Don't make the same mistake i did and go into the keep, needlessly slaughtering tons of ghosts and looking around, all you have to do is come into range with Captain Ironhill's Ghost who is patrolling near the entrance of the keep.

I saw Captain Ironside when I first got there. The question mark over his head was grey. He gave me a message to explore the Keep and let him now if it was inhabitable. I went in and when I came back out I could complete the quest.

This quest is completed by going near Captain Ironhill on the outside of the base itself. He will then give you another quest, Silence of the Dwarves, which is to kill 10 spirits.

Just click on the ghost to talk to him and it should complete the quest.

Search for Captain Ironhill's Ghost outside the keep. He should be wandering around there. He will complete the quest and give you the next one in the series.

My experience: talk to the ghost DISMOUNTED and it will work. If you try and get near him or talk to him mounted, it won't give you credit.

It didn't work for my either, before or after clearing the fort. Until I tried yet again to talk to Ironhill's Ghost, and it didn't work, and I mounted to storm away in disgust. Then the grey question marked turned yellow. So my advice would be find him, then tackle the fort, then find him again. If mounted, dismount. If not, mount.

I tried it all... Walk through his body, go in and out the fort, mount, dismount. It all didn't work.
Finally I tried clicking the guy with the left mouse button, and then FINALLY, the grey questionmark turned yellow, and I could finish the quest.

Thanks for the info Myztaco your info was really helpful, as soon as I arrived I saw the captain and clicked on him he gave me the quest I completed it and it was really easy to complete the quest, killing my 10 ghost.

As many have said, if you approach him mounted, he will not give you credit and the question mark will remain gray, at least until you dismount and walk away a bit.
HOWEVER, speaking to him while uncredited will allow you the one chance to read his "eerie" howling.

Description

The battle over Dun Garok was the bloodiest of all the Hillsbrad battles. The dwarves, outnumbered ten-to-one, fought until the bitter end. Every last one of 'em died in defense of that piece of land.

Now I hear claims that the place is haunted. Nobody wants to go near it! Unfortunately I have orders to prepare Dun Garok for habitation.

Could you do me a favor and go to Dun Garok and search for evidence of a haunting? It's far to the southeast.
