I have broken down all of the current masteries into two categories: unique, interesting masteries and flat bonus masteries.

Why this mastery needs to be more interesting (tldr: it's boring and should be made fun, like Blizzard promised)
Blizzard’s main reasoning behind the recent talent changes was to eliminate the ‘boring’ talents that, for example, only increased damage by x%. The mastery system was supposed to provide each spec with a fun, unique mechanic that would replace some of the boring talents while still providing a damage increase. I feel that Blizzard dropped the ball on this entire system. As you can see, only half of the existing specs got ‘interesting’ mastery mechanisms; the rest still only increase the effectiveness of certain abilities by x%. In the end, all of the masteries provide the exact same amount of increase (in theory), but I think for the amount of money we are all paying them, Blizzard should give all specs interesting mechanisms.

I have a question... does this talent increase damage done by envenom? Or is it simply poison damage? I have a feeling it's just poison, but I wasn't sure.

Questions about PvE Assassination Rogues

Has anyone decided what stat they are going to reforge/gem/enchant their gear into? Should I be spreading everything between Crit, Haste and Mastery, or is there one that I should overload. Since a properly designed assassination rogue should have most of it's damage being dealt from poisons (instant and deadly, respectively), should I stack mastery? On the same foot, hitting more often (increase in haste) could provide the same benefit. I also understand that poisons can crit now, making me wonder if should go old school and stack up crit. I haven't really noticed any discussion on any of this.

After my own investigative work, I still believe that Assassination Rogues are producing the most single target boss dps for rogues, but I've witnessed some fairly convincing arguments for Combat Rogues. Does anyone else have any different experiences or thoughts?

The Assassination Tree is definitely the best way for Rogues to roll for PvE. They also happen to produce one of the highest amounts of DPS overall. Mages and Unholy DK's are currently a little better off, but it appears as though the next patch will nerf them a bit.

I did finally find a chart to answer my question from above, although I'm unsure of the source of the information. Throughout my trial and error, I've found this to be spot on accurate.

How to use this: These values are essentially weights for each skill. If an item gives you 200 agility, it's producing a weighted value of 520 (200*2.6). If you had a choice to either take 200 agility or 500 crit, the weighted value table tells you to take the 200 agility (200*2.6=520 or 500*0.9=450).

How this effects us: If your Assassination Rogue's cloak is enchanted with the +50 crit enchant (cataclysm), you'd actually be better off re-enchanting your cloak with the +22 agility enchant (WotLK) (50*0.9=45 or 22*2.6=57.2). However, if you've moved up to the +65 crit enchant, you'd be a little better off (65*0.9=58.5). Take this table into consideration when choosing gems. For any blue gem spot, use Glinting Demonseye as opposed to straight up +40 Hit. Instead of taking +40 Haste or Mastery for a yellow gem spot, use Adept Ember Topaz. Finally, you'd obviously want to use Delicate Inferno Ruby for red spots, & in ANY colored spot when the slot bonus does not maximize the overall weighted value. The +40 agility gem will produce a value of 104 by itself. Therefore, don't put a +20 agility and +20 mastery in a yellow gem spot when the slot bonus is only 10 haste (40*2.6>20*2.6+20*1.3+10*1.2).

I realize this is a ton of information to take in, so feel free to ask questions. You will put yourself in the best situation to be the best dps'r if you use this table for choosing gear, reforging gear, gemming, and enchanting. I hope you all enjoy.

As of patch 4.0.6, this stat increases Envenom and Venomous Wounds damage.

Formerly known as potent Poisons, this is now an ability that increases the damage of your bleeds and poison effects. However, like many other masteries, this will only count for poisons and bleeds that are a result of rogue abilities.

Meaning, You would see a damage increase to Garrote, Rupture, Envenom, weapon poisons, and any talent that deals bleed or nature damage.

You would NOT see any benifit from weapon enchants, trinkets, or any other source that deals these kinds of damage that aren't rogue abilities.
