So this is pretty much MOP/WOD legendary questline on steroids...with a slight twist: You don't even get a legendary at the end!
This has so far been the most unrewarding and time gated questline I have ever done. For a simple artifact appearance?
Really disappointed...

So far, I've gotten 12 in just today. Out of the six bosses, three of them dropped a bundle of 3 shards. All of this was on normal.

why do people want a player power reward at the end of this? that would turn this into something that's almost mandatory to finish like the ring from warlords or the cloak from mists. Keeping it cosmetic means I can finish this whenever I want , and if others in the raid haven't done it yet then its okay. Look how people reacted when we thought legendary upgrades were tied to the Illidan storyline.

I like that this quest isn't "mandatory," but some consistency on drop rates would be great. One person in our raid has 14 stones after a full clear, another has 1. It could take 2-3 months to finish this quest with bad RNG, meanwhile someone else could be done in 2 weeks.

Hello guys today i cleared Normal Nighthold and i got 18shards it is actually luck dependant :) so. sry for my english if i misspell. I want to ask people to post in here if they do finish this quest to tell us do we ge the apperance for the legendary weapons finally from Balance of Power or is there more steps to it... Looks like this will take 2-3 weeks to complete if all bosses in Nighthold are killed each week. My raid ranged from 8-14 doing a full normal clear. Considering how long some of the previous "essence" type quests took, that is not bad at all.

Bosses can drop 0, 1 or 3 via Immaculate Nightshard Curio

Loot is locked per boss so you cannot acquire more by doing multiple difficulties per week.

I'm up to 14 as well, and I'm 10/10 normal, I've done two bosses on heroic and have gotten no Nightshards from them, so I am worried that you may only be able to loot them from only one difficulty per week. I am going to try and knock out a few more heroic bosses so I will update if I get any more. Best of luck!

**Edit** Downed two more on Heroic and not a single drop, so I am leaning heavily on the theory that these are only obtainable ONCE from each boss per week. I really hope that I am just having terrible luck and not getting any to drop, has anyone else gotten any off bosses they have already killed on a different difficulty?

Introduction
This quest is part of a comment-size guide for "Balance of Power." questline. Quests are pretty much self-explanatory and all it takes is some time and good will to complete them. Completing this questline rewards Artifact Appearance (Appearance 3, Tint 1).

Part 1
Image of Kalec appears in your Order Hall and gives you the following quest:
The Power Within (Meet Archmage Kalec at Azurewing Repose in Azsuna.)
Reasons behind appearance of Archmage Kalec in your Class Order Hall are not yet completely understood but most people noticed him few days after they completed their Class Campaign.

Part 2
From there you take a next quest from Senegos:
The Heart of Zin-Azshari (Retrieve the Heart of Zin-Azshari and defeat the Wrath of Azshara in the Eye of Azshara on Mythic difficulty.)

Part 3
After completing the previous quests you receive a few new quests (exactly 3: two from Senegos and one from Archmage Kalec).
Senegos:
A Vainglorious Past (Obtain a Vainglorious Draught from Veridis Fallon.)
- You can purchase Vainglorious Draught from Veridis Fallon in Crumbled Palace in Azsuna for 150g (Requirement: Court of Farondis - Honored).

Fallen Power (Recover a Corrupted Essence from Oakheart and defeat the Shade of Xavius in Darkheart Thicket on Mythic difficulty.)

Archmage Kalec:
Tempering Darkness (Obtain 30 Blood of Sargeras.)
Should not be a problem since by the time you get that quest and if you did not spend any Blood of Sargeras you should have some stacked up simply by completing Dungeons and World Quests.

Part 4
Archmage Kalec:
Lucid Strength (Absorb the power from the Corrupted Essence using the Heart of Zin-Azshari.)
Right next to you.

Part 5
Senegos:
The Wisdom of Patience (Await the opening of The Emerald Nightmare, then report back to Senegos in Azsuna.)

Part 6
Archmage Kalec:
In Nightmares (Obtain a Deathglare Iris and the Horn of the Nightmare Lord from The Emerald Nightmare.) NOTE: NOT doable with LFR. It has to be Normal difficulty or higher. In order to complete this quest you need to kill 2 bosses: Il'gynoth and Xavius and loot mentioned quest items.

Senegos:
Essence of Power (Collect 30 Corrupted Essence from The Emerald Nightmare.) This quest gave me a weird WoD and Khadgar flashback. NOT doable with LFR. Only Normal or higher difficulty. Essences ~~do not~~ have a 100% drop rate and bosses can drop 1-2 3 Corrupted Essences at the time.

Part 7
Senegos:
Essential Consumption (Absorb the combined power of the Corrupted Essences using the Heart of Zin-Azshari.)
Right next to you.

Part 8
Archmage Kalec:
Repaid Debt (Meet Archmage Kalec in the Shal'Aran in Suramar.)

Part 9
Thalrenus Rivertree:
Lost Knowledge (Obtain the Scroll of Elun'dris from First Arcanist Thalyssra.)
- Costs 120g. Requirement: The Nightfallen - Revered).

Part 10
Thalrenus Rivertree:
Borrowing Without Asking (Recover a Containment Crystal from the Vault of the Wardens on Mythic difficulty.)

Syrana Starweaver:
Rite of the Captain (Take Advisor Vandros' Eon Winder from The Arcway on Mythic difficulty.)

Lothrius Mooncaller:
Literary Perfection (Find Lothrius' first edition copy of "Wards, Sigils, and the Nightborne Way" in the Court of Stars on Mythic difficulty.)

Part 11
Syrana Starweaver:
Twisted Power (Use a Greater Portal Stone to summon Vizuul the Twisted at the Altar of End Times in Faronaar and collect his runebindings.)

Part 12
Syrana Starweaver:
A True Test (Absorb the power from the Twisted Runebindings using the Heart of Zin-Azshari.)

Part 13
Archmage Kalec:
Seeking the Valkyra (Seek out Ashildir at the Vault of Eyir in Stormheim.)

The Mark (Prove your worth to the Valarjar, then receive the Mark of the Valkyra from Eyir.)

Ashildir:
Retrieving the Svalnguard (Retrieve the Svalnguard and defeat Helya in the Maw of Souls on Mythic difficulty.)

Part 16
Ashildir:
A Feast Fit for Odyn (Acquire flank meat from Thunderhoof in Stormheim, Spinesever's spine in Highmountain, and a steak from Leytusk in Azsuna.)

Presentation is Key (Retrieve 4 Adamantium Casing Scraps and defeat Dargrul the Underking in Neltharion's Lair on Mythic difficulty.)

Part 17
Ashildir:
Odyn's Blessing (Obtain Odyn's blessing in the Halls of Valor on ~~Heroic or~~ Mythic difficulty.)
- Use Grand Feast of Valhallas when you enter the dungeon - at the start. You can enter the dungeon alone, put the feast down, get out and then get a group to defeat Odyn and get his blessing. After you defeat him wait for him to finish his speech (RP) and then you can collect his blessing on the loot chest.

Part 18
Archmage Kalec:
Planning the Assault (Await the opening of the Nighthold, then meet Archmage Kalec in Shal'Aran.)

Part 19
Archmage Kalec:
Into the Nighthold (Collect 20 Nightshards from the Nighthold on Normal difficulty or higher.)
- Try and complete this quest without killing Gul'dan because if you kill him before acquiring The Nighthold: Darkness Calls quest in Part 20 he won't drop quest item for you this week and you'll need to wait for a next reset to complete The Nighthold: Darkness Calls quest in Part 20.

Thalrenus Rivertree:
The Nighthold: Delusions of Grandeur (Collect the core of Trilliax and Grand Magistrix Elisande's Millennia Tome in the Nighthold on Normal difficulty or higher.)

Part 20
Archmage Kalec:
The Nighthold: Darkness Calls (Bring one Gul'dan's eyes to Archmage Kalec on Normal difficulty or higher.)

Part 21
Archmage Kalec:
Balance of Power (Absorb the combined power of the Nightshards and the Eye of Gul'dan using the Heart of Zin-Azshari at the Lunar Crucible.)

I tried farming the items on heroic and got 13 shards the first time (7/10), got 0 so far on normal after it. So I think the items are shared over the difficulty.

You can only loot those once per boss per week.
So let's say you have completed NH on normal and tries on heroic after, then you will have to wait to the weekly reset to obtain them.

EDIT: It seems like the amount you get from each boss is random from 0 to 5. Higher difficulty doesn't seem to affect the drop rate.

Haven't seen this posted above anywhere but the timing of when you pickup this quest seems to matter.

Done this on 2 alts now where I had cleared heroic nighthold on Thursday and picked up the quest on Saturday, proceeded to run normal nighthold but seems I had already used up my chance of getting nightshards for the week despite not having had the quest on the Thursday.

While it could just be really bad luck I doubt out of 20 possible chances that I would not have received a single night shard.

Would recommend if you are doing this on your alts that you not go into nighthold in a week prior to picking up the quest.

I have obtained 10/20 shards in a 9/10 run, can anyone confirm if I will lose this progress if I faction change? Any info would be great.

If you pick up the quest AFTER you already cleared it on one difficulty, you cannot loot any Nightshards clearing it on a different difficulty. I cleared Heroic on a Thursday, then did the quest up to this part on a Sunday and pugged a Normal. I got 0 shards. As the wowhead comments seemed to indicate the drop rate was a lot higher than...well 0%, I contacted a GM which basically verified that it's not 100% drop rate and that you can't loot them if you picked up a quest after already clearing it on a different difficulty:

I see there was some trouble obtaining the Nightshards for the quest Into The Nighthold which is part of the Balance of Power questline. As I am currently on this quest myself I know how irritating it can become since it does require a lot of hard work. Luckily in this case we can provide some information.

While the comments on WoWhead may say the Nighthshards are guaranteed this is not the case. Must like the Corrupted Essence from the quest Essence of Power there is a chance for the Nightshards to drop none, one, or a Immaculate Nightshard Curio. These can only be looted once per boss during the first kill of the week. Trying to complete this by running Nighthold on another difficulty will not count.

One of the last few quests in the chain Improving on History.. and pretty much the biggest roadblock in terms of time (if u already have the rep)..
The quest requires you to collect 20 Nightshard from Nighthold bosses.
Just a few pointers:

You can only get Nightshards ONCE from each boss on ANY difficulty (unlike Corrupted Essence from EN).. so can't just run normal, heroic (& mythic for the big guns) & finish in a single week. Will take at least two weeks.

Doesn't drop in LFR.

If you've already cleared the raid once this week on Normal BEFORE picking up the quest.. no shards will drop for you this week even on a different difficulty.

Not a guaranteed drop.. some bosses won't drop any Nightshards.. but rarely you can get an Immaculate Nightshard Curio which gives extra Nightshards (I got 1 curio in two runs and it contained 3 shards, but some have reported getting only 1 shard from it). You can get both this and a Nightshard separately from the same boss.

If you manage to collect 20, make sure to quickly hearth out, submit the quest in Shal'aran and pick up the next quest (Darkness Calls) BEFORE killing Gul'dan.. otherwise you'll have to wait another week. Hopefully your group will be nice enough to summon u back.. which they should because plenty of people speed running normal NH for this quest.

There are several tertiary requirements that you'll need to meet to be able to progress along the Balance of Power quest chain at various points. You can and should work towards completing these as soon as possible if you want to complete the quest chain quickly. If you wait to pursue these objectives until you're forced to by a quest, you'll increase your total time required to complete this chain significantly, as, especially in the case of Reputations, progression is time gated.
In the order they become relevant, they are:

Complete your Order Hall Campaign through A Glorious Campaign, Forged for Battle, and Roster of Champions. This is required for Kalec to appear in your Order Hall and offer The Power Within. It usually takes him 1-3 days after you've done this to appear.
Complete the "Behind Legion Lines" quest objective of Azsuna Matata, beginning with Into the Fray and ending with Dark Revelations to unlock and then complete the "Defending Azurewing Repose" quest objective of Azsuna Matata, beginning with Journey to the Repose and ending with Hunger's End in Azsuna. This is required before you can turn in The Power Within to begin the Balance of Power chain in earnest.
Earn Honored Reputation with the Court of Farondis. This is required to purchase the Vainglorious Draught from Veridis Fallon for A Vainglorious Past. This is the last tertiary objective you'll need to have done before you can begin Emerald Nightmare for your 30 Corrupted Essence for The Emerald Nightmare: Essence of Power. which will take you at least two raids to do unless you are extremely lucky.
Complete the "Nightfall" quest objective of Nightfallen But Not Forgotten, beginning with Khadgar's Discovery and ending with Arcane Thirst, then complete Shal'Aran to unlock and then complete the "Moon Guard Stronghold" quest objective of Good Suramaritan, beginning with Not Their Last Stand and Fate of the Guard, and ending with Last Stand of the Moon Guard in Suramar. This is required before you can complete Repaid Debt and progress the Suramar portion of the quest chain.
Earn Revered Reputation with The Nightfallen. This is required to purchase the Scroll of Elun'dris from First Arcanist Thalyssra for Lost Knowledge which you'll need to do as soon as you begin the Suramar portion of the quest chain.
Earn Revered Reputation with the Valarjar to prove your worth to Eyir and receive the Mark of the Valkyra for The Mark in Stormheim. This is the last tertiary objective you'll need to complete, and is required before you can progress the Stormheim portion of the quest chain.

Lastly, while not a requirement, it is recommended that if you manage to collect all of the Nightshard for The Nighthold: Into the Nighthold before you kill Gul'dan, that you return to Shal'Aran as soon as you have them and The Nighthold: Delusions of Grandeur completed, because you will not be able to loot the Eye of Gul'dan during the same week for the next and final quest, The Nighthold: Darkness Calls, if you have already killed him.

Edit: As of Patch 8.0.1, The Nighthold: Darkness Calls appears to be available alongside The Nighthold: Into the Nighthold and The Nighthold: Delusions of Grandeur instead of being made available after them.

Hello all,

Here is a bit more information from my time in Normal Nighthold today:

-You can loot nightshards from every boss on any difficulty; however, you cannot get loot from the same boss on different difficulties in the same week.
-If you do normal, it takes about an hour to an hour and a half if in a group with a minimum ilvl of 920 (most of this time was from getting lost).
-The drop rate appears to have been increased as I got 19/20 this week. I also got at least one from every boss.

After running 10 characters through Nightholds, collecting data from 9, here are my results:
143 bosses killed that could reward nightshard (as in before I reached the 20)
29x I got 0 nightshards
84x I got 1 nightshard
30x I got 3 nightshards ( Immaculate Nightshard Curio needs to be opened (duuh) )
This comes to an average of 1.22 shards per boss.
It's just over 20% chance to recieve 0 and to recieve 3 shards with 1 being the most common with just under 60%.
All the runs were either normal or heroic with no noticeable difference in dropchance.

As of 8.0, no need to teleport out to get the next quest, since the next quest IS Balance of Power.

This is the last quest where you need to gather anything.

I Did nightold mythic After 3 weeks of grindIng rep etc for the quest. And only got 7 shards so i dont know if the shard Chance was only buffed in normal cause on mythic it is not. And now i have to Wait another week. -.-

This quest will have taken me 3 weeks total. Bosses are dropping either no shards at all or only one. They need to buff the drop rate for this old content.

I got 5 shards in week 1 and then 15 in week 2 so I could complete this in 2 Nighthold runs. Week 2 included 2 curios dropping each containing 3 shards.

Seems to be complete luck on how many shards you will get, but will take approx. 2-3 weeks.

Must have changed something because this is my 5th toon doing the quest.
Before 8.2 on first run and each one i usually got 7-8 shards , today after 8.2 landed i got in my first run 17 shards!
I beleive its not a coincidence :)

March 2020 (v8.3) I soloed Normal Nighthold and got 11 shards. I cleared Heroic and Mythic immediately after and got 0.

Now that the Guldan quest is given at the same time as the shards quest, it's less hassle to get done. I was getting worried at the halfway mark because I had less than 10 shards, but then noticed the curios. I ended up with 21 after Elisande (this was last week). Only annoyed that I have to do this on every character... this really needs to become account-wide.

I've had to run this raid 3 times now because the first time I got 10 shards, second run I only got 4, and the third run I only got 5. This has to be one of the most infuriating quests in legion content wow because I can fully say that I am just at my limit with it.

I did a heroic run today.
12 of them dropped, the single ones drop as single items, the multiple ones drop in a sort of pouch.
When you open them you get 2-5 of them.

Gul'dan didn't drop any. Hopefully I can finish this next week as I'm 12/20.

The Demon Within (the mythic only end boss) counts as a different boss to Gul'dan.
So if you clear the entire raid on normal or hc, then come back on mythic, you can get an extra nightshard.

The Nighthold: Darkness Calls has as pre-requisite not anymore this quests. You can collect the quest before AND get the eye of guldan before you have all shards.

My experience:
first week - I got 8 shards (on mythic without killing guldan and a run on normal. On normal I don't get any additional shards.
second week -- I got 12 shards (also two bags with 3 shards)

A four year old expansion and Blizzard still treats this quest likes it’s current. Ran heroic Nighthold and only got 10 shards. Ran normal and came out with zero. Ran half of mythic and stopped when I didn’t receive any. Apparently you can only get shards from the bosses once regardless of difficulty. Really dumb if you ask me. All it takes a few lines of coding to increase the drop rate. I don’t know why they don’t change it. Now I got to wait another week to get my neon bear skin if I get enough. If not then two weeks.

Registered to give my two cents. Today I entered Normal Nighthold and got 19 out of 20 Nightshards from the first 9 bosses. Gul'dan did not drop a single Nightshard during this run. Frustrated being one off, I looked through the comments here and someone mentioned that Mythic Gul'dan is considered a different case and will drop one if you haven't killed Gul'dan on Mythic difficulty this week. Lo and behold after a few wipes (although this is a Legion raid you still need to follow some mechanics to kill some of the bosses), Gul'dan on Mythic dropped the final Nightshard. I was able to complete this in one day.

For the love of God, Blizzard, fix this quest. It's my third time doing it, already did for mages and priests. Can't imagine what it was like for people who completed BoP on every class. Why can't every boss drop at least 1 nightshard? There are 10 bosses, so even if you would be unlucky with Immaculate Nightshard Curious you could maybe complete this in 2 weeks. This sucks. BoP appearances are unlocked with a questline, they are not some random drops from bosses in raids, so having elements of RNG in this is very dumb.

Took me 3 runs to get this.

Did 1 on normal got 12 shards
Did another normal run after reset and got 6 shards (19 shards)
Did 1 run on mythic for the mythic only boss and got a shard from him too.

This quest is such a time waster these days. I got 12 shards the first week with two 3 shard clusters dropping, so I figured I should be able to finish it the next week. I was wrong and only managed to get 6 shards with zero 3 shard clusters and four bosses not dropping any shards at all. Now I have to wait an entire week just to get the last 2 shards I need to finally finish this damn questline and unlock the artifact appearance. 18 shards is honestly the worst amount to have at the end of a reset, because if you have 19 then you can at least switch over to Mythic and get the last shard guaranteed from Gul'dan. With 18 you're just screwed.

Blizzard, please go back and nerf these drops. There's literally no reason for these quests to still be timegated 2 expansions later. It's just wasting our time.

Don't waste your time like me. If you already did a run on a difficult to get the shards, don't try to change the difficulty of it to try to get it more, it doesn't matter. Once you get shards from one you can't get it more until next week.

All that I have to say after doing this quest line on 3 different characters is that this quest sucks the most out of the whole line. It's not even CLOSE to a 100% drop chance. Out of the entire 10 boss raid, I got 4 the first week. I got 5 the second week, 4 the week after, 4 the week after that, and my final 3 on the 5th week run. This was on my DH and it's been so long since I did it on the other characters that I don't even remember how long it took me on them.
This just flat out sucks. The Emerald Dream one isn't THIS terrible.

Took me two days. Went and cleared Nighthold on nomal mode on tuesday, got 13 shards. Next day, wednesday (reset day in EU), got the rest even leaving some bosses alive.

I want to know where all my shards are, all the comments showing maths and average drop rates... I got clear Nighthold from fresh and only get TWO. If it continues at this rate I'm going to have to spend 10 weeks clearing this place.

Check your bags for immaculate nightshard curios which drop from bosses. Open them to get more nightshards. I received three on my mythic run and got 3 nightshards each.

This is painful. The biggest advice I can give is to do normal first, then do mythic to get additional shard from the last boss, might be saving you a week in the end.

Week 1 - 7 shards (mythic)
Week 2 - 7 shards (normal) + 1 (mythic last boss) + Fiendish Hellfire Core
Week 3 - 4 shards (normal) + 1 (mythic last boss)

Mount drop really made me feel better, but blizzard really needs to sort this out, 3 - 4 weeks just for this is crazy. Thank god I had the last one drop from mythic last boss.

Still timegated as of 9.2 It will take me at least another week to get this quest done. Balance of Power questline has had so many timegate stops like this its making me nauseous. What value does this add to the game? I just want a new bear form and its taken me nearly a month to get it.

9/20 in one week... and I have a bet next week will be 19/20 or lower. Blizzard what's the point of this sckfest? On a good term it takes a month to complete or 2 if not more if you are unlucky. Make it account wide finally! I really love the skins for transmog but this is my 2nd time doing it and would love to do it on all class but this would be still a full time job for like 3-4 months or a YEAR at the lowest to complete if you ain't doing anything else. This is pathetic.

A lot of hate in these comments about having to do multiple runs of raids for completing Balance of Power, how it's old content and shouldn't be time gated, and should be made easier and blah blah blah.

What about the people who completed the achievement back when it was actually hard, when legion was current, and they couldn't just run through everything solo. Is it fair to them to now hand it out on a silver platter to everyone?

Why does everything in the game need to be nerfed to suit people who don't even want to play it - who want to just rush through everything easily and cry when something is too hard.

Yeh, I get it, a neon bear is very cool, but that doesn't mean it should be easy for you to get when everyone else had to wait and work hard for it. It's not like you can't pick other achievements to go for in the mean time (and come to WoWhead to cry about them also).

After 2 weeks I thought I was gonna end with 19/20, but I ended with 18/20. Gul'dan didn't drop anything for me and I thought Mythic was a guaranteed, I guess it's not. Really frustrating, 3 resets for that neon bear. Already did this questline on my shaman back in legion, just make it account-wide already! :(

Not a -single- curio on my mythic run. 9/20 on first week, 17/20 on second. Literally going to take three weeks to do a quest that lost its relevance three expansions ago.

Absolutely maidenless quest design, and the whole Balance of Power still not being account wide is not even bad comedy, it's vindictive and continued evidence the devs really do just enjoy watching their playerbase get frustrated.

Currently on this questline Balance of Power for my paladin, if you have done the Shadowmourne questline, this is much much faster collection of shards. My first run was 13/20, not too bad considering it took me 12 weeks to complete the 50 shards from ICC on the Shadowmourne quest.

Drop rate is awful so be prepared (and hope you are one of the lucky ones). 1st toon this week got 6 shards/no curios, all from Mythic. 2nd toon got 4 shards and 1 curio, which gave 3 more so she ended up with a total of 7 for the Mythic run. There are 10 bosses, so neither toon got even 1/boss.

WARNING: If you do LFR even though you cannot receive drops from LFR you WILL NOT be able to loot the drops from any of the bosses in any other difficulty that week!

from my POV, do this on normal...it makes it quicker and the drop rates from what I have observed do not change for the better the harder the difficulty is.

Not so many comments about this, but if you kill mythic Guldan the same week after your cleared Normal or Heroic, you can get another chance to get additional nightshards. I just cleared all heroic, then killed Guldan on mythic and received one extra nightshard. But yeah Blizz, please fix this and make the achievement account wide or at least increase the drop rate, it's old content jesus christ.

Just did NH HC, got 10 shards, then swapped to mythic and killed guldan and got another shard (so 11 total). Seems like Guldan mythic has a separate chance to drop shards

From running Night Hold (Mythic) I've learned a couple of things.

Not all bosses will drop .
Most bosses will drop .
Some bosses will drop giving you x3

After my run I managed to loot 3x and 5x , which in total gave me 14x from the first week.

Either I've been incredibly lucky, or as of 19/3/2023, they've improved the droprate of the Nightshards. Did a run on Normal and it seems every boss is guaranteed to at least drop 1 Nightshard. If you're even more lucky you'd get the Immaculate Nightshard Curio. Anyone else can verify?

I have a question related to this quest. I did the raid this week already, got 17/20 nightshards. I want to change faction and if im not mistaken the quests and q items will be dropped from my q log and inventory when i change. Will i be able to do the nighthold run again and get some shards again (since it technically will be my first run of the week with that race/faction characeter)?

I did all of Normal and got 17. Did the first 6 bosses of Mythic and got nothing. Seems like you can only do it once per week, regardless of difficulty.

Unfortunately, like the quest that required corrupted essence from the Emerald Nightmare, you can only get the quest items off a boss once per week, regardless of difficulty level.

Welp, i assume the lockout for nightshards is made even if u didn't have a quest for it. I cleared Mythic Nighthold same week before i picked up quest for fragments, then i got quest and ran normal, got 0 shards from entire run, meh.

Lucked out and did this in two weeks, first week was bonk, 8 shards, second I got 12 with 3 curios and 3 shards.

Also, confirming that doing it on another difficulty in the same week will still not drop nightshards, I tried heroic after a mythic run on week 1 because I'm farming the green infernal mount and not a single one dropped on any boss :S g

Just a note for anybody doing this now. You can't run the raid on multiple difficulties for more drops. However, each boss does drop one. so if you do a run and a boss or two doesn't drop one, do it on another difficulty for a chance at the missed drop.

It took me a total of two weeks to complete this. First week I got 8 shards, second week I got 11 shards (19 total in 2 weeks). Initially, I was frustasted thinking it would take another week (3 in total) but to my surprise, I attempted the raid on mythic difficulty and none boss but Gul'dan dropped a shard despite having completed it on normal difficulty the same week, so if you are unlucky like me and finish 19/20 after running on normal-heroic you can run it on mythic and kill Gul'dan for that chance of getting another shard.

I am stuck on the quest since the 5th of august...
Got 14 in july but when I tryed to get the last ones in august, nothing... I tried on Normal, Hero, Mythic, nothing works... Tried every week since but still nothing.
I give up the quest and took it again, did nothing. I destroyed the 14 idem thinking it could change something but no.
Does anyone got the same issue ?

As of today, October 1, 2024 I received:

Week 1:

Normal - 0
Heroic - 6 ((had one of these in my bag after the run - immaculate nightshard curio)
Mythic - 6 (had one of these in my bag after the run - immaculate nightshard curio)

Also, I was able to complete all the versions of this raid as a level 70 Druid Guardian spec, but I stayed in cat form the whole time. Ilvl is roughly 440. Good luck!

Week 2:

Started on Heroic and got the last 8 shards by the 4th boss! Hopefully others have better luck!

Can confirm that you get an extra chance of drop if you kill mythic Gul'dan after you clear normal/heroic. I got 1 nightshard drop.

seems to be random. I did mythic the first week and got 10 (my friend got 12), i think we both got 2 curios. I just finished normal and only got 8 without a single curio. Idk if difficulty does affect drops or i just got unlucky in this normal run.

On the final stretch for Balance of Power. Ran Nighthold on Mythic today. Got 12/20 Nightshards. Hopefully one more run will do it but I'll have to wait another week to find out.
