His blinding swarm ability was taking me down by about 350 per second, so be aware of your health bar.

You have to go through and do all of the quests at Fiona's Caravan to reach this quest.

I keep dying. It's hard. Bring potions, buffs, etc. It's a doozy.

I was able to take this guy down as a level 45 fire mage solo. The swarm ability it has does hit hard, but if you run out of the way of it, you don't get hit (or as bad). Use Tarenar to keep it off your back, run behind it, and attack from behind so you're out of the way. Took it down twice with no problem after I figured this out - it respawned on top of me after I was idle for a bit lol.

I've tried this about 3 times and lvl 45 Shaman, and I can't dodge the attacks nomatter which way I run, it still hits me and I die in about 10 seconds. There's gotta be a better way to do this lol

This quest will throw you for a loop, as it is exceptionally hard. It's Blinding Swarm ability will do MASSIVE damage to you, and running from it simply makes it follow you, while you aren't doing any damage from fleeing. I would strongly suggest you bring a friend to down it. I have died 4 times on this guy alone. If possible, stun or silence him as soon as he starts the swarm. It is non-interruptable, so this is your best bet, and hit him with all of your cooldowns. DO NOT count on Taradar to be much help at all, or to take aggro off of you...he will not do so.

Also, try to repair before going into it...if you die a couple times, you do not want to have to go back and repair.

The minions are around his location, and are easy to kill.

He is not a rare or elite, just one of those (!) mobs. Be warned.

Edit: Rogues-- As soon as he uses Blinding Swarm, Vanish and get behind him. Taradar will grab the aggro, and you thus avoid it. Ambush when he's done swarming and kill for the win. Just killed him today as a 44 Rogue.

I failed three times as a solo 43 warlock. Ordinarily I survive my clothie squishiness by having my felguard tank for me, but even with him and Tarenar, I always seemed to draw Ix'lar's aggro. On my fourth try, I put a Shadow Ward on myself and the first thing I cast on Ix'lar was Curse of Tongues, so it took him longer to summon his swarm. And for some reason, my felguard got the aggro that time...he died right before Tarenar and I finished off Ix'lar.

My 44 frost mage in leveling greens managed to do this easily (Tarenar was naturally some help).

I guess starting at range and slowing (frost) Ix'lar was the key for me, definitely not my skill. Ix'lar was down at the time it started to do the swarm.

Assuming he's been nerfed as I just managed to take him down with relative ease (lv 42 rogue) and I am in no way skilled.

After four tries on my 40th level Mistweaver Monk, and ready to give up, I gave it one more try.

Please ignore the idiots who are claiming that he's not hard...and by implication, that the rest of us are just stupid and incompetent while they in their infinite lack of skill and poor gear, managed to do it like he's just any ol' quest mob.

I didn't save the battle logs for this, but I suspect what was happening is that this mob had help. The surrounding trash, which is also part of the quest, can stun, damage and some have pets and ranged attacks, too. And because of this Quest Mob's size, there's a good chance you didn't even see them.

What worked for me was clearing away the trash first, then fighting him on a hill top away from everything else. When he launched his blinding swarm ability, I ran from him in a lateral direction. He can't move when he does the Blinding Swarm, but he can turn to keep it aimed at you. Running away from him seemed to mitigate the damage, and it also gave me time to recover some of my abilities on CD.

He did go down, with some difficulty. My best guess is that he had some help the first few times I fought him.

Tarenar doesn't last long at all. And he won't respawn after death until you go back to the tower (if you want him).

Description

I know we're supposed to head to Northdale, but that can wait, right? Besides, this lovely little goblin was just telling me about some Scourge that are even closer by.

So apparently there's this nerubian underlord named Ix'lar that has been trying to make a name for himself ever since the Lich King was slain. He's set up a camp of undead to our north.

Sure, Tyrosus wants us to kill banshees in Northdale. We'll get to that. But let's kill this nerubian first, while we're close!
