sra'thik Swarmlord spawns) and spam AoEs and pray one of the other six groups doing the exact same thing doesn't get the tag. Even this method will take a while. They seem to spawn roughly around 3 to 5 minutes after they die.

There spawns a Sra'thik Will-Breaker every 1 minute. Carefull with his Break Will , with 5 stacks you get feared, just run 10 yards away. ( and Will of the Forsaken does not work, op fear!)

To echo previous posters, this quest is a pain in the proverbial buttocks. With evading mobs, randomly vanishing helpers, and a low spawn rate this quest is especially nasty for anyone without a tank spec.

The easiest way I found to do this as a non-tank character who can't afford to have a whole pack descend on you at once was to set up camp at 19,39.

I clear the surrounding lesser mantids and there is a Deathmixer that pats by here. I cc one of his sidekicks (In order of preference- regenerator > drone > cacophyte > any others) and then engage and kill. He seems to respawn fairly quickly and it takes me about 15 minutes to get all four. This is about the only spot on the island where I can get my back to the ocean, not worry about Taoshi pulling others around, and have room to dance around his mantid mines.

The Deathmixer is one of the easiest to deal with because he does not have any crazy fears, silences, or aerial raids- you simply need to move around his mines like most of the mantid dungeons require.

I recommend doing this either when (a) it's an off-peak time and you're not competing for him or (b) grouping up with people and doing it to ensure you all get credit.

Sra'vess Island is now a more pleasant questing destination. The roads are less crowded, and all players battling elite Mantid will now be awarded credit for the kill.

From the October 19th hotfixes, this change came not a moment to soon! (rather a few moments late)

I find myself watching to see if others of the same faction are going to win these fights, and if they are not waiting around and stealing it afterwards.

I hate playing like this just to spend less time on something that should be a lot quicker.

Spent almost an hour trying to get a tag. Never got even one. Dropping quest and not gonna try this one again. Not fun. Probably I just don't know my class well, but it seems some classes with aoe "pulls" have a distinct advantage here.

Quite possibly the most annoying quest ever.

If you're squishy and you take a moment to set up the stuns someone will swoop in and tab the mob.

Can't blame them for that, but it's simply suicide to try take them without the setup first.

An exercise in frustration.

This way is slow, but safe and less stressful. The way I found is to take these guys out is to farm by the lake at (22,52). You need some decent gear so this isn't really a good idea till you have some heroic dungon stuff.

Basically a Swam-leader would come around (22,51), pull him in the lake, take out the two adds then the big guy. When he does his "Calling in Air support" it will hit the bottom of the lake and the aoe won't hit you as long as your at the deepest part. The re-spawn is fairly fast.

The catch is that your companion is de-spawned in the lake (hence the need for good gear). But even if you pull the adds that fear you, the water prevents you from running to far away into other adds. Kitting works really well here too.

If you must have your companion the edge of the lake is good around (21,50) Just clean those two adds standing by the tree.

This is slow, but by far the LEAST frustrating method I have found. You can also get the two achievements this way without fearing into any blasted adds:P

This quest is just as annoying for low population servers. There's too many other mobs around and I find myself being attacked by 6 or 7 at the same time. Especially when I get feared into groups of mobs.

The mobs no longer seem to be tagged, and behave like "!" quest mobs, so if you see someone else killing one, hop in to help and you'll also get credit.

This quest has it all!

Low spawn rates for relevant mobs.
High spawn rates for irrelevant mobs.
Relevant mobs surrounded by irrelevant mobs you must fight.
Mobs with fear abilities that send you running into other packs of mobs.

And my personal favorite:

Evade bugging.

Also take note that the elite that you were really hoping would count towards this quest - Ravenous Kunchong - doesn't, because screw you, Love, Blizzard.

In fairness to Blizzard they do give some items to help you on this quest (which i suspect most aren't using).

I made sure to use Wu Kao Dart of Lethargy to cc one add with the elite. And since i'm a mage I can sheep another. That allowed me to down the one elite by itself as long as I picked a good area.

Also, you have this other quest at the same time which allows you to count the adds as useful kills.

The thing that's harder to forgive Blizzard for are all the bugs. Particularly where you never know if you are going to be in stealth or not as it seems to randomly break.

the elites themselves arent hard to kill solo but the problem is no matter where you pull them too you end up with 6+ mobs every time and they heal the elite over and over.did 40k dps on him and couldnt kill him cause of the healing.this quest blizzard obviously didnt give much thought to...i mean seriously..and its not a boss type reward either...the bosses are easier than this quest.cmon blizz did you even attempt this quest before implementing it into the game?

I found that killing the Sra'thik Deathmixer are the easiest, they usually pat with only 2 adds and a couple can be easily pulled off the path around 23, 51

There is a pack of three mobs, including an elite Sra'thik Vessguard (for the quest), a Sra'thik Regenerator and a Sra'thik Mutilator, that respawns every 1-2 minutes after a kill and patrols the road at 20.00, 47.50.

Not only is this area of the road clear of adds that might unintentionally be pulled while in combat, but if you have the ability to kite (or bring Hawkmaster Nurong to slow them with traps), you can kite the Sra'thik Vessguard and his two guards around and pick them off easily.

After you finish a pack, you can med up just in time for the respawn to be ambling down the road towards you.

I found when doing this quest, It was easier to kill them at this location>>>24.49<<< Just directly East of the little pond/lake SRA'VESS. I just waited for the quest add to "walk" by and I began to attack, These mobs ( 2 + the elite) will run to your location with out pulling anything else in the area, as there is nothing else in that area, And you may keep killing the same one over and over four times, To complete the daily quest.

warlord and amgyn are correct. set up at the lake shore and clear the mobs. target one of the two minor sra'thiks that accompany the major sra'thik. pull all into the lake. your assistant may disappear. kill the minors first, then the major.

i wiped 5 times, before trying this and then ran through 3 straight major/minor groups without wiping/repairing. it is a far more difficult daily than 99% of the others and deserves more reward than a pat on the buttocks.

Well, good news for all the complainers, mobs seem to have been made much ezier recently (perhaps a patch addressed) and had no problem as Ret Pally with 455 gear taking down the elite and associates (repentenced one minor fellow first as precaution). Cleared out one remaining minor first, big guy didn't appear to do much damage.

I did use Revelens 20.47 mobs to begin.

I found this quest much easier today, having done it a few times now. My method (this is on a MM Hunter) is to Freezing Trap the Vessguard, take the other two out, then hit the elite with Widow Venom and he goes down much quicker.

First thing you should do is dismiss your stupid companion. IMHO only tanks, healers and maybe the ice mage can help you out with the Shao Pan quests, but not the Rogues and Hunters. They tend to make things worse by pulling other mobs etc and do not seem to add good dps.

Second, go to 23/49, there is patrol of those minelayer guys coming through every other minute. Those are by far easier than the elite that can fear you. At the location, you have enough space to back down and evade the mines slowly. There is only one patrolling mob at that area, you should take out that one it will respawn far more slow than the elite one.

Finally during the pull, I had the best results with CCing the elite mob (i.e. putting Entangling Roots on him). Than I can finish off the two adds right in time for the elite to attack me. It's quite easy and the next patrol will show up seconds later after you finish that fight. Do this 4 times and this quest is finished and the Sra'vess Wetwork is nearly done.

Though I agree with all the other comments about how teribad these dailies are, I have found a way to cope. First accept the quest and get your bag of goodies. Then, choose Hawkmaster Nurong as your companion. Fly to 25,54, to the end of the bridge where the Kzzok Warcamp is set up, and clear the mobs around the wagons. Stealth, use your poison on the elite coming up the path, and kill his buddies first then make waste of the elite. Fly off and complete another quest while you wait for respawn, rinse and repeat. You should have killed enough mobs to complete the accompanying quest.

I'm not sure where people are going for these guys.
Biggest pita about this is waiting on the 1min respawn 4 times (may not even be that long).
I take out the Sra'thik Vessguard at 19,46. He spawns with one Mutilator and one Regenerator and nothing else around him.

There is a lake at 21,52 with a couple of the elites walking around. Go to the middle of the lake and pull the elte (along with his attendants). Great way to avoid additional adds.

20 52 is a good spot for the Deathmixer. As another poster commented, getting down by the lake is a good idea. Also, important to kill the Regenerators first since they are the healers. This spot allowed me to kill the same guy four times. The last time was without any companions, because I guess I had killed them all already. hehehe. Get out of the spewing vomit (or whatever it's called) and run away from the bombs. I also found that 'my little helper' NPC was of little value. In fact, I think he was causing me to keep fading into Stealth mode which then caused the elite to evade my attacks. So, I dismissed him.

My strategy:
a) Make sure you take out any trash that might aggro at the spot you're gonna fight
b) CC the elite
c) take out the two regular mobs
d) take the elite down easily

rinse and repeat!

As many people experience problems with this quest and believe that is difficult. The quest is more stragical than difficult. The best thing you have to do (even if you are rogue) is NOT to forget the bag which the quest giver provides next to her. Is a small bag which contains vital items to make the elite go down much more easily. Take the item, go the elites and wait for the correct timing. Incapacitate the mobs and get them down.

All the elites seem to have intended assassination spots. Unless you're on a realm with heavy competition it pays to watch them a bit and look for places with holes in the guard cover of their paths.

I found the best location to be at (25,48), and pulling the Deathmixers off of the road. Use your first attack as a pull, and then try to crowd-control one of the non-elite mobs. Quickly kill the non-elite that you don't have CC'd, and then move onto the Deathmixer. If you work quickly, you can finish off the elite before the CC wears off.

I think I finally figured this one out...after many times dying, and many times more after that dumping this quest I found a spot. If you look at the quest map (the small map in the quest description) , you will see a Blue (almost) circle area surrounding the yellow quest number in the center. At roughly 7 O'clock on the dial (S by SW from yellow number) thre is a tower with a vertical light beam. Park yourself over the beam and look down to the road. (to the right of the tower) A quest elite with two escorts will appear every few minutes with NO ADDS in the surrounding area. I have completed this the last five times this way. Edit There are three adds directly north of the tower base…attack either further north or south to stay clear.

Pain in the proverbial buttocks? Hardly. More like having something violently shoved into a sensitive area at the speed of an expensive sports car, then pulled out in the wrong orientation.

I think quests like these are a good indication of how not only Blizzard, but the entire game industry in general, forgets that people who play videogames generally do so with one real goal in mind. And that goal is not to prove how "leet" they think they are (unless they really are tossers, but that is neither here nor there). No, it is to enjoy oneself. To get oneself a distraction from the drudgery, annoyance, and general ill-feeling that is often received from elsewhere (I am an autistic thirty-something whom doctors think may also have borderline personality disorder, so understand my full meaning with that statement).

This quest proves to me beyond a shadow of a doubt that not only do Blizzard not give a damn if their product is actually enjoyable beyond a group dynamic level, they revel in making the player repeat chore-like actions day after day in order to advance. Sure, no RPG can keep an audience for long without the players being able to improve their skills or equipment. But you know how other RPGs that I would rather be playing now managed this trick, Blizzard? They integrated such progression right into the main thread of the plot. History is replete with examples of such games, of which Eye Of The Beholder and its immediate sequel are my favourite examples (Severious... mmmm).

This quest, and Sra'vess in general, generally say one thing to me as a paying player. And that something is basically, "@*!% you". It is one thing to design daily quests where one has to kill Elite enemies. It is another thing entirely to make these quests and every thing on the island where it takes place impossible to complete without corpse-crawling. I cannot even imagine Hunters with their built-in tanks getting this quest done without at least a few deaths. The density of the mobs basically means the only way to progress in the quest means clearing out and periodically hacking down a wide area of mobs, and then waiting for the target to stroll by. Do the morons who play test this thing call this fun? I sure as hell do not. Oh, and the random despawning of your flying mount over parts of the map is certainly a nice touch, too. Seriously.

I thought the Golden Lotus faction and dailies illustrated a deep contempt of the user on Blizzard's part. Looks like I was wrong. I will not repeat some of the hyperbolic statements concerning what the success of this game means in terms of the health or worthiness of the industry, but between this and the Quicktime events of Resident Evil 4, I am starting to believe my hatred of today's videogame industry is actually mutual.

Has this gotten harder with the patch or am I just having a (verrrrrry) off day today? Elites are even more of a pain in the buttocks than usually, and on top of that suddenly mobs see me despite the shado pan stealth etc. Needless to say, I still bloody hate this quest.

In line with many of the existing posts on this item, this quest is an exercise in assassination as much as anything else. The trick is to pick your target & then (carefully) pick the location for your attack.

My Retro Pally of only average (341K) health got roasted trying this as a straight 'beat 'em up' 1st time round. Then a visit here & a bit of time spent scouting the killing ground paid off.

There are 2 prime locations & targets in the NE & SW of the catchment area (on the tracks leading down from the hills). No mobs around to agro, so just the elite & 2 goons to deal with.
As posted previously use the poison barb to immobilize the Regenerator, then target the elite & hit it with everything you got. Your buddy will help with the Mutilator take down. You may still need to drop the awakened Mantid at the end but this is no problem.

Second time I did this quest there was no visit to the graveyard. In the end much easier than 'Beneath the Heart of Fear'. It can take about 10-15 mins elapsed playing time, due to re-spawn periods, but once mastered this is no longer such a pain in the **** quest it was originally, just a time consuming one.

REMEMBER FOLKS - Look at the surrounding area before wading in. Consider it a covert operation. I'm sure the 'pull 'em into the lake scenario works as well, but haven't tried that approach yet. Happy hunting, hope this helps.

Whoops! Need to add to yesterday's post about this quest following a re-run of this daily.

Blizzard..! Sort your s**t out please. Either you give us the tools for the job or you re-jig this quest somehow. Today, no 'goody bag' from the Quest giver &, (as others have commented) the Shado Pan assistant kept either disappearing or losing stealth & attracting mobs. Made this another expensive & time consuming challenge. Just as I thought I had it all sussed.

If everything is as it should be my previous post is still valid.

After reading the comments here I carefully picked a location, ensured stealth and companion, then incapacitated the regenerator. It was much easier. Thanks for all the information :)

Additionally: I polymorph one of the lesser two and lead the other and elite a little away. When the polymorph wears off, he wanders away rather than joining the fight. Much easier!

For what it's worth my advice is; having reached 'Revered' status with Shado Pan, switch your attention to August Celestials dailies if not already doing them. Always check on the quests available in Townlong Steppes as the other 2 (Shanze Dao & the Fire Camp Ozil) are pitched at the correct level for normal character stats. That is, challenging but not infuriating. Otherwise this place is a time consuming & frustrating place especially for melee players, there is no guarantee that helpers & stealth work as they should. Companions consistently de-stealth & attract mobs which seems to put you into combat mode by association, so you're stuffed.

I'm afraid that the p*****g about required on Sra'Vess to accomplish any of the quests (beyond killing 15 weaker mantid & destroying the siege engines) is simply too painful & slow (& expensive).
If you are desperate for the Valor points then do the few Challengers Ring quests (1 of them is quite tough but the others I have found not so bad. Fish as well - 3 rare fish turned in to Nat Pagle at the Anglers Wharf yield 5 points apiece. Archeology can also net you 5 points a day.

You will need to attempt (& hopefully accomplish) some of these quests on the island, but as mentioned once you are 'Revered' there's no real need to put yourself through the agony of this rubbish anymore.

First of all; yes, this quest is awful. However, it's part of the super annoying shado-pan rep grind, so some of us get to deal with it.

For any self-healers, don't pick hawkmaster Nurong as your companion... If you get down to 10% health or so, he'll feign death you which could mean you lose the elite you've almost killed, which SUCKS. Another important thing to note about these companions is that A) they do actually help. At least I think so... B) they are buggy as can be. Most notable bug for me is that they can aggro mobs while flying, so be careful that you fly high enough not to pull, or you're in for a nasty surprise when you land.

Companions and overall garbage quest aside, there's really 2 ways I've found to get this done. Option A is brute force, where you just pull an elite and his little friends to a blank area and beat the snot out of them until they die, and then proceed to repeat this method until quest is done. If you can do this without multiple deaths, good for you. Option B, the one I've been going with (because corpse crawling gets real old, real fast) is to pick out a nice empty area where the elites walk past and creep up behind the big guy. Use the fancy darts you were given at the start of the quest to knock out the elite, then back up and pull his entourage. You've got a minute from here to kill the 2 little guys and get your health back up, at which point you attack the boss and knock him down without the added annoyance of his little friends.

Straightforward enough from there; deathmixers throw bombs, which go off if you continue to stand too close to them (just run around when you see the bombs), will-breakers silence you, which is irritating, but overall shouldn't kill you.

Here's my, contrary, experience of this Q..

I only recently dinged 90 so my gear isn't great (iLvl 491 - almost all from Timeless Isle). I'm a combat rogue with no great player skills (I'm kind of a faceroller but I am patient).

I just landed near a patting elite, stealthed, hit Ambush and then killing spree (it's got a 2 min CD hence the patience bit) and eh voila..the elite was down, along with the rest of the mobs it pats with and most of the adds. It really isn't - at least not as a combat rogue so I can only conclude that it's changed, been nerfed maybe?

Oh, and FWIW my Shado-Pan companion was Taoshi - she puts a nice +15% debuff on the mob you're fighting.

In conclusion, don't be put off by the comments here, they're at least a year old and things, gear, mobs, have changed.

2023 and I wonder who made this quest 10 years ago.

Companions are the most buggy and useless mess that blizzard cobbled together, we know you have the technology to make these companions better, yet no fixes. They don't stealth when they land on the island which makes sapping as a rogue so hard bc I have 1 second to sap them in range or all the mobs are aggroed.

Nurong is powerful but he pretty much aggros everything around him, even the mobs that I INTENTIONALLY sapped for good reason. He also disengaged off a cliff, and me thinking nothing will go wrong, shadow stepped into terrain, "suffocating" myself and disconnecting me constantly, forcing me to use the Character Unstuck service.

These elite mobs should hit like a truck, yes, but not the trash, they HURT so bad for regular mobs.

all of this effort for an exalted hat that probably will only transmog to each armour type which I have to regrind and do this long dance again.

Get a helper. Find a Sra'thik Deathmixer that has only two sidekicks.
And if it takes a while, you can recover and hit the same one again. And again, lol.
I "hid" my alt at /way 18.15 40.06. No pathers or respawns while she healed and prepared for another round.

Description

Killing the smaller mantid works mostly as a distraction. It forces them to replenish their numbers before they consider any serious offensive. The big ones, though - we kill a few of those, and we really disrupt operations on the island. That buys ourselves a substantial amount of time. With mantid, it's like their size is directly proportional to their importance in the empire. So kill some of the big ones for me, while you're out there.
