If you lose the NPC and can't hand in the quest, try leaving the area and come back and he should reappear. This worked well for me.

I just noticed after doing this quest for the fifth time, he was wearing his purple pants, green skin and then it clicked. I should really read the quests instead of accept - kill - hand in like some levelling machine from space. Stupid...just stupid

The botani here have a green ogron and it is mean.

It was strong enough to take out my dad's entire hunting party.
