Abandon and redo worked for me.

The second time around, some parts looked different compared to the first time, like it wouldn't have been correctly working the first time around.

I just completed this one, receiving the blue quest reward, but didn't get the related achievement.

Also, some parts of the "cinematic" seem to have some problems with the camera remaining still and not following the action properly (but this could be just my impression).

I was forced to alt-f4 and come back in for this to work. I did notice another horde player trying to do the quest as I started it.....perhaps that's the issue?

I had the same bug, but after reading some posts, i exited game where i was and re-logged. I was not on the seahorse mount. After about 1 minute or so, it seemed the cinematic basically started from the point the NPC's were about to kill Neptulon. Everything worked fine from there. Npc dialogue that hadn't happenned the first time took place and all was well. Collected loot and achievement.

I just spent about an hour on the boat, nothing happened.

Then WoW crashed.

When I relogged, the next part of the event was in progress, and I was in it. When the cinematic ended, all the others on the boat was there too, and their WoWs had also crashed.

I was completely unable to to do this quest.

Every combination of re-logging and abandoning and re-picking up the quest failed to fix it.

Every time I accepted the quest and then started it, the cut-scene would play, the sub would load, then all the NPC's would disappear and I got a breath bar. Nothing I could do would bring them back.

Edit: Going back the next day after a server restart resulted in a successful completion of the quest.

First time, aggroed an honor guard, no cutscene, no credit.

Second time, got the cutscene, the turn-in guy never spawned, and then the event started up again and I got "World Server is Down" as soon as the cutscene for the 2nd event was about to begin.

This is getting frustrating...

If you are haveing trouble then do this. Do not go ahead of the rest of the group and do not attack anyone at the last part when Naz'jar comes. Then you should go into a little clip of her and neptulon fighting

After I abandoned the quest I went back to get it again and Erunak disappered he hasnt come back yet has this happend to anyone else?

guys you only need to abandon quest and you get ported out. dont need hs/mage

When you pick up the quest, be sure to remember to speak to Erunak Stonespeaker to begin the quest! It leads you to a cinematic!

I was having the same issue that everyone one else was having with this quest. After I got bored waiting for the npc to spawn I swam over to the crashed sub to check it out before I went on to do other things, as I was swimming into it, it disappeared and the npc had appeared where he was supposed to be. This may have been a fluke, but its worth a shot .

The first time I did it the NPCs in the sub loaded slow. So I missed half the RP.
I sat to drink at one point and when the NPCs got frozen, I was not.
And at the end the quest wasn't completed. I had to abandon and start again.

The 2nd time everything seemed to be working until the end. I had to stare at a shaman for abotu 2 minutes before the quest would complete. But now the NPC to do the turn in is missing!

I'm sitting here waiting a 3rd time for someone else to finish and hopefully I can turn it in....
Nope still bugged. Did a relog and the NPC is back in the correct spot to turn in though.

My advice? Just sit there, do nothing, maybe go get some coffee, and you'll complete it.

Everything went fine for me, i did check the comments before starting the quest tho, so i also did not attack the last wave (it kinda does make sense that if you're in combat or have aggro at least that the cinematic start might leave your body unattended leading to your death, but blizz really needs a workaround that).
So everything fine, quest completed BUT no mob to turn the quest in, reloging did fix this for me tho.

I have attempted this quest 9 times so far. What has been useful:

-You can restart the quest by abandoning it (this will teleport you off the boat).
-If you have an air bubble meter, the quest is probably bugged.
-If there are no NPCs (or the NPCs despawn in the middle of talking), the quest is probably bugged.

What I can't figure out:
-How do I keep the NPCs from despawning? I've relogged several times and nothing seems to work.

I don't think you need to relog to fix this. I swam up to the Tenebrous Cave and back to see whether he'd returned and when I got back to the Abyss he was in his correct spot. I don't know for certain whether he just took a long time to spawn or if it was a phasing issue, where I needed to leave the phase and return to be in the right one. (Thinking of all those idiotic quests that make you leave a phase then immediately return to see a new questgiver.)

This quest is also a requirement to open up the quests in the Throne of the Tides 5 man instance.

wed, dec 08, 4 pm est quest still bugged
scenario shows you only deep water, and sound is constant submarine beeping.
loading inside the sub pops up a breath meter. After couple of seconds it vanishes and npcs appear. 3 - 5 seconds later or 2 lines into the npcs conversations npcs fade out , the breath meter pops up again and u die by drowning.

after canceling the quest and retaking for over an hour its (5:18 est now)
quest remains bugged and wont go anywhere.
reloading, hearting and canceling/retaking quest. logging off complitely exiting out client doesn't do anything but sends u to your heart home or back into the cave.
I figured i will cheat and use water breathing lock buff thinking maybe it wont pop the breath meter and if that was the problem it might work (locks made out like bandits) sadly for me and my gold purse that didn't work either.
but i did notice a difference, when the npcs vanish i get phased in with other players which weren't there before. Which get me to the conclusion that it isn't the breath meter that's causing it but the whole phasing crap they implemented.
so what gives? any ideas ?

as of 512 central us time, quest still bugged. tried varied combinations of relog, and abandon, cinematic goes NPC's appear, then slowly disapper, I do not move, I dont touch keyboard, 5 times in row now. Hmmmmmm, wonder why it works for some and not others.

Confirmed that it is bugged, did it three times.. realized the bug occurs if you enter combat when the honor guards spawn by attacking them.. this will stop you from getting the cinematic that occurs about 5 seconds afterwards.

Did the quest three times, first two times I attacked them... no cinematic, no question completion.
The third time I did not attack, entered cinematic & received question completion once it finished.

People saying go grab a coffee and such should get their post deleted in my opinion.
Make us waste time for no reason.

I did get dced while being dropped into the boat, had to alt F4 because I was stuck on loading. But after that it went alright. There is some downtime while you are in the submarine, totally wondering what should I do...but then the cinematic restarts.

Then you wake up dead in the middle of the fight, just watch Erunak own them all.

3 waves of nagas spawn, then a last cinematic where you see Tidehunter Neptulon.

I don't know how this may work for Alliance, but here's my Horde side of how it went. A few spoilers, but feel free to read if you got stuck on this like I did.

Attempt #1. When the first cinematic happened, the submarine vanished. When I loaded in the sub, I saw a breathmeter for a few seconds before it vanished, but nothing out of the ordinary otherwise. There were elite Naga that attacked, I engaged them, and they were all killed by the Shaman. The events proceeded as normal until the end, where I attacked the Honor Guard and the last cinematic didn't happen. Quest NPC was there, but I couldn't complete it.

Attempt #2. I was the only player this time. The sub loaded normally the first time; it was even there in the first cinematic. There was no breath meter. Having not read WoWHead, I attacked the Honor Guard a second time and did not get the last cinematic. I also attacked the previous elite naga until they were killed. After the last event that was supposed to trigger the cinematic, Nazgrim, the orc leader, remained on the ledge with a grunt, who was still engaged in combat with a naga Honor Guard. The orc did not approach the shaman. I did not get credit for the quest, and all of them despawned after a little while. There was no NPC to turn the quest in to.

Attempt #3. There were more players this time. The sub loaded correctly as in Attempt #2; no breath meter at all as well. Things proceded the same. When the sub crashed and left us lying on the seafloor, it was the orc who told us to get up as the naga attacked, rather than the Shaman beforehand which is normally followed by Nazgrim after we had enough time to get up. By this point I had read this comments page and saw that attacking the Honor Guards is bad. I also avoided attacking any of the previous Naga, although they attacked me. So I warned the other players present to not attack them. When the time came, they ignored my advice. I did not attack them, but they did. The cinematic loaded for me for the first time. I got quest credit, but at the end of the cinematic I was left staring at the Shaman, who was doing nothing. The cinematic stopped, left us all near the shaman, and for some reason dead corpses of ourselves were on the ground near us. The same thing happened as before - Nazgrim stayed on the ledge while a grunt continued to battle a naga. Soon after, they all despawned.

Attempt #4. See Attempt #3, the one difference being that the sub loaded incorrectly and I had a brief breath meter before it went away.

Attempt #5. This one worked! The sub vanished in the first cinematic, like Attempts 1 and 4, and I did have a brief breath meter before it went away like before. When the sub crashed, Nazgrim woke us instead of the Shaman. The Shaman only got us up on the first two tries I did. Things proceded as normal. I really stressed to the group that they shouldn't attack the Honor Guards. The time came, and nearly everyone stood their ground and did not attack, with one exception. A troll shaman shot a fireball at one of the honor guards right before the cinematic. The cinematic still loaded as it should. At the end, Nazgrim approached the Shaman and they had a brief dialogue. When that was done, I got credit for the quest and was able to turn it in. Everyone else got credit too, judging by their achievement dings. Right after that, he went swimming into the whirlpool.

My hypothesis: When you reach the part with the Honor Guards, it is important to not attack them. When you fight an Honor Guard, they have a small health pool. They can be brought to 1 HP, but will not die. The shaman in my last attempt attacked them without any bugs occurring, so it may only be an issue when they hit 1 HP. However the bug is triggered in that circumstance, it causes a grunt to remain engaged in combat. As long as that grunt is in combat, Nazgrim will not leave the ledge and talk to the Shaman. In the last attempt, the sub despawned in cinematic #1, there was a breath meter, I fought the earlier naga, and the Shaman did not say his line to wake us up. By that, I assume that those are not indicitive of a bugged quest, nor is the quest guaranteed to work if those things happen normally.

Others report bugs regarding an empty sub when they begin the quest. This has not happened to me in the 5 attempts I had, so I cannot guess about what that means.

So, to put all of this simply: DO. NOT. ATTACK. THE. HONOR. GUARDS. (The elite naga are fair game though) And make sure you stress that to everyone with you.

Only problem i had was with turning the quest in: the NPC simply wasnt there (even though the question mark was on the screen). Then, he appeared a minute later, but still couldnt turn-in. So I relogged and then it was successful. My advice: dont kill something unless it attacks you (like other have said). I had no problems until the end.

Myself and another player had the bug as well. After the naga enter the vortex the camera is stuck on the shaman and nothing happens.

We went back to the cave, started the event again and did not attack any of the mobs that spawn and it worked fine then. So I think this is key.

This was Horde side on Dragonblight.

Ok Ive done the abandon and retry and the log an retry. Neither works. Now SOMETIMES (since I have tried this a few times now) the crew appears in the sub, but then fade away. Sometimes another player is in there with me. This is the second time something strange has happened while playing Cataclysm.
I get the first part of the cinematic, the one where the sub comes out of the cave, but thats it.
Just closed out the whole thing now, an will attempt again.

I went through this quest, and it bugged toward the end. I didn't see the cinematic where Erunak is pulled into the vortex. So I went back to Tenebrous Cavern and started the event again.

After my second trip through the sub, I made it a point not to attack anything and I was greeted with all the cinematics and the quest completed normally. However, someone else pulled a Naga along and the quest giver was stuck attacking it. Unfortunately, those Naga stop taking damage at 1 hp, so he never allowed me to turn in the quest.

I just sat there, poking through Wowhead to look for advice, when the event played through again. Eventually, Legionaire Nazgrim spawned and allowed me to complete the quest.

Clearly the quest is very buggy atm, but determination and patience will pay off.

I've been trying to start this quest for about a half hour. First few times I got in fine, but the NPCs were despawned. I exited the game and found I hadn't downloaded a patch, so after doing so, I tried it again - now I wasn't even getting the cinematic. I was treated to a view of the cave's floor until I logged out and back in, and then I was apparently phased into the sub and couldn't move, but I saw myself sitting in the cave, which was empty. I tried it twice more with the same results.

Typical .. got right to the end of the quest and it bugged ! Guildys say stuff about lag spike.
Logged out and back in .. still bugged.
Log out ... log alt..... game decides to hang.
Log main char that was doing quest .... stil hangs ...... must be time to sleep.

Started quest, got cut scene, got sub with no NPCs. Took this thread's advice, abandoned quest, started over, saw NPCs for about 2 seconds then they disappeared. Tried this about 4 more times. Tried relogging. Tried quitting and restarting, then gave up and just sat in there with the same group of people who were also in the sub with me having the same problems. One of the people in there told me "my guildies said sit here for about 10 mins and the NPCs reappear". At minute #8 the game crashed completely out so I submitted Blizz a error log. I told them "GAME CRASH! SUB QUEST BUGGED! HALP ME HALP! KTHX"

The issues with this quest definitely stem from others phasing in while you're doing it. I tried to get people to wait so we could do it one at a time, but it was impossible to stop people spamming it over and over. Anyway after a fruitless hour of attempts during primetime I tried it at 5AM just after our server restarted - everything went fine with the exception of the quest NPC not spawning to turn in the quest at the end. This problem is solved by a quick relog.

So - to complete this quest as it currently stands:

1 - wait till a really dead time, like early in the morning after a restart.
2 - logout and log back in if the legionnaire does not spawn for turnin after you complete the event.

I was able to do the quest without any problems today at 9:00 a.m. server time. I attacked every NPC that spawned except the last honor guards. Actually i had not the chance to target them, since the last cutscene started 2 seconds after they appeared. I don't know if this was due to luck, or that last night's rolling restarts actually fixed the problem.

Here's the deal. First - don't start this quest unless you have a good 15 minutes to spare. It's a long sequence and you have no control over it.

Talk to the questgiver to start the sequence. The cinematic starts. From this point on, do nothing. While you're inside the sub, you can use the remote viewer consoles to see outside the sub.

After the sub sequence, do your best to stay out of fights. You don't need to kill anything. Engaging a Naga could bug out the quest altogether. If a Naga attacks you, just stay alive, they don't last long.

Second sequence as they engage the Naga at the crater, definitely don't attack anything. Just watch, watch, watch.

At the end, stay where you are and the turn-in NPC is right there (might take a few seconds to see him).

*edit* - This quest is all about the lore behind the Throne of the Tides instance. Listen and watch the story.

If you can't see Nazgrim at the rim of the Abyssal Breach after the battle is over, logout and relog and he will appear. But hurry before he despawns again. At the end of the cinematic you will see Erunak floating around for 1 min (bug) until it finally ends. Don't worry, your computer hasn't hanged!

All you have to do is talk to Erunak, he's at the end of the table. Then just ride the submarine, after it sinks you need to follow the crew. Fight off the naga, then watch the video and then your quest should be complete. Easy.

This quest starts out with you inside of a submarine. You have to wait for a while before finally being put back in the ocean. Once you are, be ready to fight and follow Nazgrim. A cutscene will show a fight between the Lady Naz'jar and Neptulon, afterward you will be given control of your character back. Nazgrim should be right in front of you at this point, so you can turn in the quest easily.

Following the story, you swim down into the middle of the Abyssal Breach, then into the Throne of Tides. Nazgrim will be directly inside the instance with two follow-up quests:

With that weird bug I found a way to stay in the quest "instance" by using Remote Viewing Device, but after I reach this dialogue:
Erunak Stonespeaker says: Without aid, they will fail.
I got stucked, and it starts all over.
If someone manage to pass that part plz post it.

I coudn't find the NPC to after the first time.
I just waited on the spot were he should be, and i think some-one else was also on the quest.
Than i saw the final confersation, and i could turn in my quest.

I swim with the orc into the abyss thing, and i discoverd an dungeon entrance. ^ ^

I may have found a workaround for the phasing problem while on the submarine.

As soon as you first phase in, go to one of the Remove Viewing Consoles and use it. As soon as the cutscene is over, use another one. Try to keep yourself "re-phasing" back into the sub as the whole event continues to unfold.

While you are viewing the cutscenes, the game seems to ignore the fact that other people are trying to phase in also, and will let you continue.

You'll know it's working if the NPC's event text continues to advance while you are using the viewing consoles.

I had two ultimately failed attempts (quest completed, but not able to turn in). I attempted once more after finishing 2-3 unfinished quests that I did not realize I had not completed. This did not resolve the issue at all.

As of 13 Dec 2010, quest is still not working in many ways. Ultimately even if the quest 'completes', it cannot be turned in to a NPC.

If the quest is left completed but not turned in, it will leave the Abyssal Maw in a phase where the player cannot access the dungeon/raid entrances by going down the Abyssal Maw vortex. Suggestion is to just leave this alone completely (not attempted or in quest log) until Blizzard fixes it.

FWIW, as of this date, it is STILL not in Blizz' known bug list on Battle.net bug forum. Dismal....

After taking quest and sayin ure ready u get cinematic and then ure in submarine
NPCs are there with you 2-3 secs and they dissapear and submarine is swimmin round the abyss for ever...

Still not working on Hyjal as of the other day. There's a several page long thread in the bug section of Blizz's WoW forums, without one blue post to it. They claimed to have fixed it, but whatever they "fixed", it didn't work.

As for steps, I tried everything in this thread to no avail. I tried this at 3 am on my server when hardly anyone was around. By constantly clicking the viewer in the back corner, I was able to keep the npcs from despawning and go through each part of their script. Constantly clicking on the viewer showed cutscenes with poor camera positioning. Finally got the main orc npc (forget the name atm, and doing this on memory) to say to park it close to the rift and a goblin npc said he couldn't, current is too strong. And then....nothing. It just kept driving the stupid sub around. Zoned out, abandoned quest, the whole thing, retrying this method each time to get the same result. And not clicking on the viewer would have the npcs despawn within 2 - 3 seconds.

I'm honestly amazed this made it to live and that they have yet to fix this properly.

Tried this method, only got as far as them wanting to park nearby but unable to do it because of the strong current. Then it just kept driving around the area with no further conversation from the npcs and no further action. Did this for a good 30 minutes (timed by way of the warlock fel armor buff).

I completed this today - quite cool actually that you can be inside a sort of vid instance and still battle stuff.

The misleading thing to start with is the fact the hand-in question mark is over at the Abyss, when it's actually the same guy you pick up the quest from.

Once you speak to him and tell him you're ready to go, the vid starts. It runs in a couple of segments. I crashed back to the login screen at the interchange between the first two, but on relogging I was immediately at the start of the second segment, and the rest of the quest went fine.

It's a bit of fun actually, and you get to go into the whirlpool to discover the instance down there.

So it still has issues, but at least you can get it done now.

I could not complete this quest. I died of suffocation in the submarine. Spent about 10 minutes trying to recover my corpse from the moving submarine then gave up. Cost 47g for repairs after respawning at the grave yard. I'll not be getting on that sub again! hope there weren't too many quests left in the chain.

Edit: And I wanted that Drape of the Helmsman!

You can simply abandon the quest and you will be teleported back to the questgiver no need to die from suffocation.

And yes the quest is still bugged no one in my realm can complete it, the NPC are despawning as soon as more than 1 player spawn in they submarine, for me the despawned even when i was alone in the submarine.

And Blizz is hotfixing the end of the quest but we can even start it, great work.

I waited an hour in the sub... npc's were there for about 5 seconds before they vanished... blizz needs to fix this soon... By the way if you go to the door at the top of the sub you will "swim" for a second and then you will get air back.. there is no need to die trying this quest... also I've tried restarting the quest several times still no luck

Struggling with it for 4 days opened 3 tickets and search al lthe internets.
The quest is bugged but i complete with the "Remote console" trick.

When you get on the sub go left or right and click the console keep clicking it when you are going back to the sub till you reach the battle and voila quest done.

I swam down into the vortex but couldn't find the Legionnaire. So...I'm kinda assuming the next "part" of the quest is just doing the instance.

I have just completed this using the Mastercraft Kalu'ak Fishing Pole fishing pole as suggested on the official wow forums.

Previous to that I experienced just about every one of the bugs that have been mentioned on this site and others too.

The latest being that if I accepted the quest and then said I was ready it would put me in the cutsceen but I would not move I just stood where the quest giver was, frozen and stunned. I could not hearth, or unstuck, I could not do anything other than log out and back in, still stunned and frozen, abandon, then relog again.

When I equiped the fishing rod, everything ran smoothly cutsceens, the boat, no phasing issues, everthing went perfect, quest completed with no issues other than getting ganked by about 5 ally before I could hand it in.

I suspect the issues are mainly caused by not being able to breath under water. I had other members of my guild complete this the same as me and/or with underwater breathing spells or items that provided it. The important part was that I had underwater breathing before I started the event.

I attempted this last night for the first time. The cinematic played as I started the quest, once the cinematic stopped and switched to being inside the sub everything was completely black. I could see a breathe meter (which stayed on 3 min and did not go down at all) and my UI but was unable to do anything or even move. I was impatient as I suspected something was wrong, so I hard closed (ALT + F4) wow.

After hard closing I attempted to log back on and was immediately disconnected. I gave it a few minutes and tried to log on again. The loading screen appeared, the blue loading bar filled completely then stayed on there for about 10 minutes then disconnected again.

I then decided to wait an hour and go on another character. Once on another character it said that the main i was doing the quest on was still online (even an hour after I logged off) but it wasn't sure where it was (Destination: Unknown). Then after a few more minutes it went offline.

I decided to leave it for the morning and try again. After 11 hours later, I tried to log on. Failed to log on once again. Keeps getting stuck on the loading screen then disconnecting. I am unsure how to resolve this, being unable to even log onto my character is very frustrating. I have put in a ticket but any help would be appreciated.

Worked fine for me on the second attempt. First attempt WoW just outright crashed after the first little sub cinematic. Relog, go back to the questgiver, and restart it. Worked fine then. I did attack the nagas, did not mount up, stayed with the group.

After all these replies I'm surprised no one has commented on this nice, epic capstone to Vashjir. Quick thoughts:
I was very sorry to see that awesome sub go down.

The kraken and other goings on in ToT makes much more sense now. I really want to take out that kraken and have some epic calamari.

(Horde) Legionnaire Nazgrim is one of my fave characters. Badass and a sense of humor. "Well, going down there can't be any worse than facing Hellscream after this.."

I have relogged, abandoned quest, picked it up again, drowned, hearthed out, been disconnected from the server and everything else that everyone has suggested... Now, my character is logged in, even though I am not... I have opened a ticket to have someone log her out because I am getting super peeved at not being able to play her... Anybody else have any other bright ideas.

Ok getting through the cinematic to where the breath bar is there. Then I start taking damage it's says to get to the top but for some odd reason I can't get up the walk way due to being a tauren anyone else having the same issue. Just a FYI If u are a tauren doin this quest make sure u have pygmy oils to shrink down to a pygmy or u can't get up top

Another thing to note, when it bugs out you eventually lose track of the sub during the cinematic (it just dissapears after a few seconds)

I managed to play around with this:

if you alt+f4 during the cinematic and then log in.. you'll find your toon "stuck" just outside the cave.

I relogged here and went to the rift -> nothing there
Then I went to the cave.

Told the guy again to take me to the reach. Here I saw a cinematic with the sub in full sight.

The npcs chatting nicely... but eventually dissapearing again.

So things different:
- Sub in the cinematic;
- NPC's chatting longer.

I'm going to experiment a bit more, perhaps I can find a moment to bug the bug :)

@ AdultX If you're on this submarine then it means that you should have already completed all of your Vashj'ir quests (and gotten the achv to prove it) and that you just go back to Org (or your alliance city) and talk to someone about going to a new zone.

And while this quest worked fine for my mage a few days ago, it is currently bugging out on me on 12/20. I get the despawning NPCs, the breath bar and the never ending sub ride. I've abandoned, logged out, quit the game, etc and nothing has worked. So while I already know where the entrance to ToT is, it sucks that I currently won't be able to get the quests for the dungeon because I can't defend the stupid rift.

ok this is a very long cinimatic ride along prolly over 5mins i didnt time it. to start this quest talk to the guy right next to where u got it that willstart the cinimatics then just follow the guys in the ship that u are in when it crashes and the game takes you along so get a drink and watch for a while. alos you can discover the instance of the tides if you swim down the whirlpool but becareful i died when i went the wrong way

I need some help here. I accepted the quest and went to the rift right ahead. I didnt find any NPC or dudes to kill at the rift so i tought it was buggde so i abandoned the quest and went back to where the questgiver should have been. He aint there, the tents etc is still there but no questgiver. I've tryed like... evrything! What should i do? Please help me.

Had to go afk soon after starting the quest, returned expecting to be dead or the quest failed instead I was next to the quest NPC (the one you hand it in to) and the quest completed. Turns out an Azsh'ir Abductor knocks you out, grabs you and swims towards the group, only to be killed and drop you with the group if you get separated from the group of NPCs. Turns out this happened every time the group moved forward and allowed me complete the quest without being there.

For me it bugged after Erunak was grabbed by the tentacle. The entire cutscene/phasing stopped and I was left there to wait for nothing.
After 5 minutes of boredom, I decided to come here and read the gazilion of comments about how bugged it this quest. I equipped the kalu'ak pole and the cutscene rolled back automatically about midway and I got the quest complete message.

Then I didn't had any NPC to turn the quest in to.

I waited again a few minutes, the cutscene begun again, this time at the end there was the NPC to turn it in.

This quest is so screwed.

I must add that, even if you are able to complete this quest with no bugs, it is STILL the most annoying quest ever! I watched 4 cut scenes in the boat, 2 or 3 on the floor, spent a lot of time feigning death so I wouldnt die . . . thats a LOT of time watching BORING movies for really not that much xp! If i'd known it didnt lead to more quests, I might have skipped the achievement . . . even WITHOUT bugs.

I tried it last night at 3:30 AM and it was broken. Went to sleep. Woke up and tried it again at 1:00 PM and it worked flawlessly. Maybe they are in the process of applying a hotfix to all realms, be patient, it'll work for everyone soon.

Still broken on Medivh. NPCs despawn if viewers are not used, and nothing happens after the "Take down to the sea floor! -I can't do that sir!" exchange.

Disappointing, really. This quest is supposed to be the big finale for the zone, and instead I'm getting peeved about fiddling with bugs for an hour.

EDIT: Quest worked normally the next day. Maybe the rolling restarts helped.

The quest is not permanently bugged. If the scene does't work out the first time (i.e. after you leave the cave you should have an in the sub scene), then simply abandon the quest and you will go right back to the quest giver.

- When you leave the cave, a few seconds later you switch to an in the sub scene. This is a long scene where your not in a cimamatic area, you can actually move around. Just ride out the scene, and listen to the dialog. Eventually you'll go back to an cinamatic scene where the Naga are chasing the sub. They will attack and you pop back into game play and you're on the sea floor.

- Follow the NPCs from here on out, don't get ahead of them. It'll take you to the las scene of the zone, where you will complete the last quest for the area. You then enter the instant and off you go.

P.S. You can fight when the NPCs fight, the shaman always saves your butts.

For all the Taurens, the way to fix the breath bug is head to the back corner of the ship. You should be able to get "swimming" and the breath bar will disappear.

Doesn't fix the fact that the NPCs are gone and that you can't complete the quest.

just completed this, after doing it i got both 20,000 leagues under the sea & sinking into vashj'ir achievements, it ran smoothly all the way through, had to fight a couple of npc's, due to been getting attacked by them

This is loooooong and booooring. Ten minutes where you do nothing but watch and wait, cutscene after cutscene.

At least it feels like you're participating in the ending of Deepholm and Mount Hyjal. Here you can literally go boil an egg while you wait.

Looks like it's fixed now. The quest takes ages to complete. The part in the boad looks like it's bugged but it just takes a long time. Just wait till he's finished. Just follow the NPC at all time.

The quest seems to work now, but I had a to wait a while for the event to start. I was in the proper phase and all with the NPCs, but it took about 5-10 minutes before any of them started talking. You can pass the time by using the little consoles around the ship to get a better view of the battle outside.

After accepting the quest and talking to the questgiver, the cutscene occurred that showed the submarine leaving the cavern.

Next thing, I'm on the submarine and there are a lot of NPCs. After about 5 seconds, all the NPCs disappear and I now have a breathing meter, as if I'm swimming.

Following another players advice, I walk up to the door on the third floor and it allows me to start breathing again and my breath meter goes away. But now as I'm running around inside the sub, my character is running as if he is running on the ground in Vashj'ir (you know, the long running/jumping strides). Still no NPCs though. I just run around in the sub while it circles the Abyssal Depth's endlessly.

I have no idea what to do. There is no one to talk to and nothing to click on. Relogging, Alt-F4'ing, Hearthing, Abandoning and reacquiring quest didn't not help.

I can't do this quest at all. Each time I log and try, speak to the NPC, tell him I am ready, I get the sub cinematic, which then gives me back the game. I can see I am inside the sub but the screen shows me blackness, and I can see on the minimap that I am running about the sub, but on the main screen I can see nothing.

I then abandoned the quest, and initially it kicked me off (twice), but I rebooted the PC entirely, and when I went through the above, -again - and then abandoned it and it took me back to the quest giver.

I still get the same issue when I try and complete the quest, which makes it impossible to complete. My friend, who was playing at the same time - his character got locked to the cinematic/instance and then it booted him from the game. He wasn't able to log back in telling him that he is already logged in and playing (as if he didn't know!), and he is currently awaiting help from a GM on another character!

My advice - avoid this quest completely.

I finished this quest but now I'm stuck. I have no more quests and when I follow Nazgrim into the Maw, he just gives me quests for the instance. I'm still 15 away from 150. Was this quest supposed to be the 150th? If not, where do I pick up the next quest in this line?

The date is January 4th, 2011. And the bug is still. not. fixed. Every time the first little cinematic happens, with the submarine leaving the cave, it disappears after about 15 seconds, then I just keep following the camera as if it was watching something. Then I port inside the submarine, and I see all the NPC's there, for about 3 seconds (sometimes one of them will say something.) Then they disappear and I seem to phase into a different submarine. I call it the 'Limbomarine' because it seems to be the externally invisible and intangible submarine that you can only exit via ports, hearthstone, or abandoning the quest.

Also I get the little progress bar for drowning (undead FTW), this is fixed by either abandoning the quest before you die, or going upstairs (apparently impossible for tauren) and to the front door and jumping until it thinks your swimming, at which point you can then summon your seahorse and doodle around in the Limbomarine.

I've tried every combination of re-logging, exiting the actual zone on my seahorse and re-entering. Going to the limbomarine, hearthing, and looking for my actual submarine. Being in the limbomarine, hearthing, and porting again into the submarine without abandoning. Doing it in a group. Doing it when no one else is doing it. I even destroyed all my conjured items to see if that would matter. I also 'Exit Now'ed as soon as I entered the submarine and saw the NPC's in hopes that it would log me off there and log me back in. No go.

Basically the ending of this story is that, for me, this quest is quite literally broken. I can't complete it, no method will work. The limbomarine entices my character far greater than the submarine can.

I'm hoping to god that when the servers restart I'll be able to do it :]

One last note: While none of these things worked for ME and I'm very screwed atm when it comes to this quest, I encourage you to try any method you think will work, even if it means repeating some of the things I did. I've read many posts about this bugged quest and some of the things that didn't work for me seem to have worked for others. So go ahead and try any number of my massive failures. =D

i spent most of my normal wow playing time to day trying and working out what bit is currently going wrong with this quests submarine bug when you are in the submarine and it puts up a breath bar and the npc's dissappear and i cannot find a way to work a way around this however by hopping into the cinematic control machines in the submachine i did delay the innevertable long enough to see that it seems to reset the event once it reaches the part of the quest when the naga attack so this is one of the areas by the looks of things blizzard realy need to sort out asap.

I tried everything and being a Tauren, I drowned, died and had a big repair bill. I went and bought some Noggenfogger elixir, and still couldn't complete the quest. I submitted a ticket to Blizzard and while it was pending I accepted the quest, quit the game and stayed next to the quest giver. When I logged back in, started the event, stood still and didn't move. The NPC's went away and I still stayed put for almost 20 seconds. The story chat started in my chat log and they all came back and I was able to complete the quest in its entirety! Might want to try it or maybe my scathing ticket I submitted did something? Good luck! Nazgrim can be found inside the dungeon to get the rest of the quests btw.

This quest is broken as of today on Sen'jin, Horde side.

I've tried every method mentioned here and elsewhere and nothing worked.

You start the quest, see a little cutscene, then after a few seconds on the boat all the NPC's phase out and you start losing breath. You can go get breath up top but it doesn't do any good. no amount of waiting or other people starting the quest will phase you back in. They'll just join you (or you them) in the "out of phase" boat. I've done it when no one else was doing it and I've done it when others were doing it. I've tried logging in and out on the boat; reloading my UI, using the remote viewers (you can extend the NPC discussion but you cannot continue the event; it will always still stop after the captain says to land the boat by the rift; you get no further scenes and you will phase out again).

There is no solution to this. Possibly if there is a server reset it will work, for a while. But that's not a solution and this is getting irritating. Worse is Blizzard is seemingly pretending that the problem doesn't exist. Not responding to any of the bug reports in the bug forum over the last month on this exact subject. It's like they got it in their head that they fixed it (this specific issue was supposedly fixed on the Dec 8th hotfix) and then shoved their heads right in the sand and refuse to hear more.

I would be surprised if this got fixed at all. If you're stuck with this situation; hopefully you can catch a server reset because that'll probably be the only way you will ever complete the quest.

Today I tried the quest once again and it has become even buggier than the breathlosing counterpart. The openening(Non skipable - arh!) cutscene will show you some empty water and won't progress from there, furthermore as you can't skip you're unable to do anything and must alt-F4 unless you have some kind of water fetish.

Then when I logged back in my character was standing in the place where you take the quest, however it was phased and no one was there. Oh yeah, and I was stunned and couldn't move or HS. Thankfully I was able to exit the game properly by escape or /logout.

The second time I relogged my character was back in the normal phase.

Still bugged. I am stuck on a boat with a breath bar. NPCs appear and then disappear. Predictably, I run out of breath and die.

You wait in the sub for about FIVE MINUTES while they fight. It seems like it's broken but it's not...you can't get out of the sub either that's intended.

Later, the sub lands on the sand and you might want to put a raid mark on the Captain or Shaman. Stay with them. A couple of elites come and attck but they get killed for you shortly.

More cut scenes appear and finally you get the completion and an achievement.

Blizz may have debugged this since the above posts - I found the sequence to proceed without a hitch, and turned in the quest and got the achievement. What puzzles me is whether I'm supposed to do something afterward - I'm taunted to follow Nazgrim after the tentacle grabs Erunak. I get caught in a whirlpool and dumped somewhere very deep. I look for something to do or someone to talk to and after a few seconds, I die mysteriously (I'm guessing fatigue). I rez at a graveyard near the Throne of Tides instance. Did I miss something?

On my first attempt at this quest, my game crashed and I had to restart my computer.
When I signed back on, the quest automatically restarted itself. That was the only issue that I had with the quest. The quest guy was there; didn't have to swim back. And for me as well, this was after the restarts.

Remember to follow Legionnaire Nazgrim when he goes after Erunak. You'll discover the entrance to The Throne of the Tides. In case you ever wanna do that dungeon. =D

Everyone keeps talking about "issues" but exactly what issues are you referring to? Are you all having the same or different ones? I think in all the posts above I saw one person actually explain their specific "issue." Mine is talk to Erunak, get cut scene, on the sub and npc's vanish and I'm running out of breath. Check inventory... ok, I've got a bladder still in there good for 3 mins if I need it. Half out of breath and no signs of landing at our destination so I use the bladder. 3 mins later I start running out of breath again and I'm still riding in the stupid sub. No more bladder and my hearth is on CD so I just sit there and die. Nice. Thanks Bliz, once again. So is this "the bug" everyone is talking about or is mine unique?

It is 21 January today and this is my 5th attempt at doing this quest.

I accepted the quest and spoke the the questgiver and the cinematic plays for me once more. I am really getting bored of the cinematic but I endure it regardless... and guess what? I drown on the submarine again.

I hope Blizzard fixes this soon, those buggers... I am really getting pissed off...

A game master confirmed me that "it works whenever it wants...", so there is nothing we can do about it, except wait for the next patch (current patch is 4.0.3, I think).

As hilarious as it is being in Sealion or on the Seahorse in this sub, I'm getting fed up after 20 attempts, it's STILL glitching. I'm seeing loads of people also getting trapped because of the blasted thing :/ The sub has also started disappearing on the cinematic and we keep getting taunted by bits of speech before the npcs vanish to leave us to our death.

Had this bug today, NPC's kept dissapearing, but i stayed on the boat after approx 10x going around it did finally complete, doing it bit by bit every time i hit a certain point.

So advice is stick with it, it will complete.

Still very buggy, and I have been unable to complete in in 30 tries. I see the cut screen of the ship for about 10 seconds, before I see nothing but water, and then I arrive inside. The npcs disappear after about 5 seconds, sometimes dialogue starts, sometimes not. The farthest I have gotten is when I kept clicking on the viewing stations, and I managed about 2 minutes of the talking, but they still inevitably disappeared.

And taurens can go up one of the ramps. I managed to go up the one on the left, but could not go up the one on the right. Not sure what difference it makes though... if you don't want to drown just abandon the quest, it will bring you back to the cave.

Ok, this quest went completely &*!@-up for me. I started the cinematic and it just hung there. It was focused on the ground for 5 minutes and nothing happened. I closed WoW and reopened, after which I could see my character. However, there were no NPCs and I couldn't move, hearth or cast since you "can't do that while stunned". I opened a GM ticket.

GM had me log to another character whereupon he moved my original toon back to org. I went back in and turned ALL my video options down to nothing (GM seemed to think it was causing the client trouble having them all up high) and tried the cinematic again. This time it seemed to work ok.

The GM also told me that this quest is just...universally messed up right now. Good luck if you try this!

The nagas should attack Neptulon, but they don't do anything in the cutscene. Then you pop out of the cutscene and nothing is happening. Tried everything I could imagine, relogging, swin to shimmering, abbandon and try again, but nothing works.

Just worked for me after some failed attempts.

Maybe it was just dumb luck but I did several things that might have caused it:

- Dismissed my pet
- After leaving the submarine I swam as soon as I could move to the bottom of the sub's wreckage where a naga picked me up and brought me back to Erunak.
- I didn't do anything to the waves of naga (canceled any buffy that would harm them too). I just ran around in circles until Erunak killed them.
-After getting out of the Sea Witch's Deep Freeze I swam to the edge of the Abyss and then back to Erunak. The cutscene started and surprisingly it finished.

Don't know if it helps but that's what I did.

came back did it with anotherplayer and he rode his horse and attacked all naga but the last wave and it worked! so WTF ever! (redwood twistingneather)

Still nothing with my character. I tried just standing there numerous times, to no avail. After awhile I decided to try rushing to the viewing stations, which helped progress the dialogue along to a point. So long as I kept using the stations, the dialogue kept going. But once I hit a certain point, I believe it's where Kelgrim or whoever says to land the sub, nothing. They disappeared a few seconds later, along with the viewing stations. I've decided to wait for a GM response to my ticket, but that could take awhile. I'm just sitting in the sub waiting to see if anything happens.

Bugged for me too. It plays through find until I get to part where Neptulon appears. He and the naga leader just sort of stare at each other and nothing happens. Then I get my UI back and all the NPCs vanish.

Ok so, I did the defending the rift, and like other people have said, the NPC's have disappeared and the breath bar floats above my head. So I abandoned it and relogged to see if it would help. Well I logged back in and now it claims that I am stunned and I can't move and NPC's won't even load inside the cave. Has this happened to anyone else or is it just my server? (Moon Guard)

-turn off all addons
-relog
-accept quest and do absolutly nothing, don't touch keyboard/mouse

The Neptulon cinematic seems to be bugged for some players, as of 4.0.6. Others in my guild have completed it successfully though.

Failing to attack the honour guard, as suggested by another poster for 4.0.3, made no difference. I even tried being stealthed one time so I was not even put into combat.

Uggh.. 6 attempts and no luck. Bugs out for me at the same point every time. The final scene where I assume Neptulon is supposed to fight the enemy. Camera zooms in on the two, but then nothing happens for about a minute. Then the scene ends, and I'm floating a short distance from where the scene started.

Interesting thing I haven't seen anybody else mention yet. When I come back out of the final scene, there's a copy of me standing close to the ledge of the crater, at the exact point on the map where the indicator for this quest says I should go. A couple minutes later, the copy of me dies.

On this last attempt, I decided to go stand on that spot before the cut scene starts. The result was that I got all the dialogue of the final scene, but no movie. Then it's over, and I'm just standing there (same result as all the other fails) with no copy of me.

I've tried everything posted in this thread: Did not attack any naga, swam to diff zone, logged out and back in, HS to org, then tried again, none of it helped. Guess this is one achievement I'll just give up on.

Had 5 attempts at this. The final cinematic always failed. (the dialog between Lady Naz'jar and Neptulon never started, the camera would pan around tough.)
Tried re-logging, waiting, swimming in and out. doing nothing. not mounting etc.
Final attempt worked.
I disabled all my add-ons by pressing disable all add-ons @ the char screen.
Logged in accepted the quest talked to the guy and did absolutely nothing just waited and went trough all the cinematic. i even tabbed out and read some stuff @ wowhead.
Don't worry about swimming after the npc's a naga will come pick you up and drop you at the next "checkpoint/cinematic".
The final cinematic worked and after that i could complete the quest.

Okay I can't seem to fix this bug I have tried everything from redoing it to logging off then back on from just standing there and not going anything, letting the naga bring me to the next checkpoint... The bug always seems to happen in the last video when the Lady and her "children" are welcoming the tidehunter... Now I'm guess that the tidehunter and the lady naga are suppose to fight but nothing happens they just look at each other... Anyone know another way to debug this quest so I can get it done? This quest has been giving me nothing but problems, as it seems to do for every one else. I get to the crater and go threw the cut scene where the Neptulon shows up, then it freezes for a minute or two. the NPCs disappear, and if I stick around for a while, the cut scene starts over. Tried swimming out of the area and back but then Every things gone. Tried abandoning and restarting but no dice.

I get to the sequence where the big Neptulon guy is facing the naga girl. Then it cuts back into play and i sit there on the ledge looking at both of them and nothing happens? I tried swimming to the shimmering expanse and back but that causes the quest to stop. when i get back all the fighting is gone and nothing is there any more. Im not sure how to complete this quest. I have tried it multiple times and I get the same thing every time.

I get past the sub sequence and the fighting the naga but when Neptulon and the main naga girl face eachother it just hangs there.

Any ideas?

I've tried all methods of swimming to the other areas, relogging, and not fighting anything and still can't get it to work. It seems pretty random with all the various methods of "fixing" it, so perhaps it's just an error in changing between the different phases and people more or less just get lucky with it clicking over to the next scene? Which in that case perhaps it's just persistence and/or luck paying off until Blizz goes code-hunting.

Edit: After just wading in the water typing this post, the last scene started over again, perhaps it has a re-correcting feature if there's an error in the phases... Another edit to come if/when this works or not.

Edit 2: My current phase exited once more, both the first time and this time another player was beside me when it stopped, so maybe the error has something to do about multiple people being in the same phase or starting the quest in general... Going to wade in place a bit longer to see if it will restart again and perhaps (hopefully?) continue. Another update if/when it works and what solution, if any, there was.

Edit 3: While not really an update to fixing it, the same scene continues to replay after however-many-minutes elapse. It is right before Neptulon appears when your group swims to a rock and Lady Naz'jar and goons appear. So far it has replayed about 5 times with no luck in continuing past the same point. :(

Ok, after multiple, unsuccessful attempts and frustration at this last quest.....I finally got it!

I clicked on the quest starter shaman, then didn't touch a thing....checked FB account, did a few emails, and when the cut scenes ended I was standing right in front of the turn-in spot. The "defending the rift" came up 1/1" and I was able to turn in and get the achievement.

So, give it one more try! Good luck!

I can confirm this as well. I just completed it on Fenris, Horde-side obviously. It took a minute for the actual dialogue to kick in, but I just kept going from viewport to viewport and it eventually started going.

I *think* there are a few different problems with this quest which can be grouped into

a) phasing problems - sequence doesn't start properly or NPCs are missing, etc. These can normally be fixed by swimming away & back / logging out and in / abandoning & restarting.
b) more serious issues where the sequence just 'stops' halfway. In my case it would stop after "...welcome the might Tidehunter to Azeroth!" and "Die, worm!" then the camera would just slowly pan away and...nothing.

I tried all the tricks in these comments over 2 days but it's fairly clear that (b) is something to do with the server because the only thing that genuinely works is to try it again after a server reboot. Today the first attempt bugged out right at the start (phasing issues?) so I re-logged. After that I completed it by just doing it normally (server rebooted this morning for maintenance)

Tried everything listed to get this quest to work, nothing helped. Left it for couple weeks and tried this morning. Didn't touch any of the mobs and just let the whole thing play out and it worked. Not sure if it got fixed or just got lucky. Used to get stuck on the long pan and then no NPC's part like everyone else.

Ok, I got through the quest fine. Didn't bug out or 'phase shift' me at all but there wasn't anyone else (i could see) doing the quest. The problem I have Is just after the hand-in, Nazgrim says he is going down the abyss and to quote "if I am the Undead I say I am I will follow him down" As an aussie I could not resist that =) But when I get down there Nazgrim is not in sight and there is only the NPC to send me back up to the top side.

Is this how the quest ends? It seems there is no follow on quest or anything after that point or have I done something wrong?

Date is 24 March 2011. Patch level is 4.0.6.

I turn off all add-ons, clear WoW cache completely, start the cinematic and it freezes on a blank screen with the interior of Tenebrous Cavern showing and a beeping sound in the background.

The cinematic never moves - I let it stay frozen for up to 30 minutes with no changes. I run WoW in Windowed mode, so the only way out for me is to Alt-F4 kill WoW and restart.

They've got a new bug mode, and this quest is not working at all for Horde side on Suramar.

I had tried this quest twice, to no avail due to the broken cinematic. Opening a GM ticket, it seems that if the GM teleports you out (for me, to Durotar) and then back to the cave, the phasing is fixed. After I was teleported back, the cinematic played fine. If you can't get a GM to assist you, I found that logging out on the broken cinematic, then logging in, abandoning the quest, logging out and in again will phase you back into the way the cave was before you grabbed the quest.

I could have really used a guide for this quest to illustrate each step, so I made an account here to help others who think like I do. Just to reiterate, the quest I'm speaking of is Defending the Rift for the achievement 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. I suggest turning view distance up if you can, the cutscenes look pretty neat. Technically no actions need to be "done" for this quest - it's fully possible to sit through and watch while it completes by itself.

Part One:
After the quest is accepted, a cutscene begins upon the submarine used in an earlier quest. There are usable machines on either side of the bridge area against the walls that allow for seeing what's currently happening outside. After a dialogue, the step ends.

Part two:
This step starts with another cutscene, with some dialogue from naga. When it's over there are some to slay, along with dialogue (of course). The dialogue suggests moving, but it's not required. However, be warned there is an attacking level 81 Elite naga, but he doesn't stick around long. There are two waves to this step, until everyone becomes frozen and there's some dialogue.

Part three:
A third cutscene plays, and at the end, the quest is finished and the NPC is there on the cliff available to turn in the quest and provide the achievement.

This information was compiled by 5 attempts on the same character before quest completion. Hope this helps someone. (:

THIS QUEST WILL NOT WORK IF:

-- If you have any combat pets out
-- If you have any non-combat pets out
-- If you mount at any point
-- If you interact with the naga except for healing yourself when necessary (they are bound to hit you at some point)

Additionally, when I eventually made it work I was targeting Lady Naz'jar right from her entrance until her disappearance. I don't know whether this contributed to my success or not.

No amount of any of the various recommendations in this thread allowed me to get past the part where the NPCs disappeared from the sub and I got the Breath bar.

Had to finally submit a GM ticket and resolved it that way.

Don't waste your time trying 10 different combinations of swimming here, relogging here, or hearthing here..... just submit a ticket - I had a response within 10 minutes and problem solved about 5 minutes later.

Not sure if this will help anyone, however; I was stuck for quests for "Sinking into Vashj'ir" for a long time. Decided I would just keep looking until I found something. I reacquired some quests from "Promontory Point" (42, 37) I'll see where I go from here :-) Hope this helps someone .....

OK an update :-) I did the quest line from the above mentioned NPCs and that unlocked "Defending the Rift" for me. Hope it helps...

I had the "drowning" problem on the sub,i tried all of the above,rebooted pc,cleared cookies etc etc lol and still couldnt get the quest to work grrrrr....

So i submitted a ticket,my 1st ever,20 minutes later a GM contacted me,told me to accept the quest but dont talk to Erunak,teleported me to just outside Org,the quest was complete,then teleported me to Nazgrim to hand it in and got the 20,000 leagues Achievement.

It took around 25minutes from submitting the ticket to handing the quest in,id say thats pretty quick on a saturday afternoon at 4pm.

So dont do like i did and spend hours trying over and over to do a bugged quest,sticking pins in the Blizzard voodoo doll and screaming 4 letter words at it lol,its a huge game and these things happen.

It may seem like you are stuck but look at your coords... they should be changing as if you are traveling. A dialog will start w/the NPC's on the boat. Just hang tight.

This quest is so bugged it isn't even funny. At first I had it lead to the first cutscene of the submarine, then have the NPCs despawn inside and make me start drowning. Gave up and came back later. Cutscene attempted to play, but instead the camera zoomed in on the mainland inside Tenebrous Cavern while the submarine kept making noises. It did not end.

Now, the cutscene will play, but the submarine despawns (?) and the camera continues to pan, and when it's over, the NPCs despawn again. As much as I'd like to relive the conclusion of my favorite Cata zone, I'm giving this up.

On realm Mal'Ganis, a GM named Hisurrin and I had a discussion on this.

For this quest:
1) I died in the ship because i ran "out" of air
2) I couldnt ressurect without getting sickness because my body was constantly "moving"

So..
-I ressurected with sickness.
-Made a ticket complaining about this quest.

result:
-usual VIP treatment
-he/she made me told me to go on my alt and wait.
-After 2-3 minutes he/she told me to go back on.
-Got auto-complete.

Downside:
-missed out the battle
-wasted 10 minutes
-wasted 60gold for repair.

Regarding waiting in the sub and taking a long time to land and get out. I noticed Blizz making me watch the cinematics one player at a time when more than one player is on the quest. Maybe Blizz added a player limit in the zone. For example,

My toon was going through the cinematics and phases okay.

A friend of mine doing the same quest at the same time was on the sub and waited and waited. My friend enjoyed listening to the dialog of goblins on the sub, but why have to wait? I glanced at his computer and wondered why too.

When my toon was done and the quest completed, my friend's sub immediately landed and he was able to proceed with the rest of the cinematics.

Bugged as of 2011/08/25. The initial cut scene starts and when it shows your 'toon inside the sub and the NPC's start to talk, they fade out and your "breath" bar appears above your 'toons head.

If you abandon the quest you end up back in Tenebrous Cavern where you can pick it up again. I tried methods below: clear cache, log out and back in, even restarted the game to no avail.

Opened ticket, and after 3hr got back an acknowledgement from Blizz support saying gosh they know it's bugged, but support had completed it for me, all I had to do was go out to the vortex and find Nazgrim and turn it in. At least that part worked fine. Turned in, got reward and achieve, leaped after Nazgrim into Vortex, everything works.

Freaking useless quest. Started the quest, and like others, the NPCs disappeared shortly after the cinematic ended. However, I did not have the Sea Legs buff on the sub, and was considered underwater - which meant after 3 minutes of trying to figure out what to do, my character croaked.

Of course, the useless part was that due to phasing issues, I couldn't res at my body, as it kept jumping all over the map. So I had to wear a 30g repair fee due to bad design.

Here's the response i got from the gm about this bug.

"Your hardware is chocking on the network traffic causing a known issue to occur with that scripted event."

"Basicly the game is able to adjust its load times based on the needs of the machine, unfortunately its a cut scene it's all predetermined in its space and so choke here can result in things like enviroments not loading fast enough."

Was told to check drivers and drop graphics down (even though their on ultra)

Seems a terrible reason, especially if i can manage Skyrim on ultra. Crazy eh.

I tried many times to complete this very easy quest but, the NPC's would appear, vanish, appear, vanish, say a couple lines then vanish again. One night I made it through the whole story and the ? appeared on Nazgrim but it was white ;(

Blizzard definitely knows about this problem. Vashj'ir quest chain has a number of bugs and this a a big one. When I went into the sub all the NPCs disappeared, I got a breath bar (reload ui got rid of that at least) and then I nearly died from damage from... ghosts? At that point a sent in a ticket about it and asked for help.
I didn't get to see the cinematic but blizzard did mark the quest as done for me so I could at least turn it in for the credit. Free quest, thanks

Got to this quest tonight on my Horde toon.

Upon talking to Erunak, I am taken to a cutscene showing the door of the cavern. There is no submarine, no NPC's, nothing. I hear the "beep" of the submarine's radar and that's it. I've relogged and waited a few minutes before logging back in. Still no luck and the same issues.

Looks like no 20k league achievement for me until they get this fixed.

Do not take the quest and LFR at same time, i crossed all cinematics then LFR popped up, it auto entered the raid so i couldn't finished the quest because i was in a raid -_-'

Quest was still bugged, as it seems to be for a lot of players. I did it easily with my main character, but wasn't able to complete with 2nd one.

Just opened a ticket to a GM, they solved the problem while i was offline completing the quest for me.

Got my reward, my gold and my exp :)

For those of you who have completed the quest but are unable to see the quest giver, my solution was to stay right where I was and simply type /target captain . It will target him and you will now be able to see him. Hope this helps.

Quest was bugged for me as well. The turn-in never appeared, and the quest never gave me credit, even though I saw all the cutscenes.

Out of a force of habit, I immediately trinketed out of the freeze as soon as it hit me, and I think that may of bugged it.

I abandoned the quest after several minutes of waiting, and two relogs, and then I tried omerc10696's way, I went afk (But watched the proceedings) as soon as I told Erunak I was ready. Worked just fine. After about 15-20 minutes my character was standing next to the turn-in, with the quest completed.

This quest bugs out a lot. Best part is if it fails you have to redo it again which takes 15+ minutes. So many things can go wrong in the "roleplay" cinematic it's ridiculous.

At least they could add a skip option...

I still cannot complete this quest. Its been 2+ days and This sucks I tried all of the suggestions on these here comments and still Not completing for me.

I have contacted blizzard 2 time and they tell me: Blizzard Support does not provide game hints, we feel that you may be able to find the answer you're looking for on one of our official fan sites: www.wowhead.com www.wowpedia.org, and Your fellow players - many players have had or asked the same questions you have. It feels like beating my head against a wall.

Blizzard PLEASE I AM BEGGING FIX THIS!

So, I came here after being "bugged" by the invisible NPC, which is odd because I remember it being fine when Cata came out (shows how long it's been since I've done this :P). I followed the advice below and tried the '/target captain', but still didn't find him.

One thing I suggest is that you make a macro of this and set it on your bar, once I did that and tapped it, he showed right up.

Hope this helps with yet another glitch of frustration :D

As of August 15, 2012 this quest is still incredibly bugged, I had to drop the quest three times due to bugs (one from the submarine; twice from the battle) before I messaged a GM who completed it for me after some discussion. If you choose to go this route it seems the GM will be reluctant to complete the quest for you, but if you describe the multiple bug problems, the multiple times you've tried the encounter and the fact that it has been bugged since the beginning of Cataclysm they might give it to you. Hope this helps

For some reason I can't breathe inside the sub after it has taken off and I keep on dieing for no reason. I don't know what's going on with that. Does anyone know?

Also make sure to dismount before telling the quest giver you're ready to go. Other wise it will trigger the cutscene and place you back in the cave. If this does happen, you can safely abandon the quest and pick it up to try again while dismounted.

Patch 5.3:

Some cutscenes during this event are currently bugged out. I'm doing this quest at the moment and my vision got stuck in an unanimated state after the submarine sequence had ended. I was able to continue the quest, just didn't see that one cutscene.

Luckily I've done the event countless times during these years..

Done this quest 11 times, twice the npc's haven't even been there.. and almost every other time the dialogue is completely different..

Horrible quest... sat in the sub for a long time wondering if I am supposed to be doing anything or what... kinda leaves you in the dark for a while wondering what you're doing. Finally lands I guess? I don't know, got bored and grabbed coffee, came back and I'm outside the sub.

At the end, the one guys goes into the whirlpool saying to go with him if you're brave enough, which I did... and when I landed in the bottom, there was no one there, and I couldn't get into the instance (lvl90 hunter) so, talked to the woman and teleported out. Kinda lame.

If you run into the bug where the crew disappears, just log off. Log on with an Alt, then zone to a different area. ie: hearth ( Golden lantern) then take the portal to somewhere else, (SW). Then log off the alt, then back onto the toon that is the quest. The crew should be back with everyone emoting.

Worst thing about this bug? You know, apart from the buggyness?

It's a huge and blatant bug. Yet it hasn't been fixed. The amount of abandoning and retaking and returning completely spits in the eye of the experience and lots of people won't get to see the cutscene.

When the cutscene started looping, I gave in and used a Ticket.

You need close all of your addons if you constantly get bugged with despawned NPCs. After you closing all of addons it is fixed. Finish the that step then activate all of your addons.

Being bugged and stucked in the submarine made me think. What if I log out in the sub without any NPCS (they're despawning). After 3-5 minutes I logged in again and the npcs were there, but they were silent. I did /reload and a verne goblin started speaking. It worked!

Test this out if you're still having problem being bugged by despawned npcs.

- While there is no npcs in the submarine, log out.
- Log in after some minutes and type /reload after one minute.
- Hopefully the NPC's will start speak again!

Apparently Blizzard was unable to fix this (or didn't even bother), so now you're just sent off to kill 15 nagas. No submarine, no cutscene.. nothing. Just kill 15 nagas in Abyssal Breach, and talk to Nazgrim (who's in the area now). Quite anticlimactic IMO.

GLORY BE THE DAY !

I couldnt believe it .. Blizzard finally came to their senses and abandonned the whole cutscene.

You just pick up the quest and go the (bottom of the) Abyss. Around the elites fighting you'll find the naga's circlewise.

So no more dreaded bugs, glitches, disconnects (at 19 min into the cutscene), just travel and kill.

Afterwards you speak to Nazgrim at the edge of the rim and voila .. a painfull quest cutdown from 20 min picking your nose (when you are lucky) to 3 min killing.

Sometimes miracles do happen .. even in WoW.

EDIT : it just got even better! No more cutscene with Erunak being dragged in as well .. just hand in the quest and DONE.

I can also confirm Species 3259's post above. Same thing happened to me, kill the naga and just the quest turn in for completion. No cutscene at all! I am sort of disappointed since I normally like Blizzards cutscenes but given the amount of posts on how it used to end, guess I should consider myself lucky.

So i've just completed this quest for the first time since Cata, and i must say i'm very frustrated and disappointed right now. Not only by such an awesome experience filled with epic battles and cutscenes being scrapped, but also by a lore hole which was introduced by this. Noone will ever see the submarine in action, the fights with the naga, the epic Neptulon's defeat and the kidnapping of Erunak again.

Now i understand that this quest was buggy for loads of people, but just scrapping it is a very lame move in my opinion.

This is rather irritating, but I abandoned the quest and now can't restart it! Is it supposed to be in the cave? or am I missing something (which is highly likely) its just I wanted to finish this zone and this is just a kick in the gut..

I can't seem to get the quest to work for me, I've accepted it, abandoned it, and accepted it again at least three times. It won't let me speak to Eurnak Stonespeaker to begin the cinematic. Nor am I able to manually swim down to the breach to kill the 15 naga there because there aren't any around.

Help? What do I need to do to get this done? trying to get the 20,000 Leagues under the Sea achievement.

I was so not seeing any naga to kill for this quest. The only enemies I saw were the maulers... so I decided to kill a couple of them to see what happened. Turns out, when you get all the way down to the sea floor, the naga appear. They're much smaller than the rest of the creatures battling so you can't see them if you're swimming too far above the battle.

In the AbyssaI Breach quest, DEFENDING THE RIFT, I killed 15 naga and met up with Nazgrim.
Got my loot and then he says, " I am going in after Erunak. Follow me Crispee!"
He then swims away and I lost him...
I swam back to the Tenerbrous Cavern and tried to speak to Erunak but there is no quest. There is no available quest now? I am stuck.
Google has shown me the next sequence should be getting on the sub (I think?) but I cant get that quest.

I may be just being tired after many hours but can anyone tell me where I should be going now? Did Nazgrim swim somewhere else that I need to meet him?

For the people who went looking at guides and finding that the quest didn't run the same, here is why:

The Throne of Tides is now a dungeon in Warlords of Draenor.

So, instead of clicking the quest giver and experiencing a cinematic, you must, instead, hop on your little seahorse and manually ride all the way into the Abyssal Depths to kill the Naga.

I didn't see them at first (which led to my initial confusion), but they're mainly at the very bottom, fighting those other mobs of Faceless Defilers and whatnot.

For most people, a guide or walk-through isn't really required, but for people like me who felt they were missing something and didn't know where the mobs were when they got there, it's helpful to know that the quest has changed quite a bit from the original.

Kill 15 nagas (right down on seabed level) - hand in to Nazgrim and that's it!

(if you follow Naz down the plughole you end up near the dungeon entrance - Naz is actually inside and tells you to rescue Erunak - which in the original semi cut scene stuff - the original zone end big thing - he was captured)

Gotta agree with others - its a shame they didn't fix and reinstate the cool original stuff - my alts need closure !

If you are like me and need to go to Vashj'ir at max level you will not get the 'To the Depth' quest because it is not offered after 'The Eye of the Storm' quest.

So instead: Go to Bladefist Bay and talk to the commander in the tower (ground floor) to start the quest line from there.
