The teleportation orb can be found on the right side after you enter En'kilah.

Should you die fighting Valanar, it's possible for Thassarian to finish him off if he's sufficiently low, so don't release immediately. After Valanar dies, you'll see a short scene with Leryssa, and the yellow ? will appear above Thassarian's head. If you're alive, you can turn the quest in now. If not, wait for Thassarian to despawn; you can then release and turn the quest in back at the Wailing Ziggurat.

Thassarian will tank Prince Valanar for you, but watch out Valanar does some kind of AOE damage when you are close to him.

Me being a fury warrior and another fury warrior barely beat him, we had to back out and bandage a few times.

Despite the actual quest being very hard technically, it can be soloed by a somewhat experienced frost mage. I just completed it by myself, here's how I managed:

Stand at the ramp next to Thassarian, as soon as you notice the Prince being hostile send your water elemental at him. The elementals' DPS is NOT going to be enough to pull agro from Thassarian. When you think you're good to go, pop everything you got. Icy veins combined with the skull of gul'dan is a huge perq here.

The second you pull agro, hit ice block instantly only to cancel it right after, this time you pop invisibility. Cold snap and pop out another water elemental. Also worth mentioning is Prince Valanar follows regular casting rules, meaning he does target the one highest on threat and his spells DO have a max range. To take full benefit of this i ran half a lap around the other circle meanwhile my elemental laid the smackdown onto Valanar, who at this time was beating on a low-health Thassarian.

Ultimately I stepped back ontop of the platform and popped my second Icy Veins and trinket number 2. If you got good enough DPS here, you'll just about manage to kill Valanar before he finishes off Thassarian. It doesn't matter at all if Thassarian dies however, but you will not last long one-on-one against Valanar.
Use pots/bandage when needed and you will win, with very tight play however. Redundant or not, hope it helps anyone.

Just two manned with an Unholy DK, and Ret pally. Pally nuked himself during the first soul deflection, I had to spam death strike, use icebound fortitude and use bone shield to keep myself up. I died at around 20% left and finished him off during shadow of death. Pally got credit, so staying alive is not necessary but really helpful =P

Soloed as 72 holy paladin in T5 gear. Didn't try but probably could have soloed at 71. Just keep Thassarian alive and DPS when you can while practicing mana management. You don't have to kill him, you just have to outlive him. :)

For people with only quest greens, you should definitely not try to solo it. Even duo'ing it won't be easy, depending on your class mix. Without a healer, it will be a tough fight for sure.

!Watch out! for this spell: Soul Deflection. Turn auto-attack off / interrupt your spellcasting as soon as he casts this and don't do any damage to him while he channels it. It's easy to spot this spell, he shoots a pink beam at everyone.

It's possible to solo/two-man this quest as an Enhancement Shaman, along with pretty much any other class for company.
Gear should be a non-issue; I was able to tackle it in all greens, save a couple of blues, at level 71.

Get in there and put all of your totems down-- pop your spirit wolves, keep aggro off yourself with Wind Shock while DPSing, so that Thassarian is able to build some threat.
Make sure to stop your wolves from attacking during the "reflection".
As soon as it's over, pop Heroism, Greater Fire Elemental, and trinket(s).
Go all out-- start using Earthshock in place of Wind Shock, and he should be down in no time.
Save your maelstrom stacks for healing wave if you ever get low, but your puppies should keep you topped off for the most part.

This same strategy has also allowed me to solo almost any two/three man group quest I've come across.

If you die why fighting him and you have to run back, don't bother if your group completes the quest. You will get credit and can talk to him for the reward at the Ziggurat. (also if you ponder too long on which reward to take like I did you can do this after he goes back)

If you're having problems finding where to teleport to.

Once you are inside the temple go to your right, there is a table with a white teleport.

Once you're up, go up the ramp to where the 2 mobs are guarding, kill them or not. But don't go higher, turn immediately in either direction and run up the short ramp. You're there.

The 2 portals are stacked on top of each other.

lol , just soloed this as a ret pally with healing gear.
Buffed with wisdom , just use wise judgment and wise on while u spamm all your other attacks.
If you see the Death knight at around 50% health or so , heal him and continue attacking.

Mana wont go down , and u will be able to down him easily and get ur reward :D

Easy to solo as a Retirbution Paladin. Just let the dude who helps you, get the main aggro at first, give him a couple of heals, then just nuke away and heal yourself as the HP drops of this boss. Didn't need a shield or a onehander, just my 2-hander<3

Just want to point out that the quest text is a bit off on this one. You want to enter Naxxanar by using the altar to the right of the entrance. There is no 'orb' as far as I can tell. Just go to the glowy thing.

This is what to do.

If you enter the Temple City of En'kilah (Entrance @ 84.3, 30.9) turn to your right and you'll see a White portal.

Enter it, go to the opposite site of where you're looking at.
Kill the elite then enter the portal in the middle.

Congratulations! you've found Thassarian!

Talk to him and w8 for a long time as they talk.

Then kill the elite.

Quest done! talk to Thassarian again and you completed the quest.

I've done this with a group of 5. because many people needed to do this quest.

With a healer you can do it with 2 man else you simply need 3 or more!

I managed to solo this as a 71 firemage in S4/3 gear, with a pot, 2 bandages and Glyph of Evocation. It is possible if you're careful to line of sight him without losing aggro while you wait for bandage cooldown.
Also, try to only cast things when you're next to some LoS object so you can avoid his casted spell.

Was grouped with a 70 mage and was going to try to 2-man this (my toon was a 72 rogue), but I'm glad we didn't.

Got to the top platform as two others were just completing this. We asked them to stay and group with us, so we did it with 4 but...I was still surprised at how hard Valanar hit...at least against leather! Think it would have been a stretch to do this with the 70 mage/72 rogue and no healer.

This can be soloed by a 71 prot paladin in Kara-esque gear, as long as you're careful and all your cooldowns are available. Use a combo of SoW/SoL and JoW/JoL to keep up your health and mana, burning Divine Plea as it's available. Let yourself drop to about 25% health, bubble, and quickly heal yourself back up. If necessary, repeat and use Lay on Hands at 25% the second time. The main trick is to be ready to cancel your attacks as soon as Soul Drain occurs; otherwise, you wind up beating yourself to death.

I soloed this as a 73 resto shaman. I let Thassarian attack and just healed him and myself. With Mana Spring, Mana Tide and Water Shield, I kept near full mana. At some point I decided I wanted to speed it up so I took one swing at Valanar and immediately got aggro. Wind Shock didn't help, as I kept having to heal myself. I got out of melee range and he pelted me with spells for about a minute until Thassarian got him back. The kill took a long time, probably at least 10 minutes.

Btw, thanks to those who gave directions for this quest. I soloed the other two elites and went back down, I didn't know where to go, lol.

If Thessarian dies, the fight is over. Make sure you keep heals on him periodically. You cannot finish the quest if he dies, but he resets very quickly so you can try again.

Soloed as a lvl70 Unholy ( 11/0/50 ) Death Knight. Used 1 health potion and rune tap once.

I just kept diseases on, and death striked every cooldown. Poped bone armor before the fight and once during the fight.

I didn't find there to be much burst, so it was quite easy, Thassarian tanked for 50% of the fight.

Blood specced DK's should find this really easy with the amount of self healing they get.

Solo'd with a 73 Shadow preist, in mostly blues from 70-73 Northrend instances and epics from kara/ZA.

Just DoT'd him up, then spammed Mind Blast / Mind Flay on him, switching out of Shadowform when I needed a heal. Midfight, sent in Shadowfiend for mana, then when that mana ran out, used Dispersal, and finished him off with ease.

Just soloed this as a lvl 69 blood specced Death Knight.
I got tired of looking for plp to join me and decided to have a go at him.
Used a health pot and was prob lucky to spawn 4 blood maggots, but it only took one shot to get him down.
Don't think I could have soloed it on my warrior or shaman...

He is soloable by a Blood specced DK. Because of thassarian's improved blood aura you have increased healing done to you so your heals from either blood worms or rune tap or death strike heal you for much more. Just wach out for his soul deflection spell and stop dpsing. a health pot is not mandatory but would be good to have one just in case

Duo'd with me 73 holy priest (In full TBC Epics - around 1300 Spell Power) and 72 combat rogue (In full TBC Epics, two merc gladiator swords, the rest PvE and badge gear).

Used one Shadowfiend and one Super Mana Pot. Probably didn't NEED the super mana pot but I was WAY overhealing the rogue considering he was tanking (had 11k HP with improved fort).

I tried solo'ing it earlier by just healing Thassarian, even though his health stayed at 95% and up, at about the two and a half minute mark, Thassarian's health dropped to 0%, the mob said "Pathetic" and despawned o.O (Note, I didn't take one swing at Thassarian, this might have messed me up)

From the perspective of a level 71 Blood DK:

With my current gear and some crafted BOEs from Outlands, I had about 12500 armor w/ Frost Presence up (11.3K health), which helps to mitigate some damage. Just use your cooldowns accordingly (i.e., Icebound Fortitude, Rune Tap, Anti-Magic Shield) Basically, what you're doing is tanking the boss, so pay close attention to your health and watch out for Valanar's Soul Deflection. Spam Death Strike, keep up your diseases, queue up Rune Strike as much as possible and if you took up Sudden Doom, try to use Death Coil during Death Trance. Rotate through all of your abilities, so that you won't have to wait for the runes to recharge, but most importantly, Death Strike as often as possible to keep health up.

I did not have to blow any of my 3+ min cooldowns or raise my minion either. Keep some health pots on hand in case you need it. Most importantly, don't panic. I hope this helps other Blood DKs if they cannot find other players to group with.

Fury warr, Hunter and Resto Druid And Found this to be a Peice of Cake. We let the Hunter Pet Tank, while Druid Spams Heals on Everyone. Warr simple DPS, And Thassarian Basically Soloing this Guy.

The Pink beams are a total Pain if you dont Alert the DPS.

Other than the beams, Pretty Easy Fight if you Bring a Healer Along.

A strange thing happened while I was doing this quest.

While I was waiting with my group for our final member to arrive so that we could do this quest, another group came along and started it. One member of my group also attacked (while the rest of us stood around waiting for the respawn), and all members of both groups got credit for the kill, and were able to complete the quest.

This quest appears to be bugged at the moment.

People were talking about it on my server (Aerie Peak) in 1. General as I was recruiting for the quest. When my group go to the top and found Thassarian he was there, but nothing happened afterwards. He just had a grey question mark over his head and when you clicked on him he basically said "Hail" and your only available option was to click the cancel button in his text window.

Hopefully this is fixed soon.

Duo'd it as a 73 combat rogue (TBC blues/quest green equivalents) with a 71 arcane mage, also in quest greens. Tharassian died at the end, but as that dumbass Prince Valanar was standing there talking about what a pity it was we killed him.

Able to run to the ziggy to turn it in, quest finished.

Guess I'll contribute to the mass of posts that's going to get downrated.
It ought to be fairly easy to solo him for decently geared Shadow Priests.
Though the reflected damage hurts (yes, your DoTs ticking, though applied before he casts his reflect crap, will damage you), you just need vampiric embrace up, power word: shield at every CD, devouring plague at every CD, and attempting to LoS as many of the Vampiric Bolts as possible.

Not clear from previous comments, but the healer is required for Thassarian. I easily soloed this as a 72 lock with a Felguard for the tank. Just chain heal the pet and Thassarian never pulls aggro. You can even throw a dot up now and then. Takes a few minutes though...

As I did this quest later on in the opening of the expansion, it was not as easy find a group.

I, an experienced prot warrior in t5/t6 gear, and a warlock in half merc/half t4, ended up 2-manning the quest.

This guy is not to be taken lightly, as I had to pop Lifeblood, Last Stand, and Shield Wall. And a runic health potion.

The thing is that we ignored his spell, probably for the worse, but we did in factdown him, albeit I finished with 1.2k out of 17k base health.

So in conclusion, this is easily done with a healer and must be done with care without one.

Tried to solo as a protadin a couple of levels above. Was a bit overconfident and as a result saw the end of the fight out running away and desperately healing like a chump while Thassarian slowly whittled his health down. Valanar died before I did but the quest didn't complete, presumably because I was too far away when he bit the dust. So watch out for that.

Solo'd as a 71 Unholy DK, harder than the elite encounters in HF, but easier than lots of TBC ones. If you have any kind of healing or self-healing the encounter is pretty easy. Just make sure to let Thas take a decent amount of the damage first before getting aggro, and don't be afraid to burn cooldowns/pots etc. if you really have to.

If you've been following the quest series leading up to this one without stopping, your gear might not exactly be in tiptop shape by now. I believe the only repair NPC this side of Valiance Keep is the spear crafter in Unu'pe village. He's in the hut near the dock, down by the water (not up on the hill). 77.9, 52.2.

Pretty easy solo for a L72 BM hunter with a gorilla tank (L72, 15.9k armour, 10.6k hp with stamina scroll + Kibler's Bits buffs) and T4 level gear.

As advised above, I waited until after his first Soul Deflection before doing anything. Then sent in pet, popped all cooldowns, kept Mend Pet up, and pulled pet back and stopped dps when he did Soul Deflection again (only happened once). Soul Deflection is good in that it allows a few free ticks of Mend Pet, you could also pull the pet out of LoS if it's health gets too low.

Pet died just before he did, but even if it dies early I'd imagine you can just FD to put the mob back on Thassarian while you rez pet, so this is probably do-able earlier than 72.

This is quite easy if you have your shadow resist set from bc. his attacks will hit for around like 500 instead of the 2k.

soloed as a spriest wearing shadow resist set (shadow resist was at 313 with buff) had to use pet and dispersion and pop out once to heal but thats it. pretty easy

Fairly easy with a Hunter and Mage, once I learned to avoid casting during Soul Deflection.

We ended up vanquishing Val twice, because the question mark over Thassariann disappeared, and I hadn't turned my quest in fast enough. Turns out that was unnecessary as you can turn in this quest at Wailing Ziggurat.

Level 73 Affliction warlock. Did it kind of solo.
Had to use a soulstone to rezz.
Got the mob till about 10% and didnt want to wait till the elite npc killed it. Rezzed up and dotted it again. I had aggro from the mob kinda right at the start so had to keep using life drains while adding dots.

Did it with just northrend gear about 856 bonus damage.

Easily soloed as a 71 Demo Warlock. Felguard, DE whenever cool down is up, was able to keep corruption up the entire time while swapping between Drain life and Funnel health. I used curse of weakness, but I'm sure any curse you wanna use will work just fine.

All in all, a fun quest line to do, with some pretty slick rewards at the end.

Doesnt appear to be soloable as a healer. Tried to keep the elite up and just let him tank, but he takes massive amounts of damage when he tanks. He has 67k health and he needs all of that because he must have negative armor or something with how much damage he takes. You will run OOM pretty fast unless you have someone else to take aggro or DPS.

this is a really easy fight for a paladin(level 71 prot) all i did was when i got him to 50% health i Loh then kited him around the bottom of the circle LoS him while thrassian took him down to about 10% then i bubbled and killed him for the rest of the percentage
only thing you have to do is keep aggro and make sure hes on the plat form above

imortant :

a)u need a pet that holds aggro vs u and the npc
so, demo with imp vw (3/3) + imp funnel is a must (if u want it easy w/o potting/soulstone,kiting) (my solo zg spec), demonic empowerment + shatter helps ofc alot. Felguard may work too, but too stressy to heal up his compared low amount of Hp, and with cleave he runs oom fast and then no more taunts.,.

if u wait too long with aggro the npc just dies like a paperdoll and the quest resets and the mob vanishes
so its very important that ur pets gets aggro asap, put imp cow in the mob since he hits quite hard on ur pet (with imp cow still 1200 on vw, though cant remember if it ws the melee or the vampiric bolt, anyway - cow wont hurt))

b) do NOT use DOTs, with souldeflection it will hurt U
so just bolt the mob , if u get souldeflection on u, stop doing dmg, and take the time to heal up ur pet (funnel, imp funnel = -30% dmg on ur pet during funnel, he needs it, didnt try w/o)
19k vw (with glyph) went down to 7k - so check his hp and heal him as often -
u have time enough - ur pets hold aggro - npc wont get dmg , u wont get dmg, ur funnel outheals the mobs dmg - so just keep cow up, spam bolts and funnel ur pet. easy as cake if u know it.

U get a +30% dmg buff from the npc, so its still quite fast even with defensive tank specs.

Soloed as a lvl 71 Ret pally. Made sure Righteous Fury was off and I let Thassarian tank at the start until the first Soul Deflection was finished, as someone suggested above. I went easy on dps so Thassarian kept aggro and I healed him. Had Judgement of Wisdom, Seal of Wisdom and Blessing of Wisdom on to keep maximum mana regen going.

Whenever Soul Deflection was being channeled, I targeted Thassarian and dumped all my mana through Holy Lights on him. Then I went back to light dps to regen mana.

Toward the end I pulled aggro, but he was so close to dying I didn't need to heal myself or bubble before he dropped.

Just let Thassarian tank, heal him and go easy. Outlast and you can solo this.

If you can Heal and you are high lvl just aggro and heal yourself, you will get many resists and a lot less dmg then the NPC, he will do the dmg for you. Worked fine for me as 77 Shadowpriest, also if i have to admit that i had shadowprotection, but i dont think that made all the difference it dependet more on the lvl i think.

i myself as a lvl 73 balance druid was gonna help a warrior (with most TBC epics 13k hp) and a lvl 71 paladin (fresh to wow and with most borean tundra q rewards and some blue lvl 65-70 TBC items)
i died at the start of the encounter becayse i took aggro :P they managed great. warrior tanking and paladin dps and heal the warrior. they were both tankers1

if doing this quest post 77, do NOT try to fly up into the bottom of the necropolis like you do in naxx unless you do so very quickly. i was just casually flying up and in and was dismounted in mid-air. i was on a druid luckily, but any other class would have fallen to their death. there is a portal on the ground directly below the temple to get inside if you want to be extra safe.

Soloed as a lvl 70 Retri Paladin, only wearing quest gear.
Tried several methods, kiting, healing Thassarian, etc. but without success.
At one time when I managed to get him down to 25% a lvl 80 Horde player came along and killed Thassarian and then stood there for a while laughing at me. That really tickled my nerve.
Gave up but decided to see how long I could keep myself alive, just for fun. Used BoW, SoW, JoW to regain as much mana as possible and just brute force attacked with Judge->CS->DS (not during Soul Deflection) while keeping myself alive by spamming flash of light. Took some time but I survived the fight.
I never used consencrate since I didn't want to risk going oom. Also had concentration aura up to maximize the chance of healing myself. X)

the orb is to the right once you enter En'kilah. It's a bench like thing with a glowing light, walk right into it. Once you get inside walk up the stairs. And staying in this small inner circle walk up a small ramp to another glowing light which will transport you to Thassarian. You don't need to kill any mobs in there (unless to get by).

Almost Solo'd as a 71 afflic lock. He killed Thassarian just before I killed him (down to under 3k health). Died once and used soulstone to continue fighting. Had voidwalker until he died halfway through battle. mostly greens and some blues.

Did this quest as a lvl 70 Frost/Unholy DW DK.
I let Thassarian aggro Valaran at the beginning. I kept dpsing / watching my aggro while Thas tanked him.
I taunted Valaran when Thas was at 10% and I started kitting Val.
(use IT & HB otherwise Thas will aggro and insta gib die) Remember to abuse bandages and Anti Magic Shell.
When I was low on health I sacrificed my pet and summoned a new one.

Ok soloed this as a 69 ret paladin after a few trial & error runs (in terrible green questing only items). I believe that any class with the ability to heal themselves should be able to use my strategy.

Some important overviews:

DO NOT let thassarian have aggro, YOU need to keep aggro.
play defensively, don't worry about your DPS output--play with suvivability in mind. I used shadow prot aura, seal of wisdom, JoW.
Buff thassarian as he will be your main source of maintained DPS, he doesn't do much dmg and this will take a while (about 7mins on my watch)..so he needs all the buffs you can give him.
force Valanar to cast, not melee. (more details below)

Your primary goal is to keep him casting his "vampiric blood" ability and outheal it. It does about 1400~2000dmg per hit and heals him (but not for that much). If you are melee dps, you can safely melee him HOWEVER-- if he starts to melee instead of cast, BACK OUT....this will force him to resume casting (he won't chase you). This is key since his casts hit for a lot less than his melee.

When he starts to channel his soul deflection ability, stop attacking him and just top yourself off, and reapply any necessary buffs etc.

You don't have to worry about thassarian at all, and it might be a good idea to bring a mana potion if you're not too confident on your mana efficiency.

TLDR: pew pew him and pepper yourself with heals. If he hits you with melee, move out of melee range. don't attack during channel.

Read patch notes :P

It says that for feral attack power because they removed the feral attack power notification off weapons for other classes to be able to use with benefit, whereas they couldn't use them before.
I believe this was done in 3.0.8 but may have been the one just before.

Anyways, in-game, the feral attack power no longer shows on the weapon unless you're a druid.

Guide "How to solo as a retri paladin":

Let him he Thassarian get up a little aggro till the first Soul Deflection, then start to do Judgement and Crusader Strike. (Try to keep ur aggro down) If you should get aggro, use Hand of Salvation.
If Thassarian gets low hp, heal him.
If all goes acording to the plan you won't lose that much mana because of Judgement of the Wise.

Easy to solo as ret paladin, killed him in first try at lvl 70 with quest gear

Had Seal of Command and ret aura on, then i just nuked and healed myself, used divine protection, lay on hands and 1 runic mana pot

Used JoL -> CS -> DS -> exorcism and just spam them when they are off cooldown, use avenging wrath and trinkets

as said in prev post dont worry about dps you will get him down if you just keep yourself alive

Basically just kept dots up, and health funneled my fel guard. Wasn't too tricky.

First time I tried nuking him and that didn't work out so well. Second try just did what I said, + life drained when I got low.

Done as a lv 69 unholy DK: The trick is to use Frost Presence to generate enough threat to keep him locked on you, one full dps rotation is enough for the mostpart; you then kite him around using the trenches on the outside of the ring to stay out of line of sight.

Just keep running around non-stop and after about 5 mins he'll drop to your ghoul and Thassarian. When you have to run to a trench on the other side just pop Anti-magic shell or IBF to reduce the damage while you cross; last ditch scenario just pop Death Pact and summon another ghoul (I had to do this).

It's imperative you stay out of the Prince's LoS for this or you'll just die to his vampiric bolts in no time.

Completed as a 71 protection paladin. 70 is probably not possible as prot since I used divine plea to regenerate mana. With shadow prot aura up, you will still take too much damage from vampiric blood. And you can't outheal it since you're not getting mana from blessing of sanctuary and seal + judgement of wisdom aren't enough to chain cast holy light on yourself (at least with prot gear).

To solo as prot pally:

Use avenging wrath and create solid aggro at the start of the fight. Then jump to the lower floor, and LoS his bolts. Use avenger's shield when it's cooldown is over to keep aggro. Use divine plea when running, otherwise you'll run oom. Heal yourself when he uses his damage reflecting ability. If he turns to Thassarian, taunt and use avenger's shield. If you keep his LoS blocked, he will only hit you with one bolt as you pass each quarter of the area. You can just dps him down when he drops to around 10k health.

Did this one on my level 73 shadowpriest.
Buffed up with Shadow Protection and PW: Fortitude.
When the event started I used my Shadowfiend and I dotted him up with Vampiric Embrace, Devouring Plague, SW: Pain and threw a Mind blast.

Then I spammed Mind Flay and keeping up SW: Shield, and reapplying Vampiric Embrace when it closed in on timeout plus a couple of Mind Blasts.
Had to throw myself 2 Greater Heals, and chug 1 Super Mana Potion. At the end I used Dispersion since I was going very low, but Thassarian took him down since he only had about 3000 HP left.

You do need at least three people because it's not the part that you will die it's the part that Thassarian will die, and that is what you need to worry about, just kill him as quick as possible and don't steal aggro from Thass.

Feral Druids looking for an easy blue weapon should go to northern Borean Tundra, get the quest King Mrgl-Mrgl and go through his quest chain until they can use Winterfin Clams to purchase Tidebreaker Trident for only 50 clams. Feral Druids can use Polearms now, but will have to go train (Undercity/Silvermoon for Horde, Stormwind for Alliance)

Fairly simple Solo as Elemental Shaman, though requires basically every cooldown.

I did as such: Stayed by stairs, only had Healing Stream totem up - worthless anyway.

Start fight with Grounding Totem as the dialogue is ending. When he engages he will immediately Bolt, grounded, drop it again, second bolt grounded. Then Thass is in melee building threat. Drop a thrid grounding but he wont bolt again for awhile.

At this point I Flame Shocked (glyphed for longer), waited for first Deflection to be over, and dropped Flame Elemental Totem. Then I just healed Thass while my Elemental did my damage (threatless damage at that). When Elemental dropped due to suicide in next Deflection boss was at ~45% and my healing aggro was catching up on Thass. I dropped Magma, stole aggro, popped Heroism - and basically weaved Lightning Bolts and Healing Waves (keeping grounding totem on CD).

One time I jumped off stairs to LOS a bolt and heal just incase - but probably didn't need too. I also used a mana pot.

Affliction Locks can easily solo this guy. Lvl 71

9110 health/8500mana/637 spell damage in mostly greens. Imp was out and never pulled aggro but is affected by Valanar's Soul Deflection which was a slow drain on it's health down to about 50% at fights end. Fight lasted about a minute if that.

I let Thassarian attack first and get some aggro. Dropped unstable affliction, haunt, corruption and CoA. Pulled aggro. I was standing on the edge of the upper circle and just dropped down out of his line of sight and ran around in a circle away from him. Try to land a haunt on him when you can, healed me for 1000 to 1200 or so each time but you will take more damage trying to apply it if you are not careful. Other than the first haunt I maybe dropped 2 or 3 during the fight. Otherwise instant dot the hell out him.

His vampiric bolt hit me around 2K and soul blasts for 1800. Try to keep shadow ward up, take some of the sting out of what he hits you with. Thassarian will periodically pick up aggro which is perfect for dropping haunt and dots, giving you aggro again.

Hit one pot and one bandage but really an easy fight compared to my DK doing the same tactic. Picking up aggro at distance and healing is far easier with a lock. ;)

Soloed with lvl 72 DK. using mostly quest greens. Blood spec with a couple points in frost and unholy. I used one health pot, and an armor scroll I had lying around. I tanked him in frost presence, made sure diseases were always up. Icebound fortitude, rune tap, and Mark of Blood were essential to surviving. Fight didn't even last as long as Horn of Winter. So, less than 3 min. Play for survivability, and you should be Okay.

Let my Voidwalker and Thasserian take aggro for a while, whilst keeping VW alive with health funnel.

Then just kept hitting Valanar with Unstable Affliction, Curse of Agony, Corruption, and Life tap/Drain life, whilst hitting with my Shadowbolt when the 0 cast time procced, and also used Deathcoil at one point. Threw in a couple of Immolates to spice things up a bit ;D

Didn't need to use bandages, potions, or Sacrifice. Came out of the situation with pretty much full HP. Was surprised.

Soloed as 72 Unholy Death knight (green rubbish gear) .. as previously stated, keep him on yourself and exploit LoS. Unlike similar Horde quest - Breaking Through - Valanar won't "evade" as long as you are on the roof (be it on platform or undearneath it).

I used my stamina gear and frost presence. Started the fight with 1-2 rotations to get enough aggro, then ran down from the platform and waited for him to come, then ran across stairs and hid under another part of platform. From time to time I got hit by his spells, it's no big deal, you have ample opportunities to bandage while waiting (every 1 minute), then you have antimagic shell every 45s, I used it to quickly get 2 diseases on him and hit him with 1-2x death strike to heal. Also don't forget to use Icebound fortitude every 1 minute (as I did and still it was easy).

Here's my strategy for a Holy Priest to solo. I was level 71 in mostly quest gear.

The fight for you will have two phases- the first phase is when Thassarian has aggro, and the second phase starts when you get aggro. First phase is quick, with the second phase being the majority of the fight. How well you can manage your mana is what will win or lose you this fight.

Phase 1:
Let Thassarian get initial aggro. He will do the vast majority of the damage throughout both phases, and you won't really need to keep an eye on his health, as after about the first 30-60 seconds you will generate enough hate to get aggro. How much you heal him determines how long this phase lasts.

Phase 2:
LOS Kiting
When you get aggro, the boss mob will stay at range and pelt you with lifedrain bolts, an occasional instant shadow attack, and a channeled damage reflect. Your main tool in this fight is the two ramps. When the boss is in the middle platform you only have to nudge yourself a little below the top of the ramp in order to break the line of sight. When he is casting his only spell with a cast time, quickly break los with a few steps backward. The instant he stops casting, nudge yourself back in to los. Repeat as necessary. If he channels the reflect, just stay in los until he starts casting a bolt, then nudge yourself back down. Eventually he will get too close to the ramp for you to do this anymore, so cast Power Word: Shield and run across to the other ramp. Cast the shield because his life drain bolts won't drain life from your shield. When you get to the other ramp, just repeat the whole process.

Heal Tanking
A priest and his friends lives on his mana pool, and in this fight you need to buy enough time for Thassarian to kill the boss mob. Renew was my main heal, and the occasional Gheal, as well as PW: Shield when travelling between ramps. My best advice is to maximize both the damage you heal with renew and your time outside the Five Second Rule. Throw the occasional SW:P mana permitting.

Soloed with a resto druid lv 71. Surprisingly no matter how hard I heal Thassarian, he can always keep the aggro. Basically I just keep healing Thassarian while he does all the damage. His dps is really low, so you'll probably need a mana pot, innervate and good mp5 in order to not run oom before Thassarian finishes off the prince. However there's no feral weapon reward and the caster staves are no better than my heirloom hammer...

Also, why hasn't anyone talked about the plot...I know it's kinda obvious and all, but quotes like "It is clear I'm not welcome among my comrades anymore. I will have to find my own way, fighting no wars but my own and following no orders but my heart's" are still well written

Credit to all the posters above for giving great tactics and tips. Soloed this on my 71 retridin EASILY where I failed on my 80 warlock through sheer ignorance of the fight mechanics.

Used most of my cooldowns to keep alive, but was wearing quest greens and a couple of blues, no enchants, pots, flasks etc. Just judged light with SoC and spammed flash heals. Needed a couple of big heals when I got low and popped Gift of the Naaru when it got hairy, but finished the fight with 90% health and 50% mana. Let Thassarian do most of the killing.

Soloed it on my 69 gnome death knight, I died once but had time to run back and continue the fight before the human died. I was blood so I used Vampiric Blood + Rune Tap and Imp. DS to heal back up fast, had to use a pot also, used AMS, I managed to survive the end by 'avoiding' the vampiric bolts through going down the stairs to los them. All I can tell you is, be 70, it makes the fight much easier due to the resists/misses/etc. You can still do it at 69 but it's harder and somewhat luck based.

Just solo'd this on my hunter. Here is a tip for those who bought the Cold Weather Flying heirloom.
If you die in the middle of the fight- quickly release your spirit and fly back up to the top and port up- Thassarian will still be fighting Prince Valanar and you can still get credit if you kill him before Thassarian dies. I did it and it worked! Hurrah!

Well either blizzard chagned this quest or I did something wrong. I remember Thassarian used to be able to take quite a lot of hits when I did it on my main back when WLK launched. Now when I just tried it with my alt, he dies much quicker than I remembered.

Soloed this as a 72 combat rogue in heirlooms but I had the cold weather flying tome.

Pop evasion and damage him as much as possible until you get low on health. The longer you last (a healing potion works great but I didn't have one), the better. When you get low on health, vanish and heal up with a bandage. At this point you want to keep feint permanently on cooldown while you let Thassarian tank the rest of the encounter.

If you have the cold weather flying tome, you're not totally out of luck if you die. I died, release, and flew back and the fight was still going. I managed to down the guy about 5 seconds after Thassarian died. You won't see the ending but you'll still get credit. Fly down to the ziggurat you got the quest from and turn it in.

Ridiculously easy to solo has a Death Knight. 71 Blood DK, just attack normally until he does the Soul Deflect. Stop attacking, then continue. I only used Rune Tap a few times.

Soloed as level 71 Ret (8/15/39) Paladin.
I couldn't find the second portal at first and cleared the room before I finally figured out where the second portal was... I should have known!
** The second portal is DIRECTLY above the exit of the first portal, just walk out toward the two guards, kill them, then turn around and find the path to the level above the first portal (See the second screen-shot in this thread).
I thought it was going to be hard, but clearing the first unnecessary zone without Thassarian was harder than the little fight upstairs. If you can heal Thass, it will surely make a difference. He went low on health a few times and I feared he would die.

Realizing this is several patches after the fact, here's my two cents:

I'm a level 70 demonology warlock. Felguard tanked for me, and between DoTs, Health Funnel, and Drain Life my pet and I managed to survive the Soul Deflection. I will admit I held my breath for a minute there when my pet's health got down to below 2000, so I just focused on keeping him alive and it worked. I accomplished this solo.

I will say I think Fel Armor played a role in my survivability, however small. The health regen rate may be small but it adds up, not to mention the added spell power you get from it.

Just soloed this with a 71 Blood Death Knight.

Let Thassarian dps a little but make sure u make some runic power then u start dpsing with Dancing Rune Weapon.When u get the aggro just spam death strike and rune tap.
If u get on low life - vampiric blood death strike Raise dead and death pact.
When he does the spell that reflects ur spells continue spamming death strike and heart strike but dont do you diseases.U could first aid while he's channeling that spell too.
Try to time some of his 2k hitting spell with Anti-Magic Shell.

I tried Dps'ing, healing Thass once in a while, and keeping JoL up.. Thass heals himself 1600-1800 from it, but takes HUGE ammounts of dam all of a sudden.. Watched him die 3 times, and decided to try tanking him myself.. :-S

Use a shield, and JoL + SoC it was very easy, as long as u move away from melee range, when he "hurts too much" :) I did this as Retri lvl 68, with Scimitar of the Nexus-Stalker, King's Bulwark (ye, ye, ye, I know, but a greed roll, + only thing useful from a Nagrand quest..) + some normal green plate and a few mail items.

To remember:

Try avoid melee range, espc. when u got ½ life, or less...
Put on Righteous fury, so Thass will hammer away, without killing himself :)

Doing it like this, you should easily could take him down :) Retri Pala's don't really need mana.. I got 33% Base mana every 6 sec. with Judgements of the Wise + Glyph of Seal of Command...

It is pretty comfortable solo for a Draenei Prot Pala when you know the tactics. I am a fresh from outland, just dinged level 70 in a mix of Northrend starter greens and outland quest blues/greens.

Did it throughout with Shadow Resistance Aura (for Valanar's magic attacks); Seal of Wisdom (for mana regen) and with Blessing of Sanctuary (on myself and Thassarian)

I spanked Valanar with a JoL as soon the green light went off, exactly where he stands, and that, and auto-attack were the only offensive abilities i used throughout (which felt like being level 10 again). JoL and that, combined with spam healing myself with FoL when i was at about 50% health was enough to keep aggro almost the entire fight, i think i had to taunt Valanar once. Basically, just kept Judgement of Light up as close to 100% of the fight as I could muster, saving only if Valanar was casting his damage reflect (which is obvious to see, like a pink shammy chain heal) and auto-attack for mana regen through SoW between said damage reflects.

Defensive abilities used were the Draenei Racial "Gift of the Naruu" with a 3 min cooldown and Devine Protection, talented down to 2mins. I just rotated the two of these through out the fight. I did use a mana-pot at some point, toward the end, but it was pretty comfortable, and Thassarian was at pretty much full health at the end.

Just keep up JoL, auto-attack between reflects and spam heal yourself with FoL ftw.

Just give Thassarian a wee bit of aggro time then go to town, when you die, fly back up.

Thassarian Will still have plenty of health, took me two death as a 72 elemental shaman.

Solo'd this as a level 70 Paladin, just let Thassarian tank him at first, then use Avenging wrath and trinkets you have dps him down, use Gift of the Naruu ( if your a dreanei) Then every time Art of the War pops up, use it to do a flash of light! Heal yourself when he is soul channeling.. !Use bubble when needed.. and LoH when needed..

Did it with a 69 Arcane Mage and 70 Destruction Lock, both of us in mostly greens with a few outlands blues mixed in.

We started out by having Thassarian tank him, with my voidwalker out (taunts off) and I was soulstoned. He (the mage) just blew everything in his arsenal and beat on Valanar, while I threw Curse of Doom on Valanar and let Thassarian pick up some threat lead before I launched into my rotation. When I pulled aggro off of Thassarian, I simply popped Sacrifice to soak a good chunk of the damage and continued blasting him until I died, then I SS popped and continued dpsing on him.

It took 2 tries, but it worked.

As of patch 3.3, Thassarian now dies after about 10 seconds of tanking. It's still soloable, but don't let Thassarian tank or he'll die and the boss will disappear.

Even if you die, you can still solo this if you have cold weather flying. I quickly flew back and the encounter was still going on because thassarian was still alive. Then it was easy to finish him off the rest of the way.

Solo'd as a 71 affliction lock in outland dungeon blues, and nr quest greens.

Started with voidwalker out, to play hot potato at the beginning with Thass for threat. Casted haunt, then corruption, CoA, and Unstable Afflic. During the first spell deflect casted Shadow ward to absorb dmg form my curses. Have ss on you, and a healthstone and health pot handy, as you will need all three. used demon armor for when i needed to cast drain life, and got healed from haunt. Death coil also helps ya last a bit longer.

Now odds are, you are going to die. When you do, rez with the ss. Start nuking Val as much as you can, and pull out your infernal. Keep your dots up, and if you are afflic, keep haunt on him at all times.use shadow ward when its off c/d for the spell deflect, and keep drain life up, and you should be good to go.

Pet class soloing method

Solo'd with a level 70 Unholy (3/0/58) DK wearing quest greens.

Took me a few tries, but once I got it down it was relatively simple. Up until the first Soul Reflection I just let my Ghoul and Thassarian plink away at him (after an initial white hit to enter combat).

After the first reflection I blew all my CDs including my Garg and worked on him for a bit with AMS, Stoneform, and heavy Death Strike use. When he used Soul Reflection the second time I ran away and refreshed Bone Shield.

After that I was able to 'kite' him by going down to the lower area and running left-right-left-right switching his shortest path to me between two ramps, preventing him from ever reaching me or even obtaining LoS. I messed up once or twice and popped AMS to deal with the 1-2 casts he got off before I could re-situate myself.

The first time I did this I had to Sac my pet and I didn't deal enough damage to receive credit for the kill, so your pet is instrumental here. This method should work for Warlocks, UH DKs, and Hunters, maybe even Frost Mages with the new glyph. Just make sure you have a decent threat lead on Thassarian before you begin to kite.

EDIT - Will be even easier if you have the glyph to summon your pet w/o a corpse, as you can sac your pet for an easy heal then bring him back to deal damage.

Pretty straight forward fight as a Demonology Warlock at level 70. Fel guard held aggro all the time, the death knight and pet dealt all of the damage (I threw couple of shadow bolts here and there) and I just kept the pet's hp topped. Not sure if there were any changes to the fight, somehow I recall him summoning some adds or something, though I'm probably wrong.

Edit: Had about 850 spell power, if someone finds use for that information.

tried soloing as a fury warrior and no go... he has way too much health and hits like a truck.

was about to leave after trying twice and 2 hunters showed up and we got him to 20% the first time but apparently thassarin killed himself and everything reset.

the second time the hunters took turns tanking with their pets and i ended up dying but they finished him off and i still got credit. pretty tough quest.

A pretty surefire method for any warlock to solo this. It should work with any spec also -- I was full Affliction but this method doesn't involve Affliction spells at all.

Get out your trusty old Voidwalker and send him in as soon as the fight starts. Open with a single direct damage spell on Valanar. This is important, as you (not your pet) must deal some damage to him or you will not get credit for the kill or the quest! (I learned this the hard way, so I got a second chance to practice this method.)

Once you've locked in your credit, do nothing but keep Health Funnel up on your voidwalker for the entire fight. Soul Reflection is your friend with this method, as Valanar stops attacking while he channels it, and you should easily be able to top off your pet during that time (the damage Voidie takes from SR is pitiful, you will heal right through it). You take no damage at all from SR, as you're not actually hitting Valanar.

Have at least two instant heals (a Healthstone and a healing potion) ready for when you get low on health, so you don't have to break off the Health Funnel for too long.

Even untalented, the voidwalker should easily hold threat for the entire fight, ensuring that Thassarian stays up (another requirement of the quest).

This method is slow (took just under 5 minutes to kill him) but it is sure. I suppose once he gets down to 30k HP or so you could just burn him down, but I chose not to risk a mistake and continued with the Health Funnel for the entire fight.

I got so frustrated trying to figure out how to do this quest and get to Thassarian! After taking the first portal, I killed everything in the surrounding rooms, and couldn't figure out where he was. After reading more here, people posted about taking a second portal. I spent a good 10-15 minutes looking for it and couldn't for the life of me figure out where it was. I finally found it - above the first portal.

I figured I'd make a movie of the quest from beginning to end, so that you can see exactly where the portals (or "orbs" as the quest calls them) are and what to do.

Not exactly sure what happened, but Thassarian died so fast that I had no hope of getting this done alone. He was dead in about 30 seconds which is several times faster than I ever remember him dying. This was after about 2 of his purple lightning attacks, during which I stayed back.

I'll try again if I can find a group, but these days, that just doesn't happen.

When you finish killing the guy.... Thassarian is in the top and you can turn in your quest. If he dissapears because you took to long trying to figure out which item to get.... do not panic! You can always find him back in the ziggarat where he was before.

Earth Elemental to take some of the aggro
Heroism / Bloodlust came in very handy (As usual duh?)
Shamanistic Rage for the 30% damage reduction.
Feral Spirit for some extra DPS.

I could pretty much just DPS-Tank it myself, while Thassarian just keeped DPS'ng. Tried even using Wind Shear to decrease my aggro level, but no help really. Didnt need any additional help, buffs or potions at all.

but anyway.... rupture/garrote/dp can and will rock your face HARD when he hits spell deflection
saw pink beams, stopped atking, took 5 steps back.. and lost 9k... so .. yeah.. dont hit dots unless you can guarantee that theyll be off by the time he hits his next deflection

In case you're wondering why the portal at the bottom won't port you up so you can help your friend finish Last Rites, it's because the portal only effing works if you have the Last Rites quest (or have completed it i guess). LAME.

Perhaps they did that to prevent you from seeing lore ahead of time? I don't know. Been through this lore on a few toons now though so it was just frustrating.

This quest is very easy as an Affliction Warlock. The only tough part would be that Soul Deflection will make your DoTs that are on him damage you! Easy fix: Shadow Ward right before the fight and any time you can after that. Wouldn't stop Immolate, but all other DoTs won't hurt you when that goes up.

Well I solo'd at lvl 71 pally in 1 epic 4 blues and rest greens. As Holy speck I found that u must attack before Thassarian does or u just wont get enough aggro on him. U can take any spells used against you if u know what your doing. All in a days play.

Duoed by a elemental shaman and retadin both level 69. This method can be used to solo him as well.

Take the threat of Thassarian, put any damage increasing buffs on him and if you are duoing then this is much easier. Keep the threat on your self and stay by one of the ramps, have Show target's spell casting on. When you see Vampiric Bolt, jump off the ramp below, it will cause LoS. Wait a second or two before beginnning to run to the adjacent ramp, when Vampiric bolt is being casted again, run up the ramp enough so you cannot see him, this will once again cause LoS. Repeat this, and becareful as it is almost impossible to not get hit by his instant shadow cast spell.

If you can heal then use the time while he's casting Soul Reflection to healyour self up. Do not allow Thassarian to get the threat during this fight, if soloing it is entirely possible to hit him with a few instant cast ranged spells if you have them. I will say this now, This quest is a %^&*! and Duoing will allow for him to die much faster than with just thassarian or whatever pet you have smacking him.

I soloed as a 73 Death Knight, specced blood, with nothing but death strike and rune tap, with some difficulty. Wearing half quest greens and blues.
Here's what i did:
I let thassarian hit him a bit. he must've taken off around 10 or 15k off his health.
Then, i started hitting him with diseases and heart strike. Didn't summon runeblade coz it would eat me up on the reflect.
I kept at this till Thassarian started dying. Then, i pulled his aggro.
kept hitting him, now using Death Strike and Rune tap whenever it was available, Anti Magic shell at some point, and stopping damage at the reflect till he died.

After the battle, me being the lore freak i am, kept listening to the conversation between Thassarian and his sis. Because of that, i missed the chance to turn in the quest. a Mage showed up, so i helped him and noticed something. Thassarian was missing a LOT there. he got to 50% HP he had done only 5k damage. So watch out for that.

Just solo'd as a 71 resto druid, heirloom geared.

At starters it's not easy, I let thassarian do all the work at start, which isn't something you want intentionally cause of the debuff he gets. If you're healing be aware that he gets above 50% hp.

After a while I gained healing aggro. But that was easier then suspected. Since the prince only uses his spells it's not hard to outheal them. And since your healing the debuff wont matter just let Thassarian hammer away.

However... once the Prince is out of mana he'll start melee-ing, let's hope by that time Thass already gained aggro again.

From this points it's just easy since the Prince is out of mana he wont be using his spells that often.

Ps.: as druid, go melee him for free Clearcasting procs

Soloed as a level 74 Destruction Warlock (first try), though would be a damn sight easier as Affliction or Demonology.

Basically just done the normal Destro Warlock rotation (Immolate > Conflagrate > Chaos Bolt > Incinerate) with Curse of Elements up.

I recommend being soulstoned during the fight. I died when Valanar had 30% health, most likely because I was unaware of Soul Deflection at the time. I also was using a cookie-cutter level 80 spec and was not specced into Soul Leech.

I used the Voidwalker as opposed to the Imp, made sure to keep Shadow Ward up as well. Potions and Healthstones help, I also used my Voidwalkers Sacrifice ability. If you are a Destro Warlock specced into Soul Leech and also take note of when Valanar uses Soul Deflection, you may not die at all.

I fully expect Affliction Warlocks to solo it with great ease, Demonology Warlocks shouldn't have any problem if you use the Felguard right and pop Metamorphosis at the right time.

Gearwise, I had the heirloom shoulders and chestpiece, heirloom trinkets, a few blues from the Nexus and some quests and the rest were quest greens. I had roughly 11,300 health and 11,000 mana (buffed with Fel Armor and Demonic Spellstone).

My level 70 holy-spec priest did no damage at all, but focused on keeping Thassarian alive. He was a great tank, held aggro, and I focused on keeping his health at 100% at all times. Yes, there was a sudden drop halfway into the fight, but because he was always at 100%, it wasn't too hard to recover. He won't take down the boss very quickly, so be patient, keep your eye on your mana and his health. Treat it like an instance where the 3 DPS all wiped and it's up to you and the tank to finish this guy off, with the exception that at no point did I come to any harm no matter how hard I was healing. I drank one mana pot and sent in Shadowfiend for more mana, and Thassarian won, hands down (it would have been easier if he had better DPS and if I had better intellect gear!)

As a side-note, I also have a horde toon, and I have to say, that the Alliance version of fighting a single boss where you have an NPC tank is way easier than even considering soloing 3 elites as a healer priest!

Soloed it as a lvl 71 resto shammy. Got dual spec and first time tried to do it as a elemental, but Thassarian died just in last seconds of fight. If you fail the q just port down and then port back up, you don't have to abandon the q. Thass will be there again. Here is how I did it:

1. Enter the portal, you will get ported to Naxxaran (or something like that). Do not attack anything, like someone mentioned elites on that floor are for similiar horde's quest. After porting inside there is another portal just above you, enter it (it's like Naxxramas and that portal to saphiron and kel). After entering the second portal you will get ported again and you will be standing next to Thassarian.

2. Get prepared, eat, drink, etc. After talking to Thassarian you will start mini in game scene but I won't do spoilers.

3. When fight starts do not attack the prince. I've set focus on Thass and started to heal him (I use healbot). After few heals I got the aggro and I started healing myself till the prince went oom.

4. That's the most important part, when he's out of mana he starts to melee attack you. He doesn't cast vampire bolts that often thus doesn't heal himself that much. That's the moment when you can start dpsing, but watch out to not go oom. I just summoned fire elemental and healed them both (elemental and Thassarian, they will need heals). I guess priest can have a problem, he didn't melee hit me that hard, but I got 6,8k armor and I used stoneskin totem as well.

Fight lasted about 7 minutes, but wasn't that hard. His vampire bolts were hitting me around 2k, was very easy to heal thru it and thanks to mana I gained from water shield I didn't have to use mana tide totem/potions. My gear is mostly ilvl138 blue items, 3 ilvl 158 blue items from dungeons and 2 ilvl90 greens from outland. Hope this helps someone.

I was able to solo this as a 72 ret pally - but it did take guru's elixir, kings, a healing potion, lay on hands and a lot of self healing. I used the seal of wisdom to keep mana regen up because a LOT of mana is used to take this guy down. It was tricky, but doable.

Did it as a 71 retadin with a 70-something warrior and a 69 rogue. Not sure what they did, but I buffed all with BoK, had SoL up and Shadow Aura. I hit him immediately with JoL and got aggro. We all watched for Soul Reflection, otherwise just kept hammering away. I kept JoL up and Divine Storm, kept using FoL whenever I hit 50% health. I had to throw a couple of JoW in to get my mana up. It was easier than I thought.

I got pretty frustrated trying to do it on my own and was surprised how many people were on general chat looking for help with this. Ask and ye shall receive...if I'm around I would be happy to help someone out. I'm just happy to have that damn axe!

Just solo'd as a lvl 73 Combat Rogue. Started fight by using all CDs which got him down around 50%. Used a health pot the first time my health got down around 25%. When my health got low again I used Vanish and then bandaged back to full as Thassarian tanked for a bit. Then came back into the fight and between the two of us we finished him off. Depending on your DPS and health should be doable even earlier.

At the start I popped Force of Nature and just nuked him. Immediately after his first Soul Deflection, I popped Starfall. Since I held agro for the entire fight, the rest of the fight was basically just me nuking with Starfire between SD's, and healing myself. I had to pop Innervate once, and had a mana potion for backup (never had to use it).

Solo'd by my 71 shadow priest. There was an extremely helpful comment on the first page that advised to never let Valanar melee; as long as he is casting, his damage is easily negated by Power Word: Shield and being topped up from Vampiric Embrace. In a pinch, you can Disperse and send in the Shadowfiend for mana. Didn't even have to use a pot.

I buffed up Thassarian but he was barely hurt since I was tanking Valanar. Simply DoT him up and profit. :)

I just soloed this as a 69 Disc priest in quest and instance blues and greens. I focused on keeping Thassarian alive at first (I think I tossed a SW:P once) until I took aggro, at which point I just kited Valanar up and down the ramps as other comments here suggested, with another SW:P for fun, until Thassarian took aggro back. It was pretty close at some points and I used one mana pot and some of my rarely-used trinkets and cooldowns, but it worked out. It wouldn't have been as close if I'd remembered to toss a Renew or something on poor Thassarian while he was chasing us around, I think!

So thanks for the comments here, all. It helped me solo this for the first time.

Well...maybe L70 Blood DK is stronger than it was before 4.0.1 but I was surprised at how simple this was to solo in quest blues and greens (12k hp 11k armor, and quite important I think, 6% hit, which is hit-capped for a L70 against L72).

Just straight tanked him all the way and never went below 50% health. Use all defensive and healing cooldowns, plenty of Death Strike and Rune Tap, and stop attacking during Soul Deflection. Didn't use Dancing Rune Weapon in case he cast deflection while it was up.

This buff that you get from Thassarian helps a lot too.

Solo'ed VERY easily as a level 70 Demo Lock.

Just send in your Fel-Guard to grab all the Aggro and throw a few DoTs on Prince Valanar for good measure then just keep on the health funnel for the remainder of the fight.

I also stayed as far away from the fight as I could, standing still on the stairs but high enough up that I could health funnel my Fel-Guard

Soloed easily as level 74 BM hunter in average quest gear. As many others have mentioned, the key to doing this quest is to stop attacking immediately when he channels Soul Deflection. Other than that, you just need to nuke him and heal your pet if you are a pet-class.

This is hard as BALLS now that they buffed all the mobs in northrend. I had to try 3 times to do it as a lock, Thassarian gets his ass handed to him in like 10 seconds. Best best is to kite the guy all around and keep yourself up, if Thassarian gets aggro it's pretty much game over.

I solo'd him fairly easy as a lvl70 disc priest in random questing green/blues.

Let Thassarian tank, he will lose aggro constantly so hit fade whenever it's off cooldown.

Keep SW:Pain up and just keep both your HP up, inner focus + Gheal on Thassarian if his HP gets to ~50%

Takes a while, but i ended with over 70% mana left.

Attempted this quest today as a blood DK with improper spec, so I was not fully "TANKish"
Died 5 times looking for the NPC, until i realized I need to use 2 portals...

When I eventually found the NPC on the roof, I died fairly quickly, but as I am already level 70 with flying mount, i flew right to the top without using the portals, and the event was still happening!
Thassarian was stil fighting, I just pitched in, enemy died - Quest Completed.

Did this a 73 demo lock, the first time I tried I had him at around 30% and Thassarian died and Valanar despawned. Entering the green portal that takes you down a level and then re-entering the white that takes you to the top will respawn Thassarian so you can try again, the second time I ignored most of the advice on here and just dotted him up and let my pet go nuts with felstorm, when he casted reflection I recalled my pet for a second, spammed funnel a few times and then let him go back to fighting, after the first reflect I used demon form, summoned a doom guard and just did the usual dps which seemed to kill him fast, Fel Synergy managed to keep my pet alive with about 1k hp at the end.

As a side note the first time I fought nobody spoke but Thassarian which made me think everyone was talking but there was no text (I have sound disabled), the second time everyone had text when they spoke.

I tried it as a 71 frost mage, but if I did not get killed Thessarian did.

He is immune to deep freeze, frost nova and counter spell.

He goes through Thassarian like a hot knife on butter and it is very difficult for Thessarian to keep and / or regain aggro once Valanar targets you after a couple of hits.

I tried hitting him for a few and then ice blocking while Thessarian regained aggro, but in the 10 seconds that ice block was on, Thessarian was dead.

i solod this quest so easily it wasnt funny. 72 sub dagger rogue. wait for the event to start and let thassarian get a couple hits. shadowstep ambush shadow dance ambush ambush evis wait for soul deflection vanish shadowstep ambush backstab backstab evis wait for soul deflection again prep vanish shadowstep ambush backstab backstab evis and he died. i never got below 80% hp and thass finished the fight at over 50%.

you guys all made this sound hard...

Solo'd as a 71 Boomkin. Stayed un-shapeshifted and kept 3 stacks of lifebloom on, and only letting them expire when health was low, threw in a rejuv when needed. used insect swarm, moonfire, starsurge, when wrath/starfire to burn him, rince and repeat. i bet feral could also solo it.

My best advice for soloing this quest is take your time and don't attack when he does soul reflection. Keep healing potions and bandages on hand. You will need them. I lucked out at being able to heal myself.

Soloed quite easily as a 72 Elemental Shaman. Just burst cooldowns, set down both my Earth and Fire Elemental and just go loose on the elite. When he does his damage reflective spell, I just spammed chain heal so it healed me, my elementals and Thassarian and downed him with no trouble at all

Just soloed this as a 69 Blood Death Knight in half OL/half NR questing gear after 5 attempts (1 of them being me forgetting to bind some spells).

Much of what was said in previous comments still hold; concentrate on survival and don't let Tharassian tank. He'll die in about 15 seconds after the mob damage buff, the Prince will start shooting him with some shadowbolts (or something that sounds like them; not the Vampiric Bolts) that hit for about 25% of his health. As stated previously, don't attack during Soul Deflection.

This took several tries to accomplish, as dying puts in you a graveyard on the shore, and by the time you get back (unless you have epic flying) Tharassian will have died.

The key to soloing this as a Blood DK (tried as Frost, but Tharassian can't tank for long and you don't have enough self-heals) is to maximize the effectiveness of Vampiric Blood and Will of the Necropolis and to rotate cooldowns; avoid stacking them. I had to use a single potion (2200 heal).

Death Strike will be your bread 'n' butter damage ability. Use it as often as you can, except in cases where you need a death rune for Rune Tap. Death Coil/Rune Strike as a Runic Power dump, although don't go below 40 before you Death Pact and below 60 before you use Dancing Rune Weapon. Use Blood Runes for Heart Strike, and remember you have Blood Tap/Rune Tap in case of emergency.

My tactics:
-- Got Bone Shield up, waited for it to come off CD, and started by just DPSing him (pulled out my Ghoul).
-- As you fall close to 30%, Rune Tap. Right after you fall below 30% (WotN should have kicked in), pop Vampiric Blood, then Rune Tap again and Death Pact. This topped me off.
-- Around this time he channeled Soul Deflection: I stopped DPS, and after he finished and the 25% damage reduction from WotN faded, I popped Anti-Magic Shield and Dancing Rune Weapon (he tends to nuke with a huge shadowbolt after Soul Deflection, and DRW is extra damage with a bit of survivability).
-- Use Rune Tap and Bone Shield on cooldown now. Keep Death Striking/Death Coiling/Rune Striking.
-- After Dancing Rune Weapon faded, I popped Icebound Fortitude. He was at ~10% by now, and went down easily.

Good luck to all other DKs attempting to solo this, it's difficult but doable!

I soloed this quest as a 73 druid feral spec...took me three times but finished the quest. I thought I should keep the heals on the quest giver and let him fight it out but heals on the NPC are not very effective...So I switched over to bear form and worked the quest this way. When at about half health I would step back and heal to full health. I put all my intel/haste gear on (second as a healer so I carry two sets of gear) and third time was a charm. I had to use one healing potion at the very end as I was out of mana.

If you attack the mob you will draw aggro while the quest giver hits at his back.

I just did this solo as a 70 survival hunter with about a third blues and 130 gear score - no heirlooms. Just used a bear with guard dog and thunderstomp talents to help keep agro on the pet and off Thassarian and me. My basic attack when not healing the pet or bandaging was to make sure I had sting and black arrow up as much as possible and then to use the kill command and steady shot the rest of the time.

First time, I opened too soon and got all the agro and died.

Next time, I just sent the pet in first and healed him for a bit until he had a lot of agro. Then I opened up on the Prince. I finally got agro, and he sucked me down to 25% health, and I faked death. Got back up bandaged, healed pet, and began attacking again. Healed pet a little more, got agro, and I faked death again at 10%. Bandaged again and began attacking, pet died, Thassarian died, and then the prince died. Got my monster gun after flying back to where Thassarian gives the quest.

The prince never ran out of mana, so I never had to kite him around the platform.

Also, you do not have to find the transporter if you can fly in Northrend...just fly to the platform and Thallasian is there waiting.

Pretty easy solo as a 69 feral druid in all quest greens/blues, cat form the entire time.

Feral charge for the free ravage whenever possible, keep mangle and rake up, rip whenever you have 5 combo points, regrowth with the predatory swiftness. Whenever the pink beams begin flying, take the time to stack 3x lifebloom and a rejuvenation.

Pop survival instincts/barkskin if you're getting overwhelmed, berserk for the 50% energy cost when you're hardcore dpsing.

Here's a new wrinkle. I died in procees so waited for Valanar and Thassarian to finish their battle. It looked like Thassarian would win, but in the end both died. I got quest complete, but no way to turn it in.

Well, the answer is to fight again, and win of course. But you don't have to abandon and retake the quest, you just have to fight again.

I was right about to finish the quest and everything, but he literally just vanished before I could finish the quest. Grrrr! At least I had the satisfaction of soloing Valanar not once, but twice.

Just soloed it with my lvl 71 hunter, running BM with a cat.

Used pet mend on the cat before firing first shot, then just kept ss and concussive on the target while hitting mend regularly. every time the pink line of Soul Deflection appeared, I stopped firing and backed down the ramp to quickly break the link. Then back up to line of sight again to mend and keep up with the debuffs and arcane shots.

It went relatively quickly, but the key was the tip above about Soul Deflection. Not attacking while it's active makes all the difference!

Solo'd this as a 70 Assassination Rogue in full Heirlooms/Brutal Gladiator -- took a few attempts to figure it out as Thassarian was constantly dying.

Had no problems soloing as a 69 Enhancement Shaman with solid quest gear (no heirlooms).

I really didn't even bother utilizing an efficient strategy - I've been extremely overconfident since getting Spirit Wolves and so far have not been proven wrong.

Charged straight in with Thassarian and popped Shamanistic Rage, followed by both Elemental totems (you'd probably be better off with Stoneskin) and finally the Wolves once things got rolling.

Had I died I would have researched his abilities a bit, but as it was I didn't even bother to throw out a Wind Shear (I know. like i said, overconfident.) It was quite a big cluster between the him, the two of us, and my 4 pets. I love that I can have 4 pets. Anyway.

I did save most of my Maelstrom charges for heals, and Earth Elemental was actually able to gain the aggro about 2/3rds through the fight where he hadn't had it at all before that. But other than that, it was basically a bum rush.

Not soloable as a 69 warrior, unless perhaps extremely well geared (and even then, with no TBC raid gear it will be absurdly hard). Spell Reflect does work on Vampiric Bolt and Soul Blast, but Vampiric Bolt also heals him (therefore completely neutralizing the spell if you reflect it onto him) and Soul Blast is very weak in comparison.

The lack of healing talents and abilities is what makes this a hard fight. Any healer should be able to solo it without any difficulty, even in quest greens. Unfortunately, for any non-healing class (especially non-ranged classes that cannot kite) this is much harder.

Edit: Three days and I've already been downrated? If someone has solo'd him as a level-appropriate (72 or less) warrior, I'd love to hear how they did it instead of mindlessly downvoting posts. Unless someone has solo'd him at 69, this post remains relevant (as most players coming from Outland will receive this quest before they hit 70, assuming they left TBC content at 68).

Other notes to add: As has been stated, you can fly back after death and resurrection and the fight will continue until either Valanar or Thassarian is dead. Unfortunately, Thassarian cannot be allowed to tank for long without heals because he will kill himself on Soul Deflection. Healing classes can keep Thassarian up throughout the fight and allow him to tank, but bandages from non-healing classes are not sufficient.

I did this a couple hours ago on my lvl 72 warrior, one quest away from 73. I did have the pvp plate shoulders and the pve breast plate, not the tanking one. I do not think these helped that much though. Honestly I think its more important to get as much hp as possible for this quest. I had 12,500 or so. I went in as prot spec for the damage mitigation and possible spell reflects. It is mentioned in a previous post that spell reflecting his vampire bolts heals him; however, the healing is negligible and it's much better for you to keep your hp then for him to gain 2000.

The way i did it was i kited him around the roof of the ziggurat. You can stay below the upper tier of the floor and force him to run to you. I started the fight popping commanding shout, shield block, and shield wall. Hit him with everything I had so that he would be eating from my threat pool the entire fight. Got him down to bout 80,000 before he soul reflected and i dropped below the middle tier of the floor and started bandaging. Form this point on i just keep running on the bottom tier floor kiting him, till Thassarian dpsed him down. You CAN'T stun him; however you might be able to slow him with hamstring.

Bandage whenever possible,make sure you have heavy frostweave bandages at least and a runic health potion. pop shield reflect all the time. When kiting make sure he starts coming down one of the ramps before you run the other way.

On a side note, this is pretty much me making a wild guess, I believe Soul Reflect has a 30 sec cooldown and it is his priority cast. This is one of the reasons why kiting him worked. A majority of the time when he could have just casted me to death he instead popped Soul Reflect allowing me to get away. If you can stay out of his range for long enough chances are he will just Soul Reflect when he gets close enough.

I think any class lvl 69 and up can use this method to get the kill. Just make sure Thassarian takes as little damage as possible at the start so that he can survive the occasional Soul Reflects while kiting. Hope this helps all you sad souls doing the long trek through Northrend to get to 85.

Soloed this as a level 70 feral druid (only kitty talents), with quest greens and no heirlooms. Some tips here:

* Don't try to solo that in cat form since it's too hard to manage threat to make Thassarian tank it, also you don't want him dead because the fight resets.
* Stay in bear form and stop attacking when he casts Soul Deflection. Use that time to heal yourself.
* Note that if you are a night elf druid, you can use Shadowmeld if you have to. Fight won't reset until Thassarian dies and you can still get the quest done after leaving combat. Same rule applies if you die.

You recieve the quest from Thassarian, then since you have a flying mount, fly to the very top of Naxxanar. You will find Thassarian in the outermost part of the center at the top. you click on him and speak with him. He invites you to help him. follow him to the center. Then, an ghost image of the Litch King appears, then Prince Valannar (something like that). They talk back and forth, then the Prince offers the Litch King to kill us. Then Litch King ghost goes away and the Prince starts attacking. Kill the Prince and then gold question mark appears over Thassarian's head. Turn in quest and thats it. I soloed it at level 71 with my minnion as a Worgen Warlock, lol. Have fun. Oh, the Prince has 115k health.

i ran most of the time in circles in the lower platform trying to avoid the los and using ams to minimize the bolts damage when he caught me, also healing myself with rune tap whenever i could and death strike when he finished channeling his soul deflection spell
i roughly hitted him for about 40k damage according to recount, the rest was up to tharassian

had to do the quest twice though...the first time it didn't completed...i don't know if it was because i inflicted too little damage and thassarian practically killed valanaar by himself or was just a random bug

I lost twice in a row as ele because Thass died, but as resto I was able to keep him up, and myself alive, and throwing out an earth elemental once and searing during the down time. Took a while but got it done. With players activities no longer focusing around Dalaran, it is rather likely anyone doing this will have to try to solo it.

Yep, you can solo this as a Beast Mastery Hunter. Just keep your pet healed constantly, and when he's almost dead, pop him once with arcane shot to make sure you get credit for killing him, then go back to healing and done.

Even if Thassarian dies, you can still complete the quest by killing Valanar before he despawns. Thassarian shows up again at the starting place and if you talk to him the fight begins again. However, if you don't do that and return to the Ziggurat, Thassarian is there with the question mark and you can turn in the quest.

Dual spec resto/balance druid, lev-72 running solo.

Fired up as resto and I tried to just outheal damage but realized he was sucking health from me faster than the NPC friend was hurting him. So I kept a Moonfire on him and tossed Wraths at him when I had time free. Between me and the NPC, we wore him down without much difficulty. I did go through a lot of mana (Innervate + a mana pot). But all in all, it was just a matter of time.

Quest bugged for me right now. My 69 druid did it, feral at first and died (cat, got aggro almost immediately, went bear and died in seconds), so I flew back to the top of the place rather than going through the building. Thassarian was dying so I just waited it out, and started the event again.

This second time I swapped to resto and just kept healing Thassarian, when he went low I popped into bear, taunted and then went out of form to heal myself. Somehow I tanked better than Thassarian.. and resto tanked better than bearform (indication that I wasn't paying enough attention to his debuff, *coughs*). :P

At the end Valanar died, I got the dialogue etc.. but no quest completion. I'll try leave and re-enter the building and do it all over again, see if it helps. It's definately do-able in quest-greens/blues, just takes a wee bit of micromanaging. And hopefully no bugging out..

Edit; Ok, this time it worked. Did same as last time, i.e. resto. I tank better than Thassarian to be honest, he's not very bright with the debuff. Try keep aggro and self-heal and this is easy-peasy. Just don't try to fly up and skip the portals, doesn't seem to work, hehe.

damage he did to me. make sure you use your 31 point talent and you'll be fine.

my gear is complete trash as i went to northrend with 100% questrewards from nagrand + shadowmoon valley, so if i can do it - you can too.

I soloed this as a lvl 69 Arcane Mage.

At first I tried just nuking, with both an arcane spec and a fire spec, lowest I got was 30%, and that was just dumb juck.
Problem for a mage is his damage-reflect, you'll get instakilled if just one spell backfires, and that is almost impossible to avoid happening, a lousy mana shield won't stop an arcane blast crit and mage ward won't help as the reflected damage is shadow.

What I did was spec arcane and pretty much just nuke for threat, jump down, and continue to outrange him/keep him out of line of sight, while keeping mana shield up.
This way his bolts won't harm you (mana shield) and you can just burn him down with a 360/180+180 arcane barrage combo, coupled with a max-range nuke right after he finishes his reflect-spell.
Just remember to stay close to a ledge so you can LoS him again after the nuke, your Mana Shield CD will need the time.

It's intensive, but very doable, managed it the first try, but if you aren't a good kiter (i.e. vanilla WoW hunter kind of kiting, for easy reference) you won't pull this off.

When the fight starts, drop Earth and Fire Elemental totems, as well as healing stream and windfury totems. Beat him down until he kills your earth elemental, and then he should be at about 30%, pop Shamanistic Rage and Gift of the Naaru if you have it, maybe even Heroism. If needed, summon your spirit wolves.

More Backstab spam.
5CP Slice and Dice.
Pool energy.
Dance/Trinket/Premed/Ambush.
5CP Eviscerate.
Ambush spam.
5CP Eviscerate.
(I was ~25% at this point, had solid aggro, no more Vanishes and Thassarian is almost dead.)
Soul Deflection up: Sprint > run away and bandage. (Back up to ~50%, Prince is sub-10%).
ShS back and Hemo/Eviscerate spam.
Prince dies.

Let's just say I have a newfound appreciation for group quest bosses that are susceptible to CCs.

Easily solo'ed as a level 72 BM hunter. I used a turtle who tanked, and kept Mend Pet up as well as Shell Shield and Cower when they were off cooldown. Also popped Bestial Wrath and Rapid Fire as well as two trinkets.

The key,a s everyone has said, is to stop attacking when Soul Deflection is cast on you, and to keep healing your pet.

I guess the changes with Cata really buffed us as I remember that this was impossible for me to solo as a Blood (pre-Cata) Death Knight.

Started by waiting for Thassarian to attack, then went mirror image, icy veins, and started nuking (FoF to Deep freeze, 9k crit off the bat). Stop casting when he does the reflect, and keep ice barrier up at all times. First try, no pots or scrolls.

Mirror image makes this easy because it screws up his threat, and he gets confused. Nice staff.

As of the 4.2 patch at least you cannot let Thasserian tank him, he will kill him before he even gets to the first soul deflection cast. My strategy on my warlock was to let my blueberry tank him while I drain tanked. Worked out reasonably well.

This was easily soloable as a prot Pala.
Just take the teleport, then take the one above it, watch the conversation and kill the meanie.
Only needed to heal myself a couple of times.

this quest can easily be soloed by a boa and few quest blues geared 72 feral druid when the fight starts let thassarian get agro and heal him as much as you can mana potions recommended not mandatory once you blow innervate and potion if you have and your down to abbout 1.5k mana go bear and charge in just do not charge him when he does his soul deflection deal even in bear your going to take allot of damage so pop barkskin right of the bet as well any cooldowns you may have that includes enrage and frenzied regeneration stop dps and step back as soon as he casts soul deflection use this time to heal up shadow meld when you get low on health let thassarian take the heat for a while heal up jump back in the fray rinse and repeat

Level 70 Enhance Shaman solo.

Very easy quest for us Enhance shamans, I did not even drop under 60% HP, thanks to maelstorm procs using greater healing wave.

At start of the battle, just drop your totems. Pop your Feral Spirits, drop your fire elemental totem and pop heroism. He will die before you even know it.

Just stop DPSing him when he cast the purple beam. That should be for everyone doing this quest.

In about 30 seconds, I was off flying away on my mount.

Just finished this fun quest for the 4th or 5th time. When Valanar died, I was too slow in deciding which reward to take so Thassarian despawned. After a short time, he appeared atop the platform again, so I spoke to him and killed Valanar again and enjoyed the scene where he speaks to Laryssa and grabbed my reward before he was gone again.

Was all cocky to solo it (75 Fire mage) BUT this guy has over 115k health points! Thassarian proved to be of no help as he doesn't seem to ever get a whole lot of damage on him. I seem to get 60-70k off him, but either I die or Thassarian does.

Gotta try some new strategies... if I hold aggro, Thassarian doesn't seem to add much damage and I end up dead, if I let Thassarian tank, he dies.

BTW, that Trident isn't that great as I would have to give up 150 points of Spell Power.

Ah, read all the other comments... it's the Soul Deflection that is getting in my way... I DID try to tank him with my mirrors but just kept spamming Pyro which is what killed me!

This quest got nerfed to the ground in patch 4.3 -- as part of the Outland/Northrend flow improvement, most group quests were reduced in difficulty to soloable status, including this infamously hard one.

Valanar has gone from about 120k health to about 45k, and most of his attacks are jank now. The only real threats are, as before, Soul Blast and Soul Deflection. But this is a pretty run-of-the-mill solo quest now, zero challenge compared to what it used to be.

Solo'ed as a 71 Ferel Drood with 10.5K health. I kept focus on Thess and healed him until my mana was OOM then I shapeshifted into Cat. then: Prowl > Ferel Charge > Rake > Mangle until combo points full > Ferocious Bite - then back to Mangle until he was d-e-d!

Those looking to solo this in the future: there is no need to pay much attention to the previous suggestions for the battle, as this has been made very easy in a recent patch; I soloed as a 73 hunter and finished in under a minute.

Wow I love rogues.....This is the first time I have solo'd on a appropriate level player. Yep only 70! But I did have to do some flasks, and vials to survive this one. I had to do that other times too though and did not survive, but this time had over 25% HP left and he was dead dead dead. LOL,
As a rogue though you can stealth attack as the LK gives his usual 3 minute speach of how you should not come back if you fail me
This is doable in solo if your quick and powerful. You come in to this fight with crap gear and he will wipe the platform with you.

As it were, if you cannot get the quest from Thassarian then this is probably what you need to do:

Goto Valiant Keep, finish the quest line given from Sergeant Hammerfall up until Plug the Sinkholes (71)
Turn around and accept the quest that's now available from Mark Hanes the NPC near the boxes just infront of Sergeant Hammerfall Word on the Street (71)
Go turn in this quest on the 2nd floor of the VK Inn
Continue the quest line up until Thassarian, the Death Knight (72)

Lastly, there are a few quests you must do for Thassarian before receiving Last Rites, but they're not too bad, and it's self-explanatory from that point.

Don't fret about all the mentions of "Quest Chains" their either all VERY close to Valiance Keep or are simply "Go talk to this person" quests within the Keep.

They really nerfed it. I did this as a lvl 68 assassination rogue in all quest greens... quite easily. Then, I spent too much time looking at the quest rewards, Thassarian walked away from me and his yellow question mark disappeared. So I did it again. It was even easier the second time.

This was a good challenge before they nerfed it and removed the elites. I remember doing this for the first time, you really wanted at least 3 people, at level 70 at least, before you attempted it. When it was done, you felt like you actually accomplished something, which made getting the reward, the axe for me, that much more better.

I couldn't believe that after reading all of these posts that this quest is soloable! I guess Blizzard is realizing that most old group quests is getting harder and harder to find groups for them because everyone is rushing for the new content, so they are nerfing almost every group quest so it can just be taken on by one player.

Is there a horde counter quest for this? Cause I can't seem to find one that gives such a reward.(Besides the neutral quests in Coldarra and Harald Lane and such) There are also none in Howling Fjord.

I teleport and have NO sign of Thassarian anywhere. I abandoned the quest and picked it back up but he stays with the bound spirit and I can't go on from there. I even killed everything in Naxxanar several times and still nothing. What am I missing?

I had zero issues fighting him solo, I am a 71 night elf marksmanship hunter and I killed him in 15 seconds. I threw down 2 traps: Explosive Trap and Snake Trap then I popped my trinket: Talisman of the Tundra, then used Rapid Fire and the rotation goes as follows:
Aimed shot
Chimera Shot
Steady Shot x4
:instant cast: Aimed shot
Chimera Shot
Arcane x 2
Steady Shot x 2
Kill Shot

Literally no longer than 20 seconds and he was done.

Don't leave the area as soon as the quest is complete like I did. If you do you'll have to repeat the quest as the yellow question mark over Thassarian's head will be gone.

Soloed as 77 Frost Mage. Easiest fight ever. Barely lasted a minute, if that long. Go for it. Use portals to go up. Use same portals to go down.

Wasn't sure what I was up against going solo (70 MM-Hunter) after reading all these comments. IMHO... the hardest part was finding the portals there!
Very solo-able now, don't let the older comments scare you.

I solo'd this as a 71 Arms Warrior, no potions used because I made the fatal mistake of using Bladestorm during Valanar's Soul Deflection, I died nearly instantly. I released, ran back on a ground mount and I found Thassarian with about 30% health and Valanar with 3k health left. Seems Thassarian can solo this guy no problem. I watched the quest text and Thassarian disappeared, but do not worry. You can go back to the Wailing Zigurrat to turn in the quest.

I did this a lvl 70 blood death knight and it was fairly easy i got it on my first try, just make sure to use horn of winter, your ghoul and bone sheild. That and use whatever self heals you have when you can. I killed him and still had half health

Do you know if this guys fought as Horde? Not sure, But By his saying in Icc Im guessing theres a Horde version of it. Oddly the Quest rewards are from 2 completely Deferent quest chains.

Solo'd as a level 71 Feral Druid with mostly blue gear. Activated Barkskin at the start and used Renewal when I was down to about 70% health. He got me down to about 2k out of 11.5k health before he died, but overall it was nothing terribly difficult.

this may be already listed, but don't spend too much time after the kill before completing the quest. I was reading thru the desc, and the item rewards, and it re-set. I had to do it again.

I flew into the temple area, saw the platform with it's purple aura and landed right in the middle of it. This took me up to the MIDDLE level of the citadel. I killed everyone on that level a few times with no problem waiting for Thassarian to show up. Then I saw the comment above by dummytm and I realized I was never able to find the white portal above the green one to get me to the platform everyone was talking about. I realized I'd have to wing it and flew off one of the balconies up to the top of the citadel, which is nothing but a huge platform. Because I have no graphics card to speak of, I didn't see ANYONE up there. I had to land, get off my ride and run around until I found Thassarian hanging out on the rim which is just a tad lower than the platform. That's when all the other comments on this page made sense. I waited for him to talk, he started the fight, I shielded and healed him and then right when I was able to kill the boss some other little *#@$ player flew up and killed him by themselves, forcing me to quickly abandon the quest and restart it as I did not receive any credit for his death or any loot. If this other player hadn't disappeared so quickly after killing the thing, I would have reported him. Now when I see someone coming close to a boss I'm trying to kill that's taking a while, I know to write their names down so I can report them later if they poach my kill. At any rate, I let Thassarian do all the hard work while my level 70 Disc Priest shielded and healed him and then I hit my kill button (Shadow Word: Death) when it lit up (I was never in any harm). If you want to do this quest quick and easy, just forget all the teleporters and fly way up to the top of the citadel where Thassarian is to get it started. I don't know what loot drops on the middle level, but none of it was better than what I had (Prophecy and other loot from Molten Core dungeon). They boss died really easy when I switched from healing mode to killing it, but I probably had a lot of spell effects stacked by that time.

Quest is currently bugged on 5.1 and cannot be completed. Thassarain can be found on the top but will only say, "Hail, <Character Name>" and that's it.

DON'T bother with the transports, just fly up to the top.

At first I thought he wasn't there, thinking maybe it was going to make me use the orbs, but then I read a previous post that he is off to the side, which turned out the be correct. He is on the ledge next to the platform, so just run around the side until you find him.

Please stop reporting it fixed, when you don't know if that is the case. In 5.3 many people still have problems, but the bug is realm-dependant so it may be fixed on one realm while persisting on another. It is likely an issue that can be reset by a GM and thus the bug will sometimes be present, and sometimes not.

How to fix this quest if it is bugged!

If Thassarian won't start the event, and you have a high enough level Horde or know someone who does, kill him. It will reset him and fix the bug, letting you complete the quest. The nice thing is there are likely several people stuck this way. Announce his reset to general and you'll have all the help you need if you're a squishy class.

Completed this quest solo as a lvl 69 hunter, waited less than an hour for a GM to reset the quest, if it's bugged just pop open a ticket :) Happy hunter with a really nice weapon :D

There is no "Orb" to go to. It's a flat table or maybe a small "altar." An Orb is round, like a ball, not flat like a table. Step on the table *poof* ....

Once you get past that WoW gafff., you'll be teleported up into the large "space ship" looking item in an area filled with green glowing light. Step out of the green area and look for the blue glowing light to your left or right ... either way, you're going into in the same blue area. ... step into the blue light. You've made it.

They must have watered this one down. I just soloed it as a 73 demonology lock. I let Thassarian and my felgaurd tank for me. Dotted him then spammed soul fire. He died fairly quickly and my felgaurd only went down to about 50% health. In fact as I was writing this I just watched a 71 DK solo him and he only dropped down to about 80% health. I'm a tad dissapointed after reading all the comments about how difficult he was, I was expecting a little more of a fight haha.

This quest has since been made EXTREMELY simple. Takes about 10 seconds to kill him as an Assassination rogue. No party needed no strategy needed. All I did was let Thassarian attack for a few seconds (which I found out doesn't matter). Then just beat him down. I was in crappy quest gear with no special buffs and used no potions of any kind. He doesn't hit as hard as he used to, no more adds that pop up (that I noticed). Just burn and leave.

If you don't hand in before the dialogue between Thassarian and Leryssa finishes and the former disappears, you can go back to the Wailing Ziggurat to hand the quest in (Thassarian is still there). You don't need to redo the quest.

For those in 2019, if you only see the ! on the map near the Temple City of En Kilah, this is NOT where you pick up the quest. Go to The Wailing Ziggurat at 84, 40 and you will find your man Thassarian. I understand that you have just been questing around here but I left the quests at this point and came back later. I did not remember that Thassarian was standing there since the ! is in a different spot.

Oh well. I got there, Thassarian was there and a length conversation ensued, then a level 98 player came and killed the baddie instantly. Then Thassarian did a lot more talking and disappeared.

To anyone who can't complete the quest because the objective doesn't get completed after you kill Valanar, just try to do it without being in a group. This worked for my GF and I but we had to kill him like 5 times and restart the game and forget the quest, until some solo guy came and did the fight with us and it worked for him, so we thought that being grouped was the issue. And yes it was. Just ungroup and start the fight again. Cheers!

Last Rites

Go to the Temple City of En'kilah and find the teleportation orb beneath the floating Scourge citadel of Naxxanar. Use it to reach the top and help Thassarian there.

Description

I served Arthas in death, because I had no choice. He had control over my will and my body. The Cult of the Damned serves Arthas in life... willingly.

Now that we know the words of power to enter Naxxanar we can put an end to the cultist blight. Go to En'kilah and look for the teleportation orb beneath the floating citadel.

Work your way up and meet me at the top. Arm yourself with what courage you can, we might not make it out of this alive.
