Abandoning the quest will not allow you to see other dialog choices. As of the first day of the patch, the optional dialogues remain completed, and you will need to reload your UI to complete the mandatory parts of the quest again.

Talking to Narvra during this quest, when mentioning to her that you get saved sometimes too, I had the option of telling her about being being saved from the legion ship at the end of Tomb of Sargeras! Seems there's a bunch of options you can unlock by doing certain quests/raids wherein you get saved by other characters. Love quests like these!

Honestly, what a great quest. Taking your time to read through all the dialogue options was really rewarding. Talking to Veritistrasz and Voraxian about their friendship, to Rupert why the elements are upset, to the leader why it is okay to show weakness and to the Mechagnome how being in Zaralek Cavern is already a big enough discovery. I suggest you take your time with this quest.

There's a slight continuity error in Rupert, the Gentleman Elemental's dialogue.

This part of his dialogue refers to the events of Cataclysm, which took place between 28 ADP (After Dark Portal) and 29 ADP, 11-12 years ago.

Well, you might find yourself a tad aggressive if the land you were bound to was torn asunder by an insane Earth-Warder.

Legion, 32-33 ADP, 7-8 years ago.

Then, as you started to recover, you were stabbed with a giant Titan sword.

Shadowlands, 35-36 ADP, 4-5 years ago.

Then, as you started to recover yet again, you had your very essence nearly sucked into the realms of Death.

He ends his dialogue by saying the following, which does not line up with the amount of time that's elapsed since Cataclysm, the first event he refers to, as Dragonflight is currently taking place during 40 ADP according to official sources.

It has been quite the two decades is all I am saying.

For it to have been two decades, it would have to be 48 ADP or 49 ADP, which does not make sense since I don't think there's any indication that we've been stuck on the Dragon Isles for almost a decade between 10.0 and 10.1.

It would have been more accurate for him to say "it has been quite the decade is all I am saying" since you can hardly round 11-12 up to 20.

This is a tremendous little quest and shows the devs really do put love into the game.

There are dialog options and plenty of callbacks to prior events in the game. There's actual coding to look at things your character has done previously, to bring up in the conversation. There's heart.

It's so good, I had to gush a little. I love an RPG when there's actually immersion and even the smallest number of options to affect the outcome of something so simple as a discussion with an NPC.

This quest seems to bug out occasionally where none of the NPCs can be interacted with. If that's the case, you'll need to wait about 5 minutes and then they can suddenly be interacted with again. Reloading UI didn't help. Not sure why this happens, but has happened on 2 of my alts now.

Anyone know what happens if you ask Veritistrasz about his and Voraxian's friendship? Or what the elemental says if you speak with him? I couldn't go back to that dialogue option even abandoning/retaking :(

Telling an orc that its "okay to not be okay" and asking dragons and a living rock about their feelings. I thought they were joking when people commented on the "bluehair" dialogues of this expansion. Metzen save us from this children's cartoon.

EDIT: And the new expansion seems to have purged these writers, thank god :)

Since once you've spoken to each NPC during Respite, the game won't let you speak with them again (even after abandoning and re-accepting the quest), I decided to copy down all the dialogue with each NPC, verbatim (errors and all), for anyone who missed it and wants to read it, or who selected a different option and was curious what the other options get as a response (though I don't think the responses are much different anyway).

Verbatim dialogue with NPCs during Respite (Part 1 of 2) :

When speaking with Chef Butterfingers:

Player: How did you prepare this food so quickly?

I'm a good cook is how! Ok, it's not one of those fancy Tuskarr feasts I keep hearing people yammer on about, but I didn't have much time, and everyone needed something warm in their belly.

Sometimes you can make something tasty, and quick, and healthy! Not often mind, and it's not exactly high cuisine, but it'll do in a pinch.

Player: Have you always enjoyed cooking?

Yeah, I've been cooking since I was a kid, my ma said she could barely get me outta the kitchen.

I just like to see the looks on peoples faces when they eat good food you know? The difference between a slammed together cheese sandwich, and one made with love is night and day.

Unless you are like Tellywin, in which case apparently "Food is just food".

Player: Your food is having a positive effect on everyone, their spirits seem to be lifting.

You noticed that too huh? Nice to see right?

You a cook yourself?

Player: I consider myself a good chef.

(Unfortunately, I forgot to get a screenshot of his response here, so I can't type it up; I'm sorry! :(
However, I do know that whatever he said here was the last thing he said, and then the conversation ended.)

When speaking with Veritistrasz:

Player: How are you doing?

Not bad, thank you. It feels good to be helping people once again, although I do with it were under better circumstances.

Player: What brought you here?

After you and I talked at the Ruby Lifeshrine, I met Voraxian. We have been talking, and he knows I want to help the black flight.

After we heard about this place, it seemed like a good opportunity. We have been a bit delayed, but these people needed our help.

Player: What's next for you?

We will head towards Neltharion's lab here and see if the black flight needs help.

Voraxian wants to learn about his flight's history, and I want to be there for him when he does. I fear it will not be as positive as he hopes.

Player: I'm glad you are doing well. (<-- I chose this.)
Player: <Nod and turn to talk to another member of camp.>

Thank you <name>. In many ways, I am here because of you.

It feels good to be back in the world once again.

When speaking with Earthmender Narvra:

Player: How are you doing?

Oh, I'm doing well. I just want to make sure that the team is doing well.

I'm fine. Don't worry about me.

Player: It's okay to not be okay.

No, I need to hold it together for everyone else.

They need a strong leader.

Player: It takes strength to admit you need help.

I failed my team. It was their first time on a mission. I was the only veteran, and I failed them.

Sheridon is dead. Everyone else int he team was severely injured. If you and the dragons hadn't turned up when you did, we would all have died.

I... don't think I should be leading this team.

Player: I have been saved by others too. There is no shame in needing help.

Hah, you have been saved by others? You are the great <name>! From what I hear you are the one that does the saving.

Every story I have heard of you has you defeating the greatest threats to Azeroth and walking away with your head held high.

Player: I would have been killed by the Lich King if not for Tiron Fordring.
Player: Illidan and Khadgar saved me from being blown up on Kil'Jaeden's ship. (<-- I chose this.)
Player: Khadgar and Kalecgos saved me from the Incarnates.
Player: Ebyssian saved me from Fyrakk.
(Idk if there are more options that can appear here. It sounds like her response may be the same regardless.)

I... have to admit, I hadn't heard that part of your tales. I guess you only ever hear the victory part.

If even you need help sometimes, then maybe it isn't a weakness. Thank you, <name>.

When speaking with Tellywin Sharpfizzle:

Player: Those are impressive swords. Are you the warrior of the group?

No, that was Sheridon. He... managed to distract the djaradin long enough for us to get away.

Honestly, I don't even know how to use them, other than stick the pointy end in the other person.

Player: Why do you have the swords if you don't know how to use them?

Because everything is bigger than me.

Take wasps, or snakes or whatever, they've got fangs, stingers, you don't mess with them.

Then you have the things that look like wasps and snakes and you think "Oh, that looks bad, going to stay away from that".

Same thing with the swords, it deters. Although... not enough, apparently.

Player: I could give you a few tips on swords, if you are interested.

No, thanks though. I'm really more a book sort of person.

That's what drew me to the Dragonscale Expedition. The only thing better than reading about old things is finding old things and figuring out what they are for other people to read about!

Or at least, I think so. This was my first outing. I haven't actually discovered anything new yet.

Player: You are in an underground cavern that was Neltharion's secret base of operations.

Well, yeah, but there are other people down here as well. It's not that special; it's just a thing that happened.

It's not like I did anything to discover the cavern. I just walked in.

Player: Things rarely feel special to the people they are happening to.

Huh... I hadn't thought of it like that.

I guess if it wasn't happening to me, I would be interested in reading about it.

Hmm, these crystals are different from the ones we've seen above ground...

<Tellywin absentmindedly stops talking and starts furiously writing in his journal.>

I have to split this into two comments because I actually ran out of characters (I've never done that on Wowhead before!)... so the exact dialogue with Rupert, the Gentleman Elemental and the paraphrased dialogue with Voraxian (and an explanation for why it's paraphrased rather than verbatim) will be in that 2nd comment.

Player: Why are you so different from other earth elementals?

I am not sure I understand the question.

You are different from others of your race, are you not?

Player: I'm not that different.
Player: I suppose I am. (<-- I chose this.)

Exactly: our climbing adventures alone would be enough for me to know that you are an uncommonly brave person with the way you propel yourself from one rock to another with no care in the world.

I am terrified of heights. I do not know how you do it.

Player: I meant that most earth elementals on the isles have been aggressive so far.

I prefer to rely on diplomacy where possible. It seems to me that most mortals are trying to help Azeroth. Holding the many accountable for the actions of the few rarely gets you anything except hate and violence.

I prefer to try to bring us together rather than push us apart. That is much easier to do from the inside, as it were.

Player: I am glad you are with the team. (<-- I chose this.)
Player: <Nod and talk to someone else.>

Unfortunately, for Voraxian, I will have to paraphrase the conversation and dialogue options. Due to a bug, it is possible to speak with him prior to accepting Respite, so I had done that... and at the time, I had no idea that I would only be able to go through the dialogue once, so I did not take screenshots of the dialogue (and I do not have photographic memory). As such, this is the only dialogue for which I cannot provide a verbatim transcription. I apologize for that.

Here is the entirely paraphrased conversation with Voraxian:
(Everything is paraphrased except for the quoted bit at the very end, which is copied verbatim.)

Player: "How have you been doing?"

He will respond with some small talk, saying that he's still trying to learn how to speak with mortals. He was told that talking about the weather is generally a good idea.

Player: "What brought you to the Caverns in the first place?"

He will then tell you that he is looking for "historical black dragon booty" and ask if he is using the word "booty" correctly.

Player: "Um, that's not quite what 'booty' means..."
Player: "Yes, you are using the word 'booty' correctly." (<-- I chose this.)

( The following response is the verbatim response to the above-chosen paraphrased dialogue option: )

Excellent! I was worried at Evorian was trying to prank me after I told him the Dragonscale Expedition was trying to collect scales from each dragon.

Naleidea's face when he peeled off a scale to hand to her was... quite something.

And that's it! That's all the dialogue for the options I chose with each NPC. Hopefully, other players will jot down the responses they received when they chose alternate dialogue options, or at least corroborate whether the responses are the same regardless of the dialogue options chosen!

Hopefully this was useful to someone because it took... a while, haha.

I really enjoyed this quest! I wholeheartedly hope to see more quests like this in future expansions. <3
