Murlocs at 36,44. As the quest says you have to weaken it first, use the leash and bring it back to the quest giver.

As a level 80 trying to do this quest, I had no way to simply weaken them without killing them in the process. I ended up paying a low level some gold to help me, but you if you have access to some Ez-Thro Dynamite that could also do the trick.

Difficult to do as a lv 5 hunter, as you can't tell your pet to back off before killing the murloc. I finally had to pull a couple of local duskbats and let them kill my pet. Then I just melee'd the murloc down and used the leash when it ran.

Tip for high level hunters (or anyone with a weapon damage ability I guess).

Go pick up a very, very low level bow over at the Bulwark.

Get completely naked. (except for new low level bow)

Use Scattershot and hope it doesn't crit.

It took a few tries but I was able to complete the quest without help.

Be careful when returning the murloc as you enter the building. On my first attempt the murloc became stuck underneath the stairway and I was unable to get him out. On my second attempt, I slowly went up the stairs, making sure the murloc stayed on the staircase with me, and was successful.

It would seem the murloc you choose is then turned into a staying pet. I took an Oracle, and it became Sparky

I intend to find out if the Puddle Jumpers provide a differently colored pet for Sedrick

The captured murloc DOES have a time limit even though theres no buff / debuff. I decided to do a quest before returning him and the murloc died just before i could hand in.

Edit: I tested this after my Original post, the murloc lasted exactly 10 mins from time captured.

Higher level players: don't mount once you have your murloc. I had to go capture a new one--probably outran the bugger.

Tire damage murloc until he gets 25% health, then use the Murloc Leash.

With a 78 DK, I simply got naked, and as soon as I threw the first punch, I activated the leash. Ran to town with it still in my undies.

As a level 85 priest, everything I tried would kill the murloc.

Finally, I MC'ed a murloc, hit another murloc until 25 percent, and threw the leash on the injured murloc :O

Dying while having a leashed Murloc will screw up the quest. You'll have to abandon the quest and start over.

As a level 85 trying to grind UC rep, several things that may help.. One, strip completely naked (except for your shirt and tabard of course) and remove any buffs that can cause damage to your target. Two, punch the murloc in the face, then quickly jump off the target before you bust him in the jaw again and kill him. Three, reacquire the target and leash him. Also (and it took me forever to figure this out) DISMISS any pet you have with you or else the murlock will not follow you back to the quest giver. Hope this helps.

Level 85 Paladins and Death Knights, which can't use ranged weapons and have a high base amount of strength, can do this quest using an Argent Tournament lance, as they have a base damage of 1-3. Completely naked, it still hits for 124-126 damage, so you'll have to find one with high health. I found a murloc with 131 health and it worked perfectly.

Punches hit for less, but the fact that they hit for 82 damage means that you can't get the murloc below 25% hp without killing him, since you would have to hit him twice.

Alternatively, you could always kill yourself and try do do this quest with resurrection sickness.

I lost my murloc way before turning him in but I was able to get turn in credit by jumping on the bed and walking through the quest-giver. Even though I didn't have the murloc physically with me it still gave me credit.

For large level's: Is not it better to be killed and reborn at the angel of the resurrection? Then for 10 minutes you have weakness of everything! Is it not easier to solve the problem? :)

DKs can use control undead to get this done. I don't recommend the deathknell mobs, they're too low level and die before causing enough damage. The mobs from the Agamand Mills work fine, just be sure to switch them to passive before they kill the poor murloc!

if you're doing this quest at a very high lvl that even removing all your gear doesnt work, die and resurrect from the spirit healer. that should cut back enough of your dmg and you'll be able to do this quest.

So, let me get this strait. You feel lonely, in your immortal semi-life and lavish riches by the standards of the Warcraft universe. The best solution? Capture a sentient being capable of sadness and misery because you took it from its home and environment, turn it into a pet-slave, and then slowly watch it die of old age as you continue your existence.

Joy. Undead, go figure, am I right?

Also, Quest Tracker is slightly bugged, and will imply that you want to go to the lake to the east instead of going to the shore to the north west. When sorting by proximity, it claims the shore is closer, but it is much easier to hit it after doing the "Kill the Farmer" quest from the same building.

Ok... I had a problem with an appropriate level hunter where the pet kept killing the murloc before I could capture it. I could not turn off the attack because I didn't have a pet bar, nor could I dismiss the pet because that spell had not become available yet. Here is a work around: Attack a murloc, let your pet attack that one, quickly attack another murloc and you should be able to capture the second murloc before your pet realizes what's going on. If you are still having trouble, add a third murloc to the mix.

Nearly impossible to complete as a (current) Hunter, as even your pet's auto attack will kill it.

Workaround: Duel someone and have them kill your pet, then you. You can't Revive your pet, and you can walk up and auto-attack+esc or however you choose. Good luck.

Chauffeured Chopper users: be advised that the murloc's tiny legs just can't keep up with your Heirloom Mount (or other mounts..). Stop, kill some random mobs, and give the lil guy some time to catch up on your way to turn-in!

thank goodness i checked this page as i kept killing the murlocs at level 7 (monk), no looms either. So finally unequipped the staff and just used auto hit. Success!

For low level hunters (mine was level 6 and already too OP for this quest): Go to Brill and stable your pet. Return and undress. Make sure to unequip your weapon. The oracles have slightly more hp (90-100) than the puddle jumpers (75-90). Punch a murloc in the face, use leash, win.

A little advice to people who are absolutely packed with heirlooms and have weapon enchants like Dancing Steel and Mongoose. Put your weapons in your bag. For they do some heavy damage (even Auto Attacks).

I did this quest as a Level 7 warlock with heirloom gear... What I ended up doing was removing every piece of armour (including staff) and dismissing my imp, as using Shadow Bolt or Corruption would 1-shot the murloc... After the gear was removed, I used 2 Shadow Bolts to get the murloc down to a low enough level to use the leash on him.. Once captured, I put all my gear back on and went on my merry way.. Hope this helps :-)

For all high levels. This is doable. What you have to do? Aggro one of them with an ability that does no damage and ask low level player to help you. You will be able to tame him after the low level character beats him under 25% of it's health. :)

For those Loremasters out there who want to complete every single quest, the best solution I came up with is to:

Use a 2nd Starter WoW Account (free)
Create a level 1 Undead Rogue
Use my 2-person mount to fly him over to the murlocs.

I kept taunting him back to me and the level 1 wore him down and I could leash him easily. Good luck!

Remember don't mount up or you lose the murloc, just run back.

You will be level 7 if you are fully equipped with heirlooms, which means you will one-shot every murloc in the area. The only way to get it done is to remove all your heirlooms except for maybe your weapon and beat him down with it.

If you're trying to do this as a rogue in looms.. Umm Yeah.. You'll need to completely strip down, take off your weapons and drag the auto attack out from your general spell tab.

Only way I could do it without one shotting the mob. Took about 2 hits before I could use the device and walk them back to the quest giver.

Hit escape or the auto attack button to cancel attacking the mob.

If attempting this at higher levels, you'll most likely kill the Murlocs with one hit.

One solution is to un-equip all items and then kill myself so you'll get Resurrection Sickness.
Another solution is to be in a party with a low-level person, and let them attack and damage the Murloc, so you can use the Murloc Leash on it.

As a lvl 7 warlock with heirlooms I had to dismiss my imp and gently melee the murlocs. You cant complete the quest with the imp out... they will die too quick.

To finish this quest with a higher char, you can hit the murloc with Soft Foam Sword.
Finally use Murloc Leash and take the murloc to Sedrick Calston.

For Engineers at 110, you can strip down, res sickness yourself and then chuck 2 Rough Dynamite at the Murloc. Worked for me.

As a low level hunter I found this quest extremely annoying. I can't control or dismiss my pet yet, and even after taking off gear my pet would the mob before I could capture it. I ended up dueling someone and asking them to kill my pet.

Don't put too much distance between you and the murloc npc. Go back to the quest giver like in the old fashion way...run on feet.

This quest appears to be more bugged than usual since Shadowlands, because I didn't have this problem completing it in late BFA. I followed all of the precautions discussed in the comments here (made it back within a couple of minutes, traveled on foot, never let the murloc get too far away, etc) and still the murloc continuously disappeared the second I hit the top of the stairs. The solution seems to be moving at an absolutely glacial pace up the stairs. Shuffling as slowly as possible and keeping the murloc literally on top of you until you're fully on the bed with Sedrick. Only then will the question mark turn yellow and you'll know you've completed it. That's the only way I got it to work.

End of July 29 2023. Im a level 10 with tons of fun loom gear. pick up the quest up the stairs. He's on his bed indian style.
Mount up with the new patch automatic learning now. Ride over. Attack the little murloc close by, just once.
Use the quest item to rope him up. THEN RUN BACK ON FOOT.
DO NOT Mount up.
Turn in and quest is complete.

This quest is absolutely bugged as of The War Within. I just created an Undead Mage and have tried everything that I can think of to get this to work, but every single time that I leash up the Murloc, he just fades out and disappears. I tried relogging too. Nothing works as of the writing of this post. I would say don't even bother accepting the quest because all it will do is frustrate you to no end.
