In case anybody else was questioning, yes you have to do the dungeon for this quest, and it can be done on normal

It should be noted that the version of Navarrogg you need to talk to for this quest is standing outside the entrance to the dungeon, not in the instance itself.

Since the turn-in for this quest is inside the instance, failing to talk to him before queuing for the dungeon could prevent you from picking up the next quest.

Can it be done in LFD after talking to the guy outside? Custom group finder has nothing, (I really hate quest lines that dead-end at dungeons and raids. I rarely get them done because can't find a group that also needs to do the same quest mode version.

Just in case anyone was not able to locate her, she is just south of where the exclamation point is on the wowhead map, in a large cave with golden spikes at the entrance.

This is one of the 3 dungeon quests which you'll have to do to get a Pillar. The other 2 are Stormheim (Halls of Valor) and Azsuna (Eye of Azshara).

Did Mythic Neltharion's lair earlier this week. Got the quest later, and joined a mythic group again when lootlocked. I was not able to loot the hammer from Khaz'goroth. You need to do it normal or heroic to get it.

I accidently abandoned this quest after finishing it (trying to get rid of a different one) and I can't seem to speak to Mayla to get pick it up again. Anyone know what I would have to do to get Mayla to have the quest available again?

WHERE DO I TURN THIS IN? - The NPC that you'll need to turn it into is Alonsus Faol, who is a champion. If he's currently set to be on a mission, then he will not be there and you won't be able to turn it in.

Looks like it couldn't be completed on Mythic+ difficult. You should loot last boss, but his corpse just despawn with no loot on M+.

For those who have abdandoned or performed a faction change, the quest giver Mayla Highmountian is not in Thunder Totem. She is in fact in a cave located at 53.23, 69.66. If you can't turn this quest in try disabling all your addons and/or reloading your user interface.

After weeks of frustration I did these things and they worked.

This quest bugged out on me because I did not talk to the version of Navarrogg OUTSIDE the dungeon entrance FIRST. I got the hammer, it had a yellow question mark above it, but the quest would not complete. So I went and talked to him and tried the dungeon again, even though this time all objectives were complete, it still would not complete and let me loot the hammer. I had to abandon the quest and retake it. Also for those who have to do so, the quest giver, Mayla, is in the cave, Understone Breach.

Disable Wowhead Looter.

I did not talk to Navarrogg outside of the entrance instead I just queued through group finder for the instance. Upon killing the final boss and interacting with the hammer I was unable to complete the quest and had an error with wowhead looter. Disabling this allowed me to complete the quest and pick up the next.

Disabling all addons might help as well but ymmv.

Don't be confused if you can't turn it in at the entrance of the dungeon. To turn it in your must complete the dungeon and interact with the Hammer of Khaz'goroth itself and turn the quest in there.

If you are unable to complete the quest because you've completed both sections and that floating hammer just laughs at you while you're clicking on quest complete and nothing happens.

Here's the solution

Disable ALL your addons!

One of them is in conflict, (I don't know which one) but logout, disable all, log back in (you should still be in the instance) and complete the quest. Log back out and re-apply addons.

I beat my skull into oblivion on this one, and once Blizz after numberous tickets just gave me the 'delete your wtf directory' song and dance. I tried this.
Works with all my characters!

do you have to the dungeon to receive "More powder"? if this question has been asked and answered, I apologize. I'm being lazy. I've losing more health than mana, would someone point me to correct forum/thread? Thanks!

Update as of 10-3-2017

I did not talk to quest mob OUTSIDE of dungeon before using group tool for dungeon.

I completed the dungeon and the big floaty hammer was there, but I could NOT complete it, as others have said.

I did NOT disable add ons, I simply moved over a little, Looted the BODY no the ground, not the hammer, and this completed the quest for me and I was then able to click the hammer and complete it.

Be careful about jumping down the hole. Make sure you as centered as you can die by hitting a ledge. It just happened to me and its long ass journey to the entrance from the GY.

So to save some of you some trouble, I am going to help you learn from my own stupidity. I had previously cleared this dungeon on Mythic for the xmog and a WQ that was up a day prior. I then received this quest and and ran all the way back through the dungeon on mythic again. This made it so the bosses were still spawned, but I could not loot them and therefore could not get the Hammer from the final boss. To fix this I just left the dungeon, changed it to Heroic and ran through it again. This allowed the hammer to drop for me and complete the quest.

Recover the Hammer of Khaz'goroth.

Description

I will direct my people to clear a path through this rubble and assault Dargrul's forces directly.

It will be a ruse.

Navarrogg proposed a plan that I believe has merit. He knows of a side entrance that might lead directly to Dargrul.

Muster what allies of yours you can and strike at them through this side passage. Recover the Hammer of Khaz'goroth before that villain brings the mountain down on top of us.

We will provide the distraction you need to get a shot.
