This part was tricky and annoying. If one of the skulls hit you, you have to go back and drink the elixir from the Calderon again. I could not see very far, visibility was horrible, despite of all my video settings being in high. I had to go slow to be able to see and avoid the skulls. It took me a few attempts. If there are several people doing the quest, you have to wait a little bit to get the elixir from the Calderon again, because it has a cool-down. First-come, first-served (FCFS) . At the end you complete The Silent Skull: Taking from the Taker, which is part of Master Relic Hunter which is part of Don't Call Me Junior which gives you Harrison Jones .

As per the other comment, just watch for big cylindrical tubes through the smoke/fog. That is where the skulls are and you can avoid them pretty easily. Then just make your way to the quest marker.
Kind of like the rare daily on Timeless isle, don't get inside their zones.

Also, if you land up top and Skulltaker won't come down. Walk back to the edge, don't fall off and then make your way back into the middle, he will then jump down.

Head out of the cave after drinking and head east. Avoid the Laughing Skulls which are surrounded by black swirly pillars.

You are headed for the quest marker at 62.01, 31.88 to find a large named Ravager, Gu'rakh who will fly you to Skulltaker.

I goofed and missed drinking the elixir somehow and then it wasn't available. If you abandon, just go back to Harrison and he will put you back to the right step in the quest.

Despite what others are saying I had no problem with this part. What hasn't been mentioned is that after you drink from the cauldron you will see a small ravager standing in the cave entrance, go talk to it and it will lead you to the destination, it even drops a glowing trail for you to follow if you loose sight of it. I did aggro 2 of the skulls but I didn't slow down and neither of them caught me before getting to the destination which isn't all that far.

The fact that this isn't phased is maddening. There's a good 200 people here trying to drink the elixir, but only one person can do it at a time and it puts the cauldron on a good 10 second cooldown for everybody.

I found if you zoom all the way in and basically make it first person, you can navigate the fog very easily.

For warriors:

When you exit cave use heroic leap up to your left. Follow the mountain side until you get closer to the objective, then jump down. If you take a straight line there will be a few more skulls, so go around to the left to get to the objective point. Failed about 5 times trying to do this the proper way, only one try this way. Heroic leap FTW.

Info on the full "Taking from the Taker" quest chain, one of the six quest chain criteria for the Master Relic Hunter (Alliance)/ Master Relic Hunter (Horde) achievement needed to get the Harrison Jones follower with Extreme Scavenger and unique Mentor traits. This chain takes place in Gorgrond, the northernmost Draenor zone.

Bug Notes:

If you collected an item that should complete a quest, but the quest isn't shown as completed, log off and back on (just reloading won't work), click the quest in your quest log, and see if you can click "complete quest".
Leave at least one spot free in your quest log (i.e. 24 of 25), or a quest may become uncompletable going from one quest to the next.
You can not do these quests in a raid group; doing some steps in a raid group can make a quest uncompletable.
If a quest becomes uncompletable, you can return to your garrison, delete the quest, and re-accept the quest on that step of the quest chain from the book of Relic Hunting Notes on the ground next to Harrison Jones. All but the initial quest are also shareable from party members, if you are on the same step of the quest chain.

1. Treasure Contract: The Infected Orc:

Fly to Everbloom Wilds flightpoint ( in Gorgrond) or Everbloom Overlook flightpoint ( in Gorgrond) — you can choose between these separate areas to find mobs for this quest. Everbloom Overlook usually has more mobs and fewer competing players.
Kill Enthralled Mutant (98k health) and Twisted Guardian (195k health) until they drop Grinning Tolg's Journal. They're sparse, respawn slowly, and the journal's drop rate might be 15% or so, so this can take a couple minutes to a couple hours. Killing other area humanoids may hasten their respawn. In Everbloom Wilds, the orcs spawn around , , , , , ; in Everbloom Overlook they are in between the east and west mountain ranges south/southeast of the flightpoint.
Once you get the journal, click the "Click to complete quest" pop-up.
BUG NOTE: If you kill 10-20 infected orcs without getting the journal, and double-checked you're not in a raid, log off and back on, and kill more; it may have been bad luck, but this no-drop bug occurs on other Jones quests.
Bag Space Tip: After you get credit for completing this quest, you can safely delete Grinning Tolg's Journal from your inventory. It's just for interesting reading. Each Harrison Jones quest chain leaves a similar soulbound book in your inventory (click for list).

2. The Silent Skull: The First Reagent: , north of Everbloom Wilds flightpoint, under a primitive rock-covered shelter. Click the purple Shadethistle plant, then click the "Click to complete quest" pop-up. If you're not using coordinates, the shelter is a bit north of a large animal's skeletal remains, northwest of some burning trees and grass. The shelter may obscure the plant a bit depending on your camera angle.

3. The Silent Skull: The Second Reagent: , in the eye socket of the skull of a large animal's skeletal remains. Click the Bonethorn, then click the "Click to complete quest" pop-up.

4. The Silent Skull: The Third Reagent: , click the Steamcap Mushrooms, then click the "Click to complete quest" pop-up. It's in an inactive steam vent with some trees growing in it, which looks like a medium-sized dark crater on the minimap with some orange in the center.

5. The Silent Skull: Taking from the Taker:

5(a), "Brew the Laughing Skull Elixir": From the last quest, head east a few feet, then north along the path to a cave entrance at . Inside the cave to the right you'll see a Cauldron (). Click the cauldron to complete the first of the quest criteria.

5(b), "Drink the elixir and find a way to reach Skulltaker": Click the cauldron again to get a 5 minute Erratic Visions buff; if someone else clicked it recently, you have to wait for a cooldown to wear off, and in a crowd you should spam-click the cauldron until you succeed. (You don't get an elixir item in your bag; you just click the cauldron to drink it). Next find a Brightscale Ravager by the cave entrance, and talk to him ("Can you take me to Skulltaker") — or skip this if you know the way. If someone else talked to him recently, wait until he respawns. Follow behind the ravager southeast, east, then north to while avoiding floating/moving skulls. When you get to , a large hovering ravager, Gu'rakh, will offer to take you to Skulltaker. Click Gu'rakh to complete this step of the quest, and he or she will fly you to Skulltaker.

This step can be challenging. Poor visibility when you have the buff makes avoiding the skulls difficult, and when a skull touches you, you'll lose the buff and need to go back to the cave and click the cauldron again (waiting again if it's not immediately clickable). Some tips:

#1 BEST TIP: Type "/console ffxGlow 0" to reduce the fog a lot, then after you complete this step, type "/console ffxGlow 1" to return to your normal graphics setting. (Thanks Aquifel!)
Stealth abilities (rogue Stealth, druid Prowl, mage Greater Invisibility, hunter glyphed Camouflage) significantly help avoid aggroing skulls. Draenic Invisibility Potion helps too someone said you wouldn't see the Brightscale Ravager.
Alternatively, mounting up just outside the cave lets you move faster, which is an advantage avoiding skulls, or outrunning aggroed skulls.
If you still have trouble seeing the skulls, use first person view, or lower your camera angle and zoom in so you're looking at things from close to the ground, so less fog blocks your vision. Also note that skulls produce a vertical column/pillar of darkness above and below them, which can help spotting them and judging their position.
If you're having trouble seeing where to go, practice the route without the buff; from the cave entrance at , follow the path southeast to , east to , then north to . Putting a target marker on the Brightscale Ravager before talking to it might help, and it leaves a glowing trail, but that disappears fairly quickly, and if he gets ahead of you the marker and trail don't help. You're better off knowing the way, and taking your time to avoid skulls.
Using Aviana's Feather cancels the buff so doesn't help, but if you're in a party only one person needs to reach Gu'rakh with the buff for everyone to get credit for this step, and the others can use Aviana's Feather to glide into Skulltaker's crater to kill Skulltaker (Gu'rakh will only fly one party member).

5(c), "Claim the Silent Skull": When you talk to Gu'rakh, he or she will drop you in Skulltaker's Crater (), where Skulltaker (489k health) is standing atop a large skull. Walk toward Skulltaker, he'll jump down to the center of the crater, where you can kill him and loot The Silent Skull to complete this quest. If he doesn't jump, try backing up and reapproaching.

Double-check that the quest is ready for turn-in, then hearth to your garrison to turn it in to Bodrick Grey (Alliance) or Rokhan (Horde).

Here is the best way I found to complete this step: Click the elixir and click on one of the bugs outside of the cave. The bug will put a glowing trail on the ground for you to follow. It's path is mostly safe from the skulls. If you take any kind of damage whatsoever, you will lose the buff and have to go drink the elixir again. No need to worry about tomtom waypoints this way.

For those with Avianna's Feather Aviana's Feather from the Inn quests, you can party with everyone else trying to do the middle part of the quest....as soon as any of them reaches the big bug, you'll get credit. Then go next to where Skulltaker is and use the feather to fly into the crater. Skulltaker isn't phased so just kill him like normal.

You can avoid the skulls a lot more easily if you mount up and keep moving between them - even if you end up in combat with one, they won't be fast enough to catch you.

Zoom in! If you're camera is zoomed all the way out like mine usually is, you won't be able to see the skulls until you nearly run into them. Zoom in just above your character and it will increase how far in front of you you can see.

This should be an interesting quest line. Basically a crazier than most Laughing Skull wears a cursed skull (be nice to know more about that). He somehow gets so he can talk to the ravagers using a potion (be nice to know more about that too).

Too bad blizzard so badly designed the questline that you just want it to be over instead of enjoy it.

Tip: If you're using premade groups to check out some low pop servers for the The Silent Skull: Taking from the Taker, make sure to not leave the group while you have the buff on you. Transporting back to your own server will remove the buff and you'll have to start over. Also, it bugs out(hah) and you won't be able to see people inside the cave anymore unless you relog.

Horrible glow getting you down? Type this:

/console ffxGlow 1

It won't get rid of all of the graphical annoyances of this quest but, it makes it very doable. Don't forget to mount up! If you leave ffxGlow off it turns off a lot of other things as well so, just make sure you remember whether its on or off.

TIPS:You can mount up to go faster and you can talk a bug that lies at the entrance of the cave.The bug will put a glowing trail on the ground for you to follow!
If you touch a skull just go drink again from the Calderon and start all over again!
If sometimes you cannot drink from Calderon,just wait a few second :D

Whatever you do, don't abandon the quest if you fail. Just go back and drink from the cauldron again. I had thought I had to abandon because the cauldron wasn't clicking, but realized later another toon clicked it before me and it was on some kind of cd. I had to hearth back to my garrison and pick up the prior quest and then fly back.

• Fly to Everbloom Wilds or Everbloom Overlook
• Kill Enthralled Mutant & Twisted Guardian.

2. The Silent Skull: The First Reagent
• Click the under the rock structure at coords 57,35

3. The Silent Skull: The Second Reagent
• Click the in the large skull at coords 68,34

• Go into the cave & click the Cauldron... click it a second time to give yourself the Erratic Visions buff.

• Watch out for the floating skulls and their path, which you can see as a Black Cylindrical Cloud around the skulls (as you may lose Erratic Visions buff)
• Once you arrived, click Gu'rakh and it will fly you to the Skulltaker.
• Kill Skulltaker, loot the The Silent Skull.
• Hearth back to your Garrison, and turn in the quest to (Alliance) / (Horde).

Argh. Blasted skull taker. Good tips to dismiss bodyguard, and use camo, avoiding the shadows. So thanks for that. Once I finally made it through to the skull taker, I was not allowed to attack him.

What saved me here, in case anyone else has the same problem, was another person came into the area. THEY attacked with no problems, and then I was able to join into the fight.

The first part of this quest reminds me of the Talking Skull in a cave on Timeless Isle, just avoid the wandering skulls on your way to the Big Ravager at all costs, the trail the small one leaves is just a follow up. If you're having difficulties to get into the shadowy realm, dismiss bodyguards if you have any, leave cave and reenter to be able to click the cauldron to drink from it.

My biggest problem with this quest was losing the buff. Avoid the skulls and head for the objective area on your minimap, and you'll have no issues getting your taxi to the Skulltaker.

This questchain have only been buggy for me.. No autoaccept on the following quests so I had to go back to my garrison after each one, and now when I drink this elixir I'm all alone. There's nothing at all, no bugs or skulls.. Any suggestions? I've already been reloading ui and relogging of course.

Edit: Seems they fixed it in a later patch, finally completed it!

First dismiss all pets, minions and body guards. The follow directly behind the bug that is taking you to the mount you need to get to the last part of the quest. Be sure to stay in it's sparkly trail. That worked for me.

This is extremely easy if you zoom in the camera. It's how it's meant to be done apparently. If you turn it into "FPS gaming" perspective moving around is very obvious.

I had to log out at the point at which you drink from the cauldron...

...and when logging back on the entire quest has disappeared!

Is this a bug? I don't know where to go to get the quest back.

You can fly it! I was getting frustrated after several tries and the skulls were not cooperating by putting me in combat therefore ending my attempt. I decided to see if I could fly it so at the cave entrance I summoned a flying mount and avoided the skulls completely and flew above the path to the next part of the quest. Easy completion after that.

Did this quest today , Quest said Ready For Turn In, I hearthed back to garrison and no quest turn in guy. The book was on the floor next to harrison and quest was to brew the elixir again.

In the latest patch I could not hearth to my garrison. If I did the quest would be reset to brewing the potion again. I am not sure if you just leave the instanced area and then hearth it would be fine. Since this was the 5th time the quest was dropped I did not take any chances.

I flew back to my garrison to turn in the quest.

Hardest part is getting past skulls. Lots of good hints on here. Most important ones – tag the creature you talk to, monitoring it will guide you to the flying mount, but do not simply follow his trail; mount up but stop and watch the skulls and see where they are and going, then sprint between them.

The best way to navigate the glow is to get right on top of the guide and stay there. I did this and had no trouble.

Note: DO NOT hearth once you finish this or any of the other Harrison Jones quests! You will lose your progress! I had to go all the way back to the 'brew the Laughing Skull elixir' step and re-kill Skulltaker, and earlier I had to re-do one of the other quests as well. On the plus side, there will appear a book next to Harrison that will send you back a step, but for some reason, after completing the quest you MUST go the long way back to your garrison or the finishing item will vanish from your inventory and the quest will disappear from your log.

I completed the quest and hearthed to my garrison twice. When I got to my garrison, I didn't have the quest in my log anymore, completed or otherwise. Also not available from Harrison Jones. Picked up the last part of the quest chain from the book to the right of Harrison. The last time, I disabled all addons, exited and re-entered, completed the quest, and flew all the way back to my garrison... It worked!

When all else fails, disable your addons. :-)

I imagine it is just the RNG playing with me, but I have been checking on 4 toons for weeks now. Every time I see Harrison standing inside I wonder if today is the day, but despite constantly getting the Apexis or Amulet quests, I have never once had the Infected Orc mission pop for the Taking from the Taken chain.

Just bad luck or is there any other way to cycle through them? I'll keep checking but just hard to believe that sooner or later one of the toons would not hit the right mission.

Upon finishing the previous quest I didn't get this one. I was extremely confused because nobody in the comments mentioned this. The solution is to just go back to your garrison and you can get the next quest from a book sitting next to Harrison Jones.

The Silent Skull: Taking from the Taker

Description

With the reagents found, you should seek out Grinning Tolg's camp in the nearby cave to brew the elixir. Once the elixir is consumed, you should be able to communicate with the ravagers there. With any luck, they should be able to bring you to Skulltaker. His mask should bring a hefty reward.
