In order to complete this, first you need to go and find a Shimmershroom (it's an orange mushroom, stands out well in all the blue). When you use it, you will get a 30 second buff that makes all Volatile Spores friendly to you. Then simply go around collect (right click) as many of them as you can before the 30 seconds run out.

You should be able to complete the quest with about 2-4 shimmershroom uses depending on how many people are around.

The Shimmershrooms look like glowcaps. They give you a buff that make the Volatile Spores friendly. The Volatile Spores disorient you so avoid them when going to a glow cap. The glowcaps and the Volatile Spores can be operated while mounted ... get out your disc or water strider mount and do it quickly ;-)

Get the quest "The Sting" and kill the sporebats for the Pristine Stinger. The Umbraspore Giants (elite) drops a quest ... "Fungal Bundle". Turn in all three quest together.

You need to find a mushroom that debuffs you and makes you temporarily friendly to the spores - you don't kill the spores.

The mushrooms look just like Glowcap, from back in Outland Zangarmarsh.

1. Go to 53.8, 21.8
2. Click on orange glowing mushroom. It will give you a buff called Shimmershroom Aura.
3. For as long as you have the buff, Volatile Spore will be friendly and you can click them to collect them for the quest.

Note that you can stay mounted while clicking on the mushroom AND the spores.

The Volatile Spores can be collected while mounted, even if you don't have the Stables. This speeds up the collection rate significantly.

You have to click on the glowing shimmering shrooms first before collecting the Violate Spore. They will explode if you don't.

Travel to Vindicator Maraad at coords 56.2, 32.4 in Elodor Fields, and accept the quest The Exarch Council.

1. The Exarch Council - (Video) - Follow the paved path to the north, into Elodor to coords 59.3, 26.5, and turn in the quest to Exarch Othaar.

• Accept the quest Naielle, The Rangari.

2. Naielle, The Rangari - (Video) - Travel north to the Rangari Enclave and turn in the quest Naielle, The Rangari to Exarch Naielle at coords 56.5, 23.6. Accept the quest Fun with Fungus

• Accept the quest The Sting from Rangari Chel (coords: 56.7, 23.0)

3. Fun with Fungus - (Video) - Click on a Shimmershroom (orange glowing mushroom), to receive the buff Shimmershroom Aura.

• Shimmershroom Aura is a 30 sec buff that makes the Volatile Spore appear friendly to you, and allow you to collect them, as part of this quest.
• Enter Umbrafen and collect 12 Volatile Spore.

4. The Sting - (Video) - Kill Moonglow Sporebat in the area of Umbrafen and loot their corpse for the quest item, Pristine Sporebat Stinger.

5. Fungal Bundle (optional) - (Video) - Kill one of the Umbraspore Giant (elite) and loot the Curious Growth from their corpse. Clicking on this item will give you the quest, Fungal Bundle.

• Travel back to the Rangari Enclave (coords: 56.7, 23.0) and turn in the quest The Sting to Rangari Chel.
• Turn in the quest Fungal Bundle to Rangari Sheera (coords: 56.7, 23.4, if you have killed the Umbraspore Giant).
• Turn in the quest Fun with Fungus to Exarch Naielle (coords 56.5, 23.6).

The quest text refers to the area as "Umberfen," yet the actual area is named "Umbrafen."

With the introduction of Draenor Pathfinder, you can collect the Volatile Spores while flying in addition to being mounted. You can also collect them while moving, just don't move too far away from them.
Don't forget your Shimmershroom Aura by picking up the orange mushrooms!

This quest is important to reveal the quest Friend of the Exarchs in which you may choose a new follower: either Apprentice Artificer Andren / Kal'gor the Honorable, Rangari Chel / Lokra, or Vindicator Onaala / Greatmother Geyah.

Description

It is our mission as rangari to explore and understand this world. Around you is the Umberfen. Many draenei lost their lives when we first discovered this place. The volatile spores burst whenever anyone approaches.

But we watched... and we learned.

Around the swamp you'll notice "Shimmershrooms," distinguished by their orange glowcaps. Their dust will make you invisible to the volatile spores. Grab the spores - gently! - and bring them to me.

We will forge this savage world into a weapon.
