This quest is given to you after completing the previous one wihtout returning to the quest giver. You can find the spider in the back of the cave hanging from the top.

For an easy kill, don't turn in the quest "Lost in the Darkness" . The orcs that follow you after freeing them do a lot of damage and they can bring down the matriarch easily. Just remember to tag her first, since they work like an hunter's pet, and you risk not getting credit for the kill.

EDIT: The orcs despawn after a while, be sure to be quick to turn in the previous quest or the advantage is lost.

I think I had a mini-heart attack when doing this quest. I went through the tunnel, and when I got to the end, I expected to see her there waiting for me. I didn't, so I figured someone had killed her and I had to wait for her to respawn.

Nope.

She slowly came down from the ceiling, and I practically fell out of my chair. It scared me half to death. Blizz did a great job with this quest; it was a uniquely nice touch to have her lurking on the ceiling. :)

Not many games offer the chance to have your own private gang of Orc thugs beat a spider to death. Pretty hilarious.

This quest reminded me of Jasperlode mine in Elwynn Forest all those years ago when the matriarch spider in there could cause problems while soloing. Total cake nowadays of course, like everything else.

This is one of the very few moments in WoW where the game actually made me jump. Didn't expect the spider to drop down on me, nearly crapped my pants.

Is anybody else experiencing a bug where the matriarch doesn't drop, and just sits there?

To get any quests from Warlord Torok at the Forsaken Rear Guard, you need to do all the quests at Forsaken High Command (northern-most flightpath in Silverpine Forest) starting with The Warchief Cometh - though you can skip the quest from High Warlord Cromush that takes you to Hillsbrad. Once you complete the quest that takes you to Forsaken High Command (The Warchief's Fleet that completes at Admiral Hatchet).

Complete Give 'em Hell! and Steel Thunder with Torok and Hatchet. Once these were complete I grabbed Skitterweb Menace from Torok and Lost in the Darkness from the Admiral and bee-lined for the back of the cave. As I got closer to the back of the cave where the Matriarch is, it popped up automatically.

Since I just wanted the gear for xmog, I was able to do the auto-accept and run back to town without completing the other quests. So this ^ appears to be the minimum required to be able to see this quest and turn it in.

Find the brood mother at the end of the cave in the Skittering Dark and destroy her!
