Dont make the same mistake i did and leave the zone before you do this quest, when i came back
the L P A C had gone from my bags and i dint have clue as to what he was taliking about untill i looked on here...................Just a thought.
if u do happen to loose it just abandon and retake quest :-))

I found you had to clear the lesser spirits first. If they attack you while you're fighting with the Furious Specters, it cancels the siphoning effect. Very annoying but easy to deal with. The other thing is that not every siphoning attempt will work, regardless of any other external activity. Just keep grinding and you'll get there.

Yeah, try and avoid the smaller blue ghosts because they tend to come at you from a mile away (not really that far, just exaggerating). And i found that the Large Green Ghosts (furious scepters) don't have to be at 50% EXACTLY.

Currently having problems on this with my shaman. It's like this:
"Ok - the ghost is at 75% HP. Caaaareful now."

LAVA LASH CRIT, FLURRY PROC, WINDFURY PROC AND THE FUKKEN GHOST IS... dead...

Make sure your inventory is not full. You will get no error message saying that your inventory is full and will not receive the quest item. For the longest time I thought the quest was bugged, until I checked my bags. D'oh.

These are the types of quests I hate from Blizzard. You use the item on the npc at full health... doesn't work. So, you use the item after they are dead... doesn't work. Nowhere does it say use when NPC is at 50% health. Pay attention, Blizzard... this is frustrating!

If u have a pet, be sure to set it to "passive" or the mob may die too quickly. As frostmage, i frosed it first, then a Frostbolt, and after that i could use the instrument. Piece of cake!

I found this quest was near impossible for me until I dismissed my demon.

Make sure you dismiss it so it doesn't kill it before you can finish channeling!

Just remove everything, arm your weapon, down to 50% or below, stop attacking, use the item. Boom, done.

After patch 6.0, this quest is completely impossible as a lvl 90. I am one-hitting everything even with a naked, unarmed fist attack. Even if I manage to not kill one, it has less than 10% health and the beam kills it before collecting the essence.

If you happen to be like me (+90 Druid Balance/Resto), you still OHKO the spirits with auto-attack even after stripping, and you don't have any spare Solid Dynamite (Engineer) and no EZ-Thro Dynamite II (for non Engineers) and you can't get killed due to talent Ysera's Gift or because you are impatient, just run in your undies towards the shore and jump into the sea. After you drown, you will be at the spirit healer in Orsis, resurrect there and fly fast to the spot where the furious spirits are. Maul them down with plain auto-attack and when they go below 50% health, use your Licensed Proton Accelerator Cannon immediately to advance the quest. Hope it helps :)

Yeah even the fishing pole doesn't work for me. iLvl 680 MM Hunter. I stripped, died, got the rez sickness and punched them 3 times to get them below 50%. Worked fine.

At level 100, completing this might be an issue, because you kill them too fast.
I used my Crate of Kidnapped Puppies which worked like a charm : agro the mobs with no damage, and let the puppies bring them below 50%, and use the cannon. Be sure to click it as soon as the spirit is below 50%, as the puppies continue to damage them and the cannon has some casting time.

With a level 100 Paladin, I was able to complete it with G91 Landshark (crafted with Engineering). It leaves Furious Specter with around 47-48% of total health.

As a 100 warrior I used Six Demon Bag which took them below 50%. I took off a few pieces of gear but don't know if that made a difference at all.

There are 2 quests in Uldum that are unduly hard at level 100, this and Unlimited Potential

The way to do this one is to go naked and fall off a flying mount and then get Ressurrection Sickness - that made this quest much easier - don't get distracted and let res sickness fall off though.

1 White damage hit from a lvl 100 Prot Pally naked, no weapon

the good news is that for legion and there's a new item that will allow you to mash (but not kill) mobs - so make sure you get hold of a Soft Foam Sword for 50g

As of pre patch i can do this quest with ress sickness as a mage with this weapon Edict of Argus&bonus=1799. I sometimes crit, but usually it was from 20% to 2,9% if he didnt get killed :p

Im a lvl 110 Paladin Tank Healh at 2370.

1) Change spec to holly, take all gear off first. (other specs had to much power)

2) Take REZ sickness at 25% for 10 mins.. (fly up and drop to die)

3) Find Large ghost, hit and turn away and click the L.P.A.C to get the essence from the big ghost.

do this 5 times...

YES it sucks, but you are way OP for this quest line... good luck..

Fix your guy and pay the huge gold cost.. (320 Gold to fix)

Since i was lvl 110, I managed to actually do the quest by stripping naked, removing the weapon and using Soft Foam Sword! It actually gets them around 11% health and no Resurrection Sickness necessary! So job well done Soft foam sword! Job well done ^_^

Edit: After some testing (in further quests) you don't even have to strip down. You just have to use the toy :)

Lvl 110 prot pally. Got naked, flew up in the air and dropped to die for rez sickness. Using the soft foam sword I was hitting them for 6.3k (they have 7k hp) so it had around 675-750 HP left each time. This allowed me to 1 hit them, and then channel the quest item and complete this quest!

I'm currently a level 93 Arms Warrior and I was finishing quests in Uldum so I could get the other Ramkahen daily (Fire From the Sky). I tried simply using the Soft Foam Sword like other comments suggested, but I kept getting "Invalid Target" and still one-hit killed them. I decided to try something else suggested in older comments.
Here's what I did:
I unequipped all my armour and my weapon before flying up and dismounting in order to die. I rezzed at the graveyard to get the rez sickness. I kept all my stuff unequiped (just in case) and I was able to hit the Furious Specter without one-hit killing it so I could use the L.P.A.C. on it. Because I left everything unequipped, it actually took me a handful of smacks to get it at/below 50%.

I'm a lvl 120 paladin. I found that even with the soft foam sword, I would sometimes kill them if I clicked at them to mark them as targets (not talking about auto-attack). In stead I just stood next to them at let them aggro. Once they started to attack me, I would soft foam sword them and that would to the trick.

Remove everything so your item level is zero.

Put the Soft Foam Sword (Toy) in your hot bar.

Let the mob agro you. Face away from the mob and use the toy sword. The toy brought the mob down to about 10% life after one use.

Use the quest item on the damaged mob and you are done.

Worked every time I did it this way.

If you take off your weapon and anything that has a chance to proc a damaging ability (Heart of Azeroth in this instance), you can punch them for around 1-2% of their health until they are below 50% to use the Accelerator Cannon on them. :)

With the latest level squish, the soft foam sword no longer works on the quest mobs, returns an invalid target error when trying to use it. Even buck naked still one shotting mobs with just fists, but the old rez sickness trick seems to still work, but no consistently.

With Patch 9.0.1 the Soft Foam Sword seems not to work anymore on these mobs. Invalid target message is all I get when trying to attack them with the toy.

However, due to being level 50 again, I was able to do this by getting naked and attack the with right click.

If you're a late Loremaster achievement farmer like me, you can now, thanks to the Shadowlands pre-patch squish, complete this quest at level 50 by taking your gear off and getting yourself resurrection sickness and then simply go to the Furious Spectres and auto attacking them until they drop below 50% health!

As of prepatch for 9.0, the Soft Foam Sword does NOT work as a level 50. This does work though: Get naked, kill yourself (I flew up high and dismounted), res at the grave yard and get the 75% rez sickness debuff, punch the dudes twice to get them below 50% then use the Proton Cannon

Since Dragonflight, over Level 60, took off all equipment and tried a fishing pole as a weapon. It may have worked back in the day, but now it's profession equipment and doesn't hit anything.

Tried the G91 landshark... does no damage AND cooldown doesn't start until after combat. Sigh.

What does work, although slowly, is the Goblin Dragon Gun, Mark II. Takes 5 charges out of the 50 inherent in the gun, plus the 30 sec cooldown, makes it tedious but works. Probably cheap on the AH, but I had my engineer build me one. Note this can be used by non-engineers.

PS anyone else think these dudes look like shrimp?
