The rafts seemed very buggy--disappear, can't board them yada yada, but I found that you can just go to the place and kill the mobs normally w/o a raft or the bombs. I also found the bombs a bit difficult to use.

The bombs OHKO the rays, so it's a lot faster killing them if you have good aim. They are always thrown in front of you a little ways, so just stand back and throw.

And just today I noticed if you jump while on the raft, it speeds up.

The raft is on the dock (67.44, 44.76) next to the quest giver and if it "sinks" then you can swim back up and jump it the air and it will appear under you on the surface.
Jumping whilst going forward makes it go faster the same as all other rafts.

Using the bomb throws a bomb out of the front (does not aim) and you can simply take the raft over the top of the (dead) Sting Ray to loot it.

I got all 3 stingers from one Sting Ray and was immediately jumped by a Cobalt Hammerhead - mind those ;)

If you have a pet I found it easy to send your pet in to stop the ray from moving, then step back on the beach and just chuck a bomb at the ray.. instant kill. You may have to move forward or back a bit to re-adjust but once it hits the ray .. poof.. he dead.

You need to be standing on something, not swimming, in order to throw the bombs.

If you are having trouble getting the bombs to work, you can also just kill the sting rays with your own abilities.

To confirm, click on the raft at the end of the dock. If you fall through, don't worry. Look to see if you have the "rafting" buff and jump in the water and the raft should appear. It does get buggy.

Killing the stingray I found to be very difficult without the bombs. I just set a hotkey with the bombs on my bar and rafted around throwing the bombs. Sometimes the looting is buggy too so just be patient. Dismount the raft and you should be able to loot just fine.

And yes, watch for sharks.

Some years ago, when I was scuba diving regularly, I took a trip to Grand Cayman Island, one of the better diving destinations of the world. We had a Japanese Fellow who was a PADI divemaster. He was showing off his skills, maintaining bouyancy at the 15 foot mark by holding his breath - and, well, best guess is that a wave went over and popped a weak spot in his lungs while he was almost completely inflated. We managed to keep him alive (me and a registered nurse who was on the boat) - he was almost completely non-responsive until I turned the O2 up until he had about 100%.

Well, they owed us a dive but no one wanted to go deep, so they took us to "sting ray city". Flat water, 15 foot depth, sandy bottom. The local fishermen would anchor there, clean their catch, throw the waste into the water. The stingrays that lived there learned that boat motors meant food. Then some divers started going in there and now the stingrays believe that boat motors mean divers who will be carrying food for them. Completely non-aggressive, we got a lecture about how the stingrays would be all over you and when to back off - the stingrays raise their tails and show their barbs when they are aggressive.

My point is that I think the artists have been there - if you get in the water and fight one of these million hit point stingrays rather than bombing it, it gets up on you (which reflects the central mouth location) and, well, the impresion I got was just as if I were in the water with the stingrays in sting ray city. Once again, the art in Pandaria is first class.

Ok. I was screwing this up for a while. I read the tooltip and thought you just spammed it waiting for something to happen. Once you get on the raft and paddle over to the area, what you have to do is raft around until a ray is about 5-10 raft lengths pretty much directly ahead of you, then throw the bomb and hit the fish with it.

There's no explosion or anything, just a splash. It seems that "Goblin bombing" is just a fancy term for "throwing rocks at it." Typical Goblin engineering.

If you get tired of tossing bombs and not hitting anything like I did, you can just jump in the water and attack the Stingrays as well, and they'll still drop stingers. They've got quite a few HP, so it might take a little while, but you can skip the bombing all together.

If you click very fast, you can throw TWO BOMBS at once (per cooldown), giving you better odds of hitting something.

The raft kept disappearing on me until I stopped clicking on the little cogwheels before I got on it; I was clicking while still standing on the dock. I tried walking onto the raft first, then clicked, and it didn't disappear again.

Something I've noticed is that I've only been able to kill the ones that break the surface. You'll notice that some never come to the surface. These I have hit dead on numerous times and they don't seem to die. Only the ones where you can see their backs break the surfce of the water and the bomb only has to be close.

About the rafts and looting the stingers. If you've ever been under a waterwalking spell, it should be familiar. For example, if you're a hunter and are used to the water strider pet spell for waterwalking, then it works the same way. It depends on your camera angle. If your camera is pointed down, or if you are oriented downward and try to move forward, the raft will disappear and you will fall into the water and can loot the stingers. Once you have done this, orient your camera more or less level with the water and then just JUMP back up to the surface. BOOM, you're back on the raft.

If you have a Logitech or any programmable keyboard, you can bind a macro key to hit 1 a bunch of times with one press. I was throwing 20 bombs at once, that Stingray never knew what hit it.

This quest can be a bit of a pain since you can not directly aim at where you want the bombs to land.

A few tips:

- You do NOT need to be on a raft you can throw them while on the ground or while swimming (as long as you are not under water).
- You can throw them while using levitate if you are a priest (makes it a bit easier)
- You can throw multiple bombs at a time (2-3) by quickly clicking the button to throw them before the cd starts.

Similar to the "use a pet" strategy, priests can pull 3 rays and use Void Tendrils to hold them in place, then just run out to range to bomb. Works like a charm!

If you go after them when they are floating on top of the water it seems to hit right away. Finished in a couple minutes.

If you are already Revered with The Anglers and have Angler's Fishing Raft, you can ignore using the goblin's raft; just fly over to the stingrays and use your own raft.

You can Jump (out of the water) and throw the bomb.

I have a spot on a bar that is key-bound. I drop quest items on that key. (obvious for long term players but some newer players might have thought about it) I use X as the key but that one does unbind the something (that i think i turned to alt-x). Hit space and an instant later hit x in this case.

I could not throw the bomb while swimming with my head out of the water.

If you keybind the bombs to your mouse-wheel (up/down) you can throw multiple bombs at once and thus get bigger aoe. Fastest way to do the quest is by flying over to the sting rays and spam bombs while on land or when swimming. Jump to throw bombs while swimming.

If you are a monk and can fly in Pandaria, use zen flying just over the water and bomb away. Much easier and faster than the raft.

I have read every comment here and I still do not get it. I threw dozens and dozens of bombs. Not one of them did anything. I moved. I aimed. I sent in my pet to immobilize the ray. Nothing had the slightest effect. I finally just swam out and killed it with my weapons.

Don't worry about the bombs or the raft: just go kill three of the rays, loot and turn in quest.

Patch 6.0.2 seems to have broken this daily. The sting rays' tooltips no longer show that they can drop the quest item. Throwing bombs at them does not kill them. And if you try to just fight them, they die easily but drop no loot.

The quest is now working. You just have to be careful of the sharks, otherwise they will make the raft disappear.

As of12/16/2015 1:23PM Central time the quest is still not working I am throwing bombs in water but nothing comes back out. Is this happening to anyone else or is it just me?

I finished this quest today. It doesn't work without the raft. Make sure you get on the small raft right by the quest giver.

The quest is ok again. Just don't try to bomb them at the ship wreck, i found them at 58.2/51.03, got them in less then 10 throws. And also you cn't collec just by passing over them you have to loot.

looks like it's bugged: mouse over raft & get tool tip, click on raft, it disappears and you jump into the water. Wait a bit. The raft reappears and repeat the process. As a BM went over there and just south of the pet tamer on the beach, there are plenty swimming close to shore. Attacking them with pet and weapon takes much longer than lobbing bombs at them.

On Remix, the bombs do nothing to the sting rays at all. I resorted to killing them manually instead. Takes longer, but guaranteed less frustration.

Turns out these rays are not as easy to catch as I thought! You seem like a pretty smart <guy/gal>, think you can help me out?

I made the bombs but have been having trouble using the raft with my hurt leg. The rays are common in the shallows just west of here. Take the bombs and use my raft to bring me back their stingers!

Oh yeah, watch out for the hammerheads!
