Does someone happen to know the prerequisites for this quest?

I'm asking as I'm interested in if we can collect the tomes in the first lockout, or if we need to do a few days of naval missions first.

A non-100% drop from HFC bosses. I killed 6 bosses on normal tonight, got 2 tomes.

The drop rate on these are apparently much lower than before, only a few in the raid will get one per boss. Which makes sense, since if each boss dropped 1, you would almost be done after two clears.

Also, this just makes it seem even more as if Khadgar is going to go dark side.

You can get 0 or 1 per tome per boss at approximately 60-65% drop rate.

A bug existed on first week where on Hellfire Assault you had the chance for 2 tomes, this has been corrected/hotfixed.

Archimonde does not guarantee a drop - it was expected that players complete this step if HFC is cleared each time in 4 weeks on average

33 tomes / 4 weeks = 8.25 tomes~ per week
62%~ drop rate.

Based on my previous endeavors with such matters, I cracked open my spreadsheet again to bring you a handy prediction table of how long it will take you to finish this collection phase.

Notice: It would seem that Blizzard has increased the drop chance of Tomes of Chaos in recent months without notice. Since it would be difficult to determine the changed drop chance with only few people doing the quest now, I resort to leaving this comment unchanged as a memorial of how things were.

Kills: number of boss kills
Chance: probability that you gather 33 Tome of Chaos with exactly <Kills> number of kills.
Sum: probability that you gather 33 Tome of Chaos with <Kills> or less number of kills. This is the sum of all <Chance>-values up to the respective line

Some quick observations:

Getting all 33 Tome of Chaos in 3 fully cleared IDs (39 kills) is virtually impossible (7e-6 = 0.0007 %).
With 4 fully cleared IDs (52 kills) the chance improves dramatically to 3.52 % - still quite rare.
You will most likely need less than 87 kills (99 %) to get your Tome of Chaos (didn't fit into this comment).
More realistically, you will probably be done in 77 or less kills (90 %).
You have a 50 % chance to get your tomes within 65 kills.

In the name of tradition, I once again present the table of the dreaded ID of Fail where not a single Tome of Chaos drops. The less bosses you kill, the more likely it will be, of course:

A neat consequence of a 50 % drop chance is that the above table also shows the chance of you getting a tome from every boss you kill.

PSA: Something I've just found out, legendary quests like this are removed from your quest log when you faction transfer. In this instance the Tome of Chaos which you collect will remain with you, but you'll need to pick up the quest again from Archmage Khadgar before you can continue it.

If you have ran HFC on LFR, can you still get more tomes drops from Normal or no? It seems like it might be op, but I was curious

HFC LFR =done on tuesday ---------Got the quest on friday..

Result: no tomes dropped from LFR boss ( even tought I forgot 2 boss on Hellbreach: tried to loot them but no tomes)

I also did some normal and hero on thursday that covered all boss loot :s .

Conclusion: if you did loot prior to the quest you won't get tomes in the same week.

Horrible quest! Awful and boring! But I did it in 30 seconds! You can go flying very low! Really near of the ground! If you touch the ground the orcs will start the alarm, but it's ok! Go straight to the point and take the item, the quest will buggy ( the orcs will stop the alarm)! Do the same for the second item! The cinematic will start and you will finish the quest!

So I got the quest yesterday and started doing the LFR to see if I can get some tomes.. I was amazed a bit that after doing all LFRs I got 9 tomes total (I hope I'm not jinxing it). So dunno about the droprates but I am pleased for now, maybe in another 3 weeks I'll get my ring upgraded :D

Is anyone able to confirm whether or not each boss drops more depending on difficulty? For example, a boss might drop 1 in LFR, 2 in Normal, 3 in Heroic, and 4 in Mythic or something like that.

Ok so what if I clear HFC on heroic difficulty with my guild on Wednesday and then pick up the quest on Thursday. Am I going to get any tomes by doing LFR? I mean the loot is separate so theoretically it should work right?

Warning:

As of the current plans, the legendary ring questline will be unavailable to start and if you aren't on the Highmaul quest or later, it will be removed from your quest log on the Legion pre-patch on July 19th, so make sure you have begun the questline from chapter II (Legacy of the Sorcerer Kings) if you want to finish it.

Then, the whole questline will be removed on the launch of Legion on August 31st, with any rewards you have not already earned becoming unobtainable.

Since I started this quest line last night 8/8 bosses have dropped the Tome so far, feel like they may have fixed it for speed before it disappears.

Maybe I'm just very very unlucky, but after clearing all HFC LFR's and I got 0 Tomes of Chaos.

Gonna try Normal, Heroc and Mythic now.

They said, it can be completed if in progress....

I had the quest and was at 21 Tomes of Chaos. I faction changed and still have the books, but no longer have the quest. I've read through the comments here and looked for Khadgar at my garrison shipyard and he's there but not offering me the quest. I only have a level 2 shipyard, is that what the issue is?

I appreciate any response or comment/help.

Description

If history is any indication, Gul'dan is training a whole generation of warlocks to marshal against us. If we act fast, we can stem the tide and make things easier on ourselves.

As you and your fellow heroes venture into the depths of the Hellfire Citadel, seek out Tomes of Chaos from Gul'dan's lieutenants.
