Fun fact - if you don't do this quest and (like me) find your way to Boralus through the portal in the Mage Quarter, you do not get the Boralus portal back to Stormwind, or the introductory quests in Boralus. If you want to get back to SW, better find a friendly mage or hope you haven't bound your hearth somewhere else already.

In case anyone else gets stuck in launch day spam, there is an NPC you need to click, he will probably be covered in people's toons, mouse over the mass of people standing opposite Anduin!

So, do we ever find out what happened to the King's son? It seems the quest drops off at Drustvar and you never get further instructions. What am I missing? I ended up sent on a goose chase looking for a family & saving a girl from being hanged in a witch trial.

If you abandon this quest for any reason (no judgement), leave the area (new zone at least) and come back. It reset for me, which saved me having to wait for a GM to respond to my ticket!

If you faction changed while on this quest and can't speak to Anduin:

Open up your quest log > Click on the quest "Tides of War" up top > Abandon > Log out > Log in > Auto-accept the new quest.

You can now continue the storyline as normal.

I faction changed to Alliance during Visions of N'zoth with my lvl 120 character and couldn't complete the quest at first. Here is how i solved the problem:

1. Do the Furorion introduction quest. Get Magni's hammer etc. You will then get a quest that sends to to the Heart Chamber in Silithus.
2. Set hearthstone in Stormwind
3. Go through the Uldum portal in SW. Fly to the Heart chamber and hand in the quest.
4. Abandon the Tides of War quest. Use hearthstone back to SW
5. After the loading screen, Tides of War should plop up in your Questlog again, accept.
6. Fly to the castle. You should now see Anduin surrounded by Jaina and Genn, ready to complete the quest.

I just started a new character, a Kul Tiran monk (Alliance) and selected Cataclysm from Chromie. She sent me to the hero's call board, where there is an NPC offering this quest. This leads to BFA, which I don't want now, do I? Why if I'm in cataclysm chromie time (i.e. in the past) does anyone know anything about BFA anyway? I can select a starting zone from the board and go on my way and ignore this, but why am I seeing it?

The quest is not appearing for my old 110 alters after skipping the Lordaeron scenario.

I leveled to 50 on Draenor with one of them and I could use the portal to Boralus but the war campaign or the quests cannot be started.

At least, after doing the neck quest at level 50 you can unlock the World quests, but not the Nazjatar questline.

As of Shadowlands pre-patch, this quest is (supposed to be) offered up by the NPC Hero's Herald, and serves as the BFA breadcrumb for Alliance previously existing chars, and chars that were created in old racial starter zones. Exile's Reach chars will be offered up this version at the end of their noob questline in Stormwind.

Horde version is working perfectly, ~~while this quest for Alliance is currently is bugged, and not working lol~~

I was able to fix this for my couple of friends VIA the party-sync option.

I made a new priest and went through the Exile's Reach questline. Got to Stormwind and upon making it to town I was able to pickup the "Tides Of War" quest, but invited my friends and didn't pick the quest up myself from the Hero's Herald.

Then I party-sync'd with them and they were then able to pick up the quest from the Hero's Herald themselves.

Today I could start this quest in a toon lv 48 after finish The Battle for Lordaeron since A Dying World is not available until lv 50. I did this:

I went to Draenor, I think you can go to a different zone
Disconnect there and try the next day
When I go back to Stormwind, this quest pop up automatically

After the level squishing, this quest was not available until about half way through 47. Not sure if it was the level or some other requirement I happened to clear along the way.

This quest is now available for low level chars. Not sure what level the cut off is to get the quest is but my level 14 char can take the quest

but not my level 11 char. Very strange getting this quest since now the Heart of Azeroth is only obtainable on Level 40 chars !

9 Toons all lvl 50 and I've been playing for 10 + years. I upgraded a toon to lvl 48 and Tides of War quest will not work no matter what I do. Web Ticket Oh it's been fixed. I had previously responded in web ticket that for me it was not. (He obviously did not read entire ticket) No war council no way to proceed to BFA. Log out, drop quest, pick it up again, change zones nothing works and GM says "submit bug notice" Good Grief WOW.

Quest has moved to a different room. Go to 80.3, 33.7 (still in the Keep) and you'll find them standing there.

I have a friend that just hit lvl 50 but has not gotten The Tides of War Quest? Is there something she is missing? Does she have to have Shadowlands purchased? I read that since the October 13 pre-patch, that BFA content is available as long as you have game time or a subscription. Any help would be appreciated!

I just picked it up at the herald next to the Hero's Call Board in Stormwind. Be warned, as of early today, all of my alliance toons have been placed in auto pvp mode upon portaling in to SW from anywhere in WoW. M husband was killed by a SW guard when trying to accept the quest! (We weren't in War Mode or in any Horde areas previous to entering Stormwind. We don't do PVP.)

If you go into the Council room and don't get credit, then you probably flew in. Run back out of the castle and return on foot. Worked for me.

Bugged the heck out of me. and accidentally found a (posible) solution the next day.
I'd sent from one character to another some benthemic armour. hit level 50 and It's openable.
Once I'd opened the shoulders and got some azerite armour it pops up with the 'Dying World' quest, and portals are now available in Boralus.

Very handy, if just like me you were 49 and starting at the Maw quests... ;)

Tried grabbing this today because I need to level up just a few more levels before starting shadowlands questline on my alt and every other zone is showing too low. The quest is currently pinned on the map as being in the keep but if you go there you can't pick it up because nobody is there. You have to go to the hero's call board next to the auction house and talk to the guard with the " ! " above his head, that's where I got it.

Unable to get this quest in Shadowlands? Talk to Hero's Herald near the Hero's Call Board at the Trade District in Stormwind to pick-up this quest.

I was able to start all my quests in BFA by flying from Uldum to Silithus and picking up The Heart of Azeroth quest, from there, you have the portal to Boralus and the quests waiting for you.

Quest is fully bugged as of patch 10.1 - there are no NPCs present in the room, they disappear as soon as you enter the keep. New character, no prior quests done.

I was experiencing the same issue of no npcs being in the room. What fixed it for me was accepting and completed the quest from Magni Return of the Warrior King. After finishing the step that takes place in the heart chamber I hearthed back and the npcs were there in the Petitioner's Chamber.

I recently tried to do this quest on a level 50s character and couldn't get the war council to spawn (the room was just empty), BUT I fixed it by dropping another quest I had in my quest log that involved talking to Anduin Wrynn. Once I did that, the war council spawned in immediately!

Tried to complete this today for like 30 Minutes, here is the Solution that worked for me.

There seems to be actually two different NPC's that can give you this quest. Initially, i picked this quest up from the Heroe's Herald, next to the Heroe's Call Board in Stormwind. This didn't work at all, like mentioned in previous comments. There are no NPC's whatsoever showing up in the marked location. Anduin can still be found in the main throne room in stormwind keep, but the RP wont start if you approach him.

However, standing infront of Anduin in the throne room, there is the NPC called "Captain Garrick". She offered me the exact same quest, even though i already had the one i accepted earlier form the Heroe's Herald NPC in my quest log. Exact same name and everything. Note that for me it was somehow marked as a low level quest. Upon accepting this quest from her, the RP immediately started and i was able to complete the quest. The one i accepted earlier remained incomplete, but it doesnt matter at this point, you can just abandon it and turn in the one that completed successfully at Anduin.

Maybe this can save somebodys time in the future.
