At about half health they use a move called Evasion which increases their chance to dodge by 35%. This will accompany a message in the chat box that says

Quel'dorei Ghost shimmers and becomes intangible.

They also hit you with Ghostly Touch.

The Quel'dorei, also called the High Borne, were the greatest sorcerers and allies to the night elfs about 10,000 years ago when the Well of Eternity was discovered. Their queen Azshara, like them, were hungry for magic when they discovered the Well. To make a long story short, most were turned into the Naga when the well exploded.

adding on to yarthort and Brighid. the high elves were the highbourne AKA: night elves loyal to ashara. so it is understandable that early high elves look like night elves only paler.

They cannot cross running water...
In other words, they don't swim i.e. they don't come after you when you jump in to the river

THEY CANT SWIM! so if your a druid just use that push spell it will make them drown!

Exactly how many NPCs still use the old blood elf model? I know about these, the ones in scholo and the ones in blasted lands...but are there any others?

Yep. And like I said before, theres still a few around the world that use this model.

It seems a little weird being able to use control undead on these.

Even when the explanation that they are ghosts of a very early generation of high elves, thus much more similar physically to kaldorei highborne, is a good one; I am not sure why such old spirits would appear there.

I had thought that the ghosts were from fallen elves during Arthas invasion; as such, they should use the newer models.
