This is the scenario accessed when starting Stage 3 of Isle of Thunder phasing. You fight off Zandalari and open up the Lightning Forge, which later allows you to craft weapons that resemble TBC Blacksmithing ones.

There are several buffs that can help you out:

Stage 2 (killing Zandalari): Thunderous Innervation: Killing enemies heals you for 30000 every 1 sec for 5 sec sec.
Stage 5 (killing Mogu): Power Surge: Melee, ranged, and spell haste increased by 10%. Additional applications increase duration.
Stage 5 (killing Mogu): Recuperate: Heals the target for 5% every 3 sec for 18 sec.

If you get stuck in mid-flight, you've got no choice but to leave party and try it again.

You *should* try /script LeaveParty()

That will boot you out of the party and also boot you out of the instance... requeue and you should hopefully have no problems.

I'm having problems figuring out to move while riding the dragon over towards the mines. I got jumped over onto the first bad guy, then I got stuck. I couldn't hit him, I couldn't jump back.

What should I be looking for? (I'm not seeing any extra action buttons after the jump).

DC'd during the fight and died as a result. Logged back on and I was stuck in the scenario, unable to do anything or interact with any NPCs. Had to hearth out, fly back to the Isle, and restart the scenario and redo all the previously completed steps.

The 4th phase asks you to blow the door and move to the mine entrance. Well, the "mine entrance" is well inside the mine. Make your way to the boss, at the skull icon, and you will clear the mine entrance.

Don't miss out on the stacking buffs when you kill the mobs!

presumably this happened between the solo-scenarios, leaving those who are late coming to the Island missing part of the story and wondering what ~~Fenris~~ Lor'themar is talking about

For BM Hunters (or any hunter really), Feign Death is your best friend in this scenario. I kept dying after I got to where you have to kill more than two in a row and with no way to heal I thought I was doomed. Kill two, then Feign Death for a minute and heal up, then the rest is no problem at all. Or you could just keep attacking until you get to low health and then Feign Death but the heal would take longer. Doing it after every two or so will maximize the healing buff.

I did this one after a few failed attempts, I swapped specks to marksman, then used the feign death between each fight when able. Failed the first time, was more diligent about feigning and made it through fine. Swapped back to BM once I was able.

Ugh, I am a mage and stupid weak. I haven't figured out a good way to do this, however, I noticed many people saying you have to leave instance once you die. Not true. Find the break in the wall near where you blew it up and just go back to Kirin Tor base and remount. No need to start over. Hope this helps.

How I got this on my Warlock:

At stage 2 when you are hopping from mount to mount, not only are you fighting the rider of the mount but you are also being attacked by other flyers. I kept howl of terror and fear on all riders as often as I could, since they aren't pounding on you when they are feared. Also spammed drain life to keep my life up, used whatever damage was off cooldown in between (mostly soul fire) and kept life tap up to keep from running out of mana. Most of the damage I did was from drain life, which made that stage long, but after dying a couple of times figuring it out I managed to survive and could then land and beat the next boss.
Horaki is a basic tank and spank, stay out of the fire fight.
Shiaxu has given me a lot of trouble on other classes, this one was actually really easy. Voidwalker tanked. Placed demonic circle in middle of hall where Taoshi is working. Move to other side of center area so you are pointed away from cone of damage from his kicks. When he chains you, hit teleport which breaks the chains!

The first time I attempted this as my Arcane Mage, I really wasn't ready for the second stage, after thinking about it for a while and coming back to it, I found the easiest way to get though it was to burn out all your Mana just on Arcane Blast, then use the talent Invocation to restore Mana when needed/in between fights.

Doing this you should be able to burst down the riders fast enough to stay alive, obviously using Molten Shield and anything else you have to boost your critical chance helps a lot.

If you happen to die in a completely unreachable place like the conglomeration of rocks (like I did unfortunately), leave the instance, then teleport to the nearest graveyard. It will tell you you don't belong in the instance, and hopefully kick you out alive like it did me so you can start over.

Just "completed" this on my hunter. Had the same problems as the others, plus one more. When I got killed I was over the mine. When I did my corpse run and looking for it, I ended up in the mine. Lucky I was backed in a corner where I had the option to res. It was next to the caved in entrance, so couldn't exit that way. Made my way around to the next exit and found the end boss. Killed him and got the "work complete." So I tried the door there, it was locked. More searching found a third exit I couldn't use. So I just hearthed out. Just so happens my stone is set for Violet Rise. Then I turned in my quest and off to so the next one. I hope my next toon can make it through all the stages. I am curious to see what they are about.

As of 6.0.2, I have no problem with stage 1 through 3. Stage 4 says " 0/1 Joined with Taoshi ". I see her jumping down the mountain with a chat bubble over here head. But as soon as she lands on the ground she phases out and I can not communicate with her. I am stuck at this point.

Game Master Kalelmhatt here. Thanks for getting in touch with us today regarding the quest "To the Skies". Since you're contacting us today, you've discovered that Taoshi gets a bit overzealous and disappears before you're able to interact with her.

The good news is that our Dev Team is aware of her speedy departure and a hotfix to get her to stick around is already in the works. While we're not able to mark this quest as complete, once that hotfix goes live you'll be able to finish this up without issue and move forward.

Well...doing this (at level) with a Shadow priest. I killed all the mobs okay, but then my original mount disappeared, and the birdie I was on plummeted to the ground.

Managed to cast Levitate before I went splat, but there was nothing to do but drop group and retry the instance--no way to remount or get up to the mines entrance without flying, unfortunately.

Second time, got through that phase with no problems, and it automatically put me back on the birdie after all the mobs were dead. Bug I guess?

Anyway, tip for defeating Slavemaster Shiaxu: stand right at his feet so that when he tries to use the Chained spell, you just run right through him. You may not have time to get out of the AOE standing anywhere else, and his Deadly Kick can hurt while you're rooted there.

For anyone trying to do this after patch 7.3.5 (the level scaling), the mobs (at least at stage 2, couldn't get any farther) do not scale. They are level 90.

Tried to do this at level 86 hunter, only managed to kill one. My health just drops to fast.

I just recently started playing again, hadn't played since Cataclysm. So I just encountered this quest for the first time and it is still buggy. Got killed once, read the comments here and tried again. My second attempt went differently than anything I've read here. Didn't die but ended up flying around with nothing to do. I noticed that for a very short time, in one spot, the jump to another mount button would reappear. So I waited and hit it and jumped to the mount of one of three attackers that were not visible until suddenly I was on one of their mounts. It automatically jumped me to the next mount as I killed each one, and then it automatically jumped me off that mount to land in the sea. As I swam closer to shore, I could see my original mount hovering in place over the plaza where Horaki is supposed to spawn and the rubble blocks the mine entrance. My mount indicated that I could remount it if when I put my the cursor over it so I proceeded to try to get up there. It took a bit, but with some persistence and slow fall to get over some gaps, I got there. My mount was far too high up to possibly reach. Horaki hadn't spawned and the objective still said to deal with the attackers. I noticed that I was able to partially walk into the rubble blocking the mine, so I started jumping forward and to my surprise I was eventually able to get through the rubble. I started killing the mobs and found the Slave Master and I could see Taoshi by the door. Talking to Taoshi, she said she'd destroy the rubble so we could come in through the back, but after agreeing to that the original Taoshi remained even though a new one, with her name in blue instead of green, spawned. The new Taoshi said the same thing and offered the same dialog and spawned yet another blue named Taoshi while the first blue named Taoshi faded out but neither of them would follow me at all. Figuring it was completely broke, I attacked and killed the Slave Master at which point it advanced the achievement, the objective switched to Kill Horaki, the door opened and the blood elves came in and set up a portal, and all the remaining mobs in the mine disappeared. I went back up to the rubble and was unable to get through. Went down and spoke to Taoshi again but she still wouldn't follow me. I then noticed that when I spoke to her and spawned a new Taoshi, it appeared in front and to the left of my character. Using that I was able to spawn-walk her up to the rubble, where she promptly faded out completely. Just as I was about to quit, the rubble cleared, Taoshi had activated on the other side and finally cleared it, and Horaki had spawned! I killed Horaki and the next objectives showed cleared and the quest was ready to turn in. Went back down to the door and used the portal and turned in the quest. To sum up what worked for me:
- If you die or are dismounted in some way, Try to get to where Horaki spawns.
- Make your way through the rubble into the cave, it isn't as solid as it appears.
- Kill the slave master.
- Position yourself so that when you talk to Taoshi she will spawn a new version of herself in the direction of the path leading up to the rubble.
- Once you get Taoshi to the rubble and she fades out, wait for her to clear the rubble.
- Kill Horaki.
- Turn in the quest.
I did this as an arcane mage, but I think any class or item that gives you slow fall or some way to bridge the gaps in order to get up the rear mine entrance will work. Be careful about straying too far or it will port you to the graveyard.

So now it’s Battle for Azeroth 8.0.2
Why does Thunderwing keep flying in circles trying to aggro flying mobs? There’s no “exit vehicle” arrow or you could jump off during a flyover. Unfortunately you have to survive this segment to kill the mine boss.

Why is this quest still in the game?

If it gets bugged while you have to cover Taoshi, simply leave the scenario, and you can turn in the quest.

I'm confused. Thunderwing doesn't let me drop at the mine entrance, instead flies around while I get chased by other flying zandalari. If i use the special ability to jump to attack, the enemy terrorwings just drop me to the ground. If I do dispatch the enemies then Thunderwing just flies around in an endless loop.

For those who get dropped by Thunderwing after trying to jump to another mount:

What worked for me was to simply use ranged abilities as best I could (as a Pally I could mash Judgement and would occasionally get a shot off). After killing two waves of 3, the mount dropped me off. Best thing I can suggest is to Not use the Jump To Another Mount button, and also don't one-shot the chasing mobs too quickly.

If you get stuck in the caves, after defeating Slavemaster Shiaxu, just leave the scenario.

I killed him and nothing happened. Ran around a bit, reloaded, nothing worked. I left to restart it and it just counted it as completed. I guess your friend (The NPC) is supposed to go open the door to the left, but I found her just standing there moving her hands endlessly.

G translation of my German post

This Q is bugged.
You can kill everything, "Shiaxu defeated" is recognized but not that the "mine gate unlocked" was.
When running out you will be teleported in front of the gates and you have to cancel the Q in the Q-Log. Then you usually come back to the "Morning Seeker Cape", the small island north-west where the Q-givers are.

If this is not the case, a "/reload" does not help either. Restarting the game just helped me.
Now I see the island with the world boss "Nalak" for farming.

RE "This quest is bugged", no, you're just that good.

Slow down. You have to let your Pandaren friend get to the door to unlock it before you engage the boss or the quest will bug out. I got stuck because I went too fast and didn't get credit for opening the door, so I dropped the quest and logged out. Came back in camp, picked it back up, and made sure to keep Taoshi with me, and let her go work on the door after the quick RP line about "you keep his attention" or whatever, and then one shot the boss and got credit.

I did have to right click the eyeball on the minimap and leave the instance that way, but was able to turn the quest in and move on.

I know this info may be old but I couldn't stay alive up in the air. I'm Demonology warlock and depend heavily on my demons. I'm in "Chromie time" so I'm level 56. I couldn't kill the riders fast enough before they would kill me. I found that someone level 41 had the same issue and I used their solution. I finally was able to rez at a spirit healer, right clicked my portrait and selected to "leave instance group" then hearthed back to Orgrimmar where I talked to Chromie and told her that I wanted to go back to present time. I went back to the the Isle of Thunder portal just above Shado Pan Garrison and was able to very easily complete the mission. After the mission finished, I was still in the solo scenario and couldn't turn in the quest or anything. I selected to "leave the instance group" and it immediately teleported me back to where I could turn in the quest. What a nightmare. Now I'll go back to Orgrimmar and get back in "Chromie time"!

As of MoP Remix (Horde-side) this seems bugged and kicks you off the Thunderwing rather quickly regardless of what you seem to do...

EDIT: I beat it. You just have to do TONS of damage and kill all three waves before the corner where it teleports you. Protip: do this as low level as possible (level 50 in MoP:Remix) and do it in GOOD GEAR! I was able to complete it on my ilvl 323 Level 70 Hunter by switching to Marksman and just being incredibly quick.

If you are like me, doing this as a leveling thing during Mist of Pandaria Timerunning; You need to use your scrolls and or respec and re-think your gem usage, you need all the damage you can get, because whilst you are flying in you will eventually be attacked by Zandalari flying on Skyscreamers, if you do not defeat these fast enough, otherwise you get automatically teleported to the base-camp and you cannot redo the scenario unless you leave and rejoin.
I found this out the hard way after doing the scenario like 8 times with fails all of them.

As for the boss, take it easy on him but do not let him cast his hail of arrows whilst you stand in them, its a guarantee'd death.

Through sheer dumb luck, I was able to complete this quest

I don't know if I got lucky or if 10 resets is the magic number, I did this as a level 70 with 4,200 threads on the cloak with an item level of 242.
Basically, what I did differently on the 10th try was take my time in killing the mobs. I killed the first mobs when we went over the beast pens, and everything played out as normal from there.

But it did bug out at the end as I was left hovering in the air when the first boss is meant to shoot you down, but as a mage I just used shimmer to get out of it and everything played out normally. So for non mage classes, I would recommend putting on the blink gem on your boots.

Again, I don't know if I just got lucky or if 10 resets is the key or if taking your time is the right thing to do.

Also Horde. Also getting thrown off before I can even get to the mine. Evoker can not do damage while moving on the bird. I am able to kill the first set of mobs with cooldowns, buff, and potions. Unable to kill the next set as every cast is interrupted. Hover does not work on the bird.

EDIT: JUST FOUND A WORK AROUND. Uploading some footage as evoker (no commentary). Here are the steps I took.

1: Start encounter normally mount the bird and kill as many of the trolls on the birds as possible. You will likely get knocked off but with patience you basically have unlimited tries.
2: After you get knocked off walk your way towards the mine.
3: This is the tough part. You need to mountain goat your way to the top of the cliff. Hover and Heroic leap are your best friends. It will be shown in the footage I will link as soon as it's uploaded.
4: The bird you are knocked off of takes the same route. From the top of the cliff/hill you can remount it. Unlike the drowning method this DOES NOT reset the mobs you have already killed. In the footage I only had one guy left. DO NOT KILL THEM UNLESS YOU ARE ON THE BIRD. The encounter will bug out if you do so and you will have to restart.
5: After that it seemed everything else worked as normal.

Managed to clear it on my paladin. Use every scroll, talent into full burst talents, use your drums. Know that you can't use any abilities that require you to click in an area due to being in the air. Use divine storm over your single target damage. Really do just suggest waiting until its fixed, but hopefully this advice helps any other people trying.

Use single target to kill the first guy, cleave second guys, then cleave the wave of 3. I managed to do this with about one second remaining, it really is hell.

I made it past the 3 flying mob packs a couple of times, trick was NOT super hard dps. It was to kill 1 of the 3 mobs at the time where you supposed to usually get teleported out. Then I got thrown to ANOTHER of the 2 remaining flying dudes and didnt get teleported out. I killed them both.... but then i got thrown into the water instead where it told to "fend off the attack" or something ... like wtf

EDIT: Ran around the cliffs a bit and suddenly it progressed to where I could kill Beastmaster Horaki

Managed to get it with a fairly strong level 70 BM Hunter on Remix. Popped all the scrolls as mentioned before, went out into the isle before starting and killed some mobs. As soon as I looted a Prayer of Purged Fear, I used Sunreaver Beacon to get back and started the scenario immediately. Popped my meta gem, then drums, then did all I could get get my tinkers to light the mobs up.

Managed to complete To The Skies! on Remix doing the Following.

Mount Bird -> Proceed to kill stuff until you get ported back into town.
Walk outside, drown yourself in the ocean.
Revive in town
Mount Bird again (Possibly two times? not sure 100%) Until you're flying.
Kill things as you would taking your time or fast... IF You get knocked off/no mounts appear, QUICKLY hit the extra action bar to jump back to your bird.
If this does not work after the first drowning death, try again.

MOP remix :
I passed the bug, it is indeed a scaling issue.
1 : full parchment
2 : BL first flying Add
3 : burst when 3 adds are here

if you kill all the adds before the bug moment you will be able to finish the scenario !

If you're doing MoP Remix, you need to kill the pterrodactyls REALLY FAST! If you reach a certain point of the flight and they're still alive, you will be teleported to the ground.

If you need to reset/re-do, right click your character portrait and 'leave instance group'. You can re-enter by talking to Jaina.

Hopefully blizzard hot fix this to stop teleporting people back, it's unbelievably annoying. Playing a Warlock with such high ramp times, there's no physical way I can burst them before getting teleported back for whatever reason.

I found a workaround completely by accident:

1. Bind "Extra Action Button 1" to something on your keyboard.
2. Spam that key when the game is trying to port you back to the start.

For me, the screen kept flickering (as I kept spamming) between being on an enemy and at the start plaza, but eventually we got through whatever banned area was triggering it and the ride continued normally.

Ok so after a few bugged attempts I got it to work in MOP remix:

I sat on the bird first time and didn't do anything until I eventually got TPed. I then drowned myself and got on the bird again. This time I waited until I was above the thunder forges area (just beyond the mountains and the first time you have actual flat ground below you) then started attacking the mobs. Killed first two waves by jumping onto their mounts without incident, then on the third I got tped a bit onto one of their mounts, then was able to kill them pretty slowly with no issues. Got knocked off my mount by the beastmaster guy and the scenario proceeded perfectly.

Not sure the first bit with suiciding is necessary, but I'd recommend trying how I did it the second time at least. Hope this helps.

I got kicked off always at the same position. Fifth try I managed to kill all enemies before getting to the dismount spot and it sent me to next stage.

Pandaria Remix:
Hi, i spent an entire day trying other specs and builds to do this but im just to much of a lame healer to DPS this down lol. I finally was able to complete this after 45 minutes. let me explain how i managed it as a resto shaman:
1. do as normal, get teleported
2. go to the left into the water and keep going around the shore (north west-ish) until you see a ramp (really sharp angle)
3. climb up the ramp
4. go to the blocked in cave, turn right, use door of shadows gem to climb to the tippy top of the mountain (its got a fairly flat top area)
5. put a raid marker on your friendly bird mount guy when it flies by (so your can see when they are coming), throw any instant cast damage on the birds when they fly by, keep doing it till they all die
6. the friendly mount will 'land' below you
7. the boss will spawn, kill him!
6. it took me 45 minutes, but i flame shocked my way to victory

I just did this on Remix. And after I got dismounted (because apparantly you always do) I just went to the location where the next stage spawns (48.5, 28.2) Waited a couple of minutes and the stage finished by itself. I easily managed to clear it after that. You can get up to the location easily from the water at around (46,60, 22,74) This coordinate is not exact, but you can easily see the rock you can run up.

Took me a while and a ton of frustration as a BM hunter but I found a way.
This helped me, but if there is a chance is will help you too, I think I should post it:

*Spec into Serpent Sting and all non pet options (Barage, Murder of crows, etc)
*Used Funeral Pyre meta gem
*Scrolled up on all scrolls
*Took flight on bird and popped Funeral Pyre so the stacks would be high when combat starts
*Popped drums and shot down all the adds attacking without leaving the bird you fly in on.

If all goes like it did for me, before you enter the zone that dismounts you, the three waves of adds will have died and it flies you to the boss area.
You will have to make due with the #$%^ spec to kill it, but that wasn't very hard.

MOP remix: What worked for me is the following: as you're on the bird, do your rotation as usual, but keep one finger on your extra action button hotkey (for me, it's G). keep spamming the extra button as you go through your rotation. I managed to do it on a mistweaver so I had to take my time but somehow this worked. Hope it works!

Stay away from this quest line if you're on your way to 70 in Remix! Yes, it can be done! Yes, it's somewhat challenging. It contains quite some lore. And then some ...

But it's just a complete(!) waste of time on your way to Lvl 70 if you're just looking for quick exp.

I got knocked off and looked all over for a way up. Went back to camp and did not find the bird to remount. I could not see a way to leave instance. I even logged out and back in and was still stuck. So ended up hearthing out and abandoning the quest . Now I have no way back to Isle of Thunder. Any suggestions?

I give up on this entirely. I've been trying to get past the flying pterrodax stage for a half an hour on a fresh 70 mage and I am getting 2-shotted by the trio of Zandalari about halfway through the flight. Thankfully I've unlocked the class armaments on my Remix hunter but I am annoyed having to spend any bronze on something I was about an hour away from getting for free. Tuning feels absolutely broken unless you're playing on a better armoured class.

Just finished this as a 54 destro warlock with ~4,500 threads, ilevel 99.
Fighting enemies on the mount went more or less fine despite constant loading screens for whatever reason, at least until I hit the 'Jump' skill and it kicked me into the ocean.
Climbed onto the shore trying to get to the quest marker (there's a stone ramp leading up from the water), found the caved-in mine entrance and no obvious way to get to the actual marker.
Following suggestions from another comment, I used the Heroic Leap gem to climb up the cliff towards the marker - the rocks to the left of the lake gave a pathing error, but I was able to jump to the ones on the right fine.
The quest updated once I made it to the marker circle, after which I jumped down the waterfall. I was then teleported to the nearest graveyard for 'abandoning the scenario', which put me back near the enemy you have to kill to continue.
Had no problems beyond that point.

This bugged out for me on remix. After I finished killing all the attackers in the air, I ended up on Thunderwing the original mount again, but it just sat in the air hovering. There was no way to exit the party, dismount, move, or do anything. Finally, I just logged out, then logged back in. It fixed itself, placing me where I needed to be so I could continue with stage 3.
