You are able to complete this with a heroic dungeon. It does not need to be mythic.

Note that as of "week 2" of Shadowlands if you leveled via "Threads of Fate" and reached Renown 6 (current cap) before turning this quest in you will NOT get the "+1 Renown" as a reward.

Interesting oversight by Blizzard as technically this quest should have let you get to Renown 7.

Just completed a mythic +2 Spires of Ascension in-time and killing Devos did not grant quest credit.

You would think Blizzard had surpassed themselves from the unreasonable obsession of forcing players to go to dungeons for character progression, as it was with professions (Draenor) and in other segments of char leveling.

Here you can see -- they haven't. Now the turning down is for the Kirian campaign.

If you selected Kirian as your covenant, you'll reach this block in your progression if you really don't care about dungeon/raids as much as you did years ago, or if you're new and not interested in wasting your time with brats complaining all the time. And also for older players, who aren't that crazy about the group hunt anymore, with all its hassles, this is highly disapointing.

Honestly, I can't think of this game policy as sustainable, as players tend to lose interest in those grouped missions. At least for a good while like myself.

Sadly this is now the case with Kirians, as far as I know. I got 2 alts, one with Night Fae and another with Necrolords. They've gone smoothly in their progression, as well as the renown growth and campaign completion, gear rank raise, etc. But, not the poor Kirian alt... sigh... Truly considering changing covenant.

Devos should have been killed scenario-style in the previous quest, and the dungeon could have some other random guy for an end boss and not been involved in the covenant story-line.

Forcing people in just ONE of the covenants to run a dungeon is just damned stupid.

Despise dungeons, raids cuz i suck. Why does Blizzard tend to force persons into doing these just so the storyline can be continued. Just being honest. Please don't flame me to bad. After all I could be in one of your groups and then you would see I wasn't lying. Enjoy the game, just don't like having to burden others with my inept playing. N yes I enjoy Torghast as I can solo play it and suck to my hearts content *grins*

Why does the Kyrian chapter need a dungeon run for progression when no other covenants make you do a dungeon to complete their chapter? Not everyone does dungeons think Blizz would know that by now.

I totally agree that Blizz should not make us do a dungeon in order to continue a story line! However...as adults (those of us that are) we are forced to do things we don't want to do on a pretty regular basis. Not trying to be rude but suck it up! Hell, if you suck at dungeons, there are 4 more peeps to take up your slack, which is the norm for most LFG instances, lol. Pick your battle folks! There are plenty more important things we can all do with our time.

As of 9.2, i completed the quest in m+ (11 to be specific), so no more trouble finding a non m+ group atleast.

I have become extremely frustrated by this. Why did Blizzard do this? I do not like dungeons and do my best to avoid them.
Like a lot of other players I just like to roll along questing. This is because I'm an older player and I don't like to go too fast through things.
Way back in the vanilla days we used to take our time doing dungeons and everyone enjoyed the things that went on. Then it changed. Newer players came along who just wanted to race through them as fast as they could so they could carry on to the next one. I found no fun in that so I just stopped doing them.
Now I find myself in a position of having to do a dungeon, and listening to the whining of how I can't keep up, so I can progress toward flying.
This is nonsense and Blizzard should drop it.
I have come a long way with this character and hope to go a lot further. I play this game for enjoyment and will not allow myself to play parts I don't want to do.
I have many other characters upcoming and I will be playing them more while I put this one to bed until I gain flying. Then I will decide what I am going to do with him.
One thing I can say for sure is that because of Blizzard's huge error not one of my other characters will ever join the Kyrian covenant. I would change this one too but I have made it a long way into this and I don't want to have to start all over again.

If you are playing an alt and you used the skip the intro to this covenant option then you will not have to do "The Spires of Ascension" quest/dungeon to get this quest. Instead you will have to do "The Spires of Ascention" quest at the end of Chapter 3.

Polemarch Adrestes will offer the "Trial of Ascension" quest, however, since he also normally offers a blue daily quest you will not be able to see the yellow quest marker. If you click on him he will still have the quest available.

Solo'd today (July 7, 2022) on normal mode with a prot pally ilvl 226. No enchants, gems, food buffs. Relatively simple.

Changed my Covenant bc of this stupid crap. Cant LFG for this instance. Not in a guild. Just came back after not playing since Legion and an am xpac behind. Stupid decision by Blizz to make this one Cov req an instance.

Don't let the fact that you can't queue up for this specific dungeon if you're like me capped at lvl 60 (no expansion)
Even though this is probably one of the biggest and more annoying blunders Blizz has done.

This task was very deterring to where I actually almost switched covenants too like some others.

Class: Priest (disc)
ilvl: 242
Dungeon Difficulty: Normal
Run time: About 2-3 hours. I really had to take my time, one mob at a time.

The bosses ARE doable. (i did die at least twice on each boss)

Watching each boss fight/mob fight there seemed to be at least ONE spell/attack that keeps them fixated to cast in a certain direction. The biggest help for surviving was recognizing when that attack would come and run through them while using Penance, repetitive Power Word: Shield enough to where it would just keep me protected.

Edit to clarify that I went back in my talents and redid them so it was more Passive/Increased Damage spec'd.

I could finally get my revenge on this dungeon block and solo easily on an alt with ilvl 390, having most gear upgraded with the Dreambound gear tokens (402 ilvl). While a class with stealth definitely shortens time wasted on this, you have to kill the last pack to enable the transfers between platforms in any case. Not even Devos can make the health bar go below 90%.

Your final Kyrian soulbind and mission follower, Mikanikos, is no longer gated by this quest. He appeared this week (2024-01-02) at the Conduit machine and offered his services with the quest No Ordinary Steward.

Description

Our task is not complete yet. We may have pushed back the Forsworn here in Elysian Hold, but it was only a distraction to split our forces. The Archon and the Paragons fight to retake the Spires themselves. We cannot hesitate to aid them in this time of need!
