Be Careful in this area because when you mount you get surrounded by little bugs that dismount you and it can easily drop you into mobs or to your death

I had flight when I took this quest. You can see the little cartoon bubble where the NPC is located. As I came in, I got knocked out of the sky. I did not position myself right over him and wish I had. He has an elite patrolling back and forth in the area and several guards.

My mistake was that I did not check to see if my minion was activated (bad warlock!)

You should be able to take two of the guards, but beware. They vomit amber. Once they start, run through or behind them. The don't move position once they start the barrage. If you are a mage with cc, 'lock with fear, rogue with sap, etc, use that on one of them and keep an eye for the big elite.

Since I was stuck (I kept dying and had no way to summon the minion or fly out), I put some armor potions an alchemist friend gave me (he had no idea armor potions were for tanks) on my action bar. I rezzed, popped a 25 second armor potion, and finished my conversation with the NPC, who flew out on a kite. I had just enough time to do that before being mowed down. Since I was ill prepared and had no minion, I rezzed at the graveyard. The armor bill made me cry and I had to drop out of the dungeon queue. Don't be a dummy, like me.

I don't want to talk about my repair bill. Jeeves and I are not on speaking terms.

So: tl;dr. Be ready. Have your minion or pet ready. Potions, healthstones, whatever, on your action bar. Make sure you've not blown your cooldowns. I'd love to read any successful blow by blow accounts, because I'll be doing this on my mage next.

He's bugged sometimes. The chat bubble appears on the minimap, but the NPC is nowhere to be found.

He's meant to be at 17 57 and with your map open you can see his chat bubble and it appears on the mini map but when you close the map the chat bubble disappears and there is no NPC in sight. I guess it's bugged :(

edit: 5.1 seems to have finally fixed this

You can repeatedly click off the swarming insects 'buff' and stay mounted

for some reason i couldn't find the npc that we must search and thought that by retaking the quest would fix it...but i can't see the quest giver now.... :-/ someone help me

What's the name of the NPC that you are looking for in the quest?

Just a heads-up, this quest doesn't give any Shado-Pan rep even though it's given at the Shado-Pan Garrison. Given the annoyance of being dismounted in an area with elite patrols, you might not want to bother unless you want to see the very short RP at the end or need the 19g 84s 50c you get from its completion.

you may be in a different phase which is preventing you from seeing certain NPC's or quest items. I've included a list of quick fixes that may help resolve this issue.

1) Change zones. Sometimes changing zones will reset your phase and could fix the issue.
2) Log out and back in. Shut the game down entirely. This may also reset your phase.
3) Try completing any other quests that you may have in Pandaria. Sometimes when you start a phased quest and do not complete it, you will be stuck in the phase of that quest. Completing them should reset your phase.

I have found the solution!

During the daily Shado-Pan quest Friends, Not Food! you are tasked with helping three Trainees out of the Kunchong feeding pits Ku-Yao (Ku-Mo's father) is in. He finally spawned perfectly fine for me when I flew to his spot while doing this daily after many days of no-showing and I was finally able to hand him one of the escape kites that was intended for the Trainees giving me quest credit.

So, yeah. Apparently it is meant to be phased and you're only meant to get the quest while on this daily or something of that accord.

He was finally visible for me once I hit revered with Golden Lotus and picked up first bunch of Shado-Pan dailies.

Seems like maybe he's phased until then.

Completing this at 90 (and presumably any lower level) does NOT award 141 gold, as currently displayed on Wowhead. I received 19g 84s 50c.

i droped this quest and now i cant find Ku-Mo to ppick it back up. i sent days looking for it and a few more on web sites for info. i asked blizz but all they told me was they dont give out game cheats and to look eles were. thats a lot of help. if anyone can help me thansk in advance

I could not see the NCP nor turn in the quest until after I became revered with Golden Lotus. Maybe a bug, but it seems like I got the quest before I should have.

Kind of funny when you turn in quest the text "<Ku-Mo doesn't seem to notice you.> " Yet you get gold...

It is absolutely possible to get and complete this quest without having unlocked Shado-Pan dailies. I haven't unlocked them yet, but lo and behold flying over the Garrison there the kid was waiting to give me a quest. I asked around and it turns out the daily people are mentioning was available, but obviously I couldn't get it. A few friends of mine were also able to get the quest without having to unlock the dailies. We all did the quest and handed it in.

As of 5.1 Swarming Insects is a debuff and can't be dispelled. Of course, the NPC still isn't there.

Did anyone find out if you can start the quest if you abandoned it already? because i abandoned it and look everywhere on the steppes, but still cant find the quest started. I've reloaded my game at least 3 times. Is anyone having the same problem?

I just got this quest today, couldn't find Sentinel Ku Yao, so i tried logging out, exiting game, changing zones, i even handed in the quest for freeing the 3 sentinels from the feeding pits. So, i go back to the quest giver (Ku Mo) and stand right in front of him, i abandon the quest with the intent of picking it up again and the little bugger just despawns whilst i stare helplessly at him.

My advice, if you get this quest, don't bother with it, you'll only waste 15 mins of your day like i did.

This quest appears to be bugged. After giving him the kite, he swam through the air instead of using the kite. Quite the enjoyable bug :)

Probably a bug, but when I "rescued" him, the news of his son being lonely gave him the strength to break his bonds, instantly regenerate to full health and then break the laws of physics by jumping fifty feet into the air and swam back towards the monastery.

Ku-Mo only shows up to offer this quest periodically.

The requirements for him to appear are: 1) Ling of the Six Pools is offering his dailies and 2) that one of his dailies is Friends, Not Food! (the alternative quest he offers is Destroy the Siege Weapons! -he will offer one of these 2 in addition to his other dailies). It is not actually necessary to check which quests are being offered, if you see Ling is offering dailies, you will also be able to see if Ku-Mo is up as he is very close by (to the right in the target practice by Taoshi).

You do not have to pickup the quest, its only listed to show the requirements for Ku-Mo to appear.

Description

I've searched everywhere... but I haven't found my father. I KNOW he's alive still. He just needs his crossbow... then he'll be OK.

I've heard that you Shado-Pan guys sometimes fight the mantid on Sra'vess. I don't have any way of getting there. If you ever go over there, can you look for my dad?
