Currently it is as such (live)
Eternal Ember , Though not showing as boP infact ARE. They can be Master looted IF the threshold is rare or lower. They have only been seen by bosses as of now, not trash. These have nothing to do with primordials and are not purchasable with jp, vp, cp, or hp. You want tier 1 staff? RAID!

Living Ember However, is in some ways similar to the primordials. They also drop from bosses as confirmed in a comment, currently are NOT purchasable on any vendors, are BOE, and used only for crafting.

Keep in mind as far as vendors go nobody has unlocked all of the molten front vendors. It is very possible *(supposition!) that there will be a vp vendor locked away somewhere 2 weeks down the line that will have these for sale. This would allow the truly insane to craft what they want and get it first through spending 8 million gold on ones that drop before anyone else, but then unlock it to the masses a short time after.

If you faction transfer and have no embers yet, you must pick up this quest again even if you were already on it. I don't know how it works if you already have some embers.

Whatever you do, don't go straight into Firelands and or you won't be able to loot them.

They are BoP and the GM-s don't have option to give the ember to someone else if you get it. I wrote a ticket about one misclick and they refused me.

Note that the next raid part in the quest chain requires a fresh reset, since you need to kill Shannox, Alys, Rhyo and Beth.

However, if after clearing you end up at 24/25 embers (10 man) or 22+/25 (25 man), you can kill Baleroc first the following week and still complete stage 1 of the staff in the same reset.

This could save 1 week off the time it takes for your legendary :)

This quest is bugged at the moment, as it is not possible to get close enough to Anachronos to turn it in. I ticketed the issue and got confirmation today from a GM:

I took a look at this and it is definitely on our end. The developers have been made aware and are working on applying a fix as soon as possible.

That said, until the fix is implemented I'm afraid it will continue. My apologies for any frustration this may cause :(.

It will be impossible to continue on this quest line until Blizzard implements a fix of some sort.

I recently completed this, and either I am REALLY lucky on the drop rates, or Blizzard changed the 10m drop rate to a 100% chance, because in the last 3 weeks we went 6/7 each week, and I got 6 embers each week, to bring me to my 25 after this weeks raids.

I still don't have enough time to complete the entire chain before 4.3, but I am glad to have got this far.

I feel I have to spread some advice one of my guildies learned the hard way about race, class and/or faction changing with this quest chain active. If you didn't know, when you pay Blizzard for any of those services they will wipe your quest log as part of the process.

If you choose to go through with those paid services you will have this quest removed from your quest log. Every Eternal Ember you had collected up to that point will still be in your possession, but you must go and re-accept the quest from Anachronos. Neglecting to re-accept this quest means that if you kill a boss in Firelands you will not have any embers drop. Zero!

So, that's my cautionary tale. I'd recommend against any big account changes like those I listed above while on the collect parts of this quest. I hope this advice saves somebody else the headache.

To clarify:

You need to be on the Delegation quest, being on any other stage of your way to your legendary will cause it to reset when faction changing or anything like it.

Or you just do as I did, migg and not knowing that it will reset and then ask a GM very nicely to help you out.
But I ended up with 3 Sands of Time, 25 Eternal Ember AND I was put back on the quest where I was before I migged.

Sold the Sands of Time to a mate with a good discount. He was happy.. :D

So... I have all the materials (25 Eternal Embers and 3 Sands of Time) but when I go to turn in the quest, the 'continue' button doesn't work, so no completion for me! ....What's going on?

are the embers lootable by anyone, or just those on the questline? I've got an openraid group later this afternoon, and the RL, said that no loot was being reserved...open rolls on everything, so I'm just a bit worried, that I may get screwed over here. :|

The gold reward should be 9,028g 20s (not just 28g 20s) because it COSTS you 9,000g to buy the 3 Sands of Time.

To complete this quest, you also need 9,000g to buy the 3 Sands of Time @ 3,000g (not discountable) each :((

Ran it today on 25 normal on my warlock, and got 13 total embers. definitely higher drop rate than originally. can get this quest done in 2 runs probably.

Sands of Time are sold by Yasmin at /way 26, 7 in Uldum at the Oasis of Vir'sar. But, you need Cataclysm Alchemy (75) to make the 3k purchase (that's 3k x 3). GL! :-)

The addition of timewalking in 8.2.5 broke this quest. It seems (like Ulduar before) you can no longer set 25m vs 10m so the raid acts like 10m. The 25 Eternal Embers which used to take 2 runs to get will now take more like 6 runs. It's very annoying when Blizzard changes things without considering the impact those changes have on other things.

GREAT NEWS EVERYONE

It seems that since blizz made these old raids into 'flex' mode, you can do Heroic+Normal clears in the same week cutting the time of the quest by half.

As of 8.2.5, the Firelands is considered as a flex raid to accomodate for the fact that it's now used in Cataclysm Timewalking. As a result, solo-ing it will make it 10 man, but Normal and Heroic can both be run.

I was able to run Normal and Heroic, and I got 7 Eternal Embers from each, so you can still get 14 Eternal Embers a week.

Be careful not to accidentally delete these when clearing out your bag like like I did.... You can't 'item restore' these.

As of 8.3.7 the raid is flexable now, so you no longer have to worry about killing the first four bosses.
Just clear the boss normally until you get enough Eternal Ember.
Later when you're at Delegation, let a friend who has no progress of this raid be the leader, all the bosses will be alive.
Furthermore, I suggest not to kill Ragnaros too early (save your cd for both normal and heroic), as he gives more Seething Cinder for Time Grows Short.

By mistake, I must have vendored the first 6 embers I got.
I dont remember accepting the quest, and all of a sudden it was in my quest log while doing The Firelands for achieves and rep grind.

I was slightly concerned that I would have to get 6 more embers to turn in the quest. It would take one more week before I could proceed in the quest chain.

NO, that did not happen.

When I reached 25 Embers according to the quest (with only 19 in my bag), I purchased the Sands of Time and went to find the Dragon at the bottom of the Caverns of Time and was able to turn the quest in.

Solo'ed Firelands as a 10-man raid. Only got 8 Eternal Embers (OMG), and no Sands of Time. With 36,000 gold, just might take that offer and buy them.

Just finished this quest, and it did take 3 weeks/3 resets sadly😪 despite doing normal + heroic runs back to back, and killing all the trash mobs (which by the way, don’t drop ember!), the drop rate for eternal ember is very poor!

I was also one of those really unlucky ones where I finished my second reset and was annoyingly left with 24/25 eternal ember, which is why I had to go a third time around! You’d think the game would’ve picked that up and naturally dropped the last one but noooo 🤪

On a positive note though, just see it as a chance to earn some decent gold, lots of rep grind with Avengers of Hyjal, collecting the transmog sets as well as other random appearances, and the chance for the mounts to drop!

Edit 18/11/2022: They now seem to drop. It's unclear if Blizzard are actually fixing this as we go, or if every step of this quest requires you to arbitrarily wait about 24 hours.
Can't go into Firelands because you're a new Evoker and it says 'you're boosted'? Wait 24 hours.

A Legendary Engagement doesn't appear? Wait 24 hours (and also clear the other 3 raids?)

Eternal Embers aren't dropping? Wait 24 hours.

All Seeing Eye - collect 25 Embers (Firelands Raid Bosses)

After doing Normal and Heroic Legacy Raid I am at 15 of 25 Embers until reset.

Also, it seems that now all of the Firelands Bosses drop the embers.

Some info I came across during my adventures in this quest:

1) Yes, you can farm Eternal Ember from 10-man, 25-man and timewalking. This gives 2 opportunities every week, and 3 opportunities on TW weeks.

2) With "average" drops, you should be able to finish this quest in 2 weeks (1 reset mandatory). I was able to get ~14 per (non-TW) week (1 per boss + 2 for Rag), and the quest requires 25. Unfortunately, the drops are RNG and your experience may vary.

>> Kill every boss on Normal -> reset dungeon -> kill every boss on Heroic -> wait for weekly reset -> repeat -> done

3) YES, you can vendor Eternal Ember even though they are "quest" items.

4) NO, you cannot recover Eternal Ember using the item restoration service.

5) YES, GMs can restore Eternal Ember for you. GM Woranachis restored a stack of these for me (thanks!) on 2023-06-09 after 2-3 messages back-and-forth with CS. Verbatim: "Taking a look into this, yea the items are possible to sell, and the reason why you can't recover them is because they are a stackable item (weird quirks of our system)." They were in my mailbox on next login.

6) Sands of Time is still relatively expensive, but cost can be reduced with Uldum Accord reputation. If you don't have the rep, you can ask a friend to buy them on your behalf. They are fully tradable. You do NOT have to go back to "old" Uldum, the vendor has them in both timelines.
