It's pretty tough to solo this at level 10ish. I recommend finding at least one more, AND clearing the roaming gnolls. Also, avoid the camps, they have a rather large radius of aggro :)

This is the first "elite" quest in the human storyline. This is best in a group or you will most likely die from adds, extra monsters attacking you.

Once Hogger is dead have everyone in your party loot his body and pick up his claw, it will be available to everyone that has the quest in your party.

As a warlock or a hunter (Night elf or Dwarf), it should be solo-able, if you play your class right. I soloed him on my human warlock easily.

But ya, having a group is the best choice, since there are other Gnolls around the area, it should be easy with a full party or just one or two extra people in the party.

I solo'd it pretty soundly with my 12 human mage. I didnt even have Arcane Intellect or Frost Armor on.

Just find where he is and try to wipe the surrounding mobs without aggroing to much.

If you're a druid, go for the staff reward and carry it with you at all times.

With some 2.1 speed rares being the fastest available, this 2.2 speed is the easiest way of keeping your skill up. By keeping your staff skill at 3 below maximum you will only need to whack with it for a few minutes every new level in order to raise your skill by 5 points, and keeping your damage up.

I had no problems with this one. Had a good group and we took care of him easily, just get a two-three people group and take him down really.

Solo'd with my level 12 warlock, tanking with my voidwalker and throwing every damage spell I could at him. Healed my VW with health funnel when all my DoT were on him.

In retrospect it might've been easier using rank 2 Curse of Weakness than rank 1 Curse of Agony.
Plus dynamites and copper bombs were a help.

After I left, a mage+warrior party were less than thrilled that they now had to wait for him to respawn.

Soloed as L10 human warlock. Fear over and over reapply dots and Sbolt when you can. Very easy!

I got one add spawn and just threw the voidwalker at him and that took care of it while i focused on Hogger.

Marshal Dughan wants you, and not him to kill Hogger for a reason.
He wouldn't last 10 seconds against Hogger, and you should not attempt this without a 40 man raid.

this was very odd to me-- Ive done hogger twice as different alts, and
the third time that i did the quest, my toon was an herbalist. There
is silverleaf near hogger the left of a large tree; I went to gather it
and he charged me, he was RIGHT there. I ran. I waited a second and
then tried again. I stood there for a minute, nothing. I touched the sil-
verleaf. he was RIGHT there again, with a wooshing sound.
Note; i got him, finally. But that silverleaf angle was Odd.

Don't let his small size deceive you - he's actually extremely hard to kill. Nihilium tried with a 40 man raid and only barely accomplished this feat. They are currently the only guild able to proudly state they have Hogger on farm status. Most other guilds haven't even attempted this awesome feat.

Hogger has three different spawn locations, one is near the stream seperating Elwynn Forest from Westfall sorta patrolining. Another place is by a big tree sorta in the middle of the gnolls. The last place is by another tree but more near the stream than the middle. Hogger is an lvl 11 elite Gnoll. Of the area that he's in, go north (but not into Westfall) and I'm sure you'll find him. It should be easier with a buddy unless can stun him and run if you have to.. I've done this quest with my Human, Blossem. I hope you find him. Happy Hunting!

Solo'd this as a level 9 mage by kiting him along the river back to the guards at 23,80 with frostbolt. Never took a point of damage.

easy solo'd as a 13 lock, just cleared the area and sent my voidwalker inmediatly doted him with everything i had (corruption agony and imolate) and then spammed with shadowbolt then renew dots and he dead voidwalker bout 150 hp left no need to healthfunnel for me

Soloed Him As A 10 Night Elf Hunter Just Make Sure You Have Food and drinks for u and ur pet and when hogger seems to run after u i just use Consuccive shot and i killed him and you can also do a quest Riverpaw Gnoll Bounty So It Can Be Easier but the Riverpaw Gnoll Bounty quest didnt have a good drop rate i had to kill like 28 - 30 Gnolls just to complete the quest.

if ur gonna do it w/ ppl that are lvl 10-12 then get 2-4 ppl it will be much easier and he most likely will apear to the south west tree by the camp good luck!

Very easy to solo for a lvl 10-11 pally, if you know what you're doing.

Clear nearby mobs out of the way and enter with a HoJ, lay into him a little until you've lost a chunk of health then heal, and keep your health up (judiciously, of course. Don't waste all your mana too quickly) until your HoJ is ready again, bash him again, repeat process.

You get to finish the quest without spending your time calling out for a group, and anyone in the immediate area will likely pst you with "You just solo Hogger!"

Early-on way to feel like a pro lol.

This is not the real Hogger.

The real one is a lvl ? elite boss.
To summon him, you must first kill High Overlord Saurfang to become attuned!
Once attuned, you can summon him by killing that Hogger and use an item that Saurfang will drop on his corpse.

Freaking tough boss fight. It was easy until 75% where he summons two adds, CHUCK NORRIS AND BRUCE LEE! and he is undamage-able until these two are dead!
He will again summon them at 50%, and 25%.
At 1% he cast an AoE that hits for 35 million damage, and the AoE will spread all the way through Azeroth, and Outlands! Paladin bubbles will NOT save you from this.
Once dead.... he will drop Martin Thunder!

Strategy:

Make sure your raid clears the surrounding area before engaging hogger, there is a very fast respawn timer for the adds.

Make sure your raid is fully buffed before even attempting him.

Phase 1:
The fight starts when you engage Hogger, he will use http://www.wowhead.com/?spell=6730 on your MT, then switch to the THIRD highest person on threat. Because of this it is helpful to have 3 tanks, so the top 3 threat characters will be a tank.

He will use http://www.wowhead.com/?spell=6016 on his target, it is important that the off tank taunts Hogger off the MT, or else Hogger will hit for huge, unimaginable amounts.

Make sure the tanks are quick with the taunts, a Pierce Armor on the MT followed by a crit from Hogger can be disastrous.

Phase 2:
Phase 2 starts when the first gnome mage with pink hair dies from an add, this is UNAVOIDABLE, if ANY gnome mage with pink hair dies ANYWHERE on the server, Hogger will enter Phase 2.

(Hogger can not be killed without entering phase 2, if you get him down to 10% while in Phase 1, he will enrage, stunning everyone in melee range, then use Glaive Throw at everyone who is not stunned, this will wipe the raid.)

If Hogger is not entering Phase 2, then a Gnome mage with pink hair MUST be sacrificed to the nearest Murloc, it is the only way.

In Phase 2, hogger starts making fires which the raid must move out of. This is a new idea that Blizzard gave only to Hogger and is completely original in every aspect of the game.

So, this will be new to people, especially if they have raiding experience.

MOVE OUT OF THE FIRES

Once Hogger gets to 10% he enters....

Phase 3

Hogger will start growing, after 1 minute into phase 3, Hogger will be the size of Gruul, and will start hitting your tanks so hard, there is no way they can survive. At this point, you should use all of your cooldowns, and the tanks will start to die, then the melee dps, then the healers, then the ranged dps.

At this point of the fight, http://www.wowhead.com/?npc=7937 will come out to assist your raid, he will be able to taunt Hogger off your raid, and if you have enough dps alive, you will be able to kill him.

The Staff will last you long into WoTLK 25 man content, and depending on luck & dkp a while longer, the legs & tunic will last you until you start running heroics (where you will find slight upgrades)

This is soloable with a rogue at level 11, if you grab a healing potion and use evade.

Probably also soloable with a paladin and a mage, not sure about other classes, although if you have a voidwalker as a Warlock he's also probably quite easy.

Unless he's angry. If he's angry, only Saurfang will be able to stop him.

you need to get a 40 man raid together and they must atleast do 20k dps and the tank has to have 1568743 defense rating. make sure the healers heal for atleast 10,000,000,000. if you dont follow these directions you will die. no one has EVER done this so please, just please dont mess with hogger or you will regret it.

We 3-manned him with an 8, 13, and 10, all pallies.

Easiest fight I've ever done. I healed, 13 tanked.

Make sure you don't grab a thousand enemies when you pull him. If you have a pally, place judgement of light on the hog to give your tank some self heals.

I casted 2 heals the whole time. Simple fight.

Additionally, this is the first quest most humans will do that yields green armor (armor bonuses).

My level 13 rogue finally defeated Hogger after 4 deaths. Buffed with Oil of Olaf and a Scroll of Protection. Had to use one Lessor Healing Potion. Almost dead at end. Another gnoll and a bear got me. Had to resurrect to loot body. (It was weird looting Hogger's body when Hogger had already respawned at the same spot. Had to run quickly to prevent death 5 from Hogger).

Earlier found a level 15 gnoll in area. Much easier than Hogger since he was non-elite, but he had Boarhide Leggings which were my first green item on this rogue.

Make sure to bring at least 2 40 Man Raids to beat this guy.

Nah, Me(10 Prot Warrior) and 11 (Pally) 2-manned him. It was a close fight, the pally died but I managed taking him down.

Basically, I suggest you don't solo him as he is hard for his level. Just get a 2-3 Man group and kill him :).

Soloed as a lvl 10 paladin, with shield and a avarage speed weapon. No green equips.

i've tried 2 times, the first one i did two mistakes, 1st, I Didn't cleaned up the area, while i'm fightin a gnoll come and makes the fight more difficult, the second mistake was use holy light while low on health, hogger interrupted the heal and killed me easy.

in the second fight, everything occours well, used Divine protection and Hammer of justice, REMEMBER, its important to you use hammer before you heal, if not hogger will interrupt your cast and you will probably die.

Begin with Divine protection, using Judgement of the light every time it refreshs, with shield, to take less damage.
At the middle fight, if you have potions, do not be afraid to use it, they helps alot, if you dont have/want, USE your hammer of justice and heals fast, it will prevent issues with interruption, continue the dps, it will probably be enought :P
If you need, use LoH, i didnt need to use it, maybe hogger crits you more or whatever...

Soloable at level 11 by a warlock. I had my voidwalker on growl (or whatever they do) so it would hold the aggro. Then put my DoTs on him and spammed my shadow bolt. Pretty easy, just make sure to kill the adds (or fear them ;D)

Classification: Level 11 "Common" Elite
Location: Forest's Edge, Elwynn Forest
Difficulty: Medium-Hard for levels 10-14
Soloable: Only if you are extremely bored.

Background: Hogger is one of THE most infamous villains ever created in videogames. Being an iconic symbol of pure pownage, this NPC has a reputation of attacking local villages and making little kids cry to their mothers. This has resulted in quite the bounty on his claw, with the quest available to the Alliance.

He is the leader of the Riverpaw Gnolls, and is believed to have a brother not far from his position. Hogger should be approached with extreme caution.

Tips: Hogger does not stay in one place for long. He patrols the entire campgrounds, occasionally with some patrols with him. When engaged with other gnolls, be on the lookout for this elite.

As for fighting him, you should be fine if you bring along a consious healer, strong tank, and a DPS or two. The tank will get hit hard, but do not falter whatever happens. Again, watch out for patrols!

Hogger doesn't drop anything special, unless you are very lucky. He may drop Tigerseye or Gold Pickup Schedule for your time, however. Turning in the quest will give you choices of very nice gear for future adventures.

Hogger can be killed as a couple if you clear the surrounding area. I tried this with my lvl 10 pally, and my warlock friend.

In the Cataclysm version of this quest, you don't kill Hogger, you just bring him down to 1 hp. After that General Marcus Jonathan appears with some backup and arrests Hogger, which is the explanation as to why he also can be found in the Stockade.

I went completely solo on this one as a lvl 9 dark elf feral combat. I attacked him, but had to change back into human form just to heal. Then finished him quickly :) alot easier than I thought it would be. I actually completed 2 quests in 1 run (the Riverpaw Gnoll bounty quest and this).

Hogger was easy with solo Level 11 Rogue. He now stops fighting and is arrested, so you don't even have to kill him. I even blew my ambush attempt when I attacked him, and still no prob.

this must have been really nerfed. I just whipped him as a L9 Rogue, pretty crappy equip, and I blew my stealth cover and he attacked first! Used a couple bandages in the fight, you prob want a potion or two to help along with a heal or 2. Take him all the way down, then complete the quest quickly on the corpse next to him and get out. Couple knolls will show up.

I think this is a bug, but in Patch 8.0, the yellow exclamation point for WANTED: "Hogger" appears on the big map, but on the mini map it doesn't appear, not even the wanted poster appears.
