You can always just zig-zag fly around while going forwards and going up and down with the mouse. If thats too hard, then yeah.. i guess try and stay ahead of him.

The quest reward listed here seems to be wrong. I received 18g, not 8g.

At some point during this flight, Ichman will swoop down very low and pass through the flayer area. Do NOT, repeat, do NOT swoop down! If you accidentally touch ground, the flayers will all immediately aggro and dismount you. Stay above Ichman when you see him diving low to the ground.

The names "Ichman" and "Mulverick" are references to the characters of the movie Top Gun "Iceman" and Maverick". I guess having Ichman say: "You are still dangerous... you can be my wingman anytime" after you defeat him would have been too obvious...

Managed to defeat him first try, no idea how as The Vet gave me some trouble. In the first and last fourths of the race he'll doing a quick roundabout that looks like it could really scew someone up if they dont have him selected. My tip is keep him targeted so you can see his green name, if you dont you might get him mixed up with a skybreaker and lose him.

Easist way for me to get all these done was to use Alt + Z while having the person I'm racing targeted while being naked in case I died.. It helps because you dont have to look at your UI while flying and can concentrate just on what he's trying to throw at you..

This guy is really fast. The best way to beat him is to stay above him. He likes to fly low to the group and trick you into aggro'ing the flayers. Fly above him, as soon as you see the fireball appear, fly a little higher and you'll be out of its range. You'll be safely ahead of the explosions by the time the fireball splits. Like the last guy, don't let him get too far ahead.

Seriously, I am really getting sick and tired of this quest... It seems so bugged. I don't even get close to being hit by a meteor, but still it knocks me off. I know I will finally complete this quest if I keep trying, but for now it's just too frustrating.
Anyone else noticed this incredibly annoying bug?

Can't do it after 10 tries. IMO, if you have latency issues or your computer lacks the processing power this quest is virtually impossible. I know my game is very choppy with a lot of stuff going on and it can't keep up with the race. I get knocked off my mount when there's no projectiles on the screen so I'm basically flying blind and praying one doesn't hit me. Last try we were coming in to land, no projectiles anywhere and I fall off my mount. Ridiculous.

So, don't know if anyone noticed this, but both the Wing Commanders have names similar to the main duo in the movie Top Gun. Iceman (Ichman) and Maverick (Mulverick).

Obviously, Tom Cruise was the hero in that movie so the character based of the role he played must have a harder race, right? Of course maybe that's an incorrect assumption to make...

Finally beat him this way: fly above him, dive towards him with mouse, while tapping the jump key quickly. This will greatly throw his aim off. The only thing I had to worry about is skybreakers since I'm naked and couldn't take many hits.

Well well well. Alliance spend two months total complaining about the new AV imbalance (which I agree with) and Blizzard takes steps to correct it (Balinda and Van buff). Horde had an imbalance issue for years (which I agree with) and Blizzard's answer is an in-game taunt.

Is it just me or do both of these quest givers (ichman and mulverick) make fun of horde players? I understand jesting about the bridge thing but shouldn't Mulverick use an equally stereotypical alliance complaint? I have played on both factions in AV and trust me the alliance complain just as much as the horde.

It's not a big deal really I was just kinda surprised when I looked up mulverick on wowwiki and found that he makes fun of Horde players as well. More evidence of Blizzards bias towards alliance IMO.

Edit: Oh and BTW I defeated Ichman on my first try, partially due to the advice of the poster who said to use alt+z to hide the interface. Thanks for the tip.

A Parachute cloak is HIGHLY recommended for these quests, the engineering one is perfect since it only has 30 seconds cooldown, and will save your butt, but most likely your gold.

the only thing you need to do, is wear your cloak, and move the icon to a hotkey, take will help you react faster when you are falling, rather than clicking on the icon in your inventory.

after doing this quest a couple of times on different charcters, mine and frends who where stuck, i found the pleasure of doing it dlying upside down.
using the pich up and pich down and keyboard turning (FTL) i was able to nail it after 7-9 tries. will link the youtube as soon as the upload is finished.

I see that no one mentioned the 100+ yard vertical this guy takes after about the 3rd major corner (after the spire/hill full of crystals). Stay behind him and above is the best advice. Watch the fireballs if you're near an edge. Use alt+z to clear your field of view.

I have the riding crop, but I want the end item for it's awesome story/uniqueness/coolness.

Mind the meteors.

Easy way to complete these quests

1. un-equip all armor to avoid dmg and repair bills if you do die

2. hit alt z to hide your interface and zoom in so your in first person

3. straif and fly next to them on your epic mount even if they aim one at you you'll be flying so fast you'll never be hit and this is the first in the chain i believe that will actually aim a shot at you just keep him in sight and you should be fine :D

P.S.(the only reason i ever died doing this quest was b/c of lag spikes and then i couldn't find him and catching up to him i got hit)

THIS QUEST IS IN THE TOP 5 WORST QUESTS IN WARCRAFT HISTORY, I would rather beat my head against a brick wall than do this. This quest will make you want to throw a full pop can across your room along with your computer, you will want to punch your little brother or pet in the face and throw him. Save yourself the repair, anger, and everything else, you think your getting money by the whopping 20g for completion but really your not. This quest is worse then the "Are We There? Yeti" chain in Winterspring, It's worse than the entire land of Ferelas. Yes i said it! It's true DO NOT DO THIS QUEST CHAIN.
But if for some very odd reason your not human and you dont get angry and you love to repeat quests than go right ahead, i suggest hiding interface (alt+Z) zooming all the way out even though you still got a HUGE dragon covering your freakin screen, and you honestly can't dodge this guy he switches direction ALL the time, if you complete this on your first try than you are classified as the person I hate because they get quest items 100% of the time as I farm them for days with no luck.

You can fly a fair distance above this guy, and avoid most of his chaffe. The few times I failed this was just figuring out how far above I could stay. The method I've used on most of these races is what I call The Rollercoaster Technique (explained by another poster for one of the previous races) Basically you remain as high above the guy as you can get away with. Camera view above and slightly back (just my preference there) and holding both mouse buttons aimed so you are in a dive, then use the space bar to gain altutude to avoid his fireballs. Following above and slightly back to give you time to react to his many dips, dives, corkscrews and sudden changes of speed/direction just dive in his general direction then hit the space bar just as you see the fireball heading at you, if you're not too close you should have plenty time to react. He does change speed and altitude especially just after about mid point when he suddenly climbs in altitude after strafing the ground, becareful here as you may end up running up on him and not have time to react to his fireballs even then a couple quick right/left back to center mass moves should get ya thru. Stay high over the Flayers and keep the Rollercoaster action going to the finish. One final note: he does set off a burst or 2 of fire as or just after he lands. If he gets you there and you are dismounted but don't die, keep running towards the finish, you'll still get the complete.

Noggenfogger Elixir - the tiny buff makes this so much easier, I was small enough so I didn't have to lose my UI, so I could whack slow fall if I got knocked off.

After 4 attempts - the Noggenfogger run being the 4th - I did it..

Watch out for the ascent he does near the end, I lost him twice when he did that.

I finally beat the last one, I am on my second try with this guy and he knocks me off with invisable bombs... I was zoomed out (which made this one a bit easier) and I saw the bombs go the other way, and yet I went in flames and fell to my doom. Not cool.

Has a much longer despawn range than the previous guy, but you should still try to stay somewhat close to him. Just angle your flying mount down and press the space button whenever he fires. First try, got it easy.

Another piece of cake.

You can get VERY high above this guy without it failing you and at such height the bombs never come anywhere near you. The only danger is that he can do multiple stops (and if you are following close to him you will be past him and not know where the f he is) so stay quite far back too. He can also do a number of extreme vertical climbs, so keep your thumb on the space bar at all times. If you can do it at least on the 2nd go, then there is something seriously wrong with the way you fly/control mouse etc

I find this guy's "bombs" (fire in this case) is the easiest of them all to dodge, which is good considering he is the first of them that actually has a tricky path he follows - He is easy to lose track of compared to previous guys

Most awesome bug ever right now. Go to netherwing ledge. (you must have netherwing unlocked) mount up tap space bar to get into air. cast an instant spell that is non-combat ie PW:S Mark of the Wild, some paladin buff, etc.

Now you are swimming in air and no one can knock you down! i just did the last races and purposely ran into every single attack and still completed the quests without taking any dmg!

I hated this lot of quests but anyhow my biggest problem was following Wing Commander Ichman. He dipped and dived all over the place. What helped me was not only the comments on this quest but I cleared my screen with 'altz' which gave me a clear view of him. I stayed above him and slightly behind and dont worry if a couple of the fireballs hit you they will not dismount you.

I'm not sure if Blizzard nerfed these quests or not, but all of the dragonmaw race quests seemed much easier than the first time I did them prior to Cataclysm and patch 4.2. Perhaps my flying skills have improved...I'm sure it helps that I have done them before and knew what to expect. Has anyone one else completed these recently and noticed they were considerably easier? Not that I'm complaining! I highly recommend watching Youtube videos if this is your first time around. The ones that others have posted were very helpful.

If you are doing these quests at 85, the hardest part is staying with the flyer. At 85, we are flying faster then the quest originally intended if you did it 'on level'. The lightning he throws is even helpful as it's a knockback and helps you keep him in sight better.

You don't have to worry about taking any damage, on all the flight quests I took no damage, and you don't have to worry about aggro from the skybreakers or anything on the ground.

For all the flight quests, just keep above the flyer and most importantly, keep an eye on them!. You have to hang back flying wise on purpose so you don't over take them and lose them. Don't worry about strategy or anything else. Just worry about hanging back and keeping them in sight without losing them and you will complete this series with no problems.

I tried many of the tips, above, under, zig-zag, etc, but my method is, so-far, the easiest/best method:

Just fly slightly ahead of the flyer--you can predict the pathing quite a bit. Make sure to zoom out to the max, and just fly a teeny bit ahead of the guy; they hardly, if ever, bomb in front of them.

If you can afford it, 310% flying REALLY REALLY helps with this questline. On the off chance that you do get hit by one of the flyers, you can easily overtake them and get the lead back.

Also, if you have the ability, do this on a druid with Travel Form.

Smaller target = Easier to dodge the attacks.

So I am on this quest and I have flied the same path like 4-5 times, when he is going to land he just turns around and flies another lap, is this like a bug or is he going to do alooot more laps or what? This is really annoying because flying same laps like 5 times, I don't get the point

Anyone else find that this guy flies around an excessive amount? Juked me out at least 3 times because he went right to the 'tarmac' and then turned around.

As other people have said, it really helps to fly a little in front of them so they hit themselves with their own bombs. Problem is, that with this guy, he's the first guy in the series that is really a challenge to lead if you're doing this. He was the first one I couldn't breeze through.

It really helped me putting a marker on his head so that when he rockets up halfway through the course, spins around, plummets here and there, you can still follow him if you lose him for a second.

again as with previous races, he hit himself with lighting after a while (maybe almost at the end by the length of the race) awarded me complete and didn't even returned to base

I returned without him, and when I was turning quest he was leashed like a standard mob and returned to his spot in speed of 3000%

guess as this point I just do those quests for simple rep boost as they seems to be kinda broken
