The new event goes like this:

You fight The Abominable Greench and he now has over 3 million health! (Note that he looks nothing like his former self "Racksum Greep".)
You do not need to be in the same group as the one that tagged him, simply fight the boss and when he dies you can loot sacks of the stolen goods in the cave (the one right behind him, stuffed with those Christmas trees, presents and what not.) The reindeer will automatically be credited to you, you can always talk to it too if it makes you feel better.
You do not need a tank, a plate DPS can take his hits but I wouldn't solo him because of his large health pool. Still if few in numbers be nice and throw some heal or two on the one taking damage.

It's a daily, each day you do it you have a chance to loot Lump of Coal from the rewarded Stolen Present -good luck and Marry Christmas!

He usually spawns at 30,60. Sometimes 30,55 then a bit south and closer to the quest giver (Snowman).
It's a random spawn between the 3 locations, but I've seen him spawning mostly at 30,60.

Make that advanced macro and spam it, once he is up you will make sure you and your
party knows he is up at your location! Just tag him with a low ranked spell and let him hit you until your
party members arrive at your location, as a 70 you can stand there for ages. ;)

He is camped by a lot of 70 so if you are lower level ask a pal for help.. try to group up with 5 others
and camp each spot, tag and tell party he is at your spot. If I am you don't help killing because it might
result you getting killed by a angry alliance party that only half got the loot and the other half didn't
because they were too far away. :P

He's not hard to down, but best to take along a couple of friends since there seems to be tonnes of Horde / Alliance trying to down the Greench.

They Abominable Greench yells "Raaaaaar!" when he spawns, and will sometimes turn you into a snowman, stunning you for a few seconds.

i went this morning just before the down time for backup. i saw 1 ally warlock, and i was the only one there. i just cruised around the yeti mobs 'til i found him. he was all alone walking around just waiting to be taken down. total time 2 min. i guessed right about the west coast being asleep at this time of day

He wasn't anywhere near where i found him dead....wandered around that spot by the ogres for about 10 min. before i decided to check else where. The greench wasn't even in the snowy part of the mountain. When you leave the quest giver go left and u should see him. When i killed him he respawned almost instantly.

yeah i found him both times at 31,48 but the first time (and i thought i had attacked him first) an ally hunter level 80 hit him before me (a level 37 druid) but the next time was like 20 minutes or so later .... so that spawn time took FOREVER ... and i never saw a RAWRRR except when he spawned right in front of me lol

This quest has been changed as of 4.3. It now appears to be a Daily Group quest, requiring lvl 80 to pick it up. Also, it rewards Stolen Present. Perhaps Blizzard made the Greench into an Un-Instanced Holiday Boss rather than have a LFD thing like previous Holidays.

Edit: Stolen Present will have a chance to contain Lump of Coal, some Justice Points if you are not capped, as well as other assorted holiday pets and toys.

I just looted the quest item from the cave when someone else had killed the boss and delivered the quest. An an Epic quality dagger dropped from the Stolen Present Container!

Facts:
In Cataclysm Patch it has 3,4 million health.

In the new Cataclysm Patch it has a new look.
Old one looked like this: Alterac Yeti but with grey colour.
New one looks like this: Icemane Yeti but with green colour and with santa gnomes standing on its horns.

When killed, Stolen Threats will spawn outside the cave and Metzen will be free.

Location:
He spawns outside the Growless Cave in Hillsbrad Foothills, east of Dalaran Crater.

Tactics:
He does NOT hit that hard on people with tank gear and may be soloable as tank.

Anyhow; it will throw snowmen to the ground and if you stand too close to it you'll get frozen for 4 seconds. Just run away from it when it spawns behind you.
it will also throw random christmas trees around with a shiny star on the top. Dont stand close to it because he'll charge to it and use a very painful Tauren Stomp-looking attack called "Abominable Crush" which hits around ~95k.
Sometimes he'll use a snare-looking spell called "Shrink Heart" that snares you for around 1 second.

If the Greench is already dead (by your group or another), all you need to do is talk to the reindeer, and loot the stolen treats.

Well, I am pretty proud of myself and a small group! We just killed the Greench. My "group' consisted of a mage, an Alli priest, and me, a hunter with pretty low dps. Just sent my pet in to tank and we all stayed as far back as we could. I cannot believe we actually killed him! :)

As an FYI- There are usually mobs of players, both Horde and Alliance there, to kill the Greench. All you have to do is be in the area and wait until he is dead, and go grab a treat from the sacks. Don't go into the cave itself, this is all outside of the cave. If you go in you might become stuck :/

Thank goodness Blizz nerfed the daylights out of this quest.

I don't know about other realms, but the one I play on the most, people don't seem to comprehend the idea of grouping up to do things like this. All 5 players in the group complete the quest, so it's not like you're losing out on anything by grouping up.

But there were always about 50 people out waiting for this dude to spawn, every one of them not in a group. So you had to hang around forever, trying to tag him 0.01 seconds after he spawned and before somebody else did.

And then you'd go to Tanaris to free the reindeer, and run into the exact same situation there.

You can make this daily a quick trip by finding a mage with Ancient Tome of Portal: Dalaran. The portal they will open for you drops you in mid-air (so bring your slow-fall spells/trinkets/etc.) over the old Dalaran Crater right next to the Greench daily quest area. (Make sure the portal they use is Ancient Dalaran, not the regular Dalaran!)

If you set your Hearthstone to Org before you leave, the entire travel time for the daily is minimal.

This is now VERY easy.
If there's NO Greench, or he's dead, just talk to Metzen the Reindeer to free him :)
Then go and get a stolen present.
I've turned up and assisted the kill and when the Greench's corpse is present and received completion of freeing Metzen.
Also turned up when the Greench was NOT present, talked to Metzen and received the "Free Metzen" part :)
But, if Metzen's not around, then you have to wait for and kill the Greench. Maybe I was just lucky.

Just turning up when the Greench is a visible corpse is enough to free Metzen :)

For those who have tons of characters level 80+ like myself. You may end up doing the quest multiple times, forgetting which ones have or have not done the quest.

So for people like me, and if you have Horde and Alliance characters here are both scripts.

For some reason, this quest is still handing out the old 2014-15 Stolen Present instead of the new 2015-16 Stolen Present. Perhaps they'll fix it soon?

Edit: At this point it seems pretty clear they've modified the old one instead of rewarding the new one. Lounge Cushions can now be found in the old one, while last year they came from Gently Shaken Gift. Oddly, they did use a new Gently Shaken Gift item for the first time, while this present, which has historically been new every year, was recycled.

As said before on hunting rares... If youre having issues doing this quest, because lets say Alliance or Horde is camping or youre just the one trying the do the quest at 4am...

Go to the Premade group finder, type Grumpus, Grump.. or something like that and youll surely find someone else trying to finish their quest. Cake.

Strange glitch, don't do what I did and go in cave. Thought I had to go in there as before. Got stuck and couldn't get out! There is a tree in the door and you can't get past it. Weird I could get in but couldn't get out. :( HS was on cd so had to use stuck. Pain portaling back from garrison. When I went back to do the quest the cave was blocked from outside so not sure how I was phased out that I could get in it in the first place. Just a warning if it happens to you.

If you really needed one of those toys or illusions you could just do the following:

-Create a Dwarven Mage via class trial

-As soon as you log in use Teleport: Ironforge and pick up You're a Mean One...

-Fly to Hillsbrad Foothills and complete the quest.

-Use Teleport: Ironforge once again and turn in the Quest (Don't forget to turn in A Smokywood Pastures' Thank You! aswell.)

-After that just delete the character and do steps 1-4 again.

In case you have lots of alts and 1 mage. You can make Portal your own alts:
1. Login Mage, creates a Premade, enable Auto Invite
2. Mage create Portal, logout
3. Relog to alt, join the Premade, pick the quest and CLICK the portal

Beware you need to do it efficiently, your alts should be close to the portal and quest giver or the portal will despawn.

Untill 2015, you could just fly to the area, and still complete the quest if people killed him in the last 1-5 minutes, since you could still talk to the Reindeer. In 2016 blizz seems to have made the Reindeer to despawn really fast once the Greench is killed and he is freed, making the quest to take a bit longer on people trying to do it on alts.

Before this you could fly all toons with the quest to the area, log on a tank, kill Greench, completing the quest and logging out and on the alts to auto-complete it...

All these talks of making mage alts and portals to get to the Greench is silly....

Just make a stack of Goblin Gliders for all your toons that'll run that quest during the holiday
Grab your quest in Org/IF
Hearth to Legion Dalaran
Take the Dalaran Crater portal
Pop your Goblin Glider to safety
Fly a few yards or so and kill the Greench
Hearth/guild teleport cloak back to Org/IF to turn in quest

Way less complicated and quicker than mages and flying from cities.

This is how you farm Savage Gift and Stolen Present efficiently on multiple toons. Characters must be level 100 or higher and have a level 3 garrison.

Park all of your eligible toons in their garrisons.

Make sure you're hearthed in either Ironforge if you're Alliance and Orgrimmar if you're Horde or in your faction's Shrine in Pandaria.

Start each day by picking up the 4 Winter Veil dailies in your garrison

Menacing Grumplings
What Horrible Presents!
Where Are the Children?

from Pizzle if you are Horde or Almie if you are Alliance

It's about a 5 minute flight to Grumpus (Frostfire Ridge 45, 28) from the Alliance garrison. If it's your first time there make sure and pick up the Bloodmaul Slag Mines flight path at 51, 21 to make the later runs a bit less monotonous. For Horde it takes about a minute to fly there from your garrison.

Complete the 4 dailies.

It will usually take about 5 minutes to do all 4 quests, depending on the player traffic. *NOTE* - As of 5am maintenance on 12/19/2017 everything here scales with you so no one shotting the mobs any more, and the trash that dropped from them seems to either not drop for 110's or the rate is so low it doesn't even register.

Use your Dalaran Hearthstone . Take the Dalaran Crater portal (make sure you're prepared against the fall with Goblin Glider Kit or any toy/buff/spell/etc that slows falling or negates damage).

Fly to Growless Cave (Hillsbrad Foothills 44, 39).

Pick up You're a Mean One... or You're a Mean One... from Strange Snowman

You don't need to even tag the Greench just hang around until he's dead then talk to Metzen the Reindeer and grab a Stolen Treats

Use your Hearthstone to return to either Org/ IF or your Shrine then portal to Org/ IF. Turn in You're a Mean One... or You're a Mean One... for a Stolen Present

Use your Garrison Hearthstone Turn in the 4 Winter Veil dailies to
Izzy Hollyfizzle for 5 Merry Supplies which will buy you a Savage Gift from this same NPC.

Rinse and repeat on your alts. Takes under 15 minutes each if you don't have ADHD like me.

FASTEST WAT TO THE GREENCH!
Seems lot of people are flying from Ironforge which takes a long time.
First, make sure your seat back and folding trays are in their full upright position!
Second, you must be in New Dalaran. Go to the Middle, literally, and stand on the Circle which will port you underneath it. The Middle where you can enter between the pylons on any of the sides. It will port you below where you are. If it doesn't, contact customer serv.... warit: Don't do that! Just back up, and try again.
Once down there, walk to the end where you will see portals. The 2nd from the right is the Dalaran Crater aka "The oh crap, I should have been prepared Portal ><".

***Important***
Once you click the Portal, you will fall to your death if you do not have a Goblin Glider Kit, or if you are not a Druid, Mage or Engineer with their own brand of gliding (or really tough and have a bunch of health and lots of gold to spend on repairs). Hell, even an Umbrella to slow your fall. But, if you use one, you will be laughed at by the Poppins club so be strong!

Literally anything that will stop you from hitting the ground at Terminal Velocity and ending up in a pile of goo is good.
Once there, it's a very short flight to the Greench.

Grats! Now you have just done what I forgot all about and did not face-plant at 2000 pixels per second inspiring future generations to come and Laugh at your lack of preparation and the small-er Dalaran Crater!

With 8.1 changes to the shrines' portals, and if you're after the other faction old toys, AND you have lowbies to try too. Ask for some mage to get you a portal to the Broken Isles Dalaran, and set hearthstone there. This way you'll have a fast travel to Hillsbrad Foothills (from the chamber of the guardian area in the middle, you no longer die from the fall but you'll take a lot of damage though if you don't use any slow fall mechanisms) and to Ironforge.

Just do these steps on every toon available for the daily untill you get what you want:

Make sure they are previously on Broken Isles' Dalaran.
Go to Hillsbrad, grab daily there, do it.
Hearth back to Broken Isles' Dalaran, then head to Ironforge portal, to turn in the quest.
Get the toy you want. If not, rinse from another character.

If you want to do is on a low level character, I suggest taking a portal to Undercity, which is actually fairly close to the greench. It's slightly further away than the dalaran crater teleport, but if you don't want to deal with getting a mage portal there that's probably the easiest way to get there otherwise.

2021 dec, the quest gave my lvl50 toons the Stolen Present with toys in it. So you can farm this with 50s!
I beleive last year they gave it to lvl60s only.

This quest is the newer/updated version of Metzen the Reindeer, which used to be needed for the Merrymaker meta-achievement; now, this one (You're a Mean One.../You're a Mean One...) is required.

As of December 2022 in Dragonflight the reward from this quest is a Stolen Gift and NOT Stolen Present
This should be updated ASAP so we can start collecting toys and Illusions this year!

EDIT: Level 50 and 60 characters still get Stolen Present so that's good at least!

EDIT 2: After the update level 50s can no longer get Stolen Present, now they are instead getting Stolen Gift. 60s and 70s still get
Stolen Present

Currently Stolen Gift is rewarded for level 70 players along with some Bonus Experience. It's not recommended to do the quest until Blizzard fixes the issue as this version does not have a chance to drop the rare items.

Edit: This has been hotfixed for level 70 players and correctly rewards Stolen Present.

The Greench throws a little tree and then charges it, avoid being in the tree's radius and you will not get thrown into the air. The fall damage hurts. The Greench will spawn a snowman which will freeze you. Once again, simply step out of the snowman's radius and you will avoid getting frozen. Essentially, just run in a circle slowly avoiding these two mechanics and I imagine you will be able to solo this guy fairly easily with most--if not all--classes.

Thanks to the Greench I realized that I've become complacent due to playing solo-capable classes for so long and tend to ignore mechanics when I don't have to learn them.
Most players probably will not need this--for want of a better word--explanation. Good on them for not becoming as lazy as I have become. Nevertheless, I've left this in case somebody else didn't realize what to do here.

Note: this tutorial is for Horde version of the quest. Alliance version is here.

Horde players can get to the quest location in following ways:

Use portal from Orgrimar to the Silvermoon City. Go to the Inner Sanctum (/way 49.46 14.76), up the ramp and click on Orb of Translocation in the middle to go to Trisfal Glades or Undercity (you can ask Zidormi to change zone version). Then fly to the quest location.
Direct portal from Legion Dalaran to old Dalaran location in Hillsbrad Foothills was very handy in 7.x, but starting from 8.0 it is open only if you are on relevant quest. Use it if you can access it, just make sure you use some kind of slow fall, as you will appear in the midair.
Mages can use Ancient Teleport: Dalaran or Ancient Portal: Dalaran to get to old Dalaran location too. Also remember to use some slowfall, or use teleport when on flying mount.
Mages also have teleport and portal to Undercity, so use them if you do not have ones to Dalaran Crater.
Closest Hearthstone location is at Tarren Mill in Hillsbrad Foothills. I recommend going there when you complete this quest for the first time and set your HS, so you could get there faster next time.

Vulperas can make their camp somewhere close to the quest area.
When Horder controls Arathi Highlands, you can use portal in Dazar'alor (Zuldazar) to get there.
Druids can use the Dreamway to Hinterlands. Portal leads to east side of Hinterlands, Seradane.

Also remember that you can get this quest from Strange Snowman in Hillsbrad Foothills, so you do not have to start from Orgrimar.

You can return to the Orgrimar in following ways:

Mages can use portal or teleport to Orgrimar. If you are not a mage you can ask everyone for portal after the battle, some friendly mage player may open one for you.
You can set your Hearthstone to Orgrimar if you want.
Teleport yourself to Orgrimar using guild cloaks (Cloak of Coordination, Wrap of Unity, Shroud of Cooperation). You can also use your HS to get to some main city (e.g. Valdrakken) and use Orgrimar portal there. Also remember about Dalaran Hearthstone and Garrison Hearthstone if you unlocked them.
Vulperas can make their camp in Orgrimar too.

If you are rogue, you can use Scroll of Teleport: Ravenholdt to get very close
Also you can return via Dalaran Hearthstone > port to capital. If you don't have this - it's very easy to get.

If you just missed tagging The Abominable Greench look for Metzen the Reindeer as he may still be up, and talking to him should give you credit too (there is a speech option in the dialog to click)
Of course also loot the Stolen Treats

Description

A creature called "The Abominable Greench" stole our shipment of treats, <name>. Be careful though! He's vicious and a bunch of those little green gnomes do his bidding!

You're gonna need some help in facing him. Rumor has it he's holding our treats and our beloved Metzen the Reindeer at Growless Cave in the Hillsbrad Foothills! Find the treats <name> and bring them back before the celebration is ruined and all the children of Orgrimmar are disappointed!
